MAYOR’S MESSAGE Welcome to the Winter / Spring 2024 edition of our Parks and Recreation Active Living Guide. This guide will help you find out more about our high-quality programs. You’ll love what we have planned for 2024! We are incredibly fortunate to have a wealth of leisure and recreational opportunities in Esquimalt. This season, our programs are primarily centered around promoting family fitness and engaging activities. We are pleased to offer a variety of Family Fitness classes that emphasize the advantages of increased physical activity for the entire family. Whether it’s Parent and Child Family Fitness, Family Fitness Circuit, or Parent and Baby Bootcamp, there is an option for every family member to participate in and enjoy an active lifestyle. Engaging in these diverse recreational opportunities enables you to forge meaningful connections within your community, which, in turn, brings numerous benefits to you and your family. I am always impressed by the range and quality of programming and events that our Recreation staff develop and support. We continue to be event central here in Esquimalt. I know everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Halloween Firehall Spooktacular, the Senior Appreciation Tea, the Holiday Celebration lunch and many more of our special events in Esquimalt.
With our winter weather, we tend to focus on indoor activities. Our registered fitness programs, learning a new skill or swimming or skating for leisure are all things that are recreation facilities excel at. We sometimes forget that with the mild climate here in Esquimalt, that we have so many outdoor activities that families can participate in over the winter and early spring. Just taking a neighbourhood stroll to enjoy the changing seasons is a great way to promote family fitness without feeling like it’s exercise. Esquimalt Recreation takes a holistic approach to promoting health and well-being, providing a diverse array of programs tailored to a broad spectrum of interests. Whether you’re enthusiastic about special events, activities, or specific programs, you’ll discover something to suit your preferences at our Recreation Centre, Sports Centre, and the Gorge Park Pavilion. It’s really all about family fun and well-being. On behalf of Council, I encourage you to explore our many wonderful parks and take advantage of our quality recreation facilities and their programming.

There’s more to karma than “what goes around, comes around”. How can we use a deeper understanding of karma to shape a life that nourishes meaningful relationships and builds optimism for the future? Most of us appreciate the good company of a person who finds the time to be patient with us, but how do we pay this forward?
