RABIA
JAFFER
Rabia Jaffer is a storyteller and history buff rolled into one. She loves uncovering the stories that shaped today, be it from the golden era of Indian football or any significant event that ignites passion and motivation. Whether it’s a glimpse into the past or a contemporary tale, she is all about bringing those narratives to life and making them resonate with the audience at large.
Q. What keeps you going?
Honestly, the thrill of the chase! Every new discovery feels like unearthing buried treasure. When I find that missing puzzle piece of history, especially in the story of a legend like Syed Abdul Rahim, it’s a rush. Knowing my work might inspire someone out there. That’s the cherry on top.
Q. What’s been your career highlight so far? 10 years ago, I was working on a social development program in Delhi for at-risk children, seeing the outcome of it years later makes me really proud of that initiative and definitely my work on the film "Maidaan." Being part of the team that brought Syed Abdul Rahim’s story to the big screen was surreal. Seeing my research play out on the silver screen and knowing it’s reaching so many people? That’s a dream come true!
Q. What’s a lesser-known fact about your favourite historical figure?
About Syed Abdul Rahim, I believe it’s his diverse background as a school teacher, a physical education graduate, a master's degree holder in psychology and a poet by choice. This unique blend of disciplines profoundly influenced his coaching style, as he emphasized both discipline and learning on and off the field. Remarkably, he is the only person in Indian history to have coached at every level, from school team, college, university, state, multiple clubs and the National team. His educational career and poetic touch fostered both the athletic and personal growth of his players, making a lasting impact on Indian football.
Q. What philosophical question or dilemma has always intrigued you, and how would you approach solving it?
The philosophical question that intrigues me the most is the nature of consciousness: "What is consciousness, and how does it arise from the brain?" It fascinates me because it bridges science and philosophy, touching on what it means to be human. Solving it could unlock profound insights into our minds and reshape our understanding of self-awareness and artificial intelligence.
Q. What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting out in historical research?
Stay curious and persistent. The most fascinating stories are often hidden in the smallest details, so don’t be afraid to dig deep and explore every angle. Also, building a network with other researchers can open up new perspectives and resources.
Q. How has your work shaped your personality?
My work has made me relentless and a staunch advocate for the underdogs. Exploring these stories has deepened my empathy and given me a knack for spotting the hidden gems in life's intricate puzzles. Plus, it’s taught me the beauty of preservation and the power of a good story.
Q. Who are the top 3 people whose life work you’d like to research and showcase to the world?
·I’d love to dive into the life of Dr. Verghese Kurien, the man behind India’s dairy revolution.
·A retake on Asoka - The Conqueror
·A biography of Mr L N Sharma (my father-in-law)
Rapid Fire
1.What’s the quirkiest item you’ve found while digging through archives?
I once stumbled upon a 1930s football rulebook with handwritten notes from Rahim Sahab. It was fascinating to be able to read his thoughts on paper.
2. If you could have a coffee with anyone, who would it be and why?
I’d love to have coffee with Indra Nooyi. Sipping on her signature ‘no sugar, all ambition’ brew. Plus, she could share some tips on turning boardroom debates into instant comedy shows—who wouldn’t want to learn from the master of balancing spreadsheets and a wicked sense of humour? Her insights on leadership and life would be the perfect side to that coffee.
3. Which movie or book could you rewatch or reread endlessly?
I could rewatch “Lagaan” endlessly. It perfectly blends history, drama and sports, and it’s always inspiring to see the underdogs rise.
4. What’s your favorite way to unwind after a day of historical sleuthing?
Pani Puri.
5. What’s one surprising skill you’ve picked up during your research adventures?
2 things actually,
a)I’ve become quite adept at deciphering old handwriting styles. It’s like solving a puzzle, and it adds an exciting twist to my research

AYESHA SULTANA
Born and raised in Hyderabad, Ayesha Sultana completed her International Masters in Sales and Marketing from a well-known B-School. During the 2020 lockdown, she was inspired to share her love for food on Instagram and started her page @whatchucraving. Initially, she focused on quick and easy recipes suited for quarantine life, but as things opened up, she expanded her content to include reviews of cafes and restaurants. The journey has been long and filled with both challenges and rewards, but Vasanthi is extremely grateful for the experience. Her audience's immense love and support have been instrumental in sustaining her passion and drive to keep creating content that resonates with her followers.
⦁ What sparked your interest and passion for food blogging?
Simply my love for food. I have been a big-time foodie ever since I was a kid. While doing my graduation, I always loved to explore new cafes and eat new cuisines even though I used to be extremely broke haha. Somehow, I felt the need to add value by sharing my experiences with people and that's how my interest was fuelled.
⦁ Can you share the story behind your first food review and how it shaped your approach to content creation?
My first food review was basically an invite by a fellow blogger. That was the first time ever that I actually interacted with like-minded people from the industry. There on I got a hang of how the whole feedback sessions work. Always grateful for the first PR, the first invite, the first award and so on. The first experience is something which always reminds me to be grounded and to know your roots and most importantly to be generous and kind.
⦁ What is your go-to comfort food after a long day of food reviewing?
I love a good burger. I am a burger person and that is what I need after a long and tiring day of work. My favourite and go to spot is pit-smokers, it’s a cloud kitchen and I love their chicken dhuadar burger.
⦁ If you could create your own food festival, what would the theme be and what kind of dishes would you feature?
If I had a food festival, I would name it "Desi Chinese for the Desi in you", I love my desi street style chowmein and chicken 65. I would happily feature some hot and spicy noodles, fried rice, chicken chilli, chicken 65 and more such dishes.
⦁ What is the strangest dessert you have ever tasted? Why was it strange?
I once tried a chocolate dosa, didn't like it that much honestly.
VAIBHAV MITTAL
Vaibhav Mittal is a Chartered Accountant by qualification and a businessman by profession. From a young age, he has been fascinated by food and its diverse flavours, always eager to explore new culinary experiences. This passion for different cuisines sparked his journey into content creation, which began around 9-10 years ago with Zomato reviews and active participation in Facebook food groups, which were popular at the time. In 2017, he took his love for food a step further by launching his Instagram page, @foodtrails hyderabad where he continues to share his culinary adventures.
What is the most unusual or unexpected dish you have ever reviewed?
The most unusual or unique dish I’ve ever reviewed would be Mirchi ka Halwa.
⦁ Other than taste, what other factors influence your rating of a restaurant or dish?
While taste is the primary factor for a restaurant, the other factors like ambience, service and presentation are important.
⦁ If you could eat only one cuisine for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
One cuisine I would eat for the rest of my life would definitely be South Indian Food for its variety and the diverse flavours.
⦁ What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in food content creation?
Start it for the love for food and content creation. Try to bring in your unique touch or style to it. Being true to your audience will create a cult following.

⦁ What criteria do you use to evaluate a dish/restaurant, and how do you ensure your reviews are both honest and constructive?
When evaluating a dish or a restaurant, I consider several factors, including the quality of ingredients, the balance of flavours, presentation, and the overall dining experience. I also pay attention to the ambiance, service, and how well the restaurant delivers on its promise, whether that's a fine dining experience or a casual meal. Honesty is paramount in my reviews, but I also strive to be constructive. If something doesn't meet expectations, I focus on providing feedback that can help both the restaurant and the followers. My goal is to be fair and offer insights that are useful, rather than simply being critical.
⦁ Can you walk us through your process of creating a food review from start to finish?
My process begins with research. With so many restaurants opening up daily, I usually look into the background of the restaurant, the chef, and the cuisine they specialize in. Once at the restaurant, I take notes on everything from the ambiance to the service and, of course, the food. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible, enjoying the meal like any other diner. Afterward, I gather my thoughts and draft the review for a reel, focusing on both the positives and areas for improvement. I ensure that my review is detailed yet concise, offering followers a comprehensive view of the dining experience. Finally, I pair the review with high quality images and videos that capture the essence of the meal, as visuals are a crucial part of conveying the story behind the food.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she began sharing homemade food creations on Instagram. This caught the attention of several restaurants, leading to opportunities to review their dishes. The experience ignited a passion for food, prompting her to delve into the world of food blogging. And so, she found her calling. @thefoodierider hyderabad.
⦁ What is your favourite cuisine to explore and review about?
My favourite cuisine to explore and review is Mughlai. I love the rich, aromatic flavours and the variety of dishes, especially the biryanis, kebabs, and creamy curries. The depth of spices and the history behind the cuisine always make it a fascinating experience for me.
⦁ Which food dish can you eat for the rest of your life without getting bored?
Mutton Biryani.
⦁ If you could travel anywhere for a food adventure, where would you go and what is the first thing you would eat?
If I could travel anywhere for a food adventure, I would choose Turkey. The first thing I’d try would be the authentic kebabs and explore the variety of dishes they offer. Experiencing the rich flavours of Turkish cuisine in its homeland would be an incredible experience
⦁ What is your favourite restaurant/café to eat at and why?
My favourite restaurant to eat at is Tosh-e-Daan. As a lover of Mughlai food, I find their Mughlai and Hyderabadi delicacies are truly exceptional here. The rich flavours, perfectly cooked dishes, and authentic taste make it a goto spot for indulging in my favourite cuisine.
AHMED ASHFAQ
As a trained orthodontist, Ahmed Ashfaq had a successful career in dentistry. After completing their master's degree, he frequently indulged in dining out. At the suggestion of his sister, he began capturing the food they enjoyed and sharing it on Instagram. Initially, he didn’t know much about photography or what a food blog entailed, but he began researching and eventually came up with a simple name - @dr.foodiehyd for the page. The journey started to gain momentum, especially during the pandemic, when the introduction of Instagram reels helped expand their audience. His use of Hyderabadi voiceovers became particularly popular, further boosting the reach.
⦁ How do you balance both your dental practice and your food blog?
As an orthodontist, I'm a consultant. So, I have a little leeway there in terms of I visit when all the appointments are there, then I just wrap it up. And then use my free time for blogging.
⦁ How do stay relevant and maintain a loyal fanbase in a market with so many food content creators?
You have to stay original with your content from the beginning. Its always good to come with your own ideas and do something different that makes you stand out. Constantly keep looking at your insights to know what kind of content works best and what content the audience is relating more with.
⦁ With so many food content creators out there, how do you stay inspired to create fresh and engaging content?
It’s tough, we do have phases of burnout. Having a goal in mind gives me some motivation and sometimes the love we get, the people we meet and the kind words they have to say gives me a lot of inspiration.
⦁ How do you approach reviewing cuisines or dishes that you are unfamiliar with?
I was a picky eater pre-blogging. I used to read up about the dishes before tasting them. For example, Sushi was a dish that I never dreamt of eating. But treating food blogging as a job and tasting various cuisines just to review them helped me improve me palette. I used to never like mushrooms or avocados either. I eat avocado toast regularly now.
⦁ If you were a dish, what would you be?
I would either be chicken 65 because that is my favourite or I would be some sort of huge indulgent chocolate desserts with crunchy elements.
⦁ Is there any specific dish that you are craving right now?
Death by Chocolate by Corner House in Bangalore. They top an ice cream with pieces of chocolate cake and cover it with chocolate fudge sauce, whipped cream and cherries.
VASANTHI SINGAMPALLI
Vasanthi Singampalli is an IT professional and Social Media Influencer whose journey into blogging and influencing began in late 2018 with the creation of her page @tastydrips
Although she had been a passionate food explorer for years, she hadn’t documented her experiences until then. During the era when Facebook and Zomato were popular, Instagram hadn't yet gained much traction for sharing pictures and videos. However, Vasanthi recognized that Instagram would eventually become the key platform to reach local audiences. With the number of eateries in Hyderabad constantly increasing, she began exploring and documenting them, aiming to share the best of the city's vibrant food scene with the local community.
⦁ Can you share your content creation process, from selecting restaurants to writing reviews? There wouldn't be any selection criteria per se for places, as long as I have enjoyed my experience there, it’s something that I would love to share with the audience. As for content creation, today's diminishing attention span of viewers really demands everything be given clear, concise and fast. My philosophy has always been to focus on the gist of a place - bring out the USPs, have some decent food shots to tempt my audience and tie it in a lovely package with voiceover or tag lines for the audience to feel engaged and interested with.
⦁ What’s the most Instagrammable dish you’ve ever had? Did you like it?
That's a tricky one really! In the aesthetic era of Instagram, I feel every restaurant and eatery is doing their best to give that one thing of beauty to capture the attention. There are a lot of them in my mind, off the top of my head I think the Grand Cru Chocolate Marquise at Roast CCX, Baklava Cheesecake at Qosa, Royalla Pil Pil at Glass House. Each of them brilliant in their own right - I can go back in for more anytime!
