Pre Access to Higher Education

Course Type: Blended learning

Length: 4 days

Entry Requirements: There are no entry requirements for the level 2 course yet there may be the need to sit a BKSB screening test to show what maths and English levels you are currently working at. A tutor will discuss with you your options after this screening.

Location:

Within the College this level 2 qualification is highly regarded as an excellent stepping stone for those wanting to enter the Access to Higher Education route into university. The Level 2 Qualification in skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development is also labelled as Pre-Access due to its success rate in helping those who have struggled with the initial maths and English screening tests for their desired Access choices.

WHAT WILL YOU DO: Using Calculations

The numeracy element of the course is based on developing understanding of numbers and data. The unit also focusses on being able to identify maths in real life situations.

Personal Career Preparation

The careers element of the course draws focus on personal progression, how you learn and what types of careers are available for those after Access and university.

Punctuation and Grammar Skills

The English element of the course is motivated by developing understanding of punctuation and grammar. The work involved helps essay development as well as creating a personal statement.

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

The course includes the production of an electronic portfolio of evidence to show your newly developed skills. There are various methods of assessment such as production of a presentation, report, individual research and homework.

WHAT’S NEXT?

The course enables students to have confidence as they progress onto Access to HE and university. Currently at Stockton Riverside College and Redcar and Cleveland College we have various Access routes such as Health, Education, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences and Social Care.
