PRIYANKA

BABANI

A Makeup artist and hairstylist by profession. She is a fitness freak who loves socializing and a shopaholic.

Q. What is a typical day like in your life?

My day starts soon. I wake up early because I love the early morning zest. I have an hour of Pilates, then fixed family time over breakfast, which must include a cup of Americano and a bowl of fruits. As a Makeup Artist, I don’t Have any fixed working hours. We recently expanded our makeup studio and started all services at The Salon. I am available at the salon almost all day. Post-work, I usually enjoy meeting friends for coffee, sheesha, or shopping.

Q. How did you end up becoming a Makeup Artist?

I have a lil more of my mother’s genes in me. She is a workaholic and shopaholic. She and my sis, love to play dress-up forever. I started in the hospital industry like my mom but after 2 years my passion to dress up and dress others up drove me to this creative field. I had to first gather all my patience and energy and then step by step I mastered doing hair and face. It's not an easy task. We have to make sure everyone looks perfect on their special days. Even a single hair strand here and there will spoil the look. But seeing the clients pretty and happy makes me very content. So that feeling assures me that I was meant for this field.

Q. What makeup product line would you suggest?

Many luxurious brands offer top-quality makeup products that work wonders if used correctly. I swear by NARS. Known for their wide range and premium quality, iconic black-andwhite packaging, and cheeky product names like the Climax mascara and Orgasm blush, NARS is a staple of my vanity.

Q. Tell us about a funny incident that happened to you.

When I accidentally applied moisturizer on the face after finishing my entire makeup while getting ready for a party. Laughs!

Q. What do you do in your leisure time?

Between all my early morning and latenight client calls and salon run and gym routine whenever I get the time firstly, I stay home, cuddle my lil pet, doodle and catch up on sleep. Also, I have always been an enthusiast for new diets and the latest fashion trends. So very often you will catch me stalking various dieticians and designers on Instagram.

Rapid Fire

If you were left in a supermarket and asked to pick up only 3 things, what would you pick?

Coffee…coffee and different types of coffee.

If you had to be paired opposite a hero in a film, which actor would be, and what would be the movie's title?

I am not really a movie buff. Yet, I would make it all about me rather than the hero.

If you were allowed to commit one mischievous crime, what would you do?

I would steal the most luxurious brands of makeup products from all the stores.

Architecture Wonders of Hyderabad

Hyderabad, often referred to as the "City of Pearls," boasts a rich tapestry of architectural marvels that reflect its vibrant history and cultural diversity. The city's monumental buildings stand as timeless symbols of its glorious past, blending Persian, Mughal, and indigenous styles. Dominated by grand palaces, mosques, and forts, Hyderabad’s architecture reveals the influences of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, which established the city in the 16th century, followed by the grandeur of the Nizams. Iconic structures like the Charminar, Golconda Fort, and the Chowmahalla Palace are not just architectural wonders but also narratives etched in stone, representing the confluence of Indo-Islamic and European influences. The intricate carvings, majestic domes, and towering minarets of these structures make Hyderabad a living museum, celebrating centuries of architectural brilliance. Here are some of the famous architectural monuments which we have featured.

This is the most famous monument in the city; when one talks about Hyderabad, one talks about Charminar. As the name suggests, Charminar has four minarets about 48.5M high and is built out of granite, limestone, and mortar. It stands majestically tall amidst the colourful bangle shops in the labyrinth of Laad Bazaar of the old city and presents a stunning, dazzling sight after nightfall. This is a fine example of Qutb Shahi architecture, the old city of Hyderabad was designed with Charminar at its center. The structure of the Charminar is flawlessly square, with each side measuring 20m. The four imposing arches open into four different streets and are about 11m wide. Now regarded as one of the supreme architectural achievements of the Quṭb Shāhī period, the Charminar is a grand architectural composition in Indo-Saracenic style. It is built of granite and lime mortar with stucco ornamentation. The square structure measures 66 feet (20 meters) to a side. Each side faces one of the cardinal directions and has a pointed arch 36 feet (11 meters) wide at the base and reaches 66 feet high at its apex. A multisided column rises on each corner of the structure and, atop a lotus-leaf base, continues upward until it culminates in a minaret with a dome-shaped roof 160 feet (49 meters) above the ground. Each minaret is accessed via a spiral staircase on its interior wall and consists of four levels, each featuring a delicately colonnaded covered walkway around the exterior wall. Above the arches of the main structure are two stories.

An English architect, William Ward Marret, designed the palace. It is made entirely of Italian marble with stained-glass windows and covers an area of 93,970 square metres (1,011,500 sq ft). The palace was built in the shape of a scorpion with two stings spread out as wings in the north. The main building occupies the middle part, and the kitchen, Gol Bangla, Zenana Mehal, and harem quarters stretch to the south. The Nawab was an avid traveller, and this reflects in the architecture, which combines Italian and Tudor influences. The Palace has a library with a carved walnut roof, a replica of the one at Windsor Castle. The library had one of the finest collections of the Quran in India. The ground floor of the Palace housed the living quarters. A marble staircase leads to the upper floor. It has carved balustrades, which support marble figurines with candelabra at intervals.

The ground floor of the Palace housed the living quarters. A marble staircase leads to the upper floor. It has carved balustrades, which support marble figurines with candelabra at intervals.

Another splendid example of Qutb Shahi architecture is Golconda Fort. Golconda has four distinct forts with a 10 km long outer wall surrounding them along with 87 semicircular bastions, four drawbridges, and gateways with several royal apartments & halls, temples, mosques, stables, etc. inside. The lowest of these is the outermost space into which we enter by the “Fateh Darwaza”. At the Fateh Darwaza, one can experience a fantastic acoustic phenomenon, typical of the engineering marvels at that time. A hand clap or a snap of fingers at a certain point below the dome at the entrance echoes and can be heard clearly at the ‘Bala Hisar’ pavilion, the highest point almost a kilometer away. This was a warning note to the monarchs in case of an ambush. The intricate carvings at the halls and gates and nooks and crannies, the wondrous gates, the pointed arches and domes, and the Indo-Islamic architecture at Golconda are at their full glory. When you visit the fort, make sure you stick around for the light and sound show. Have fun exploring this beauty.

Located just outside Golconda are the tombs of the royalty of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. Most of the tombs have square raised bases and an arched corridor runs around them. They are mostly single or doublestorey with huge bulbous domes at the top. Beautiful Indo-Islamic architecture basking in the sun is a sight to behold. There is a Baoli. These tombs are present in a large group on a raised platform. They resemble Persian, Pathan and Hindu architectural styles that use grey granite, with stucco ornamentation and is a oneof-its-kind place in the world where the whole dynasty is buried at a single spot. or Stepwell inside the main complex as well. It is all frozen poetry in time, a must-visit.

Hyderabad has a beautiful blend of different cultures, religions, food, and people. And this lovely intermingling of differences can also be seen in its varied architecture. The Spanish Mosque is one of the places to visit in Hyderabad, a hidden treasure in the city. It is a single-story structure coated in green frost, a wondrous painting frozen in time. The building is believed to be constructed in 1906. There is a certain charm in this structure. It is also a wonderful example of Moorish architecture, derived from the Iberian Peninsula, based on the examples of hybrid architecture that mark historical Spain: Roman engineering, basilical halls, and features of ‘Islamic’ architecture like minarets and qibla walls. The slender proportions of the minarets highlight the most notable aspect: the octagonal spires. A crescent tops the central one. The mosque does not have a bulbous-shaped dome, which has become a symbol of an ‘Islamic’ construction. The striking features of the mosque and its unusual architecture make it a sight to see. It opens to all faiths on August 15th.

Built by Nizams, this place has beautiful architecture. The Khilwat Mubarak, the Grand Durbar is something one should look out for. Its grandeur and charm give it a spot on our list. It is one of the city's finest examples of European neo-classical architecture. The palace is said to have been initiated by Salabat Jang in 1750 and was completed during the reign of Afzal Asaf in 1869. The architecture of this palace is magnificent and resembles a blend of the Indian Persian, Rajasthani and European styles. The palace's northern and southern courtyards are decorated with lavish fountains. The south side of the palace has four places inside, known as Aftab Manzil, Afzal Manzil, Tahniyat Mahal, and Mahtab Mahal. The northern side of the palace has a Bara imam, which consists of an array of rooms stretching across a large corridor that once used to be the administrative wing of the Nizams. The heart of the palace is known as khilawat Mubarak, which used to be the seat of the rulers during the reign of the erstwhile Nizams. The Darbar hall of the Palace was equally fascinating, with huge pillars and a big marble platform where the Royal Seat, known as the takth – E – Nishan, is placed. The most intriguing part of the palace is its vast collection of books and manuscripts kept in the council hall.

The 'Birla Mandir' is one of Hyderabad's most prized temple structures ever to be built. Located in 'Kala Pahad', Hyderabad, this temple was established in 1976. The Birla Mandir dedicated to 'Lord Venkateshwara', is one of the many temples constructed by the Birla Foundation. This temple required 10 years for its construction and is now one of the most beautiful temples in Hyderabad. The presiding deity of the Birla Mandir is Lord Venkateshwara or 'Balaji' and is the only shrine made from granite in the city. Birla Mandir is constructed on the 'Kala Pahad Hill', which is at height of 280 feet. This gorgeous temple is wholly made from 2000 tons of white marbles, which were exclusively brought in from Rajasthan. The structural design of Birla Mandir was inspired from typical South Indian architecture and Rajasthani architecture. The four-tiered 'Rajagopura' that ornaments the temple top, adds to the enchanting beauty of the temple. Above the main idol of Lord Venkateshwara, one can see the 'Jagadananda Vimanam', which is a tower, built in 'Orissan' architectural style. Other idols in the temple also have towers constructed over the shrines, but these are designed according to South Indian styles of architecture. One can recognize the events of the great epics, 'Ramayana' and 'Mahabharatha', carved on the marble within the temple's interiors. The flagstaff of the temple is made from brass and is 42 feet high.

I recently decided to pamper myself with the Aquagold Fine Touch treatment, and it turned out to be one of the best skincare experiences I’ve ever had! I wanted my skin to look flawless, and after reading about the treatment’s luxurious benefits, I knew I had to try it out. Designed to tighten, brighten, plump, and tone the skin, Aquagold Fine Touch seemed like the perfect pre-event facial. When I arrived at the clinic, the team sat down with me for a consultation to understand my specific skin concerns. They took their time assessing my skin and preferences, which I really appreciated. They wanted to make sure the treatment was perfectly tailored to my needs, and that level of attention was already reassuring. What’s special about Aquagold Fine Touch is that it uses superfine, 24-carat gold microneedles—each one thinner than a human hair!—to deliver a cocktail of skin-boosting ingredients deep into the skin. The facial was further customized to suit my skin needs which has a lot of deep pigmentation, which the team took care of by providing extra procedures.

HydraFacial, which was an amazing way to cleanse my skin and get rid of all the dirt and impurities hiding in my pores. The extraction process was so gentle yet effective, and I could feel the difference immediately. My skin felt cleaner and refreshed, ready to absorb all the goodness that was about to follow.

Next, they performed a chemical glycolic peel—a light, refreshing peel that helped address some of the pigmentation issues I’ve been struggling with. It removed the dead skin cells sitting on the surface and gave me a noticeably brighter complexion. I’ve tried peels before, but this one was mild and soothing, leaving no redness or irritation. The whole process felt like a much-needed skin detox. Plus, they added a special cocktail of bioactive ingredients and a multivitamin blend, designed to penetrate deep into the skin, ensuring that everything worked its magic from within. They also used a little bit of Botox, and I have to say, I was skeptical at first, but it worked wonders on minimizing the appearance of my pores. My skin looked smoother and more refined, which is something I’ve always wanted, especially for those up-close photos. Plus, it gave my skin a soft, natural look—none of that frozen feeling you’d normally associate with Botox.

I walked out of the clinic feeling completely transformed. My skin was brighter, tighter, and more hydrated than ever. I had no downtime whatsoever, which made it even better since I could carry on with my day looking and feeling amazing. I honestly can’t recommend this treatment enough, especially if you’ve got a big event or just want to treat your skin to something special. If you’re someone who’s looking for that extra glow or needs a pre-event skincare boost, I highly recommend Aquagold Fine Touch. It’s the perfect balance of high-performance luxury with personalized care, and the results are immediate and long-lasting. Whether you’re dealing with pigmentation, large pores, or just want to refresh your skin, this treatment delivers. Trust me, your skin will thank you!

stood before a piece of art
wondered how it came to be? In this article, we interviewed various artists to uncover the secrets behind their creative processes. Get ready to be inspired!

What inspired me to get into resin art?

Resin art attracted me for its modern versatility and endless creative possibilities. My passion for exploring different artistic mediums naturally led me to resin, where I became captivated by both the artistic process and the manufacturing of the material itself.

With nearly seven years of experience, I’ve experimented with various styles and techniques, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms. This journey has allowed me to create functional pieces, like jewellery and home decor, alongside purely aesthetic artworks.

My enthusiasm for resin art also inspired me to develop a comprehensive professional course for aspiring artists. Sharing my knowledge and guiding others has been incredibly fulfilling, fuelling my desire to innovate within the medium. Ultimately, resin art has become a core part of my artistic identity, enabling me to express my vision dynamically. I'm eager to continue evolving in this medium and discover where my creativity will lead me next

Marzia Ali leads an art label under her name and a floral preservation brand called Memoire. In 2018, she launched a subscription service to build a vibrant community of art lovers, though it had to be discontinued during the pandemic. Today, her art label is active in working with a range of mediums, including resin, alcohol inks, and jesmonite. The label also offers experiential art workshops tailored for marketing and corporate clients, while providing mentorship and professional guidance to artists specializing in resin art. Her brand Memoire is dedicated to floral preservation. She carefully preserves wedding flowers and blooms from special occasions, transforming them into timeless keepsakes that capture the beauty of those moments.

Q. Can you describe your typical process for creating a resin piece, from start to finish?

Creating a resin artwork is both meticulous and creative. Every project begins with an idea, often inspired by nature or personal experiences. I make mood boards or sketches to outline the theme and colour palette. Next, I choose the right materials for my Memoire projects, such as epoxy resin, pigments, and embedded objects like dried flowers. I work in a clean, well-ventilated space, using protective gear. I carefully measure and mix the resin with hardener, ensuring it's free of bubbles. After adding pigments and textures, I pour the resin into a mold or on a canvas, using heat and tools to shape it. Once poured, the resin cures for several hours or days, depending on its thickness. I kept the space dust-free and optimal for curing. Afterward, I demoed, sanded, and polished the piece to achieve a smooth, durable finish.

Q. Resin can be used for functional pieces like coasters or large abstract art. What type of projects do you enjoy most and why?

I particularly enjoy working on floral preservation because each project undergoes its own unique transformation. Additionally, I am deeply passionate about creating geode art.

Q. What do you hope to explore next in your art journey?

That's a thoughtful question. At this stage in my artistic journey, I'm deeply focused on integrating resin with other mediums to expand the versatility and depth of my work. One of my most exciting projects is the upcoming "Paint Your Thoughts" collection, set to be released in 2025. This series explores mental health, a theme that resonates personally and universally. "Paint Your Thoughts" is about embracing emotions' fluidity and the creative process. The concept revolves around painting without commitments or interruptions, allowing myself to go with the flow and fully experience each emotion as it arises. By channelling these feelings directly into my artwork, I aim to create pieces that are not only visually captivating but also emotionally authentic.

Q. How has working with resin changed you as an artist? What have you learned from it?

Working with resin has profoundly shaped my artistic journey, particularly by cultivating patience and refining my creative process. While I often desire immediate results, resin has its own timeline, demanding careful attention to its curing process and unique effects. Mastering this medium requires substantial time and dedication, making it one of the toughest materials I've worked with due to its complexity and precision. Each project offers new learning opportunities, whether it’s preventing bubbles, achieving translucency, or experimenting with colorants. This ongoing process has enhanced my technical skills and deepened my appreciation for resin art. Ultimately, working with resin has instilled a greater sense of perseverance in me, pushing me to refine my techniques and embrace challenges, which has made me a more resilient and skilled artist.

How did you feel doing your first live wedding painting?

I was extremely nervous. Initially, I had no idea how to manage a full painting within a few hours. Usually, you don’t have a time restriction when you work at home, but when painting it live, you must race with the time. The audience was also very curious and asked many questions, and I was a little nervous and distracted. But the client was super understanding and let me finish the touch-ups after the wedding. But in the end, it gave me much confidence.

What were the audience's reactions while watching your live wedding painting?

Only the people who are on Instagram know about the trend of live wedding painting, but most of the crowd is new to the concept. They usually have many questions regarding my work, like whether I am their friend or if I am hired. They also get really curious and keep checking on my artwork every few minutes. A lot of kids come up and ask if they can participate/help in the painting, and sometimes, I let them paint bushes or flowers.

Keerthana Adepu a BFA graduate from JNAFAU, has navigated a challenging path in the arts, a field not often seen as a "proper" career. With limited placement opportunities, her journey was far from smooth. She initially launched an art account in 2020 but only began posting consistently in 2023. Today, Instagram serves as her primary source of income. Keerthana started by creating adduteras and eventually transitioned into live wedding painting after being inspired by a viral Instagram video of a live wedding painter, motivating her to introduce this service in Hyderabad.

Do you have any specific message you want to share with the audience?

I want to convey one important message: pursuing a career in the fine arts, such as dancing or painting, might seem risky. But I believe that a happy and fulfilling life is worth the risk.

Does it bother you when people come up and ask you a lot of questions?

In the beginning, it did get me a little nervous but now I consider it a part of my job. Now, I get excited to answer all their questions and interact with people. This way, I can show people that art can also be a career option and make fine art a mainstream career option in India.

What’s the process of doing a live wedding painting?

I received the wedding details beforehand. I arrive at the venue 2-3 hours before the auspicious time (muhurtam) and start painting the mandap and backdrop. This allows me to complete the painting by the end of the wedding. A painting typically takes me 5-6 hours to finish. For the couple's picture, they can either provide one from their pre-wedding shoot, or I can take a photo during the wedding to reference. It's based on the client's preference.

What type of paper is best for origami, and how did your journey in creating origami begin?

Origami requires a special type of paper; the thinner the paper, the better the result. I was the first person in Hyderabad to create an origami crane. When I began, I would make 50 to 100 pieces, but over time, I’ve crafted over 25,000 pieces, which took us 45 days to complete. I can now fold a crane in just 10 seconds, while it typically takes about a minute for most people to make one.

How do you handle and transition origami art without damaging or breaking it?

We take extra precautions to protect the art by using plenty of bubble wrap and filling any empty spaces with crumpled paper to ensure there’s no room for damage. So far, we haven’t had any complaints about pieces being damaged. Recently, we’ve started sealing the origami inside 3D boxes for home I, as this helps prevent the paper from absorbing moisture and getting damaged over time.

From a young age, Mahima Kankariya loved folding paper and creating art. In middle school, she started teaching paper art to nursery school children. She began her professional journey at a wedding planning company, where she created origami art for weddings. Her boss, Rashmi, encouraged her to start her own Instagram page. She founded her own company two years ago and has been successfully operating it since then.

Any Long-term goals with regard to your company?

I want to collaborate with a couple of cafes and create some décor for them. A few years ago, we collaborated with Roastery Coffee House for their Christmas decorations. We want to collaborate with other cafes and put up my products in the café.

Have you ever faced challenges while trying a new origami piece?

Yes, when I’m working on a new product, I often learn by looking up ideas on Pinterest. Complex designs can be challenging and stressful, and I waste a lot of paper in the process. However, it’s important to stay patient and keep pushing forward.

Have you put up any exhibitions for your origami art? I put up an exhibition in a café a while ago just to showcase my art. It was not for sale. Selling origami is not something that can be done as it is unique and up to personal preferences.

Do you have a specific theme or style in your artwork?

I enjoy painting figurines, particularly Buddha figures. My unique style involves blending these figurines with different types of flowers to create something truly special.

How long does it typically take to finish a painting?

The smallest canvas size I work with is 8 inches. Completing an 8-inch piece typically takes about 4 to 5 hours. For larger paintings, such as those measuring 3 to 4 feet, I usually need around 30 to 45 days to finish them.

Since childhood, Bhavani had a passion for drawing and painting. While pursuing her degree, her friends encouraged her to start an Instagram account to showcase her acrylic paintings. Eager to expand her skills, she explored different art courses and found herself particularly drawn to sculpture art, which led her to enroll in a course. As she began sharing her sculpture work on Instagram, people started reaching out, asking her to teach classes on sculpture painting. This helped her grow her following and paved the way for her to establish herself as a 3D artist.

What are the best methods for preserving sculpture paintings to ensure longevity?

Sculpture paintings are generally durable but fragile and may break if handled carelessly. To protect them, I apply two layers of varnish, which allows easy cleaning even if they accumulate dust. Depending on the client’s preferences, the pieces can also be framed.

Where can people reach you to participate in your workshops?

I hold workshops quite regularly, and people can reach me on Instagram or through my website, bhavaniartgallery.com.

What’s the most challenging part in painting a sculpture painting?

Clients can sometimes be somewhat stubborn about their desired designs, making persuading them to consider changes challenging. For instance, when they present an idea, I create a rough sketch of their concept, but I also provide 2 to 3 alternative designs with slight modifications that could enhance the overall look. This way, they have the option to choose whichever design they prefer.

Sri Priyatham is a professional illustrator who collaborates with production houses, primarily within the entertainment, cultural, and art sectors. His work spans various aspects of production and postproduction campaigns and the costume production design department. He specializes in visual storytelling illustrations, bringing narratives to life through his art.

How do you capture a person’s personality in a caricature? It’s one of the most beautiful things I’ve encountered in any art form. You break all the rules and still make the art look like the person. It takes a lot of practice and immense observation. It takes some time to accelerate the drawing of caricatures.

What inspires you to start Illustrations? How did you get started?

I’ve always drawn. I never had any other option in mind. Nothing specifically inspired me, but I’ve always aspired to do this. As per professionally starting, I enrolled myself in a BFA program. Eventually, I started uploading a lot of my artwork on Facebook. Some people reached out for some caricatures of themselves, and that’s how I got started.

Do you have a favourite part in drawing caricatures?

Not necessarily, but I enjoy working on the entire process. I love exploring different face structures, shapes, and features. There is an unending supply of facial features in the world, and every expression and facial feature is fun to draw.

How do you exaggerate facial features while maintaining accuracy when creating caricatures?

Exaggerating just means accentuating some features. It’s not just the dominant features that are exaggerated. Sometimes, the smaller features can also be exaggerated. And it has a lot to do with experimentation. It’s a matter of how far you can take a facial feature. Sometimes, it can get a little offensive, but you must practice and experiment extensively on these drawings.

Did someone get offended at a caricature? How did you handle it?

There’s a fine line between making it offensive and making the subject laugh at themselves. Of course, it takes a little less amount of seriousness from the subject. When someone does get offended, you try to get along with it. When it comes to its commerciality, you agree with what the client wants.

Any advice you want to give to upcoming illustrators or caricature artists?

Practice traditional art as much as possible. No medium is going to be different from another. Fundamental practice is very important.

How did you get started in Mural Art and what inspired you?

I’ve always had a deep passion for art, but never received the support I needed from my family. Art was never seen as a viable career option, and I wasn’t encouraged to pursue it. Instead of being discouraged by their negativity, I used it as motivation to work harder and prove myself. While working other daily wage jobs, I told everyone I met that I was an artist, offering my services if they ever needed an art piece. After a year of waiting for a client, a friend saw one of my paintings and asked me to create a wall mural for him. Though I was new to mural art, I found the courage to take on the challenge and completed the mural. Sharing that work on my page and WhatsApp brought me more clients, and my journey has continued to grow from there.

Uday Arts is a talented wall mural artist who first discovered his passion for art while painting on canvas during his college years. His shift to mural work began when a friend allowed him to create a custom wall mural, which marked the start of his mural journey. As more people noticed his work, requests for murals began to pour in, motivating him to create an Instagram page to showcase his expanding portfolio. This platform allowed him to share his vibrant wall murals with a larger audience, helping him establish his reputation as a mural artist.

Can you tell us the process of a wall mural art?

Creating a mural is certainly more complex than other forms of art. The process begins when we receive a call from the client, where we gather basic details about the type of painting they’re looking for and the size they want. After that, we visited the site to measure the wall and assess the interior space, which helped us decide on the painting style and colour palette. Once we have this information, we provide the client with a digital mock-up of the mural. We make adjustments based on their feedback before moving forward. Then, we start with a rough sketch on the wall and gradually begin the actual artwork, finalizing the colour scheme as we complete the mural.

How long does it typically take you to finish a wall mural?

The time it takes really depends on the size of the wall and how large the client wants the mural to be. I can usually finish it within a day or so if it’s just a small wall section. However, a full-sized wall typically takes me around 30 to 45 days to complete.

Are there any techniques to maintain the durability of a wall mural?

Clients don’t really need to worry about maintenance. The paints I use are of high quality and can last up to 12 years on indoor walls. While outdoor murals may not last as long due to exposure to sunlight, wind, rain, and other elements, I can still offer a guarantee of around 8 years for durability.

Stuti Shah is a calligraphy and engraving artist with six years of experience. She also practices psychology. Her journey into these arts began unexpectedly when she experimented with a brush and discovered her passion. Unable to choose between psychology and calligraphy, Stuti has found a balance by counselling during the day and dedicating her evenings to calligraphy and engraving work.

How do you find a balance between practicing psychology and doing calligraphy?

I don’t think there’s a straightforward answer to that, but when you enjoy both things, you find the motivation to make time for each. I focus on counselling until around 3 or 4 pm, and then I focus on checking orders on my website and working on my art. Weekends give me more time to dedicate to my artwork, and I also manage to film and edit videos for my Instagram during that time.

Have you ever experimented with unconventional materials for engraving, like stone or leather, and what did you discover through that process?

I have worked on calligraphy and engraving on nearly every type of product. I've engraved items like glasses and watches, and done calligraphy on leather diaries and seashells. I even found some pristine seashells in Bali, which I brought back to engrave as keepsakes. I believe that engraving on these items creates lasting memories for everyone, and it brings me great joy to engrave on anything I'm given.

What do you hope the readers take away from your art?

Absolutely! First, I want to convey that anyone can try their hand at calligraphy, regardless of whether they have beautiful handwriting. The process can be incredibly therapeutic, allowing you to take your mind off various distractions. You really need to experience the ink flowing and the pen gliding across the paper to understand the joy that calligraphy can bring. You don’t need expensive supplies either; practicing with a regular pen is perfectly fine. Second, if you want a personalized gift, please contact us. We take great care in making each product special for everyone.

What was the most memorable or meaningful piece you’ve ever created and what made it stand out for you?

One of the first pieces I was commissioned to create was a letter from a mother to her future child while she was pregnant. It was done on handmade paper with gold lettering, and we had it framed to be displayed in the daughter's bedroom. Another memorable project involved a groom who wrote handmade letters for his fiancée's entire family. We transformed these letters into scrolls and placed them in special boxes with each family member's name engraved on them. I’ve also worked in different languages, such as Kannada, Tamil, and Urdu. Even though I’m not fluent in these languages, I could really feel the warmth and love while creating the calligraphy.

Where do you see the future of calligraphy and engraving heading in the digital age?

Calligraphy and engraving require a great deal of precision, time, skill, and practice to master. While digital methods are available, I believe that creating these works by hand—watching each letter being engraved and experiencing the smell of the ink—adds a unique and personal touch to the art form. Certainly, if someone is looking for a quick result, they can opt for digital printing, but handwritten pieces feel more authentic and carry a special significance.

The spices were well-balanced, enhancing the natural flavors without overpowering them. The dish was cooked to perfection, with the liver retaining its tenderness and the spices infusing every morsel with their aromatic essence.

They had managed to create a vegetarian dish that not only satisfied my craving for non-vegetarian fare but also left me craving for more. The dish was a testament to the versatility of South Indian cuisine and the ability of talented chefs to create dishes that transcend dietary restrictions.

The Velulli Karam Paneer Roast was a delightful dish that truly set the tone for the evening. This fusion of spices and paneer was nothing short of spectacular. The prominent garlic flavor was perfectly balanced, ensuring it enhanced rather than overwhelmed the dish. Each piece of paneer was cooked to perfection, tender and bursting with flavor, making it a satisfying choice that paired wonderfully with rice or naan.

The combination of spices created a rich tapestry of taste that was both comforting and exciting. The Kobbari Pala Poori was a delightful treat that provided a sweet end to our meal. Encased in a perfectly fried poori, the rich coconut filling was undeniably delicious, offering a satisfying contrast to the savory dishes we had enjoyed earlier. However, I couldn’t help but think that this dessert could have been even better if served cold, allowing the flavors to truly shine.

However, this version of apricot delight was a bit different from the traditional Muslim style I was familiar with.

While it was delightful, I felt that it could have been even more memorable with a slightly different presentation. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and it left me feeling content, but I found myself wishing for a bit more complexity to truly elevate the dish.

Overall, the Apricot Delight was a lovely treat that showcased the restaurant's creativity and dedication to crafting unique desserts. It left me with a sense of satisfaction and a desire to return for more of ITLU's culinary offerings,

Dal-e-Aish:

This lentil dish was rich and creamy, with a perfect blend of spices. It was comforting and paired beautifully with the naan and rice, adding a different texture to the meal.

Steamed Long Grain Basmati Rice:

The rice was fluffy and perfectly cooked, serving as a great base for the rich curries. Each grain was separate, and the aroma of the basmati enhanced the overall dining experience.

Makhani Naan:

This buttery naan was soft and pillowy, with a slightly crispy exterior. It was perfect for scooping up the curries and dal, and the rich flavor of the naan complemented the dishes beautifully.

Lasooni Naan:

The garlic naan was fragrant and packed with flavor. The garlic was well-balanced, not overpowering, and it paired wonderfully with the rich gravies on the thali.

Atte Ki Roti:

The whole wheat roti was a wholesome addition to the thali. It was soft and slightly chewy, providing a nice contrast to the other accompaniments.

Zarda:

To conclude the meal, the thali included a serving of this delightful saffron-flavored sweet dish. It was a fitting end to the culinary journey, with its soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture and subtle sweetness.

The Heera-e-Aish thali at Aish was a culinary delight that beautifully showcased the richness of Hyderabadi cuisine. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, with attention to detail evident in both presentation and flavor. The service was impeccable, with the staff being attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance of Aish, with its elegant decor and warm lighting, further enhanced the dining experience, making it a perfect setting for a special occasion or a memorable meal. The warm welcome by Shokla Mirchandani and her team, along with the introduction by Chef Sailen Chakraborty and the soulful ghazals by Sultan Mirza, added to the overall regal experience.

In conclusion, the Heera-e-Aish thali is a must-try for anyone seeking an authentic and luxurious Hyderabadi dining experience. The combination of traditional dishes with modern presentation makes it a standout choice at Aish. I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and eager to return for another culinary adventure. A TOUCH OF INDIA: MODERN LIVING WITH TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS

Ever felt like your home was missing something? Perhaps it's a dose of Indian charm! By incorporating elements of Indian traditional decor, homeowners can add a touch of warmth, character, and personality to their living spaces. From intricate carvings and vibrant textiles to handcrafted furniture and stunning artwork, there are countless ways to incorporate Indian elements into modern design. Join me as we discover how to incorporate traditional Indian decor into your contemporary living space.

Wooden Traditional Doors and windows

To bring a traditional touch to modern architecture, a great starting point is incorporating Indian-style wooden door and window frames. These intricately designed doors, often crafted from rich woods like teak or rosewood, exude a sense of royalty and cultural heritage, elevating the overall aesthetic of a contemporary living space. The design bridges the gap between modern functionality and cultural depth by integrating traditional craftsmanship into these elements. Additionally, traditional window frames, often inspired by antique architectural styles, evoke the charm of old-world homes, giving the space a sense of history and timeless appeal.

A traditional Jhoola

Another great way to infuse an Indian touch into your living space is by incorporating a traditional-style Jhoola (swing). This timeless piece enhances the richness of your interior design and adds a playful, nostalgic element. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it offers a cozy and unique seating option, perfect for relaxing or spending quality time with family and friends. A Jhoola seamlessly blends comfort and cultural elegance, bringing warmth and personality to your modern home.

Low height seating

Incorporating low seating sofas is another excellent way to bring a touch of Indian charm into your living space. Drawing inspiration from traditional Indian seating arrangements like diwans and floor cushions, these low-profile sofas create a cozy, grounded atmosphere that feels both welcoming and stylish. Available in rich fabrics, vibrant colours, and ornate patterns, low seating sofas can easily become a focal point while complementing the overall decor.

Indian prints rugs and cushions

To complement the low seating sofas, you can further enhance the Indian aesthetic by incorporating Indian-design rugs and cushions. To take it a step further, adding Kantha stitch quilts draped over the sofa can significantly amplify the traditional Indian vibe. These elements create a harmonious blend of comfort and heritage, enriching your home’s interior with a strong connection to Indian craftsmanship and culture.

Jaali design

Incorporating a traditional Jaali design frame at key intersections within your home can add a touch of heritage and elegance. These intricately carved lattice patterns enhance the visual appeal and serve as beautiful dividers or accent pieces, creating a seamless blend of traditional craftsmanship with modern architecture.

Antique chest as a coffee table

Incorporating an antique traditional chest as a tea table or decorative piece can beautifully enhance the Indian theme of your home. These vintage chests, often adorned with intricate carvings, metal accents, and rich wood textures, bring a sense of history and timeless elegance to your space. Repurposing such a chest as a tea table adds functional charm and serves as a conversation starter, blending utility with cultural flair.

Indian paintings

Hanging Indian artwork, such as Madhubani, Warli, Dhokra, or Santhal paintings, is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to infuse a modern space with Indian culture and aesthetics. Whether arranged as a gallery wall or as standalone pieces, they add a layer of cultural depth and artistic flair, making your home feel more connected to India’s diverse artistic legacy.

Jute blinds

Another way to bring an Indian touch to your home is by opting for jute blinds instead of modern curtains. Jute, a natural and eco-friendly material, introduces a rustic, earthy vibe that reflects traditional Indian craftsmanship. The natural fibres of jute create a raw, organic aesthetic that complements both modern and traditional decor, making them a versatile choice. Plus, these blinds are easy to maintain and durable, blending beauty with practicality for an authentic, eco-conscious Indian-inspired interior.

COSTUME IDEAS

Halloween costumes are the ultimate way to express creativity and step into a different character for a night of fun. Some people go for classic looks like witches, ghosts, or vampires, while others get inventive with trendy or DIY costumes that make a statement. It's not just about dressing up; it's about transforming into something completely new. Halloween costumes allow you to explore your imagination, bring characters to life, and add to the festive atmosphere. Whether simple or elaborate, the right costume can make Halloween unforgettable! Here are a few unique ideas for you to try out this Halloween.

FAIRY

A fairy Halloween costume offers a whimsical, enchanting look with endless possibilities for creativity! Start with a flowing, ethereal dress in soft pastel shades like lavender, blush, or mint, or go for a darker vibe with deep purples and blacks for a gothic fairy. Add a pair of delicate, translucent wings decorated with glitter, rhinestones, or even tiny flowers. For makeup, focus on shimmery eyeshadow, highlighter, and bold lashes to create a magical, glowing effect. Accessorize with a flower crown, vines, or twinkling lights wrapped around your body. Complete the look with soft, wavy hair or an intricate braided hairstyle to truly embody the mystical fairy aesthetic.

REAL LIFE PAINTING

To pull off the look, start by selecting a famous artwork or create your own design to "wear." Craft a large frame (lightweight wood or cardboard) to surround your body like a real painting. Dress in clothing that matches the theme of the painting you’re portraying—whether it's a whimsical landscape or a famous portrait like the "Mona Lisa." Use makeup to transform your face into the art style, with brushstroke patterns or bold, exaggerated colors to mimic the artist's techniques. For added flair, carry a paintbrush or palette, making it clear you’re a walking masterpiece!

ZOMBIE BRIDE

Transform into a hauntingly beautiful Zombie Bride this Halloween for a spooky yet elegant look. Start with a tattered, old wedding dress—think lace and vintage details, but make it look distressed and worn. Add dark, smeared makeup with pale skin tones, sunken eyes, and fake blood for a freshly risenfrom-the-dead effect. Don’t forget to create that eerie, decaying look by adding cracks and dark contouring to your face. Complete the look with messy hair or a torn veil, and accessorize with flowers that have lost their bloom. This combination of beauty and horror will make you the ultimate undead bride, perfect for a creepy yet captivating Halloween costume!

GHOST

The classic Ghost Halloween Costume is timeless, easy to pull off, and can still make a bold statement with minimal effort. All you need is a simple white sheet with eye holes cut out, but don’t stop there! You can customize it with creative touches like adding tattered edges, accessorizing with chains or spooky props, or even playing with glowing effects for a modern twist. It’s easy to slip on and perfect for anyone looking for a last-minute costume that still gives off that eerie, haunted vibe. Whether you go for a traditional ghost look or add unique details, this costume remains a spooky and stylish choice that’s hard to overlook!

MEME COSTUMES

Meme Halloween costumes are a fun and creative way to bring internet culture to life, making them a hit at any party. They're instantly recognizable, providing plenty of laughs and conversations, while also being easy to put together. Whether you go as the Distracted Boyfriend with a friend, the famous Woman Yelling at a Cat, or the relaxed Bernie Sanders in Mittens, meme costumes let you capture the humor of viral moments in a unique, playful way. The best part is that many meme costumes can be made with simple props or clothing, making them both budget-friendly and impactful. If you want to make a statement this Halloween while staying on-trend, dressing up as your favorite meme is the perfect way to do it!

Choose a vibrant pink eyeshadow and blend it with shimmer. Finish with glossy, bubblegum pink lips. For an extra touch, add rhinestones or glitter for that overthe-top Barbie sparkle!

POP ART MAKEUP

Pop art makeup is a bold and eye-catching style that transforms your face into a living comic book character. Inspired by the vibrant colors and dramatic lines of the pop art movement, this look features thick black outlines around facial features, bright primary colors, and BenDay dots to mimic printing techniques. Start by outlining your jawline, nose, and eyes with black eyeliner or face paint, and use white or red dots across your face to recreate the comic book effect. Bold eyeshadow and a dramatic, overdrawn lip complete the look, giving you that striking, 2D illusion that’s both playful and nostalgic.

· 225g jar cocktail cherries

· 15 raisins

· 1 litre carton blueberry, blackberry or purple grape juice, chilled

· 1 litre carton cherry or cranberry juice, chilled

· 1litre sparkling water, chilled

STEP 1

Rinse the disposable gloves and fill each with water. Tie a knot in the top of each as you would a balloon, or use a tight bag clip to hold the opening closed. Freeze overnight.

STEP 2

Drain the lychees and cocktail cherries, reserving the juices in a jug. Push a raisin into one end of each cherry, then push the cherries into the lychees to make ‘eyeballs’.

STEP 3

Tip all of the juices, plus the reserved lychee and cherry juices, into a large bowl with the ‘eyeballs’. Carefully peel the gloves from the ice hands, add to the punch, then top up with the sparkling water.

STEP 1

EDIBLE FAKE BLOOD

Ingredients

· 1 tbsp cornflour

· 45ml cherry juice or water

· 250g glucose syrup

STEP 2

Squeeze in a generous amount of the red food colouring gel and stir well, then add a very small drop each of the blue and yellow food colouring gels and stir again. You are aiming for a deep red-brown blood colour. Continue adding little drops of food colouring, stirring well between each addition, until you reach your desired colour. The edible fake blood will keep in a sealed jar in the fridge for up to three weeks. This recipe makes a thick, slowrunning gel. If you want a thinner gel, simply stir in a little more cherry juice or water.

Azerbaijan: The Hidden Gem of the CaucasusveL

Azerbaijan, an enchanting blend of East and West, is emerging as a hot spot for travellers seeking unique experiences. Located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, this country’s rich cultural tapestry, stunning landscapes, and dynamic capital city, Baku, are just some of the reasons why Azerbaijan has become a must-visit destination. From ancient fire temples to ultramodern architecture, this diverse land offers something for every traveller. Here’s why Azerbaijan is climbing up the ranks of travel destinations and what you can expect from a journey to this remarkable country.

Baku: The Heart of Azerbaijan

At the center of Azerbaijan's tourism boom is Baku, the nation's capital. Known for its striking juxtaposition of old and new, Baku is a city where ancient history meets modern luxury. The Old City (Icherisheher), a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers a glimpse into Azerbaijan’s medieval past with its narrow streets, stone buildings, and historical landmarks like the iconic Maiden Tower and the Shirvanshah’s Palace. Visitors can lose themselves in the maze-like alleys, surrounded by centuries-old architecture that feels worlds apart from the contemporary skyline just beyond.

On the other hand, modern Baku dazzles with its futuristic buildings and high-end shopping. The Flame Towers, three skyscrapers shaped like flames, dominate the skyline, symbolizing Azerbaijan's ancient connection to fire. Another architectural marvel is the Heydar Aliyev Center, designed by Zaha Hadid, whose fluid, wave-like design is a testament to Baku’s forward-thinking spirit.

For travelers looking to enjoy the city’s cosmopolitan side, Baku Boulevard, a long promenade along the Caspian Sea, offers chic restaurants, parks, and entertainment venues, making it an ideal spot to relax after a day of sightseeing.

Beyond Baku: A Journey Through History and Nature

While Baku is the main draw, venturing beyond the capital is equally rewarding. Just outside the city, Gobustan National Park is home to thousands of ancient rock carvings and petroglyphs dating back to 40,000 years. The park’s otherworldly landscape of mud volcanoes and desert plains provides an adventurous escape from city life. Azerbaijan’s connection to fire can be seen at sites like Ateshgah, the Fire Temple, and Yanar Dag (Burning Mountain), where flames burst from the ground due to underground natural gas reserves. These sites are remnants of ancient fire-worshipping religions and make for an intriguing cultural experience.

In the north, the town of Sheki offers a taste of Azerbaijan’s rich history as a Silk Road trading post. The beautifully restored Sheki Khan's Palace is a highlight, with its intricate stained-glass windows and colorful frescoes. Visitors can explore local markets, shop for handicrafts, and take in the town’s quaint, traditional atmosphere

.For nature lovers, Azerbaijan is home to diverse landscapes ranging from lush forests and waterfalls in Gabala to the dramatic snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. Hiking, skiing, and outdoor adventures await in regions like Shahdag, which is fast becoming a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

Culinary Delights: A Taste of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan’s cuisine reflects its cultural diversity, blending influences from Persian, Turkish, and Russian kitchens. The food is hearty, flavorful, and rooted in tradition. One of the country's most famous dishes is plov, a saffron-infused rice dish mixed with meat, nuts, and dried fruits. Dolma, grape leaves stuffed with rice and lamb, is another staple, showcasing the local love for bold, aromatic flavours. Kebabs, locally known as shashlik, are popular throughout the country, often served with fresh salads and flatbreads. A more unique dish is dushbara, which is a small dumpling filled with lamb and served in a rich broth. The street food scene in Baku also offers quick bites like kutabs, savory pancakes stuffed with meat, greens, or cheese. Sweet treats include baklava, layered with honey and nuts, and shekerbura, a pastry filled with ground nuts and sugar. Tea is an integral part of Azerbaijani hospitality, often served with sweets and jams, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the slower pace of life

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Azerbaijan is during spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is mild and perfect for exploring. The cities and countryside are vibrant during these seasons, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Summer can be hot, particularly in Baku, but the coastal areas and mountains provide cooler retreats. Winter, meanwhile, is perfect for those looking to enjoy Azerbaijan’s growing ski resorts, with regions like Shahdag offering winter sports enthusiasts plenty to explore. Conclusion: A Blend of Past and Future Azerbaijan is a country where ancient history and modern innovation coexist harmoniously. Its cities are a fascinating mix of old-world charm and cutting-edge design, while its natural landscapes offer tranquility and adventure. From the bustling streets of Baku to the remote villages of the Caucasus, Azerbaijan’s cultural richness and diversity make it an alluring destination for any traveler looking for something truly unique. Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or an outdoor adventurer, Azerbaijan promises to leave you inspired and eager to return.
