The new and improved Bodpave™ 40 interlocking porous paving system designed for grassed or gravel areas where there is regular pedestrian or vehicle use. Bodpave™ 40 enables landscaping and civil engineering professionals to specify 100% recycled plastics to create low-impact solutions that contribute to the circular economy. Bodpave™ 40’s innovative design incorporates four pre-clipped pavers with 250% stronger interlocking connections, reducing installation time by 25%. • Simple and fast installation Installers easily connect adjacent units with the snap-fit clips. Installation is faster, typically reducing labour costs by about £2,000 for a 6,000m2 project. The system does not require an installation permit. • Stronger connections with efficient load transfer for a longer service life The precise connectivity and rigid cell structure provide compressive strength up to 250 tonnes per square metre. With efficient transfer of loads between pavers, the new Bodpave™ 40 does not lift easily and therefore delivers a longer service life, and significantly reduces maintenance on site. • Manufacture and composition Bodpave™ 40 pavers are manufactured in the UK by Terram from recycled plastic pellets, supplied by sister company Berry Plasgran. They can be recycled afterwards to support the transition to a circular economy. • Sustainability On a 6,000m2 project, Bodpave™ 40 can deliver a 50% reduction in the CO2 footprint compared to traditional construction methods, as it is lighter to transport and uses fewer natural resources. • Typical applications Typical applications include: - parking areas and overflow car parks. - pedestrian and cycle paths. - caravan parks. - golf walkways. - emergency access routes. As the technology is porous, it also works effectively as part of a sustainable urban drainage (SuDs) system. Natural surface drainage has been proven to have a significant effect in reducing surface run-off and surges in drainage systems.

GrassProtecta™ is a heavy-duty polyethylene mesh that reinforces grassed root networks, preventing smear and wear. It is suitable for permanent grassed overflow car parks and pedestrian areas on firm, well-drained soil.

Composition and manufacture GrassProtecta™ is manufactured in the UK by Terram from up to 100% recycled plastic and is fully recyclable, helping reduce the CO2 footprint of projects and supporting the transition to a circular economy.

GrassProtecta™heavy-duty polyethylene mesh reinforces grassed root networks, preventing wear

Technical data GrassProtecta’s oscillated mesh structure provides a high level of traction and up to 97% higher slip resistance than other standard grass meshes on the market. It is available in three thicknesses: - Heavy: 14.5mm - Medium: 13mm - Lite: 10mm GrassProtecta will reinforce up to 8 tonnes/static axle load on firm ground, making it suitable for applications ranging from overflow car parks and light-aircraft taxiways to caravan sites, equestrian surfaces and verge stabilisation.

Installation and maintenance GrassProtecta™ is simple to install. No excavation is required and it easily accommodates shallow slopes. The sward grows through the mesh apertures and knits with the filaments to create a strong, discreetly reinforced surface capable of withstanding vehicle loads, limiting damage, and helping to reduce compaction by reducing direct contact with the soil surface. It can also be installed onto newly landscaped areas and seeded as required. Newly installed areas should be left untrafficked until the sward and the mesh have knitted – normally after a few weeks during the growing season, or a few months out of season.

CORE Landscape Products Tree root protection system CORE TRP is a three-dimensional cellular web system that provides protection to the roots of mature trees from pedestrian and vehicular traffic. It comprises a geocellular confinement panel that provides: three-dimensional load distribution; porous and highly puncture-resistant TRP membranes; and a TRP geogrid that provides additional 2-dimensional support. The system is installed within the RPA on top of the existing soil to create a shallow, high loadbearing, above-ground sub-base. It helps distribute the weight of traffic evenly across the surface delivering a significant reduction in the loads transferred from above. This prevents harmful subsoil compaction around the roots.

The recycled PE/PP tiles have excellent loadbearing and weight distribution properties. They are tested to withstand loads of over 60t/m2. Installed loadings will, however, depend on site ground conditions. The tiles resist frost, acids, solvents, heat and UV, and do not rot.

Sitework Unlike most reinforcement products, PERFO® can be compacted or rolled into unprepared even ground without excavation. Apart from a roller or rammer, no special tools or skills are needed. The patented ‘barb’ system makes fixing pegs unnecessary. Tiles can also be compacted into gravel with a sub-base for permeable parking.

CoirProducts biodegradable coir geotextile

CoirProducts.co.uk (of Salike Ltd) provides sustainable coir-based solutions for ground reinforcement and erosion control. Coir-based products are made from natural, fibrous material extracted from coconut husks, and are biodegradable. They are ethically produced and sourced, with minimal harm to the environment, and can be customised to meet individual requirements. The products are durable (with the coir fibre having a high tensile strength) and will hold soil in place for a long period of time. They are also useful for establishing vegetation as coir retains water and helps keep plant roots moist. • Geotextiles (coir netting) CoirProducts geotextiles (coir netting) can be used in the form of a vegetated cover, for soil stabilisation, soil reinforcement, landscaping and erosion control. They are woven into matting, and degrade in 3–5 years, enriching the soil. • Coir logs CoirProducts coir logs can help protect the disintegration of slopes, riverbanks, shorelines and other inclined landscapes. They are made of coir trapped inside a biodegradable coir twine or PP netting to form a log-shaped structure. • Coir sheets CoirProducts coir sheets consist of layers of coir fibre with a natural rubber latex layer added to hold the fibre together. They are used as plant liners, for weed control in vineyards, and for the prevention of soil erosion in smaller applications. • Salike blankets An innovative product developed by CoirProducts, Salike blankets can be used to cover slopes, shorelines, streams and river embankments. They consist of a layer of coir sheets and coir geotextiles, and come in 1x5m rolls. The blankets help vegetation and prevent unwanted weeds. • Erosion control blankets Erosion control blankets are suitable for use in areas that need immediate stabilisation, providing cover, helping to establish vegetation, and minimising sediment run-off. • Coir pallets (coir pillows) CoirProducts coir pallets (coir pillows) are made by packing a layer of coir between two geotextiles. Pallets can hold in seeds firmly and offer a good environment for sprouting. They are useful for river bank protection, for establishing floating islands, and for trapping sediment. • Jute geotextiles CoirProducts jute geotextiles are a strong textilegrade lingo-cellulosic fibre. They have low elongation at breaking point and high moisture content.

Grassroof® is an overlay paving system that can be applied to new or existing flat roof structures. It can be used as an extensive or simple-intensive paving layer, or as a base layer for intensive roof designs. When installed, Grassroof® weighs as little as 4.39kg/m2 for extensive roofs.

Installation Grassroof® units interlock together and can be laid either directly onto the roof membrane, or via a foil-backed polystyrene underlay where the roof membrane might be susceptible to indentations. Grassroof®, with its simple “leave and lay” format, incorporates sedum turf; no soil is required and these succulent plants are able to store moisture. A key element in simplifying installation is the use of a Regarm moisture retaining blanket, comprising 100% recycled shredded garment waste bonded to a woven fabric layer. The specification of Regarm will enable the omission of a soil layer, reducing the volume of heavy bulk materials during installation.

TechWall for coastal waterfront, built underwater

Reinforced Earth Company manufactures the TechWall and T-Wall precast concrete retaining wall systems. • TechWall retaining walls TechWall is a site-specific engineered precast concrete counterfort retaining wall system. Full-height precast facing units are manufactured up to 18m tall and delivered to sites complete with pre-attached perpendicular counterforts. The integrated counterforts are jointed onsite to a structural concrete footing which then forms a highly efficient and robust cantilever retaining wall. TechWall is an aesthetic, low carbon solution with a 120-year design life. The panels can be rapidly and safely installed in all weathers, even underwater and with no scaffolding required. A wide range of backfills is possible. • T-Wall modular retaining walls T-Wall is a modular gravity retaining wall solution manufactured from precast concrete. Suitable for walls, embankments, access ramps, shored walls and bridge abutments, T-Wall is constructed by combining structurally reinforced concrete units with engineered backfill. Monolithic concrete units are cast with perpendicular stems attached to a generally rectangular or square facing that together forms the shape of a ‘T’. T-Wall is quick and easy to install with no mechanical connections needed. It is stackable with variable length stems, and enables a reduction in backfill. Key features of T-Wall: - Custom engineered to provide best fit solutions, with a surface area of 3.3m2. - Can be battered up to 1:6. - Can be inverted to reduce base width. - Heights up to 25m and a 120-year design life. - Low carbon solution; EPD certified. - Utilities and piling are easily accommodated. - Can be installed directly into water. - Suitable for temporary structures; can be uninstalled and re-used. - Continuous vertical slip joints accommodate differential settlement.

Typical applications include: steepened slopes, geocomposite retaining walls, gravity walls and multi-layered channel systems. They can be designed for various requirements, including a wide range of infill, backfill, groundwater and surcharge conditions. Geoweb® is easy for contractors to use on site. The sections are compact, and are lighter and easier to handle on site compared with concrete block retaining wall systems. They are also suitable for difficult-to-access or remote locations. This speeds up installation and reduces worker down-time. Geoweb® enables the use of on-site materials to be used for infill, which also saves construction costs. • Envirolok® vegetated environmental bags Envirolok® is an ecologically advanced, vegetated bag system that provides immediate stabilisation and permanent erosion control. It can be used in water or on dry sites, including bioengineered shoreline protection schemes and retaining walls. The bags contain structural soils, which are connected with spikes. Envirolok® allows for near-vertical construction that can be contoured to the existing non-loadbearing soils with the flexibility to adapt, unlike hard armoured systems.

Hydroseeding on to erosion control blanket

Specialists in hydroseeding with over 50 years’ experience, RMB Hydroseeding has undertaken a wide range of projects across the UK and Ireland, from road and railway to land reclamation and major civil engineering schemes.

Composition and manufacture Hydroseeding is the process of spraying a specially mixed slurry comprising of water, seed, woodfibre, fertiliser and eco-friendly binder in a single application. Hydroseeding is used when either the area is too large, inaccessible, or unsuitable for other conventional seeding methods.

Areas of expertise For embankments prone to erosion, RMB Hydroseeding uses tried and tested soft engineering solutions. These range from highperformance hydromulch that helps bind seed with the slope surface, to Soft Armour systems that incorporate both high-performance hydromulch and turf reinforcement matting for even higher levels of erosions control. • Biotic soil amendments Spray-applied prior to hydroseeding, biotic soil amendments are designed to build soil conditions that improve the rate of seed germination and plant growth, eliminating the need for importing expensive topsoil. Healthy soil is imperative for the establishment and support of plant growth. On many sites soil left for re-vegetation is often severely degraded, lacking many of the essential organic, nutrient and microbial properties needed to establish growth. Specially blended soil amendments made from organic materials, micronutrients and active mycorrhizal inoculants help soil come alive so that vegetation can thrive evenly on areas with very little or extremely poor soil. This reduces the need for extensive and long-term erosion control measures. • Wildflower and tree and shrub seed In addition to grass, hydroseeding can also be undertaken using wildflower, sedum and even tree and shrub seed to create natural habitats for wildlife.
