Greeting Region V! Another summer is upon us and another successful Region V Conference has come and gone. I would like to thank Shannon Gilligan Wehr, Adam Karnopp, and Kristi Okerlund for hosting the “The Heart of OTR” conference in beautiful Sioux Falls, SD. I am still feeling inspired by Ferial Pearson’s keynote address about The Secret Kindness Agents and I continue to think about how we can infuse these small acts to change the experience of our new students. The date and theme are set for the 2018 Regional Conference that will bring Region IV and V together for a joint conference. Join us March 23-25, 2018 for the “There is No Place Like NODA: Knowledge-Heart-Courage” regional conference. Mark your calendars and watch your email for further details. Thank you Tina Arthur from the University of Iowa for representing Region V as a co-host. Tina and her co-host, Gretchen Doenges from Texas A & M University-San Antonio, will be seeking Region V members to serve on the conference committee. This joint conference gives all of us the opportunity to learn from our colleagues to the south as well as provide a lot of networking opportunities. There are still many opportunities to get involved with the Region and you can learn more details in this newsletter. Getting involved at the regional level is a great way to start your NODA leadership experience. Contact me to further discuss which of position is best for you. Best of luck with your summer programming and I look forward to seeing you all in Louisville, KY this fall! Your Region V Coordinator, Lisa Gruszka

The session will use the ICEP (Identity, Communication, Engagement, & Preparation) concept to help transfer professionals develop pre-orientation workshops. Presenter: Milka Derisma, Graduate Student, University of Central Florida Date: September 20 at 1:00pm EST Title: Building Relationships: The Transfer Symposium and Other Key Strategies to Engage Your Campus Community. Description: As transfer student enrollment grows on our campuses, the creation of an institution-wide vision for transfer students becomes more important to ensure transfer student success. Appalachian State University hosted a Transfer Symposium in September, 2013 for more than 200 faculty and staff to learn about our transfer students (i.e., demographics), understand why transfer students are important, and to learn how we can best serve transfer students both inside and outside of the classroom. Campus momentum from this event led to Transfer Symposium 2014 and 2015. Learn more about these events and other key initiatives that have engaged faculty and staff......our entire campus community.
