April 12th – 14th
Please see the Local Rule The Gallery Golf Club will be implementing on Hole #6 North beginning March 1st
RULES
Local Rule B-3: Provisional Ball for Ball in a Penalty Area
The Gallery uses Local Rule B-3 for balls that may be in the Yellow Penalty Area on South #11 and will now also use the same Local Rule for balls that may be in the Red Penalty Area on North #6.
Normally, a player is not allowed to play a provisional ball if it is known or virtually certain that their ball is in a Penalty Area. But in unusual cases the size, shape, or location of a Penalty Area may be such that:
The player cannot see whether the ball is in the Penalty Area, and
It would unreasonably delay play if the player had to go forward to look for the ball before returning to play another ball.
For such situations, the provisional ball Rule (18.3) is modified to allow a player to play a provisional ball using one of the available Penalty Area relief options in Rule 17 before going to look for their ball.
South #11 Yellow Penalty Area relief options:
Play another ball from where the original ball was last played under penalty of Stroke-and-Distance (Rule 14.6), or
Play another ball using Back-on-the-Line relief [Rule 17.1d(2)], or
Play another ball from the Dropping Zone located on the left side of the fairway in front of the Penalty Area.
North #6 Red Penalty Area relief options:
Play another ball from where the original ball was last played under penalty of Stroke-and-Distance (Rule 14.6), or
Play another ball using Back-on-the-Line relief [Rule 17.1d(2)], or
Play another ball using Lateral relief [Rule 17.1d(3)].
In either case, if the original ball is found inside the Penalty Area within the 3-minute search period, the player may choose either to:
Continue playing the original ball, abandoning the provisional ball, or
Play the provisional ball, abandoning the original ball.
If the original ball is found outside the Penalty Area, the player must play the ball and abandon the provisional ball.
If the original ball is not found within the 3-minute search period, the player must play the provisional ball and cannot choose to take a different penalty relief option.
If the provisional ball becomes the ball in play, then the applicable penalty stroke must be added to the score for the hole.
Just a friendly reminder, the Golf Shop will be closed March 9th – 21st for the LIV Tucson event. If you need to get in touch with the Professional Staff, please reach out via email.
Good Golfing! Mike

AGRONOMY UPDATE, THE GALLERY GOLF COURSE
Mark Soto
Dear Gallery Members,
March will be an exciting month with the LIV Golf Tucson event set to begin on the 17th Final tournament preparations are being made around numerous areas of the golf course Our agronomy team will be increasing the frequency of foliar fertility applications through advance week to assist with growth Weather has been uncooperative with significant rain and snow events not typical during this time of the year Expect additional granular fertilizer applications to occur around green surrounds and tee surfaces With these applications comes additional irrigation beyond what the course requirements are
Bermudagrass contamination removal operations have concluded The remaining contamination is limited to edges/falloffs (non-puttable locations) of each green Once the tournament has concluded our removal operation will continue Later in the month we will begin reestablishing our bentgrass nursery on the southwest end of the practice facility The nursery will be seeded
Desert clean-up will be focused on spot spraying remaining weed pressure and mechanically edging the perimeter of each hole to reestablish the hard line between turf and desert There are some shrubs, trees and debris that remain throughout the course and will be removed prior to the start of the tournament
Walk-path decomposed granite installation will also be in process leading up to the event establishing all paths to be used by the players All other paths will be addressed after the conclusion of the event and continuing into the spring and summer
Mowing heights on both North and South courses (fairways, tees, approaches) will be noticeably reduced resulting in a much tighter surface
As always, you can contact me directly by email (msoto@gallerygolf com) or my direct line at (520) 572-8382
