Last week 59 teams competed in The Gunslinger, our Men’s Member Guest Thank you to all the Members and guest who participated Congratulations to our 2023 overall champions Collin Suttie and Jeff McCrory A big thank you to the entire staff who worked so hard on making this the premier golf event at The Gallery. The courses played great, the food and service were excellent, and the entire golf staff did a great job running a great tournament.

Ladies, there is still time to sign up for this season's Ladies Member-Guest April 12th-14th! You and your guest are invited to join us for a lavish 3 day event at the Club! This year's theme is Hawaiian Tropical. Click here to see the flyer. Don't miss out!

I would personally like to thank all the participants who played in this year’s Gunslinger! It was a fabulous week culminating with an awesome final day. Congratulations to our 2023 Gunslinger Champions, Collin Suttie and Jeff McCrory!

AGRONOMY UPDATE, THE GALLERY GOLF COURSE

Dear Gallery Members,

April is a busy month for both the Club and our Agronomy team The conclusion of the successful LIV Golf event shifts our teams’ focus on those processes needed to remediate the turf impacted by hospitality structures, camera towers and heavy equipment traffic Although some areas will only require minimal maintenance inputs, other larger areas will require vertical mowing, aerification, scalping, fertilization and in some cases, sod repair These processes are implemented to more quickly recover and establish a suitable playing surface Expect these efforts to continue through the month

Similar clean-up efforts implemented on the South Course in preparation for the LIV event will now begin on the North Course Our primary focus will encompass desert edges, vegetation overgrowth and tee surrounds/walk-ups This process will not occur as expeditiously in comparison to the South, primarily because the work will be completed in-house Our team has already begun this process and will likely continue through the summer

Chemical applications will be limited to preemergent chemistry to mitigate both Goosegrass and Crabgrass pressure throughout both courses. Subsequent applications of a granular product will occur once transition is complete and our ryegrass crop has been eliminated. Desert areas will also be treated with a pre-emergent herbicide to restrict the growth of weed grasses and summer annual broadleaves.

Greens repair and bermudagrass contamination removal will resume, primarily on the North Course, addressing as many impacted areas as possible until our nursery is depleted.

Good Day Members,

April is my favorite month in the high Sonoran Desert of Tucson, Arizona I believe the weather in April is perfect80’s during the day and 60’s at night to enjoy nice evenings dining on one of our great patio settings Also, the desert is typically in full bloom with tons of beautiful plants, flowers, cacti, and much more

This month we look forward to hosting our Men’s Member-Guest This event is certainly one of our premier Member events at the Club Congratulations to our Ladies Member-Guest winners - Priscilla Park and her guest Susan Basso!

The Golf

Our team has poured a lot of energy, resources, and hard work into improving the overall golf course conditions at Dove Mountain this season I would like to commend our Superintendent, Nathan Gloyd and his team on pushing the limits on what can be done to improve the courses for our Membership We all want to take great pride in bringing guests to our golf courses and I truly feel that now we can do that at Dove Mountain

Spring is officially here! Looks like we are out of the cold spell and ramping up for the final month of our busy season with one more major event still to come The golf courses are in phenomenal shape and I hope to see you all out there tuning up your games and enjoying this amazing weather in April.

March was a very busy month with a lot of events at both Clubs. We also hosted the LIV Golf Event at The Gallery which allowed us to showcase Dove to a lot of our Gallery only Members. I hope that you all enjoyed the week playing over here and hope to see more of you in the future.

We kicked off the month of March with our ICON Desert Classic and had some good weather following the four inches of snow that fell the day prior. We are looking to move this event next year to the first weekend in May so please be on the lookout for that.

We hosted our March 9 & Dine on Thursday, March 9th and had a fantastic turnout for the golf and the dinner. We had a 3-way tie for First Place and after the scorecard playoff our winners were: Greg and Caye Norwick and Jamie and Shari Barney. Thank you to everyone who participated!

To wrap up the month of March we hosted our 2023 Women’s Member/Guest from March 23rd – 25th. We had 14 teams vying for the title this year and it was an amazing event from the start to the wild finish! We opened the event with our skills challenge on Thursday evening. The skills challenge included a 100 foot putt and an 85 yard closest to the pin competition. We then finished it with the always popular Blast OFF! Our winners for the long putt went to Sherry Hewitt and Laurie Block, Closest to the Pin went to Kim Klippstein and Heidi Beck and our 2023 Blast OFF champs were Priscilla Park and Sue Basso.

The event itself was hard fought and the shootout included 7 teams Our Flight Winners were Priscilla Park and Sue Basso and Deb Boe and Amy Myers The shootout ended up going four extra holes to determine our 2023 Champs which set a record for Dove with the most holes played in a shootout

RECIPE OF THE

BANANA CREME PIE

Ingredients:

¾ cup white sugar

⅓ cup all-purpose flour

¼ teaspoon salt

2 cups milk

3 egg yolks, beaten

2 tablespoons butter, salted

1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract

1 (9 inch) baked pastry shell, cooled

4 bananas, sliced

Steps:

1 Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C)

2 Combine sugar, flour, and salt in a saucepan Gradually stir in milk Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until mixture boils and thickens. Continue to cook and stir for 2 more minutes, then remove from the heat.

3 Place egg yolks in a medium bowl; whisk in a small amount of the hot milk mixture until smooth, then gradually whisk egg yolk mixture into the saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla

4 Fill pastry shell with sliced bananas; pour pudding mixture on top to cover.

5. Bake in the preheated oven until filling sets, 12 to 15 minutes Chill pie for 1 hour before serving

It’s April and just beginning to warm up. A great time to be outside enjoying this beautiful weather! Please be mindful as the snakes are emerging and we are an open property. If you are lucky to see one, please relay to the desk staff for assistance.

If you are interested in joining a hiking a group, The Sports Club would love to help get a group together. We have started a list and will post it on our bulletin board by the locker rooms There are a plethora of hiking trails right here on Dove Mountain! Please email me if you are interested!

Happy Spring!

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the LIV golf tournament a few weeks ago! I appreciate your patience with getting the Golf Shop back to normal and getting all of your special orders processed and into your hands Although having to empty the entire shop was quite the task, it left a great opportunity for some much-needed revamping! We’re loving the bright paint and new carpet, and I’m excited to re-arrange our space a little bit to enhance our Member shopping experience.

Last month I attended the SGRA Merchandise Show in Mesa to meet with our vendors and put a plan together for Fall apparel I’m very excited to introduce some new brands to our shops including Holderness & Bourne, Swannies, Golftini, Roostas Belts, and possibly a few others Please continue to give me feedback on your favorite brands!
