GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE

Craig Hicks

September was a month to remember, specifically regarding the 2022 "Giddy Up" at the Horse Member Guest Tournament. We had such a great time putting this event together and executing it for our members and guests. To say it was top notch would be appropriate in my opinion and we appreciate the great feedback we have received from all who participated. From the time everyone set foot on property on Thursday to when they left on Saturday night, it was a good time had by all. A big time congrats to Chris Dauterive and guest Matt Brewer on winning this year's edition of the Member Guest

As we transition to October, it is time to crown new champions in our Club Championships. We look forward to contesting those two events to see who our best golfers are. October brings on more events for our members including evening social events, like member BINGO!

Hopefully by now you have had an opportunity to play a round in one of the new golf carts. We are just as excited as you that the new fleet has arrived. We are even more excited that our new cage FINALLY arrived for the range picker. Thank you again for your patience during this challenging time on the range

We know that October is a busy month here at the Club and we are working to keep our tee time availability as clean as we can to help get more members on the course. Please continue to book times for the amount of players you actually have joining you so that we can be respectful of our fellow members and give everyone that wants to a chance to play

MEMBERSHIP UPDATE

I knew we would be able to deliver a great Member Guest, but the "Giddy Up" exceeded even my own expectations of the event As you may know about me, I enjoy getting to spend quality time with our membership and this was a fun setting to do so

We saw Kendall Acosta riding a mechanical bull, horses walking around the course on Friday, Kyle Homrighaus sticking an iron in the Horserace and Chris Dauterive sinking a putt to win it all These moments and everything in between helped to make this one of the most memorable tournaments I have ever been a part of Did I mention I saw Scott Vrana on the dance floor with his wife? This event had a little bit of everything and we hope you enjoyed playing it as much as we did running it

I am excited to have football season back, although my wife probably wishes I wasn't checking my

fantasy teams quite so often. We will do our best to keep the games on in Roper's Grill on Sunday afternoons, so don't be a stranger come spend your afternoons with us.

I asked you last month to recommend some friends to the Club and many of you did just that. I want to thank you for introducing great people to me and I am excited that a few of them decided to join our membership As you may know, the amount of member events has been on the rise and I hope you are taking advantage of the opportunity to play in them I am going to try to join Play with the Pro this month as well Maybe I will get paired up with you!

Mark your calendars for this year's Member Christmas Party! Yes, it is hard to believe we are already talking about Christmas but it will be here before you know it This year's event is going to be Wednesday, December 7th I hope you can make plans to be there as this is always an enjoyable time had by all

COURSE MAINTENANCE

September was dry and a little on the warm side, but relief is on the horizon as we move into October Maintenance mode is a good term for this month as our agronomic staff is keeping up the mowing and detail work All surfaces are doing great after Member Guest and we are looking to continue that trend into the fall and winter months All greens were recently fertilized with a granular product to enhance late season growth, aid in root growth and development, and improve overall plant health leading into the cooler months All tee surfaces and the driving range tees will receive the same treatment for the same reasons Coming up in the following weeks, we will get out our pre emergent herbicide applications to all turf to control winter weeds I can see more tree work on the horizon, as well as continued detail work to fine tune the courses for the increased play with cooler temperatures coming soon

In October, we will be going away from the 90 degree rule and introducing the “Blue Stake Rule”. This will be new to the Club but will be a method to help the golf course. I believe our membership will like this method as well. This cart rule is simple there will be two blue stakes on each hole alongside the cart path. You can leave the cart path after passing the first blue stake and must return to the cart path before the second. Our team will be moving these stakes on a regular basis in order to control wear patterns on the turf. Thank you in advance for following this new procedure each and every time. As always, as a friendly reminder, please continue to adhere to all cart rules, ropes and stakes and please keep filling divots and repairing ball marks.

Blue Stake Rule: The yellow line represents the golf cart and the route traveled. The blue lines represent the blue stakes. As illustrated, the cart does not leave the cart path until passing the first blue stake and returns to the cart path prior to the second blue stake. You do not have to enter and exit at the blue stakes, but anywhere in between as indicated by the yellow shading.

BlackHorse Golf Club has been a part of my life for 10 years, off and on, to where I consider it a home away from home From the staff to all the members that have walked through the doors, this is a family and home to me So, it’s bittersweet for me to inform everyone that I have taken the opportunity to take a position at Champions Golf Club as an Assistant Golf Professional. This was a tough decision and took time to go over the options, as BlackHorse has become part of who I am. My official last day at BlackHorse Golf Club will be October 6th, 2022.

I want to thank all of the staff and members of BlackHorse for making this part of my life exceptionally enjoyable and special, and will carry the memories and lessons with me into the future

It was nice to host Play with the Pro at the end of September after the past few have been rained out We are back at it in October with two more events Registration links and dates for both events are listed below! We will also be continuing our complimentary members “Tips from the Pros” clinics, so make sure to get signed up for one of the four sessions scheduled for October!

PHOTO OF THE MONTH

This photo was taken by Sarah Smith during the 2022 Member Guest When we first saw this picture we thought it really summed up what this event was all about Darren McNeely and guest Derek Desola just out on the course during one of their matches having a great time As you see the recap of the Member Guest throughout the rest of the newsletter, we want to thank Sarah for documenting the event through photographs for us!

THE LATEST FROM ROPER'S GRILL Erin Roper

Thank you to all of our members and your families for supporting our Member BINGO nights Backed by popular demand, we are back in action for BINGO this month We are changing the menu up, but Chef James and his team will be putting together a great meal and we will all get together for some more fun

If you have been to the North Halfway House Recently, you may have met our newest member of the BlackHorse team, Ann Marie Ann Marie was brought in to help us as we look to revamp and improve the atmosphere at the North Halfway We have no doubt that Ann Marie can provide the service level that we all expect at BlackHorse. For this location, it will be a significant step in the right direction.

Ann Marie has a lot of passion for food service. She has previously owned and operated her own coffee and bake shop We had a chance to sample some cookies she baked, and they are really good! We will also be introducing new offerings specifically for the North Halfway. Beginning in October, we will offer gourmet coffee and muffins, both available for purchase. Members will still have access to complimentary black coffee in Roper's Grill. Ann Marie has many great ideas that we believe are going to be strong additions to our club. Please be sure to stop by and enjoy a friendly conversation with her and grab one of our new offerings! As we continue throughout the year, we look forward to the continuation of expanding what the North Halfway has to offer
