Craig joined us from Outwood Academy Redcar and completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Personal Training for Health, Fitness and Sport Performance. He is now completing a sports teaching apprenticeship at a local leisure centre.

PUBLIC SERVICES Chloe joined us from Sacred Heart Academy and completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services. She is now studying for a degree in criminology at York St John University.

Specialist equipment We have a range of specialist equipment available for learners including specialist software such as Dragon Naturally Speaking and Read and Write Gold. Students can also be provided with dictaphones, magnifiers as well as specialist keyboards and laptops.

Transition into college life We can arrange taster sessions so you can experience a course session of your choice and decide if it is right for you. We can also provide support during your college interview. Transition sessions can be arranged to meet course tutors, learning support staff and allow you to familiarise yourself with the building. English and maths are key skills which are used every day. Here at Redcar & Cleveland College we understand the importance of these skills and how much employers value them within the workplace. When enrolling at college, if you have not already achieved a grade 9-4/A*-C or a level 2 equivalent qualification in English and maths, we will help you to work towards these vital qualifications and develop your skills alongside your full-time course. QUALIFICATIONS We offer a range of vocational courses from entry level 1 through to level 3. The level of course you study will depend on your previous qualifications and achievements. Qualifications are offered by different examination boards at different levels, which represent a standard of learning. Qualifications at the same level are broadly comparable but content, purpose, duration and amount of study may vary.

Entry level

Level 1

Entry level courses offer a basic understanding of a subject area, help you to enhance your career prospects and improve your English and maths skills. You do not require any formal qualifications for these courses but will be required to attend an interview with a course tutor.*

Level 1 courses are practical and prepare you with skills for a specific career. You will gain a wide range of background knowledge in your chosen subject. If you have not achieved a GCSE grade 4/C in English or maths you will study for these qualifications alongside your course. You will typically require 4 GCSEs grade 2/E or an entry level qualification in a related course to enrol onto a level 1 course.*

Paying for your course fees If you are under the age of 19 at the start of your course there should be no fees to pay. If you are aged 19 or above speak to our Admissions Team about fees, repayment and student loan opportunities.

Level 3

Level 2 courses provide you with the skills you need for a specific career. You will start to specialise in the areas you find interesting, but are still broad enough to give you a wide range of progression opportunities if you are not sure what you would like to do in the future. You will typically require 4 GCSEs grade 3/D or a level 1 qualification in a related course to enrol onto a level 2 course.* Courses with high practical content may require you to start at level 1 as you will need to build skills during these courses.

Level 3 courses offer you specialised and advanced learning which give you the skills and knowledge to progress directly into employment or university level courses on completion. These courses will also include a work experience placement to prepare you for employment. You will typically require 4 GCSEs grade 4/C or a level 2 qualification in a related course to enrol onto a level 3 course.* Courses with high practical content may require you to start at level 1 as you will need to build skills during these courses.

Our Level 2 course will cover the roles and responsibilities of the early year’s practitioner, promoting play in the early year’s setting and understanding how to support a child’s development. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills in our specialist craft room, baby rooms and nursery dedicated for our childcare students. WHAT’S NEXT? Once you have completed this course you could further your studies by progressing onto our Level 3 Extended Diploma in Childcare or learn in a workplace setting by securing an apprenticeship.

LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA IN CHILDCARE COURSE LENGTH: 2 years WHAT GRADES DO I NEED? 4 GCSEs grade 4/C or above including English and maths or a level 2 qualification in a related course. WHAT WILL I LEARN? Our level 2 course is very hands-on with learning and practising taking place within our large open plan workshops. You will learn how to construct stud walls, door and window frames, skirting boards and kitchens using a range of hand and power tools.

THE MARK PROCTOR FOOTBALL ACADEMY IN PARTNERSHIP WITH REDCAR & CLEVELAND COLLEGE, OFFERS YOU THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN, TRAIN AND PLAY FOOTBALL LIKE A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALLER. Within our Football Academy you will study for one of our sport studies or personal training qualifications, receive 6 hours expert coaching from UEFA pro-licence coaches, play competitive football matches and tournaments. You will also work on an individual basis with our Academy team who will provide strength and conditioning sessions, dietary advice and plans, personal training and a free gym membership*.

MEET THE COACH MARK PROCTOR With over 40 years’ experience of playing and coaching professional football, Head Coach, Mark Proctor will support you at every stage during your time with our Academy.

Mark’s playing career included playing for Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, so you will be learning your footballing skills from one of the best.

WHAT WILL I LEARN? This course will really help your career take off. You will cover customer service skills, the business behind travel and tourism, researching holiday destinations and building a working knowledge of the world around you. Sessions will be delivered through group and individual study, guest speakers and research.

WHAT WILL I LEARN? Our level 3 course will support you in developing your knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industry. You will learn a wide range of mandatory units which can be combined with optional units such as working overseas. During the course you will be given the opportunity to gain work experience to help boost your skill set.

On this exciting course you will learn about baggage processing, check-in, dispatch, health and safety, aircraft marshalling and security. On completion of this course you could complete a level 3 course in aviation, look to secure an apprenticeship or enter employment.

If English isn’t your first language, we can help you develop your spoken, reading and written skills. You will also make new friends, build your communication skills for everyday use, studying and getting a job. You will also have the opportunity to take part in our enrichment programme, enjoy vocational course sessions and have weekly tutorials with your course tutor and classmates.

COURSE LENGTH: 1 year ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Photo ID, proof of residence status in the UK/EU and any previous ESOL certificates WHAT WILL I LEARN? During this course you will learn how to use English for your everyday life and develop study skills. You will study speaking and listening, reading and writing. You will also work towards a Functional Skills/GCSE Maths qualification. Your course will include vocational course sessions, enrichment, work placements as well as weekly tutorials. WHAT’S NEXT? On completion of your ESOL qualification you can choose to progress through our ESOL courses to further develop your skills or study one of our vocational courses.

This 12-week course offers you the opportunity to get involved in an action-packed residential, a rewarding community project, an informative work placement, a fun team challenge and more. You will be supported throughout the programme by a dedicated team leader. This course is completely free, all travel expenses are refunded, and existing benefits will not be affected. You will gain a Prince’s Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills. WHAT’S NEXT? If you feel you are ready to start work then an apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. Apprenticeships can be a great alternative to a full-time course, which could be ideal for those who prefer a more hands on, practical route to learning. You will earn a salary whilst gaining real life work experience, developing knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes in your chosen sector. Apprentices typically spend four days a week with their employer and one day a week studying their chosen subject with us at the College.
