This year Tulip has been my savior. With so many weddings lined up in my family, I wasn’t able to figure out what is in and what is out. I wasn’t sure about my dress, hair, make up or for that matter anything. But Tulip’s wedding mantra is a one stop destination to solve all these problems. It gave me a precise idea of all the things I need to make the most of the wedding. So all I can say is, thanks Tulip. Rishika Rao, St Francis Degree College

SINGLES!
The month in which greeting cards companies turn into profit making machines, soft toys are sold more than tomatoes, honeymoon destinations are more jam-packed than local train stations, that time is here. In college as couples create moments for themselves and their partners this month, Sneha Mashetty is here to rescue all the singles and pitch them ten innovative things they can do this Valentine’s Day.
Host an Anti-Valentine’s dinner
Hit the road all by yourself
spirit of being single. Be the first to host an Anti-Valentine’s dinner and be the pioneer of your very own ritual.
Always cribbed about not having enough time and space for yourself? This is the time to explore your inner self. Pack your bags and hit the road, let it be any mode of transportation, or for any length of time, the only rule is that you should be all by yourself. Keeping yourself away from this self-consuming social world can do wonders. Try it and I’m sure you’ll love it.
If you are single this February 14th, there is no reason to let yourself low, instead celebrate singlehood! Call in all your single friends, cook an amazing meal together and celebrate the
Be secret Saint Valentine
Everyone is aware of the custom of secret Santa, but this Valentine’s Day be a secret Saint Valentine. How? Make a list of all the single friends of yours whom you had a crush always, but never gathered the guts to approach them. Hit the mall; purchase a flattering gift and courier it to your crush. This can be one hell of a gutsy thing you ever pulled off on a Valentine’s Day.
16 FEBRUARY, 2014
Experience self-indulgence
One pro of being single is spending lavishly on yourself. Experience the pleasure of spending every single penny of your savings on yourself. Treat yourself like you never did
and buy everything you can in your reach. Indulge in guilty pleasure; let it be a luxurious spa treatment or buying that expensive pair of shoes you always wished to own.
Go on a blind date
Never done anything out of the box? This is the day to try something new, make a start from going on a blind date.It can go two ways, either you will ignite the cupid in you and find the love of your life or end up with a boring
date which you can laugh about all through your life.
Movie Marathon
If you are a movie buff, the best way to treat yourself this Valentine’s Day is to book a private theatre for you and your pals. Go on a movie marathon and watch the best romcoms ever. Let popcorn and nachos be your
partner for a day and films be your date.
Be a dessert king/queen
If you are a person with a sweet tooth, the apt thing to do this Valentine’s Day is to make desserts. Look up online for some of your favourite recipes and try recreating them. This will keep you consumed in the food you love and let you indulge in them once they are ready to eat.
Boycott! glad they would be to have your presence at home. Be an ideal kid and I’m sure you’ll be glad you did it!
Lastly, if nothing of the above seems to please you, you can just boycott Valentine’s Day and ignore it completely. Spend it like any other day and ignore the gush of love flowing around you.
Reviews Being single on Valentine’s Day can be so much fun. Since my best friend is also single, both of us make the most of this day. We fill our pockets and go gaga on a shopping spree. As they say shopping is a girl’s best friend, I pamper myself with branded merchandise. One good thing about shopping on this day is that the malls are empty as couples are indulging in love and stores offer amazing discounts. Nivali Balmoori

If you have been a person who never gave time to your parents, this Valentine’s Day be the best you can to them. Take them out for dinner or just make a meal with them at home. You would be astonished to know how

Sarvamangala Chavali
She is a very happy, positive, vivacious and fun loving person. Life’s experiences have taught her to live in the moment and enjoy every bit of it. She believes in letting go off negative people & feelings and stay with positivity around! With her dynamic personality, she has won many accolades and achievements in her kitty. From receiving the “Outstanding Woman Entrepreneur” award from the CM in July 2011 to being selected as the Brand Ambassador in the Entrepreneurs Category by Hyderabad Metro Rail - November 2012. She is a passionate woman who takes her passion for glamour and art with seriousness. She played a nun in Ramaiya Vastavaiya and also is a part of upcoming movies like “Paathshaala, “Aa Aiduguru,” and also modeled for her own store Anagha. We have to wait and see how far this poised lady will lead, who received her wings from Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan herself in 1986.
Mornings My mornings are usually hectic - My father Rama Rao (79), my two children Aditya (22) and Shivani (17) and I live together. I am up usually by 6 a.m. and the first thing I do is get a cup of nice ginger tea, that is the fuel that starts my day. After that, my time is spent in kitchen supervising meals for the day, breakfast comes on the table by 7:15, we all are vegetarians, so it usually includes choice between Idlis, Porridge, Poha, Upma or Paranthas. After my daughter leaves for 18 FEBRUARY, 2014
school at 7:30, I sit with the newspaper & check what’s going on and spend about 15 minutes on Facebook interacting with my friends! Once done, I water the plants in my balcony (something I love doing) and then I get ready for work, followed with a short 10 minutes Puja, my alone time with my God. I pack lunch for my son and myself and make sure the table is laid for lunch for my father and I leave home for Anagha (my store) around 9:30.

I reach Anagha around 10:15, check accounts, do some banking, check with my weavers on pending orders, design, when I get the time, I look into email and dispatch online orders interact with customers that visit the store.
Your weekends and leisure There is very little leisure time that I get and when I do, I catch up with friends, go out for concerts with them or just hang out with them. I love watching movies on the big screen, listening to music, singing and travelling. I have resolved to travel to one new country every year. So far I have been to the USA, China, Malaysia and Thailand. I would like to travel within India too, to all the lesser known off-the-beaten-track places.
Time flies at work but I take a quick break for lunch at 2:30. I enjoy my work thoroughly and love the colors & weaves that are my world! I make some calls to friends & catch up with them in my free time around 7. I head home, while my store Anagha stays open till 8, under my staff, who take good care of customers. Family and Friends My father was a pilot in the Indian Air Force, so while growing up, I travelled to new places every 2-3 years, early childhood was spent in North India, that’s how my siblings and I speak fluent Hindi, schooling of 12 years was done across 8 schools. Travelling so much has granted me with a wide circle of friends. While doing graduation, I got selected to fly with Indian Airlines, in the mid 1980s and joined them as an Air Hostess and was based in Chennai. Those were days filled with fun, glamour and of course travelling with perks
of Dastkar Andhra, who introduced me to weavers from Mangalagiri and Pochampally. I ran a store for 14 years in Secunderabad and brought it to a level of popularity, when the bug of turning an entrepreneur bit me, I ventured with Anagha, I thought if I could run a store successfully for someone else and earn a pittance, I could do it for myself and earn much better than that. The mere thought of it spurred me on my journey to be financially independent. What started as a necessity is now a passion, I enjoy going to work and call myself a “Happy Entrepreneur”. Anagha promotes handloom Saris, Cholies, Yardage, Dupattas and Ready-mades. 70% of the staff is women, while the only male members involved are in the tailoring department. A part of the profits go into education of two girl children that Anagha has adopted, one at the Rural Development Foundation and the other at Asha Jyothi Foundation at Hanuman Junction. I hope to be able to reach out to more girl children as I believe that if you educate a girl/woman, you educate the society. This is a CSR activity, that is something very dear to my heart and something I’ve always wanted to do. Dinner On my way home, I stop to buy groceries and vegetables, once or twice a week. When home I spend time with my father & daughter, we discuss what we did during the day, my

Till Eternity Srinivas and Farah, a couple filled with love and dreams for future share a little about their story and plans further. Srini, (as people call him) is an absolute extrovert and love having people around him. On the other hand, his wife Farah is ambient and happy go lucky, gelling around with everyone with ease.
Srini - I am very flamboyant and have always been appreciated for my creativity in work. I am a passionate person and I love spending time with my family. In my free time I do a lot of travelling & photography. My work is my life and there is no questioning that. I am someone who has an eye for detail and when I take up something, I make sure it’s done perfectly. I can be over sensitive and really lazy at times but my efficient time is my biggest strength and my creativity is my biggest asset. Farha - I would say I am an ambient and a happy go lucky person. I love experimenting with life, music, adventure and travelling is my passion. An absolute perfectionist and quite a critic (laughs). I can be really fussy and analytical at times, but believe in having a practical approach towards life. I don’t believe in judging people and hate being judged or interfered. Almost everybody has issues and most of these issues consist of many outside circumstances that make their life miserable at work. I realised that this isn’t my thing, this is not what I want to do. Having likings, tastes and stuff that we like to do, but both of us are open to experimenting, which is what keeps the spark in our marriage alive even after 4 years. It still feels like we have just met. It is the mutual understanding and being sensitive to each other’s feelings that keeps us bonded. We generally see that a lot of things change once you get into a relationship in terms of expectations and behaviour. In our case, we have never felt that pressure because our relationship has not changed us from who we were. Sometimes we laugh and say “can you believe that we are married?” and then we try to act like a “typical husband and wife.” Like every other couple we have our fights, but at the same time we give each other enough space and one of us takes the responsibility to act mature when the other is down. It works perfectly for us.

Is Sexual Orientation A Sin? From times immemorial our country was the pioneer of being the perfect blend of cultural values and giving younger generations the flexibility to get accustomed to newer concepts. This entire stature was questioned when the Supreme Court verdict on homosexuality stunned the people of the country. Tulip asks few people, for their take on the Supreme Court verdict.
The Coin Flips Giving a straight blow to gay rights, the apex court set aside the Delhi High Court judgment decriminalizing homosexuality. The Supreme Court invoked Section 377 once again and declared that any kind of sexual practice between the people of same sex is a crime and is a punishable offence. The punishment can go up to life time imprisonment and cannot be questioned. At the same time the apex court put the ball in the government’s court arguing that it was free to annul the law through legislation. The verdict was pronounced by Justice G S Singhvi, whose judgment on the issue was the last before his retirement.
It takes a lot of courage and heart wrench for a person to come out in the open and accept being gay. They don’t deserve being labeled criminals because they are not. They have not murdered or raped a person, they just have an unparallel sexual preference. I don’t say go out in the open and support the LGBT community or run in their parades, all I’m saying is respect their choice and let them live the way they prefer to. Jyothi Gaikwad, Technical Analyst at IBM I believe that a person should not be judged by his or her sexual preference, it is an extremely private affair and should not affect one’s social or professional life. I may not be best of friends with a gay person, but it would certainly not affect my outlook towards him in my workplace. Everyone should be equal in the eyes of the law and should not be judged as a criminal just because his/ her sexual preferences are different from yours. Sirish Kumar Kanakadandi, SME at Unisys India Pvt Ltd Who are we to do decide what is normal and what is not? If being gay isn’t natural for us, being straight might not be natural for gays. We live in a city which moves faster than lightening and things like sexual preferences shouldn’t be made a national issue. I don’t think the Supreme Court has any say in a man’s personal life as long as he isn’t disturbing public order. I strongly believe in the motto, live and let live. I believe in a more traditional outlook towards life and being straight is the only sexual orientation that ever existed in the society. Homosexuality is just a state of mind which can be set right under some guidance. I do not agree to the Supreme Court verdict of declaring them as criminals, I would say homosexuality is not moral but it is not a crime either. Radhika Chintala, Volunteer at Art of Living I cannot digest the fact that the Supreme Court has time for addressing issues as petty and personal as homosexuality instead of making laws against gruesome crimes like rape and murder. Homosexuality is as normal as being straight and I just cannot understand what is the big fuss about it. They are like any other human beings who eat, work and sleep. Well well, next few pages are going to take you on a ride of tips, suggestions, facts and lots of love filled words! Also not forgetting valentines is more about love and not just couples, our suggestions are valid to singles who would want to spend their time with friends or loved one, whomsoever it may be. So hold tight and read on! And yeah have a great valentine’s month! “Love is to be felt within, before looking out at it from others” - Satpreet Kaur!
Confessing love? We get you fab list of most eccentric ways to propose your loved one! In public Y
Have a flair for the dramatic? Get in touch with the stage manager of an appropriately themed production and propose after the cast’s curtain call.
Y
Send your girlfriend on a treasure hunt. Start with a clue at home; then send her on a tour of your favorite spots in the city. When she gets to the last hint, the prize should be you on one knee.
Y
Arrange a surprise proposal with a street caricaturist. Have him sketch a picture of you two with word bubbles. Yours will read, “Will you marry me?” and hers will say, “Yes!”
Y
Flying anytime soon? Use the plane’s loudspeaker system (of course, run your plan by the flight attendants first) and propose at 35,000 feet.
Y
Movie buffs? Ask your neighborhood theater to run an ad featuring your proposal and make sure you get there in time for the previews.
Y
Set up a live-stream channel and invite all your friends and family to watch the proposal live from wherever you choose to propose!

In private Y
Slip the ring on her finger while she’s sleeping and wake her with champagne and strawberries. At first, the gesture will simply seem romantic - the real surprise comes when she notices her new piece of jewellery.
Y
Tie a red-velvet ribbon from one spot in your home to another. Attach little notes recalling perfect moments in your relationship along the way, and at last stop would be you with a ring in hand.
Y
Create a personalized fortune cookie with your own proposal message.
Y
Spell your proposal out in glow-in-the-dark star stickers on the ceiling. Get into bed, turn the lights off and wait for the inevitable gasp.
Y
Make your own message in a bottle. On the night before a beach day you’ve planned, write a love poem on a piece of parchment paper, roll it into an antique bottle with a cork and bury it in a well-marked spot in the sand near your towels. Be sure you “find” the bottle as you dig together -- and have the ring ready.
Y
Make a list of 10 reasons you’d like to marry your beloved. Have them delivered via singing telegram or send them written on individual note cards over the course of a day (or 10), with the last card arriving by personal messenger (you).

Can you be happy for 100 days in a row? What is it ? We live in times when super-busy schedules have become something to boast about. While the speed of life increases, there is less and less time to enjoy the moment that you are in. The ability to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it, is the base for the bridge towards long term happiness of any human being. 71% of people tried to complete this challenge, but failed quoting lack of time as the main reason. These people simply did not have time to be happy. Do you?
Love tickets Well, all you got to do is, make a list of things like, breakfast in bed, massage, a special meal request, date night, drive, shopping free day, pet free day, taking care of children’s home work or anything that you would want to redeem any day. Get these printed with cute hearts and color of your choice, and give it to your partner a day in advance. P.S I love you Inspired from movie, make envelopes with letters for your loved one, and mention: “open when you need to know how much I love you.” So every time she/he misses you around, or you have had an argument, there is something that will remind the other of all the things you love about her/him and why it’s all worth it.
How can you do it? Every day submit a picture of what made you happy! It can be anything from a meet-up with a friend to a very tasty cake in the nearby coffee place, from a feeling of being at home after a hard day to a favor you did to a stranger. Why would I do that? People successfully completing the challenge claimed to: - Start noticing what makes them happy every day; - Be in a better mood every day; - Start receiving more compliments from other people; - Realize how lucky they are, to have the life they have; - Become more optimistic; - Fall in love during the challenge. #100happyday challenge is for you - not for anyone else. It is not a happiness competition or a showing off contest. If you try to please / make others jealous via your pictures - you lose without even starting. Same goes for cheating. Who should be more dominating in a relationship according to you? It actually depends on both of them, it usually happens that a guy is dominating in a relationship but there are times when the girl wants her way so there is no harm in that.
Q. What kind of a person you are in a relationship? The one thing I tell all my friends is that I am a very good friend but not such a good boyfriend. I would say I am a very possessive person in a relationship. Q. What would you do if your best friend was cheating on his girlfriend? There is no wrong or right according to me, it depends on everybody’s opinion. If he is cheating on his girlfriend I would just leave it to him, if he chooses not to admit it, I wouldn’t go and tell the girl. The whole point of being a best friend is supporting him even if he is wrong. Q. One habit that nobody knows about you? I talk a lot to myself, at times I day dream and think a lot. When a person is talking to me I would be smiling and nodding my head but I am actually not listening to the person. (laughs) Q. 3 most important things in your life? Family, friends & respect. Q. Are you open about your relationships? Not really, not until I am really sure about it. If things don’t work out then you owe a lot of explanation about it. Once I am sure and I know that the relationship wouldn’t randomly end then I am.
34 FEBRUARY, 2014
Q. Your take on two timing? I think it’s completely wrong and more of a pain, handling one itself takes so much of time & energy and when I am in a relationship I put in a lot of efforts and I don’t really have the time to think about any other person. Q. Your ideal kind of a date? I love water so I would say a date on a private yacht with a lavish dinner and champagne. Q. What does love mean to you? Love is just a word; you need a person to define it. Q. What is the most dangerous thing you have ever done? I drove into a lake in my red convertible. Q. What freaks you out the most? I don’t like being alone. It freaks me out. I always like being surrounded by people.

Armored Arts
WELLBEING
Martial Arts, Kickboxing. etc have become very popular today as a defense art to defend oneself, especially for girls. In the society we live today, it has become very necessary to learn one of these arts for self protection. Also, it is a healthy practice and helps you to remain fit and healthy. Ishna Rawlani exclusively talks to Mustafa Ali Khan, defense art expert at Souls Beauty & Wellness Centre to know more about the secret behind defense arts and its history. 1. Tell us something more about martial arts or defense arts? The idea behind martial arts is inclusive of self defense but does not cease there. Martial art to me is an instrument for materializing my highest values as a human being. I would not ask people to be satisfied only with the "benefits" of doing it. Martial arts don't just help physically, but there is a
philosophical side to it that is the essence of martial arts. Martial arts teach grace in movement and confidence, patience and grit. It’s moving meditation, frees one’s mood to express in movement. 2. How do martial arts or defense arts help in defending oneself? To start with, it depends on how one wants to defend oneself, if it's a quick knockout, you may use your training in Western Boxing. Wing Chun, which is a classical art involves swift hand movements and firm balance to decapitate the opponent in the shortest time. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a great art for women and girls which involve deadly holds capable of breaking joints at will. BJJ is great for women and girls because the practitioner is on the ground in a vulnerable position from where the practitioner can do a variety of submission holds. 3. Do you suggest this training for everyone or does it have any age restriction? Since the age we teach children morals, ethics and other values, that can be the age martial arts can come in. I don't think there is an age restriction for beginning or ceasing practice of martial arts. 4. Which is the best defense art according to you? Martial art is like love, they have different forms. To me, the idea of "best" as common to all is absurd. Is the meaning for the color black the same for you as it is for me. Blue to you might mean passion, for me it might means danger. Martial arts teaches self
knowledge, one gets to know what is right for oneself. 5. Since how many years are you into this profession? I'm into fitness since 11 years. 6. How long does it take to learn martial arts? It does not take long to learn anything. Some want to learn martial arts for getting in shape, some for self defense and some for professional fighting. 40 minutes of practice daily with a day off in the week is sound for people whose goal is fitness or self defense. 7. What other defense arts do you teach? I teach cardio kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). 8. How has been your journey been so far? So far so good. I have learnt a lot along the way about discipline, the need to push forward and also about human behavior. 9. Any tips for our readers? I believe fitness no matter in what form, is essential for everyone. Martial arts can be a form of fitness, so are other forms. If one is not inclined towards martial arts, one can always fulfill one's need for fitness through body toning exercises, weight loss exercises and cardio kickboxing. By keeping the body fit, we tend to keep a healthy mind. How to shop for Chandeliers & Lights? 1) Style: No doubt you know chandeliers & lights come in a variety of styles. If your tastes run modern and you want something a bit more glam than pendant lights, contemporary chandeliers are the answer. The best way to find a chandelier that matches your style is to see what you like at the decorating stores you already visited. Once you have an inkling of the styles you gravitate towards, trips to lighting superstores will be less overwhelming. 2) Pricing: Over the years, major retailers have made leaps and bounds when it comes to offering affordable, high-quality and stylish chandeliers. True, well-priced and eco-friendly salvaged pieces can be found at flea markets or online but exquisitely refurbished antique chandeliers can command prices well into the thousands of rupees. 3) Placement: Mark the location and follow the manufacturer’s instructions closely. Hiring a professional electrician to help you might be good idea. Safety is always the first priority when working on any home project, especially when electricity is involved. FEBRUARY, 2014 43

44 FEBRUARY, 2014
The city saw a rush of designers in a recently held exhibition. There were suits, saris, handbags, jackets, and not to forget accessories. While we enjoyed the whole turn up of big labels and brands, what we enjoyed the most was city people turning out in their best classy avatars. Satpreet Kaur got hold of her favorite celebrity designers in a fast track interview, exclusively for our readers! Vikram Phadnis What is to be expected from your latest collection: The collection is a fusion line of kalidars, tunics, salwar kurtas & a few saris too. With my latest store in Hyderabad, I have stepped into couture line too, and my latest collection is a simpler version of it. Hot trending for 2014: Well people say neons are out, but they aren’t, though they will be used in simpler way, and not overdose of it like prints and neons together. I will still be doing neons but with solid colors. As the summer approaches, pastels and white will be trending all over. Your take on Hyderabad fashion culture: I think people in Hyderabad really know what they want, that is the best part about this city. As far as my collection, I have seen them liking more of Zari & Antique work rather than stone work. Your idea about Street Shopping: I love it! I think it’s a mix and match of everything. It allows you to add your own style, it is not created style. Collection 2014: I have just flaunted my new collection of Tussers and Chanderi’s and this collection will be more of straight fit pants. What is Vikram Phadnis doing when not designing: Travelling, I love travelling, it’s my passion. What inspires you? I don’t have any inspiration as such, I am mood based designer. if I like creating black, I would, irrespective of it’s in the season or not. Must haves in every woman’s closet: A lovely set of Indian jewellery, a Sari for sure, a nice hand bag, a pair of interesting Indian Shoes, White shirt and Blue Jeans. If Vikram Phadnis was caught quoting something it would be: “Style is Personal, a designer can’t set a trend, they can just design, so don’t follow trends blindly.”
Tell us about your latest work: My latest collection, that’s now available everywhere is from my spring/summer show. We have Sarees, Jackets and the new palazzo pants along with woolen scarves. Masaba has been all about prints. Will we see something different: When people buy prints they cannot wear it too many times because it’s everywhere. Therefore, they cannot repeat it too much. So, we keep coming up with new prints seasonally but the brand will always just be about prints. What’s next in your plate: We are coming up with a store in Kolkata which is a franchise & we are concentrating more on expanding for now. Your idea of Street Shopping: If it’s good then it works, the only problem with street shopping is that it does not last long. I sometimes find really good stuff. Few years back when I was in Sarojini Market, Delhi, I found a genuine Chanel piece, it’s just that sometimes you get lucky but you really need to hunt for it. What influences you to create new prints: I think, things around me and experience I go through, influence me for my designs. What is Masaba doing if not designing: if I am not designing for my brand then I am designing for Satya Paul (Laughs), but other than that, I love travelling & reading. Must haves in a woman’s closet: Little black Dress, White Shirt with jeans, A Sari and A black Blouse. If Masaba gupta was caught quoting something, it would be: “Be fearless and embrace your identity as much as you can.”
Amit Aggarwal
FASHION
Your designs are very fresh and unique, what’s in your mind when you design: The design philosophy of my label is to do lot of architectural clothing. We infuse the designs of all the interesting buildings and the works of different architects & we have tried giving them an Indian touch in the form of sarees.
TULIP
Masaba Gupta
Your favorite Muse: We look into the interesting bits here, like Kangana & Richa Chaddha. More than looks it is how interesting the character are as individuals. Fashion forecast for 2014: Lots of shimmer! Whether people like it or not. Fashion Culture in India: Fashion Culture all over India is almost the same, but when you introduce new sensibility to market, it takes a lot of time for people to adjust with it. Your Inspiration: A lot of it is from my life itself; I don’t really follow the rules & forecast of fashion. Our main aim is to look into what exactly does a woman want! A national brand you would love to collaborate with: Good Earth, because they have a very strong philosophy like our label does. It is very unapologetic about how they feel. We don’t have 2 lakh people wanting our stuff but even if we have 2000 in the whole country we are content with it. Upcoming collection: Keeping the design philosophy same, coming up with new designs is the whole idea, which is a challenge in itself. We use lot of deep colors in our collection keeping in mind the heritage jewellery that Indian women wear. If Amit Aggarwal was caught quoting something it would be: I would be able to answer this three years down the line because I am too young to make a legacy.

They look completely classy with Palazzos/Denims.
Don’ts: 1) Bell Bottom pants

Don’ts: 1) Clothes that are too small. You aren’t quite sure to flaunt some skin at this age.
2) Smokey eyes with loud lip colors. You could either be heavy on your lips or on your eyes.
2) Denims that are hanging below your waist line. It is“Hell No’’ attire for men.
2) Too much of accessories. It distracts away from your clothing and too much for your age.
3) Dull colored clothes. They don’t make you feel young at all!
3) Avoid plain pastel colors. This would not be an age to experiment with pastels.
3) Printed jazzy tees. We are not talking about banning tee shirts but choosing the right one for your body type would be better.

2) Wearing sneakers or converse shoes. It looks too much for formal subtle attire.
2) Jazzy prints on shirts. (This could be the biggest fashion faux pass at this age). 3) Mismatching clothes. Getting your color combinations right is very essential.
2) Going for heavy animal prints in clothes could be a turn off but accessorizing with animal prints is a great option. 3) Trying out funky hairstyles.
2) Steel band watch. (Strappy leather bands would be more preferred with young boys). 3) Formal dark colored shoes. It is a must have for every man.
3) Too much of vibrant colors. (Choosing the right color and matching it perfectly is the idea here). FEBRUARY, 2014 47

Stay Natural
Stay Beautiful!
Rushing past everyday’s hustle bustle, more often than not, the one unending problem people face is ‘No time.’ You wake up, skim through early morning activities and then rush to the summons of your jobs, leaving absolutely no time for cleansing the bacteria and dirt accumulated within the pores of your skin over time! Sounds familiar? Don’t fret! This season go ‘All natural’ and bring out the best of your skin.
For a magnificent face - Radiant Face Pack: In a bowl, take a slice of bread and soak it with 2 tbsp milk, ½ tbsp sugar, a tsp of olive oil and finally a few strands of saffron. Mix this well until it forms a creamy texture, massage it over your face and neck and leave it for around 30 mins. Rinse with cold water. It is important to use cold water, as it closes the open pores of the face, leaving it supple and soft. Not only does it give your face a vibrant glow but also reduces fine lines.
Daily beauty care forms an essential part of one’s life. Salons and spas require leisure time that everyone does not have, but with the help of some brilliant natural remedies, one needs very little time in getting that fabulous, flawless skin that tops the wish list of every girl! Natural products are completely organic with no traces of chemicals that are safe for the skin. Most cosmetics are toxic. It’s horrifying to hear, but they are! Natural remedies come to our rescue here, right from the books of our grandmas, who never saw a wrinkle until their late 50’s! Here are some of the easiest natural remedies that require very little time to implement. These fit into the ridiculously busy schedules of the metropolitan crowd and work wonders on the skin, body and health. 54 FEBRUARY, 2014
Smooth, soft skin using red wine - Adding a cup of red wine to your bathing water works wonders! It works as an exfoliator and leaves you with a radiant, soft and supple skin that makes you feel intoxicated with happiness!
Home-made chocolate lip gloss - Take a small amount of melted chocolate, mix with some Vaseline or your favorite lip balm and heat it in a microwave for a minute at 90o. After it cools down, you are ready to use your favorite chocolate lip balm that makes you want to indulge in the pure divinity of chocolate. Doesn’t it sound sinfully divine??
Bye - Bye dark circles - Put used tea bags (rich in anti-oxidants) in the freezer. While these are chilling, apply olive oil around your eyelids, leave for 10 minutes. Then place the chilled tea bags on your eyelids for 15 minutes, remove, wash, dry and moisturize your face as usual. Add bling to the blink!
For beauteous feet - Beautiful and soft feet sans the cracks: In a bucket of warm water, add ½ cup of baking soda. Soak your feet in this and let it rest for 30 minutes. The warm water will extract all traces of stress from your feet and the baking soda will instantly heal the cracks making your feet 3 times softer. Do this at least twice a month to get crack free feet!
For lustrous hair – Soft, Silky hair: Mix well, 3 tbsp of Olive Oil and 2 Eggs. Apply this mixture to your hair and let it dry for around 30 minutes. Remember to hold the hair in place with a shower cap. Olive Oil hydrates the dry locks and the protein of the eggs give a dazzling shine and immense strength to the hair, leaving it soft at touch. An added tip would be to rinse the hair with lime juice mixed in water, as it removes the smell of the eggs and maintains the shine. Control hair grey - Prepare a cup of black tea and add a tablespoon of salt to it. Massage your scalp with this lukewarm tea. Let it stay on your hair for at least half an hour and then rinse it off. Who says graying can’t be controlled? Look astounding and lively. From the expert herself: The last few weeks, it seems as if everyone has been hit with late night parties, cold, wheezing cough, running nose and aching body. Instead of going heavy on your pocket, here are some home remedy tips to keep yourself hale and hearty Mint: Crush a spring of mint leaves and apply the crushed leaves to dark under eye circles. Leave it on for 20 minutes then rinse. Twice a week and you are set for the next party with beautiful eyes. Coconut oil: This stuff works like magic. Rub it all over your face after every shower and one week later: Bye, bye cellulite, shrunk pores face. Grapes: Red grapes carry antioxidant powers which are amazing for luminous skin. Make a paste by mashing up a handful of the fruit and add 2 tablespoons of white flour. Apply
the mask to your face and leave it on for 10 minutes before washing it off. It wakes up the appearance of tired and fatigued skin to give you an amazing glow. Milk: The lactic acid in milk serves as a natural skin brightener, while its natural fat content acts as a body moisturizer. Add a gallon of whole milk to a tubful of warm water and soak. It’s a great alternative to sugar and salt scrubs, which may be too abrasive for people who suffer from eczema, psoriasis, or sensitive skin. If you prefer a fragranced bath, add 10 to 20 drops of an essential oil, such as lavender. Ruby Bal, Makeup Artist

Travelling has always been a passion. Being a globe trotter, visiting exotic places like Mauritius, snowy lands of Switzerland or the towns of Europe, I try to include surreal places in my yearly vacation. I’m fond of travelling to unusual places because of the thrill and serendipity which gives me an adrenaline rush, be it small towns to cities and countries. A few places I’d love to visit are Green passage way also called the “love tunnel” in Ukraine, Cook Islands in New Zealand, Tasmania’s Totem Pole in Australia, Under water Yacht in Antarctica, Blue hole in Hawaii, The Swing at the “End of the World” in Ecuador and many more. There’s always something interesting about the road not taken. Nehal Saraogi, Student, NIFT 58 FEBRUARY, 2014
The world is full of exotic places each one having their own history and magnificence. I spend my time and energy in going to such places because it can be sufficiently described as an experience from another life. I get to live in very different climatic conditions, see rare and beautiful wildlife and experience variegated cultures very different from ours. A few of such places that I'd like to visit are Vale Da Lua in Brazil, Pamukkale in Turkey and Sanqingshan in China etc. The rich and peaceful experience one gains in visiting on a beautiful but deserted island, or on a snow capped mountain side town is unparalleled. I travel all through the year. Apart from visiting popular tourist places like New York City or Singapore, nothing matches the thrill that one gets in traveling to places less known but no less in beauty. At a recently held Bollywood awards function, the unthinkable happened. Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan were snapped greeting Rekha. However, unlike their other meetings where Amitabh and Jaya have avoided Rekha publicly, this one was different. While Amitabh and Rekha were seen exchanging a ‘namaste’, wife Jaya and Rekha, who was rumored to be the ‘other woman,’ in Big B’s life, were seen holding hands. We don’t know if these gestures are simply cordial ones or have the Bachchans let bygones be bygones? That is something to wait and watch.

As you work for television now, tell us the whole experience and what you enjoy doing more? In movies the shoot would wrap up in a few days and I would switch to the next projects. As TV actor, I work very hard, 29 days a month, 15 hours every day and I get to play the character for a longer time. My vote would go for Television; I’d say it is a thrilling experience. How would you describe your real life personality? I am a very non-judgmental person, chilled out and posses a much laid back attitude. I am easy to live with, likes to live life on my own terms and I love sleeping and eating good food ( pizzas being his favorite). One fact that people do not know about you? That I am a very lazy person and I love to sleep. What is a regular day for you if you aren’t working? I wake up, have my breakfast then hit the gym to work out and then have lunch, laze around a bit and meet up a few friends.
Uday Kiran’s Mysterious Death
In a shocking incident, Telugu cinema hero Uday Kiran died by committing suicide. Initial reports say that the actor died after taking the extreme step in his flat at Srinagar colony. Later, he was rushed to a private hospital where the doctors declared him dead. The reasons for Uday Kiran’s death were his financial problems, but more than that, he could not come to grips with reality after Tollywood nudged him out at a time when he was establishing himself as a hero.
If not an actor, what profession would you be into? I would definitely be a Stock Broker. Your take on Stardom and do you enjoy it? For me stardom is very short-lived, it does affect your personal life and you are answerable to a lot of people. Yes, I do enjoy it as one should know how to handle it in a positive way. Person that inspires you the most? My mom, she really inspires me and I look up to her. What next? Right now I am working on “Kehta Hai Dil.. Jee Le Zara “on Sony, after the show, I would take a long break for 2 months. Directors you would love to work with? I would love to work with Satish Kaushik as I share a really good rapport with him and have worked with him before ( In the movie Tere Sang) , Farah Khan as she seems to be a very fun person to work with. Any plans of visiting Hyderabad? I have visited Hyderabad once during one of my movie promotions; I would surely love to make a visit sometime soon this year.

MOVIES Movie Reviews
Wolf of Wall Street Director : Martin Scorsese. Starring : Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Bernthal. Jon Favreau, and Jean Dujardin. Martin Scorsese opens The Wolf of Wall Street with a succession of quick scenes which tell us exactly what is in store for us over next three hours; Fast cars, massive houses, private boats, beautiful women and drugs. Lots and lots of drugs. Moreover, the film neither condemns their behavior nor shows us that greed doesn’t have its consequences. Credit must also go to DiCaprio and Jonah Hill for matching Scorsese’s direction with equally energetic and dynamic performances. Unashamedly, DiCaprio puts everything into this role, never letting his A-List status hold him back from fully embodying Belfort and the greed culture, whilst giving one of 2013’s funniest and liveliest performances. Jai Ho Director: Sohail Khan Starring: Salman Khan, Daisy Shah The political groups can never be wise and the Indian cinema since years has been emphasizing over corruption, digging the social and biased system of our nation. Amidst this, the insanity is taken a few notches higher and suddenly there is a man with certain force to make a big difference. And everything ends finally. So what is new in Sohail Khan’s “Jai Ho”? The story of Jai Ho is far too simplistic to be taken seriously. While it’s laudable that Khan plays the righteous Samaritan, he doesn’t progress beyond the help-eachother-out phase. The gory action sequences are all orchestrated to highlight Khan’s buffed- up body and there’s one too many. On the whole, a noble, well-intentioned message narrated in an entertaining format in a Salman Khan movie, who, as we all know by now, is the much endeared hero of the masses, makes Jai Ho a sure-shot winner. In fact, it won’t be wrong to state that Jai Ho easily ranks amongst Salman’s better films. This one has the potential to emerge as a blockbuster at the box-office. One – Nenokkadine Director : Sukumar Starring : Mahesh Babu & Kriti Sanon The film is about a young chap Gautham who goes in search of his identity and true self. Sukumar, who is known for his puzzling screenplay and treatment, once again pens a revenge drama on similar lines. The psychological thriller is loaded with good high action sequences and settled performances from the lead pair. Mahesh Babu delivers a superb performance and shoulders the film well. He flaunts a toned body and is also seen going shirtless for a scene. Kriti Sanon did well in her debut and has managed to add glam to the film. Nenokkadine is good and will keep you wanting for more. The story has a few interesting twists and turns, the second half too keeps the audience glued to the screen. Sukumar should be commended for superb attempt in choosing to make a film that has not been explored in Telugu movies.

Know Your Fortune FORTUNE
- Tarot reading by Nupur Heda
AQUARIUS
Year 2014 for Capricorn
(January 20 - February 18)
Aquarius, your February astrology predicts positive as well as negative news for you. The beginning of the month is awesome with a peaceful and happy family life. Your children will achieve success and your family atmosphere will be quite happening. There are chances for you to make some charity and serve mankind. Stress and problems will maintain a safe distance from you, according to the cards. Financially, you will earn huge profits; provided you keep a check on your expenses. According to the angels, other good things scheduled are purchase of luxury items, a fruitful trip or holiday with friends and popularity between people of opposite sex. Be careful as there may be some useless allegations against you on work front and your friends can become your enemies. Angels suggests you to avoid any sort of quarrels during this period. Love Tip for Valentine’s: If you are patient, you will spare yourself grief, while truth reveals itself in its own good time. In the end, you may find yourselves incorporating elements from both sides!
PISCES
Birthday Special: Being too preoccupied on the professional front may leave you with little or no time for your personal life this year. There shall be a sense of disconnect with your family members and frequently you shall find that you are not on the same page as them. However, you may expect some remarkable changes on both fronts, even though you may not be able to balance both. You shall become very ambitious professionally, and shall be in a tearing rush to climb to the top. Try to squeeze out some time for your near and dear ones. Joint assets and inheritances are issues that will need to be tackled.
TAURUS
(February 19 - March 20) Pisces, February is not a very good month for you. In the beginning of the month, you are advised not to take any risk on business front as huge losses are clearly visible. Cards suggest you to avoid going near water because water may harm you. Travelling is also not favorable for you. As per the Angels, friends will become foes and will try to harm you in every possible way. Your health may remain affected by fever, cough, eye-problem or any form of injury. Cards predict that you may go to a pilgrimage or can purchase a vehicle too. Everyone in your family and friend circle will support you and your efforts will be appreciated. Possibilities are that you can buy a land or any other valuable possession. Loan approvals, fame and recognition will follow you. Ending of the month will be same as the beginning with health issues, losses and unexpected expenses.
(April 20 - May 20) Ups and downs are on your February cards. The month is not good in terms of physical and mental comforts. As per the predictions, health troubles will take away the physical relief and mental stress from work place. Keep a close eye on your enemies because they will not leave any chance to tarnish your reputation in your family and among your friends. You are a spendthrift when it comes to luxuries and comforts of life and so chances are clear that you will face loss of money. Angels suggests you to stay away from women as they can harm you; and jealous people will show their negative side at their best. Spirituality and religious deeds will help you. Cough and asthmatic problems are also predictable. You may feel lost and confused. Ending of the month is somewhat better with possibilities of rewards from seniors and a beneficial journey is expected.
Love Tip for Valentine’s: If you sink into depression about what is lost, you may get nowhere. Focus on the value that still remains, and make the best of it as optimistically as possible.
Love Tip for Valentine’s: A relationship may have the power to turn you in a whole new direction. If you feel lost, try using your empathy and intuition rather than your logical mind.
ARIES
(March 21 - April 19) As per the cards, this is the month to concentrate on your career as success is waiting for you. You will get profits from business associates and will explore golden opportunities. In February, you will also enjoy some beautiful romantic moments with your partner. The angels say, you can have some successful trips and this time is also favorable for the students. As per the cards you may lose the sweetness of your relationship with some loved ones and health and finances can trouble you. Money will come for sure, but will go out with equal ease. The cards foretell switching job is not a good idea and problem from your child’s side is also possible. The ray of hope will reach you in the ending of the month with settlement of all pending issues and problems. Luck and prosperity will come your way and all your hard times would be over. Love Tip for Valentine’s: You are becoming increasingly aware of how much value you have to contribute to your next relationship. But first, you have to become magnetic. 78 FEBRUARY, 2014
GEMINI
(May 21 - June 20) Complimentary stars are indicating happy married life in February. If expecting a child, birth of a girl child is on the cards. For students, the time is good academically and they will excel in their fields. As per the cards, next week is not so favorable. Financial gains won’t let you gain much and the time is risky for the life of one of your family members. You can take a break from your work and go on a holiday or a trip with your dear ones. Meeting some famous personalities is also possible. With the departure of this favorable period, is the arrival of unnecessary expenses and you will feel restless and weak. But again, with the ending of the month, you will get the pleasure of stable life and harmonious family life. Professionally, the period is very good and promotion can be expected. Love Tip for Valentine’s: You can’t expect to feel this way forever- it’s not logical. But for now, who cares?
(June 21 - July 22) The beginning of February will make you cherish the feel of royalty with showers of pleasant surprises. As per the cards, you will get some good news from your relatives or spouse. The time is also favorable for wealth gain as well as profits from agreements or contracts. Angels suggest you to take care of your health, as neglecting any minor health problem can turn into a major one leading to further problems. Cards foretell that business journeys will turn out fruitful and you will find new sources of income. A new vehicle, jewellery or spending on luxuries are predictable. Relation with your family and friends will grow stronger and you will live the life at its best. Love Tip for Valentine’s: Often people feel much better just having talked out their differences. Sometimes the solution simply lies in listening.
LEO
(July 23 - August 22) A fantastic beginning for sure with fruitful journeys and promotions is seen in February. You will be very clear about your thoughts and would be master in implementing them in the best way. You will enjoy the company of your siblings and people of opposite sex. Pressure of work will increase and you will find yourself under the burden of responsibilities. Cards predict eye and ear related troubles and also some health issues from your partner’s side. Perfect balance between your professional as well as domestic life will help you take things easily. Your superiors will guide you and possibility of meeting old friends is also there. You will enjoy fame and appreciation and birth of a child or child related news is also possible. If you are single, planning for a relationship then the time does not allow you for that. Love Tip for Valentine’s: This is a good time to assert your individuality. Even a partner must step aside as you move forward in your own life.
VIRGO
(August 23 - September 22) What can be more awesome than arrival of a month with get-togethers, appreciation from superiors and financial gain? Virgo get ready to live the moment as it comes. Cards predict progress on the professional front and it is assured, though you will feel overburdened with responsibilities of work and home. Your position will improve followed by rise of income and huge profits. However, making huge investments is not advised as your family members, friends and associates will leave you alone and health can also trouble you. Sudden losses will disturb you and you will feel frustrated and over-burdened. In the end of the month money loss, enemies, risks; all will cross your way indicating that the period is not satisfactory. Change in place or job is expected in coming months which won’t help much. Love Tip for Valentine’s: Strongly consider doing whatever it takes to support and invest in the dream you and your future partner hold together.
LIBRA
(September 23 - October 22) February brings some initial unfavorable moments for you. Health complications for you and your parents are predicted by the cards and you may miss all the professional opportunities coming your way. With progress in the month, things will get normal; promotion and

FORTUNE recognition will treat you. For students appearing for examinations, success is guaranteed. There will be a boost in your level of confidence. Success, fame, friendly relations and progress will cherish you if you sincerely work for them. You will become a leader and your life partner, friends as well as seniors would love to be around you. In the coming months, don’t try to switch your job as everything is just perfect the way it is. Love Tip for Valentine’s: Even though we can learn a lot from the past, we must remember that power lies in the present.
SCORPIO
(October 23 - November 21) Beginning of February is not favorable for matters related to heart. Maintain distance from love and romance and try to be calm instead. If you pay attention towards your career then you will get some very good results. Unnecessary expenses should be avoided. You will feel irritated and unsatisfied as far as your professional life is concerned. Enemies will try to approach and harm you. Angels foretell, scorpions may face excessive cold and cough problems. Financial loss, health complications, conflicts over small issues will worsen the situation. By mid of the month suddenly all things will start sorting out on their own and there will be a tremendous amount of energy in you. Purchasing land, vehicle or making big investment should be delayed for some time. Taking any major decision needs to be postponed. Love Tip for Valentine’s: It is not in your best interests to be competitive or combative at this time.
SAGITTARIUS
(November 22 - December 21) February is a month of financial stability and reshaping your career in the way you want it to be. Love, romance and friendship, all will serve the best and you will enjoy them for sure. Accidents and major injuries can also be expected, so be careful. Your attitude of switching jobs over a certain period of time will create problems and will give birth to disappointments. Improving your socializing level will help you in getting great rewards. Angels predict an auspicious ceremony and prosperity in family is on the cards. In the mid of the month, you will get good news from your children’s side as they will climb ladder of success. Angels suggest you to control your expenses. Luck, prosperity and happiness all are on your side. Love Tip for Valentine’s: Be open to new recipes and share whatever you learn from this experience.
CAPRICORN
(December 22 - January 19) After last month’s failures and disappointments, February marks a beginning of all good things for you. This is a month of success; your seniors will support you for your highly ambitious nature and dedication for work. You will get high income and will enjoy this period of life. Cards say luck is in your pocket, but don’t let overconfidence harm you. Angels foretell that you will come in the contact of higher officials, which will lead to increase in your fame. The month has a lot to offer you in every aspect. Personal and professional life would be at their best and you can get an exciting job offer or a great hike in income. You should avoid depending on others and should do your work on your own. Love Tip for Valentine’s: Celebrate and support a renewed sense of adventure moving towards the vision of an ideal relationship.
