This morning we officially kicked off the renovation of our Fitness Center with a small groundbreaking ceremony. A special thank you to our Club at Kingsmill Members Mr. Bill Hoover and Mrs. Lynda Sharett for being great champions of this project. Although work began several weeks ago it was great to swing the ceremonial first hammer! This project is the first of many facility improvements that we will be working on over the coming years. We will be sharing progress pictures throughout the project on The Club at Kingsmill's Facebook page. Click here to access and “like” the page. We will also post Club updates and share content from different “Member Only” events on this Facebook page
I look forward to seeing everyone next Wednesday at the James Landing Grille for our Monthly Member Mixer Make your reservations for Valentine’s Dinner which will be offered on February 13 and 14 Also, be sure to RSVP for the Jazz Ball that will be held in the James River Grand Ballroom later this month

Greetings Members!
It’s hard to believe that it has now been over two years since you all accepted me so graciously as a part of your Kingsmill family
As you all well know, Kingsmill is a very special place. It is an important place, a storied place, with a history literally like no other Club. To be a part of its stewardship is a big deal for me and an opportunity for which I am very grateful.
In my thirty-plus years in the private club industry, I have never experienced such a wonderful, warm, and special group of Members and Teammates.
All of this makes the current progress of the reinvention of your Members Sports Club even more exciting to share Not too long from now, you will indeed enjoy the finest fitness and wellness center anywhere in the region Make sure to tell all of your friends!
I thank you for all that you are, and all that you do, I look forward to many more years ahead with each and every one of you!

We appreciate all the Members who participated in great January programming around the Club, as we hosted our New Year’s brunch, music at Elements, Member Mixer, MGA Annual Meeting, wine tasting, and Junior Golf Clinics I would like to thank our entire Kingsmill team for putting together a great calendar of events and executing them proudly. January also marked a successful Sports Club transition into Eagles. The move has gone well, and we are currently evaluating all experiences to try and ensure as much of the old experience is replicated during this transition phase.
Did you know? We have an indoor golf studio downstairs at Eagles that ensures golf lessons can be taught year-round, regardless of the weather? Chris, Yancey, Todd, and Darryl are always available for lessons!
February is a great time of year around the Club as we turn the pages of 2023 Our team is super excited about upcoming programming for the month, including live music at Elements, February Member Mixer, Valentine’s Day Dinner, and a Jazz Ball. We hope you are able to relax and enjoy the programming at The Club with your friends and families
Thank you for being a Member; we look forward to seeing you around!
As February comes around, so does the time for our spring pre-emergent for any weeds that we may face throughout the spring and summer seasons. In order to maintain healthy turfgrass and an even playing surface, keeping the weed population under control is essential In addition to our pre-emergent, we will be spraying a nonselective herbicide to take care of any unwanted weeds we may be seeing now. While the turfgrass is dormant, these products are safe to apply as the turf is not actively growing This will also help reduce seedhead production in the spring by wiping out the plants now before they get the chance to seed. As we are applying these herbicides over the next few weeks, please be sure to check with the Golf Shop or the Agronomy Blog for course closures and delays
We are installing a golf lift at the Woods maintenance facility. Having a golf lift is critical for our equipment technicians to properly maintain the turf equipment. Months long projects of raising tree canopies, grinding stumps, and removing dead trees continue through the winter
Thank you for your continued support!
We all know how challenging it can be coming up the last three holes of the River Course and the wind is gusting 15-20 mph or more off the James River A great shot you can play to keep your ball under the wind is the knockdown shot Here’s how to execute this shot:
Make sure to go up a club as you will only be making a ¾ swing. Depending on how strong the wind is, you may have to go up two clubs or more
At address, play the ball slightly back in your stance and move your weight slightly forward to your front foot
As you make your ¾ backswing, keep the weight slightly forward on the front foot.
Through impact, keep the logo of your glove pointing at the target and make an abbreviated follow through
Thank you for taking the time to read our Golf Tips for February and we look forward to seeing you out on the course!
Thank you,
John Todd Gantt, PGABorn near Jackson, Missouri, on a small farm in Southeast Missouri that has been in his family since 1859 (and is still in his family to this day). Married to his wife, Terry, for 47 years and has two children and nine grandchildren His daughter, Chris, is an Air Force Colonel and his son, Drew, works for the Department of Defense.
In 1995, when my family was returning to the United States from Belgium, my wife always wanted to work in Colonial Williamsburg. We already owned a lot in Kingsmill so rather than going back to Northern Virginia we decided to build Terry was able to work for Colonial Williamsburg and I would find a job somewhere in the area until I could retire in seven years. Well, the last point did not work out all that well. For seven years, I would commute to the Pentagon on Monday morning or Sunday night and return on Friday
Terry and the kids got to enjoy all of Kingsmill for those seven years. I only had the pleasure on weekends But, as Terry would say, she always knew that I would come home because there were three golf courses waiting for me. We loved the community and the history of the area.
Three golf courses, and being able to golf (nearly) 365 days a year! And all the trees!
Started a round on February 16, 2019, on The River Course in some iffy weather, with a group concession that if the weather got too bad we would call it a day quickly Well, I got a hole-in-one on #2 – then the weather turned awful with rain, then freezing rain. We got in nine holes but everyone was frozen and wanted to quit. Loren reminded everyone that the hole-inone would not count if the round was not finished within 24 hours I checked and saw that the the rain would stop around 3 PM So, I went home, took a shower, warmed up, and went back to finish the round at 3 PM. Lou Bartek, who had been playing with us that day (and is still a staff member) agreed to ride and score the last nine holes for me. We finished the round before it got dark I probably scored a 100 on the last nine But who cares, I finished and had my official second hole-in-one, and the plaque is on the wall to prove it

January has just flown by, and believe it or not we have been very busy in the Culinary world. We are very happy that we have kept Eagles, James Landing Grille, and Elements all open for dining in January. My team and I are currently working on all new menus for these three areas and also the new menu for the Lazy River Pool's Snack Bar As the weather gets warmer our offerings will be expanded and will reflect the bright things to come as we enter the spring season.
Valentine's Day is almost here and we will be offering specials, both in Elements for dinner, and The Mill for a Grab-n-Go option. These specials will run on both Monday and Tuesday, so please don’t miss out on these amazing offerings Lastly, we are working with our Golf Pro's to create a special event in March called Whiskey, Wine and Wedges, guaranteed to be a memorable time.
Thank you all for your great support, I look forward to seeing you around the Resort.
Thank you, Chef

Ole Man Winter hasn’t stopped us, yet Programs, lessons, recreational play, and mixers are keeping our courts active We enjoyed our first indoor mixer at McCormack-Nagelson Tennis Center, hosted by the KTA on January 22, and we followed that with an outdoor Dogs and Dubs Mixer on our clay courts on January 28 KTA will host another mixer on February 26, with registration information available soon
Juniors and Adults have enjoyed sharpening their skills with drills and lessons, getting ready for the upcoming USTA League Season Players interested in playing on a Kingsmill USTA League Team, and the opportunity to compete with other local players, are encouraged to contact Davy Hairston, Director of Racquet Sports, to learn more or connect with other Members to form teams We’ve also cleaned up our Pickleball Courts, with improved visibility of our court lines So, there’s no excuse now for stepping into “the kitchen” at the wrong time .
Our blog continues to offer updates on court conditions, programs, and events, so please make use of this by subscribing to receive this information - https://kingsmilltennis blog/
