Dear Black Diamond Members:

Do you remember the first time you visited Black Diamond Ranch? If you are like me, the experience never gets old and it is truly one of the most iconic golf destinations in the world! Tom Fazio, one of the world’s most respected Golf Architects is so proud of his work here at Black Diamond that he features the Quarry 15th hole on the opening page of his Fazio Golf Design Website! Black Diamond is truly one of the world’s most unique golf developments, and there are no clubs in Florida that can rival our 45-Fazio designed holes, the eighty-foot cliffs standing guard at the Quarry, and the many elevation changes.

This month we begin the first phase of the Ranch Restoration project, featuring installation of a new Irrigation system, Bunker renovation, and Tee renovation Once the project is underway, we will keep everyone updated with pictures and videos so you can see the project as it progresses In appreciate all your support and patience as we head into an exciting new chapter of Black Diamond’s future

For those of you away for the summer, remember that we are only a phone call or email Dmcquade@blackdimaondranch.com away, so please stay in touch.

Thanks, Dave

GOLF SHOP MONTHLY UPDATE

Playing in Hot, Humid Conditions:

Playing the game of golf when the temperature reaches 90+ degrees is a challenge both mentally as well as physically

There are a few things every player should do before venturing out on the course on a hot day Most players nowadays are aware of the serious damage the sun can cause to the skin over time A sunscreen of at least 15SPF may prevent wrinkling and skin cancer of over exposed skin

While I have heard some players complain that they don’t like the oily feeling of sunscreens, there are some very good ones on the market that are non-greasy

For the best protection, it is recommended that you apply sunscreen after you shower in the morning when the skin is most absorbent

Continued exposure of the eyes can also cause irreversible retina damage As a preventative measure, it is advisable to wear a large-brimmed hat, or at least a cap whenever you go out into the sun You will notice that many tour players are wearing sunglasses during tournament rounds to block out the Sun’s damaging rays

One of the most important things to do when playing in hot, humid conditions is to keep the grips dry Having a towel handy is a must, as you can wet half of it to help dry the perspiration It should go without saying that drinking plenty of fluids is a must on a hot day to help keep the body cool While drinking water is the best, some sports drinks are better for your well-being than highly sugared sodas Wear light colored clothing and shorts if possible Using a Golf Cart will help conserve energy If you were ever to feel the heat is too much (i e dizzy, lightheaded, etc ) get off the course as soon as possible

As Professionals, we want to see you around for a long time!

MEMBERSPOTLIGHT

Margaret & Rodney Culverwell

Rodney and Margaret met in NW Colorado have been together since 1996 They eventually bought Rodney’s family ranch in Craig, CO where they raised 675 beef cattle and 300 sheep; cut hay; built roads, ponds and fences; and ran a big-game hunting operation as well as custom cattle hauling Their ranch was the size of Manhattan, NY and had 85 miles of fence They semiretired in 2009 when they sold the cattle but kept the ranch In 2010, they bought a motorhome and started traveling the US during the winter months. On their way to the FL east coast one winter, they drove through the Citrus County area and loved the warm weather and decided they would rather spend their winters in shorts than in Carhartt coveralls all winter where temperatures could drop to negative 40 degrees F. In 2012, they became snowbirds and bought a home in Pine Ridge. After picking up a golf club for the first time, they discovered they both really enjoyed the game of golf so they started looking for a golfing community to move to. The beauty of the Quarry, the gated community and the three private golf courses is what sold the Culverwells on making BD their forever home. They loved BD so much that they decided to sell their ranch and fully retire. They continued to return back to CO to work the ranch and run 1,000 head of yearling steers in the Summer and Fall months until they sold their ranch in January 2023.

They are both excited for their new year-round life in Black Diamond They are overwhelmed with how kind BD residents are and how much everyone welcomed and accepted them Their daily phrase is: “Life is good”
