How to apply

Course Type: BA (Hons)

Length: 1/2 year, part-time

Entry Requirements: For direct entry into the level 6 modules, entrants will be expected to have attained a foundation degree or equivalent credits (120 at level 4 and 120 at level 5) in a relevant and appropriate educational area. These entrants will follow a one-year programme.

Applicants who do not already have the level 5 credits but do have an appropriate teaching qualification at level 4 (worth 120 HE credits) such as a Certificate in Education: Education and Training or relevant equivalent, will enter at level 5 and follow a two-year programme. RPL and APEL will be considered via individual application.

Location:

The programme aims to help lecturers, mentors, teaching assistants and other workers in education develop their knowledge of educational practice and reflect on strategies for developing their professional practice.

Applicants must be in paid or unpaid employment in an educational practice for at least two to five hours per week.

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

The programme will be assessed through course work. This will include essays, reports, case studies, research project and research critique.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Successful graduates may progress into a graduate teacher programme for teaching in primary, secondary or post-compulsory education or training settings. Graduates may also practice in a range of lifelong learning educational settings, such as FE colleges.

Teaching in Education and Training (In Service)

Course Type: Certificate in Education (Cert Ed)

Length: 2 years, part-time

Entry Requirements:

For the Cert Ed you will need:

> Minimum level 3 in your chosen specialist route

> English at level 2 (GCSE or equivalent)

> Hold a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate

> Confirmation of 100 teaching hours (40 hours for year 1 and 60 hours for year 2)

> Confirmation of a mentor in your workplace

Location:

This programme is designed for lecturers, teachers and trainers who are working full/ part-time or voluntarily in the post-compulsory education and training sector.

This includes further education, higher education and adult education, private trainers and large organisations with their own training department.

> Evidence Informed Learning and Teaching

> Developing Learning and Teaching

> Thinking and Learning in Teaching

> Enhancing Learning and Teaching

HOW AM I ASSESSED?

> Academic Assignments

> Eight teaching practice observations

> A reflective teaching practice portfolio

WHAT’S NEXT?

After successful completion of this course you can progress onto the BA (Hons) Education and Training Degree programme. This course is a continuing professional development award for teachers, working in the Lifelong Learning Sector. Completion of this qualification can contribute to progression on to the Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status (QTLS) programme.

Teaching in Education and Training (In Service)

Course Type: Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

Length: 2 years, part-time

Entry Requirements:

For the PGCE you will need:

> A degree (2nd Class or above)

> English at level 2 (GCSE or equivalent)

> Hold a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service certificate

> Confirmation of 100 teaching hours (40 hours for year 1 and 60 hours for year 2)
