The exhibition BIGlights shows examples of some of the lights which are “big”, figuratively speaking, on account of their contribution to the idea of the product in this field and its materialisation through the object. They share in common their simplicity and the uniqueness of the solutions they propose, as well as their way of interpreting the value of light. The exhibition presents three categories. First we find the scientific foundations of the physics of light and of the technical development towards more sustainable power consumption, as well as the research in the field of environmental psychology about the effects of lighting on learning. The second group is a selection of luminaries of different designers, which includes iconic examples that are the result of unique projects. As a conceptual counterpoint, three projects have been included: two of them for their contribution to sustainability through design and the third because it turns light into a vehicle for knowledge.
