About the Coach The owner of nearly three decades of coaching experience at the collegiate level, Chip Wilde is entering his 14th season as head coach of the Eureka men’s basketball team in 2020-21. This campaign is Wilde’s 24th season as a collegiate basketball head coach.

Wilde has proved to be one of the most successful head coaches in the storied history of EC men’s basketball, establishing the Red Devils as a steady presence in the SLIAC. Wilde captured his 150th career victory in 2019-20 and ranks fourth in wins in the century-long history of the program. In 2018-19, Wilde guided Eureka to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in school history.

EUREKA – EUERKA – For the second time this spring, the Eureka men’s basketball team is taking on Cornell College in non-conference action. The Red Devils will host the Rams for their last non-conference matchup of the season on the schedule for 2021 inside Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Eureka is 4-2 on the season and 2-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play after back-to-back wins over conference foes Blackburn and Iowa Wesleyan last week. Last Wednesday, the Red Devils got it done on both ends of the court and seized a 74-57 victory over Blackburn to open SLIAC play. They held the Beavers under 35 percent shooting in a physical contest, and on the other end of the floor, the team found holes in the team’s 3-2 zone to lead by as many as 20 points. Then, on Saturday, Eureka held off Iowa Wesleyan for the second time this season, beating the Tigers 84-72 in SLIAC play. Eureka shot 47.5 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from distance and went 18-for-23 at the line.

On the season, Eureka is averaging 78 points per game while shooting 43.7 percent, 35.2 percent from 3-point range and 72.5 percent from the line. The maroon and gold is pulling down 37.5 boards per game and dishing out 11.2 assists per game.

Back-to-back SLIAC Player of the Week Ian Milsteadt is averaging a team-high 22.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from distance. Fellow star guard Chris Daniels is posting 18 points per game and leading the team with 2.8 assists per night, while sixth man J’Len Crawford is averaging 15 points per game for the past two games, giving EC another scoring option.

Junior point guard Jalen Hosea is contributing 6.7 points per game, shooting 50 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from outside while leading the team in minutes at 34 per game.

Senior big man Jaedon Banks adds 6.3 points per game, along with 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. The other starter, sophomore Charlie McKinty, recently scored a career-high nine points against Blackburn.

Coming off the bench, sophomore Andrew Gonzalez, junior transfer Jordan Brooks and freshman Lane Thompson have chipped in between 4-6 points per night apiece.

At 3-4, all of Cornell’s wins have come over SLIAC opponents. The Rams beat Iowa Wesleyan twice and Eureka once, 96-71 on March 1. In the win over the Red Devils, the Rams accumulated 54 points in the paint and held a decisive 51-33 rebounding advantage. The team’s 6-foot-9 center Logan Sharp recorded a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Jordan Magnani scored a team-high 23 points and recorded eight assists without committing a turnover.

Cooper Kabela has been the team’s leading scorer with 18.6 points per game. He’s followed by Marcus Quirk and Magnani at 15.4 and 15.1, respectively. Quirk leads the team with 10.7 boards per game.
