MAYOR’S MESSAGE

Welcome to the fall 2024 edition of our Parks and Recreation Active Living Guide.

This guide will help you find out more about our high-quality programs. You’ll love what we have planned!

Before getting too far ahead, I’d like to reflect on our wonderful summer and thank all those who came out to celebrate, volunteered and who shared their energy and enthusiasm at one or all of our many events. Your community participation is what makes an ordinary event extraordinary.

This year’s Buccaneer Days, for example, had another successful weekend full of community spirit and volunteerism. What a great way to celebrate our community and share it with the region! We hope you enjoyed the parade, the Midway and Marketplace as much as we did.

Successful events like the Esquimalt Farmer’s Market, the 2024 Neighborhood Party, Urban Arts Tour, and the multiple TCAC events like Music in the Park and Mad Hatter Tea Party, are other opportunities to bring our community together. It is a pretty great thing to be able to take time out of a busy week to sit back and enjoy the sunshine with your neighbours.

Of course, it’s not all events. I am continually impressed by the range and quality of programming that our Recreation staff put on season after season. There are some new choices for Small Group Personal Training as well as lots of great returning programs too. There really is something for everyone.

As we move into the next few months, we can continue to look forward to well-loved events like Ribfest returning. The always popular Fire Hall Halloween Spooktacular at the Fire Hall is a delight for both children and their families. Heading into winter with the transformation of the Recreation Centre and Archie Browning Sports Centre into a holiday wonderland, teeming with twinkling lights and delightful decorations is a must see as well.

With so many things that will be happening this season, we encourage you and your family to take advantage of everything Esquimalt has to offer! You won’t be bored!

On behalf of Council, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the wealth of opportunities and activities available through our Parks and Recreation Department this summer!
