Course Type: Access to Higher Education Diploma

Length: 1 year, part-time

Entry Requirements: All learners will be considered on their individual merits although recent relevant learning at level 2 is advantageous. All applicants will participate in an interview process. Following this you may be asked to complete a literacy and numeracy test to determine if a place can be offered.

Location:

The Access to Higher Education, Science Diploma, is a qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course could be for you. There is no upperage limit for Access to HE courses.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The diploma is made up of a series of level 2 units which are subjects that will include Maths and English Skills for Higher Education. This then leads onto a series of graded units at level 3 in biology, chemistry, physics, immunopathology, maths and a scientific project.

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

The production of an electronic portfolio of evidence is crucial. Assessment involves the writing of essays, reports, examinations, research and practical activities.

WHAT’S NEXT?

On successful completion of the access diploma students can apply to university for a place on a range of health and sciencerelated degrees or other higher education degree programmes. These include midwifery, physiotherapy, pharmacy, chemistry, biology, nutrition and radiography.
