IMAN
ZAIDI
In the world of beauty, few artists possess the unique blend of creativity, technique, and passion that Iman Zaidi brings to the table. With a remarkable portfolio that spans everything from bridal glamour to high-fashion editorial looks, Iman has made a name for herself in the industry.
In this interview, we delve into Imans journey, exploring their inspirational techniques, and the transformative power of makeup.
Q. 10 years in the field of makeup artistry, how has the journey been so far?
Just like a fairy tale, the beginning is always a little rough and sad The middle years are a learning and persevering process Then the time comes when all the hardwork starts to work like magic. This is my 10th year in the industry. I began when I was 19 years old
Q. A journey this long must’ve had its ups and downs, what is the most important lesson you learnt from it?
Any form of business teaches you a lot about life and the experiences one gains from this are found nowhere in books The most important lesson according to me is the art of discipline. It teaches you to be consistent and show up without any excuses and to ignore any form of distractions that tempt you to stray from your goals and realities The downs when taken positively are actually your best guides.
3. At what point in life did it become clear to you that this the field/career for you?
During my late teens it was understood that I’d become a doctor because I scored the highest in my subjects but an incident occurred and I could no longer find the courage to become a doctor The only thing that kept me away from depression was art and beauty. I started pursuing this so passionately that I ended up choosing a Masters Degree in Cosmetology. Ever since there has been no looking back. It was decided that I want to be a Professional Makeup Artist
4. How would you describe your signature look?
While I am known for my great versatility in art work, every artist gradually develops a unique signature style. Mine would be the flawless rosy and glowing base with a well blended soft finish to the eyes that have just the right balance of sparkles and smokes.
5. Which element of your work do you enjoy the most?
If you’d ask my younger version I would have said playing with colours but with passing time I’ve been more interested in interacting with my lovely clients and how each one brings a different perspective to life I’d say it’s the brides life & love stories that I enjoy most. Getting to know so many different people are also like understanding the blend of different colours that people carry within them and that’s just so fascinating.
6. What is beauty for you?
Anything and everything that makes you realise the beauty of God and the Universe Every human carries their own unique set of features and each one has diverse opinions of beauty. It is the ability to see beauty through another’s eyes is what makes everything special and beautiful.
7. What inspires you even today, to get up and get to work?
For a long time I thought that I am doing this for myself but honestly I’ve realised that somewhere out there is a girl admiring my work and aiming to reach her goals. She thinks of me so highly that if I were to stumble or stop Her hopes and dreams would collapse So I owe it to all the candle of hopes that are aiming to become someone, the ones that are struggling to make dreams happen They unknowingly motivate me while I’m subconsciously inspiring them and it’s such a blessed balance of life
8. How has social media influenced the beauty industry?
Businesses would run by the old gold standards of a satisfied customer The word of mouth was the real deal and still is. Social media has its many advantages for advertising ones work and making connections all over the world. People may not necessarily be your clients but they have admiration and appreciation for the work you do For business owners sometimes social media might become a disappointment or distraction, swaying you away in following trends and songs. This misleads you into thinking likes and comments are more important than the true art of buying & selling Beauty industry has seen a massive change as Beauty influencers from across the globe are increasingly becoming known. Every girl is aware of the beauty standards and styling skills from each part of the world.
9. What is the most challenging look you have had to attempt in all these years?
I am actually known for doing extremely challenging eye makeup looks. It was in the initial stages that creating eyeshadow blends out of my usual styles would be extremely challenging and difficult. With passing time I’ve adopted so many different skills and techniques that it doesn’t seem challenging at all The toughest challenge according to me is suggesting a fixed mind person to try something out which might suit them more.
10. Share something about yourself that you would like the world to know. People now mostly know me as Iman Zaidi, the makeup artist but I would like my people to know that there was once a shy and brokenhearted girl with hopes and dreams She wasn’t known by them but they did a lot for her Every kind word they’ve sent my way and every little act of support I’ve received from them has acted like a bandage on wounds they didn’t cause. My deepest gratitude to those kind hearted souls who uplifted me and allowed me to unleash my strength and artistic freedom for the world to see I may not know them personally but they have my respect, affection and prayers.

Being very true to its name, the Hyderabadi special Double Ka Meetha is a dessert that will actually double your happiness and satisfaction, as soon as you’ll take a bite of it!
Double ka meetha also known as Shahi Tukda, is an Indian bread pudding sweet made of fried bread slices soaked in warm milk along with sugar syrup, saffron and cardamom.
It is popular in Hyderabadi cuisine, served at every other occasion as weddings, parties or festivals.
About my recipe:
There are numerous ways to make double ka meetha but this recipe is made in the simplest way in a Hyderabadi local style with minimal ingredients.
White bread, ghee, evaporated milk, sugar and flavoring spices are the key in this recipe with generous number of nuts, raisins (optional) & khoya (optional) are used for garnishing.
Double ka meetha recipe:
Total time: 45 mins
Servings: 4-5
INGREDIENTS
One whole bakery bread – white (dry bread)
Ghee for frying
1 liter full-fat milk
150 gms condensed milk
1 tsp khalakand
2-3 cups of sugar
½ liter water
½ tsp cardamom powder
½ tsp orange food color (optional)
Edible silver foil (optional)
Khoya (optional)
Dry fruits
Method:
1. Preparation of Bread:
- Cut the bread slices into quarters or triangles.
- Heat ghee in a pan and fry the bread pieces until they are golden brown and crispy.
- Remove and place the fried bread pieces on paper towels to absorb excess ghee.
2. Making the Sugar Syrup:
- In a separate pan, combine the sugar and water. Heat it until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Add cardamom powder, saffron, food colour to the syrup for flavor.
- Once the sugar gets dissolved, let it simmer for a couple of minutes and remove from heat.
3. Preparing the Milk Mixture:
- In another pot, boil the full-fat milk. Once it comes to a boil, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until it thickens slightly.
- Add condensed milk, khalakand, khoya to the milk and stir well until it melts and combines with the milk.
4. Assembling Double Ka Meetha:
- In a big vessel, layer the fried bread pieces.
- Pour the sugar syrup over the bread, ensuring it soaks well. Let it sit for a few minutes on a simmer flame.
- Finally, pour the thickened milk mixture over the soaked bread.
- Cook for 10-15 mins until the milk mixture gets all soaked up.
5. Garnishing:
- Garnish with edible silver foil, fried cashews, almonds on top or your choice of dry fruits.
6. Serving:
- Let it cool for a bit before serving. It can be served warm or chilled, depending on your preference. Enjoy your delicious Double Ka Meetha!

Khubani Ka Meetha is a traditional Indian dessert that hails from Hyderabadi cuisine, known for its rich flavors and royal heritage. Celebrating Diwali: A Festival of Lights, Love, and Family Traditions
Diwali with family is an unforgettable tapestry of joy, warmth, and cherished traditions. The day begins with early morning rituals, the house buzzing with excitement as everyone pitches in to decorate with twinkling lights and fragrant marigold garlands. Kitchens are alive with the rich aroma of sweets and snacks being prepared together, each bite a reminder of childhood memories and shared laughter. As the sun dips, families gather for the Lakshmi Puja, a prayer for prosperity, followed by the sparkle of sparklers and the thrill of fireworks lighting up the sky. It’s a time to pause, appreciate loved ones, and make memories that will shine just as brightly in our hearts as the diyas illuminating the night.

What are some special traditions or rituals your family follows during diwali?
During Diwali especially being a south Indian we have a special ritual in Telangana which is called the Deepavali Harathulu where in the early hours before sunrise the women in the family give harathis to the men in the family and the men take blessings from the women as they are considered the incarnation of Lakshmi Devi.
We also perform Kedarnath Nomu pooja which is a special vratham that we perform during Diwali for the well being of the family!
How do you typically prepare for diwali?
Any personal moments in the lead-up to the festival?
Preps start almost a week ahead by cleaning the house especially the puja room. On the day of Diwali involves thalantu ( Hair oil massage ) dishti ( warding of evil sight) and Harathi being main We do the laxmi puja in the evening after which only we decorate the house with diyas.
What is one dish you absolutely have to have in your diwali menu?
Diwali reminds me of something we have been having since childhood it's called pheni ! It's a thin silky sugary sewiya strands piled uptogether which is had by dipping in hot milk! Oh my mouth waters ! Quite a famous sweet during Diwali in Telangana!
What is your favorite part of diwali?
Favorite part obviously has to be gathering with the entire family and burning crackers ! Also love the memory of lighting up the entire exterior of the house with diyas which used to take quit a lot of time since childhood was always big independent houses !
What is one personal memory from a past diwali that really stands out to you?
Last Diwali was special as its mostly about my kids now burning crakers as they are growing big and me enjoying looking at them and also slowly teaching them our traditions !

What are some special traditions or rituals your family follows during diwali?
To us, Diwali is extremely special where we shop, eat, deliver prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and make sure to keep everything around us super clean. One of the most special and important traditions that my family has been following since forever is... The DIWALI Deep CLEANING. It may sound very weird but it is very important to start cleaning up the home, the work place and every important space around us at least a week before Diwali cuz it is said that Goddess Laksmi loves to visit clean spaces and lit homes. So cleaning and lights are very important to us. Also we buy something special maybe jewellery or a household item during Dhanteras which is just 2 days before Diwali.
How do you typically prepare for diwali? Any personal moments in the lead-up to the festival?
We decorate the house right from the outside lights to the inside of the home with lot of sweets and diyas around. We don't believe in heavy cracker bursting as it emits harmful chemicals in the air and loud noise. We only bring the sparkles home for the shagun. Mostly we believe in doing Goddess Lakshmi's Puja at home and at our office. Then give out sweets and Bonus to our staff and help. We do take pictures with our staff and family members which is very special to us. My mom makes sure that everything is set well in advance and we just dress up and enjoy the festivity.
What is one dish you absolutely have to have in your diwali menu?
I wait for it throughout the year. This is absolutely the most amazing Indian sweet I love to eat and enjoy to the max. We send it out to our loved ones as well and anyone who comes home to meet and greet us.
What is your favorite part of diwali?
The most favourite part of Diwali has to be the Gujiya and the time when loved ones come home to visit and bring in Diwali gifts. Lol just kidding but it definitely lights up the home brighter with people coming in to shower their greetings and love. We always have a diwali get together at home which is absolutely the best time for all of us.
What is one personal memory from a past diwali that really stands out to you?
Has to be the time when all my friends were in the same city and would have a blast until the wee hours almost 5:00 - 6:00 am Playing poker, enjoying great food and company. Now everyone lives apart in different countries so it isn't the same anymore but I will always cherish that time of the festivities.

For me it’s always Biriyani and black dal. Our family swears by it .

What is one personal memory from a past diwali that really stands out to you? It has always been Diwali from my childhood , when air quality index wasn’t even a thing My father and I would burst crackers through the night and celebrate in the simplest of ways, while dealing with complains from neighbours But yet, it was truly and simply a festival of lights and prosperity back then.

One dish that’s a must-have on our Diwali menu is besan ladoo. The sweet aroma of roasted gram flour mixed with ghee and sugar fills the house and brings back fond memories of my childhood.

What are the various types of diabetes and what is the difference between them?
In India, diabetes is mainly categorized into two types: Type 1 and Type 2 Type 1 diabetes, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes, occurs when the body produces little or no insulin. On the other hand, Type 2 diabetes, or non-insulin dependent diabetes, typically develops when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough. When diabetes occurs in young children, it is commonly known as Junior Diabetes
What are some of the common symptoms?
Some common symptoms of diabetes include frequent urination, known as polyuria, excessive thirst, and a general sense of weakness or fatigue Many individuals also experience numbness, tingling sensations, or a loss of sensation, particularly in the hands and feet.
What are some of the common misconceptions related to diabetes?
One of the most common misconceptions about diabetes is the belief that home remedies, such as lemon juice, bitter gourd juice, or neem leaves, can cure the condition. While these remedies may provide temporary relief for some individuals, there is no solid scientific evidence to support their effectiveness as a cure for diabetes. In fact, relying solely on these remedies without proper medical treatment can sometimes lead to serious complications, including kidney failure over time.
What are some of the common mistakes people with diabetes do?
A common mistake people make is skipping their medication and neglecting regular check-ups We evaluate the effectiveness of prescribed medications during check-ups and adjust the dosage or change the medicine as needed Missing a dose or skipping a check-up can disrupt this process and lead to complications.
What are some of the risk factors for type 2?
One of the significant risk factors associated with Type 2 diabetes is an increased likelihood of heart attacks or strokes Additionally, complications such as cataracts and declining kidney function can also arise as potential risks. Proper management of diabetes is essential to help mitigate these serious health issues
What’s the role of exercise and sleep in curing diabetes?
At least 4 hours of sleep is essential for everyone. Exercise is also important, with a minimum of 1 hour recommended For elderly individuals, walking in short intervals 15-20 minutes followed by a break and then another 15-20 minutes can be beneficial. Alternatively, they can engage in breathing exercises while resting in bed for added physical activity.

How to deal with stress?
The pandemic has changed the landscape of our minds and bodies and how we deal with what has hit us cannot be one that is a simple band-aid solution. Often, we are grappling with something big like the grief of people we have lost, or the jobs we have lost, continue to keep or exhaust ourselves in. Stress is not just burnout because you have been doing a lot of work, it is also emotional and mental exhaustion that doesn’t help you access creativity, connection, and presence in your life. In the midst of what we have been experiencing as a global community, dealing with stress is not a simple parlor trick we can unbox and keep going back to life as it were (which is more stress!)
I believe that while there are scores of tricks and tricks to deal with stress that we can access freely with an internet search, the best thing, to begin with, would be a check-in with yourself. It helps to find time with ourselves to ponder about the stressors in our lives, to take stock of the many wonderful ways in which we already ‘deal’ with stress (even listening to music, taking a breath while you are buckling your seat belt before heading to work, all how you offer yourself to rest, pause and joy count!) And then really consider how systems of competition, oneupmanship, and rules that bind you to a typical way of being are stunting your natural ability to be present to yourself and the community you call home. Systems of capitalism and patriarchy are not built to help us ‘deal’ with stress. Our resistance to these systems and the joys we find outside of them are typically the best ways of dealing with stress.
What are the signs of exhaustion?
While there are typical signs that are present and pretty common sensical such as poor sleep, appetite, fatigue, not feeling rested, anxious, irritability, etc., it helps for each person to take stock of times when they have not felt exhaustion and times when they are feeling exhaustion and see what are ways in which they respond when exhausted. While largely we all may have common signs of exhaustion, chronic stress is so pervasive that it can manifest in ways we least expect.
How can mental struggle manifest physically?
Body and mind are intricately connected. Anxiety is both a physiological and psychological manifestation and so is having high Blood Pressure. There is no way we can take care of one and not take care of the other and experience well-being.
How do you not let anxiety affect your social
life?
Anxiety shows up in different ways. It is important to understand when anxiety shows up and how and why as well. It is also important to acknowledge that anxiety is the body’s natural response to what is not okay in the environment. If anxiety is affecting your social life, perhaps it doesn’t feel safe to be among the kinds of people you were with. Or perhaps getting out itself doesn’t feel safe (understandable given the world we live in.) So, it is important to titrate and explore what feels safe for us and what we might be willing to stretch into to have a social life. Perhaps we prefer to be in small groups but have been told that to ‘network’, ‘fit in’ and ‘seem cool’ we need to be seen in big groups. It is time we step away from the discourses that affect our natural capacity for connection and begin to explore what connection feels like. Perhaps anxiety has a message here, it’s trying to help but slowing us down and becoming willing to explore with curiosity.
How to help someone who seems to be withdrawing socially?
Wonderful question! This is for people who notice their loved ones being socially withdrawn. As people who care, it is important to be willing to engage in conversations. Asking the person how you can help, being present for conversations about what is causing them social withdrawal and perhaps asking if they’d like to be supported to see a therapist are some wonderful ways to offer presence and support. If you are an employer, a parent, or a spouse, support comes in terms of more tangible help.
How to maintain relations while going through a rough time mentally?
This can be a hard one to do. It is important to access and ensure that you have a circle of support from family, friends, and a therapist. It is also important to learn to draw boundaries. There may be things you cannot do when you are experiencing strife and honoring what the body can and cannot do in a time like this is important.
How to help someone with suicidal thoughts?
If someone is distressed, depressed, or extremely anxious and you notice this, it is important to lend a listening ear and be present for them. If you find that it is difficult to be present given how life can be, then it is important to get them help. Reaching out to a therapist and referring them and being present for them post-sessions can be an incredible support. If you know that someone is suicidal, or if they appear very distressed you mustn’t be the only one supporting them. Both you and they may need professional support through this hard time.
What kind of lifestyle changes can help one’s emotional health?
If only the systems around us can support our mental, physical, financial, and emotional well-being. While that may be a distant dream, the community can help us deeply. A community of people, things, and practices that help us connect with our deepest hopes for ourselves can incredibly help our emotional health.
How to take care of one’s mental well-being?
It is important to have practices that help us take care of our mental health. Having non-judgemental, safe, and caring spaces where we can be ourselves, explore our strengths and rejoice in our joys can help tremendously. Ensuring that we are taking breaks, and caring for our bodies can also be helpful. Having financial support and independence and ways to work through hard times with a community of support can also be nice to have in the journey of caring for one’s mental health.
A few myths about therapy and the road to recovery. You are broken if you need to go to therapy. Once you are done with the therapy you are ‘fixed.’
Therapy is for people who don’t know how to deal with themselves. One session will fix all my worries.
The therapist is an expert in helping me solve all my problems.
My anxiety and depression are bad, I should never have them and I have to get rid of them.
Please tell us a little bit about the kind of experience people can expect at ‘Pause for Perspective.’
