ACO Water Management recognises that protection of the environment is a crucial part of an integrated approach to modern surface water management and sustainable drainage systems (SuDS). Contamination of ground water and watercourses from hydrocarbons (petrol, diesel and engine oil) carried by surface water run-off poses serious threats to the environment. Two advanced systems are manufactured to address these challenges. • Rainwater and surface water run-off filtration systems ACO QuadraCeptor is a specialist rainwater and surface water run-off filtration system for the removal of sediment and harmful pollutants. ACO QuadraCeptor significantly improves water quality, removing pollutants before infiltration into the soil or discharge into water courses. • Bypass and full retention oil separators ACO Q-Ceptor oil separators are an innovative range of bypass and full retention separators. The high performance systems are fully compliant with BS EN 858:2002 parts 1 and 2 and exceed the requirements of the Environment Agency’s PPG 3 guidelines. ACO Q-Ceptors are available in a range of chamber sizes and flow rates for use in car parks, maintenance areas, and industrial and residential applications. Manufactured from polyethylene, the innovative single chamber design of the ACO Q-Ceptor is very compact and robust offering significant advantages in installation and handling costs over traditional GRP products. ACO Q-Ceptors are available in two performance classes as specified by BS EN 858-1:2002. Both Class 1 and Class 2 ACO Q-Ceptors are available as bypass or full retention separators. ACO Water Management solutions address the four stages of Effective Water Management: Collect, Clean, Hold, Release.

Ridgistorm-XL is an engineered, thermoplastic, large-diameter pipe system for use in a wide variety of applications. Ridgistorm-XL is lighter in weight than rigid materials, yet strong, robust and flexible. It is able to withstand significant ground movement and differential settlement.
Applications Ridgistorm-XL is suitable for surface water and foul water drainage, combined sewers, largescale flood alleviation schemes, renewable energy and even displacement ventilation. It is available in varying stiffness categories to suit individual site conditions, and can be used for a range of applications including residential and commercial developments, highways and open spaces. • Pipe profile design Pipe profiles can be adapted to maximise strength and minimise the use of material within the pipeline. This improves pipeline performance and provides a fully engineered solution. • Jointing options Ridgistorm-XL can be designed and manufactured to suit any jointing requirements on-site. Ring seals, electro-fusion welding, extrusion welding, flange connections and mechanical pipe couplings can all be utilised with the system. • Safety ancillaries Additional health and safety features can be chosen for Ridgistorm-XL chambers, including lifting points, safety chains and guardrails.
Dimensions Diameters: 750–3000mm; lengths: 1.25–12m.
Yorkshire Water utilises Ridgistorm-XL
VW profile Profile type VW enables the production of a solid pipe with a smooth inner and outer surface. These pipes can be produced with a wall thickness of 5–80mm. This profile can be used in certain pipeline and chamber applications.
PR profile Pipes produced with a PR profile achieve high stiffness with relatively low weight. This is a common pipe profile for use in surface water, foul and combined sewer drainage.
Olympia profile In addition to the PR profile, the Olympia profile option can achieve greater pipeline stiffness with a comparatively low weight. This profile is often used in the larger diameters of Ridgistorm-XL.

Penstock pre-fitted to headwall with floor column
Althon offers flow control devices that can be used in surface, sewer and process water applications. • Flap valves Flap valves are a simple and effective way to prevent water backflow into a system. For heavier duty applications, 100–1500mm flaps are made with additional features such as welded stiffening ribs. They are manufactured in a combination of HDPE and 316 stainless steel, meaning they are lightweight and high in strength. They are easy to install, responsive and reliable. • Penstocks Medium-duty penstocks are a simple, effective way to prevent water backflow into a system. Designs have been developed to accommodate the majority of situations where a penstock is required. They are suitable for sealing pressures of 5mWC as standard, require virtually no maintenance, and are fast, safe and easy to install. • Stop logs Stop logs are used for the isolation and containment of water. They are lightweight and corrosion resistant, and are suitable for applications where standard single-piece stop gates would be too heavy to lift or where multiple door sections are called for. They are manufactured in the latest materials combined with aluminium or stainless steel, meaning that a solution can be provided for most water sewage and effluent treatment situations. • Inline WaStop valves WaStop valves can be installed inline between two pipes to prevent backflow. They are made from 304 or 316 stainless steel, or PVC tube, and incorporate a cone-shaped chloroprene membrane. The membrane allows water flow to pass in the desired direction, but when backflow occurs, the membrane fills, sealing the pipe. As the WaStop does not rely on gravity to close the membrane, it does not need to be fitted against a vertical headwall. They are suitable for pressures up to 8mWC.

ACO Q-Brake vortex flow control
ACO Water Management is an expert in water engineering, providing design solutions for stormwater management. ACO’s approach to SuDS controls rainwater distribution from when it hits the ground until it re-enters the natural water environment, minimising environmental impact and maximising sustainability. ACO Water Management solutions address the four stages of Effective Water Management: Collect, Clean, Hold, Release. • Surface water infiltration and storage ACO StormBrixx is a unique and patented plastic geocellular stormwater management system for attenuation and soakaway (infiltration) usage. Its versatile design allows the system to be used in configurations and applications across all construction environments as a standalone solution or as part of an integrated sustainable urban drainage (SuDS) scheme. The patented brickbonding and cross bonding feature provides a strong, long-term installation and also helps to improve the construction speed of the tank. Delivery, site logistics and installation are all significantly simplified, as a result of the system’s ‘stackable’ design. The range consists of StormBrixx SD (standardduty) and StormBrixx HD (heavy-duty) systems. The open cell structure for both systems allows easy access for CCTV and jetting equipment from just a few access points. • Flow control and regulation ACO Q-Brake Vortex is a horizontal vortex flow control system designed to regulate stormwater flows of 2–100 litres per second. ACO Q-Plate regulates stormwater flows where a vortex flow control is not the most effective solution, or where flows are greater than 100 l/s. Both systems can be used in conjunction with retention and attenuation systems, such as ACO StormBrixx, as an integrated sustainable urban drainage (SuDS) scheme.

StableGRASS does not restrict root growth
HRL grass and gravel grids create a naturally permeable reinforced paved surface for vehicular and pedestrian use. Adding strength and durability, and largely invisible once installed, they blend in to the surrounding landscape with minimal visual impact. • StableGRASS grass grids StableGRASS offers two panel sizes in both 38mm and 50mm depths. Available in Green and Black as standard with Buff Dolomite produced to order, the range is flexible, covering almost all potential applications. All are fully interlocking, very robust, and secure, whilst the cell design creates free space for root development. StableGRASS MAXI is the flagship grid. Large dimensional panels of 1.2x0.8m can be laid in brick bond pattern, giving enhanced stability and enabling significant productivity gains on larger installations. Standard light to medium use will require the 38mm depth, whilst more regular vehicular requirements would need 50mm. StableGRASS 38 and StableGRASS 50 are supplied in more traditional 50x50cm panels, where that is a preferred option. Compressive load resistance is similar to StableGRASS MAXI. • StablePAVE gravel grids StablePAVE gravel grids feature a robust weedsuppressant membrane attached to the base, and offer a fast, effective, reinforced, permeable paving whilst restricting aggregate migration and preventing rutting. They allow all the aesthetic benefits of gravel surfaces with significantly added durability and a large reduction in the maintenance demands often associated with gravel paving. StablePAVE TRADE is a translucent white interconnecting panel of 1.2x0.8m produced in both 30 and 40mm depths. Designed as an economic paving solution for light to medium vehicle parking, pathway, pedestrian and communal areas, the grids will be invisible after correct installation. StablePATH ECO Black is an identical panel to StablePAVE TRADE other than the colour. As a consequence, cost is reduced and it is often used as a budget option on pathway networks. StablePAVE HD pro is a fully interlocking heavier duty grid for more frequently trafficked areas and where heavier point loads, such as horse boxes, and trailers are in regular use. Light Grey in colour StablePAVE HD Pro is 38mm deep.

Marshalls’ Priora is the UK’s best-selling permeable paving system. It eliminates surface water run-off, alleviates flood risk and improves water quality, providing biodiversity benefits to the local area. In addition, field tests in 2014 have proven that the patented nibs on the edge of each block create 40% more interlock than British Standard blocks. This provides a structurally superior surface that can take heavy loads moving at speeds in excess of 30mph. Priora sub-bases are also now shallower than the British Standard, saving time and money. Priora comes in a range of aesthetic finishes, including flag-sized options. • Sub-base ancillaries Priora blocks are underpinned by a suite of sub-base ancillaries, which can be specified as required. Priora 20mm sub-base and 6mm laying course aggregate give a higher void ratio and structural integrity than specified in the British Standard. MG15 Grid stabilises the sub-base aggregate, improving CBR by 1%. MM380 Membrane is used for the tanking of Type C non-infiltration systems. Tobermore has more than 75 years’ experience in manufacturing and supplying paving and walling products for all applications. The company can provide solutions that are both aesthetically pleasing and cost-effective, using products which are hard-wearing, have excellent colour retention and reduced efflorescence. At its UK headquarters, Tobermore uses a rainwatering harvesting system, generates electricity using a wind turbine, and ensures that all concrete waste is recycled and reused. • Hydropave SuDS permeable paving Hydropave permeable paving range is as versatile as Tobermore’s standard concrete block paving, but with the benefit of reducing the risk of flooding and pollution. Hydropave allows rainfall to infiltrate the ground naturally and reduce pressure on urban drainage systems. The inclusion of permeable paving as part of a SuDS will increase the likelihood of planning proposals being approved and may also offer a 10–15% cost saving over traditional methods due to a significant reduction in drainage costs.
