Estela Magazine 2017 4 | ESTELA

EDITOR’S NOTE

WINNING colors We made it through the event that was 2017. Through the downs, there were many ups and unforgettable iconic game changing, moves made in the name of inclusivity in beauty. During NYFW in September, many designers featured Black models to present their collections (an incredible step for runways that are often dominated by white models). Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty brand debuted and almost immediately sold out. Within hours, an industry priding itself on its monochrome patronage and neglect in women of color, suddenly had huge competition. Major beauty influencer and makeup artist Pat McGrath made great strides when she was named “The Most Influential Makeup Artist in the World” by Vogue and honored with the CFDA Founder’s Award. Her work has always and will continue to shake up the standards. Her brand comes at a time when true beauty lays in the inclusion of all women. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing the continued progression in the industry. PEACE +

ARITU

EDITOR’S PICKS NORABLOOM BOTANICALS

We brought back Norabloom for a second go after their rebrand and were thrilled to be met with all of the same luxurious ingredients and quality along with their fresh new look. The deep, aromas of flora and herbs calm the senses and transport us right to creator Holly Green’s New York spa. The skincare pro applies her philosophy that “every woman has a skin story” to her signature Self Care kits; five burlap bags complete with goodies customized for every skincare need and mood. OBSESSION: I feel like a new woman every time I use the Orange and Clove Body Polish. It feels good buffing it into my skin and reveals a silky, all over healthy glow. That, combined with the intoxicatng scent of the spice-infused sugar crystals are why we think think it earned its well deserved nomination from Indie Beauty Expo. 16 | ESTELA

Take a moment to lift your day by filling your environment with the scents of lavender, orange, patchouli and the other refreshing elements that make up Aritu. Their namesake mist spray and signature essential oil blend rejuvenates and releases tension from the day by targeting concerns on a spiritual level. They’re both multifunctional, working for the body and space to uplift and cleanse. This new brand on the block was created by model Tierra Benton as an antidote to the toxins in mainstream beauty products. She handcrafts and blends each product with the sole mission to “nurture the sacred beauty” of people of color. We were sold on the mission alone, being appreciators of indie brands that go beyond simply selling a product. OBSESSION: I predict Aritumist will become a travel favorite this summer; you’ll want to take the cool and calming vibes in this bottle wherever you go.

ESTELI BODY

OBSESSION: This hydrating face mist was created to reflect the lush botanical nature of Nicaragua and the bounty of fruits and flora that grow there. Creator Amanda Greene sought inspiration from her mother’s homeland to formulate a cleaner, natural alternative to the toxins in commercial face mists. Her Coco Rosa spray with rosehip, hibiscus, and coconut water awakens, treats, and adds a boost of moisture for an enhanced glow. Bonus, it’s the perfect ending to your makeup routine, working as a great setting spray.

CLOVERDALE ORGANICS

Cloverdale has taken one of our personal favorite age old ingredients, shea, and brought it to the next level with this liquid gold. This serum serves as the perfect toner, moisturizer, and primer for beauty buffs who desire a more natural daily base. It’s light enough to wear alone and underneath makeup, working throughout the day to maintain a healthy glow inside and out.

SMITH’S ROSEBUD

Your best friend in winter. This soothing balm is a lip savior, providing therapy and moisture for the dry season. Smith’s is a veteran in the business of balm and understands that during the cold months, our lips need a little extra, heavy duty love. One drop goes a long way and the tube itself lasts months. We love using it as a base to liquid lipsticks.
