About the Coach The owner of nearly three decades of coaching experience at the collegiate level, Chip Wilde is entering his 14th season as head coach of the Eureka men’s basketball team in 2020-21. This campaign is Wilde’s 24th season as a collegiate basketball head coach.

Wilde has proved to be one of the most successful head coaches in the storied history of EC men’s basketball, establishing the Red Devils as a steady presence in the SLIAC. Wilde captured his 150th career victory in 2019-20 and ranks fourth in wins in the century-long history of the program. In 2018-19, Wilde guided Eureka to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time in school history.

EUREKA – After three tough non-conference tests on the road, the Eureka men’s basketball team is back home to defend Dave Darnall Court.

The Red Devils will open St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday against Blackburn inside Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center at 7:30 p.m.

Eureka has faced a challenging non-conference slate over the past week and a half. After besting Iowa Wesleyan 85-78 in the season opener, the Red Devils went on the road to take on SLIAC preseason No. 1 Fontbonne last Tuesday and came away with a hard-earned 86-80 victory to improve to 2-0.

The team then went down to Illinois College and lost by eight to the Blueboys, 76-78, last Thursday, and dropped a 96-71 game at Cornell College on Monday.

Eureka is averaging 77.5 points per game while shooting 41.2 percent from the field, 30 percent from distance and 69 percent from the freethrow line. The Red Devils are pulling down 36 rebounds per game and dishing out 11 assists per game.

TEAM COMPARISON

Senior guards Chris Daniels and Ian Milsteadt have been the Red Devils’ top scorers, averaging 21.3 and 21 points, respectively.

They’ve also both captured SLIAC Player of the Week honors.

Daniels is shooting 45.7 percent from the field and distributing 3.3 assists per game.

Milsteadt is shooting 46.2 percent from the floor and 44.4 percent from beyond the arc.

He is also leading the team in rebounds per game with 7.5 per night.

Junior point guard Jalen Hosea is contributing eight points per game, shooting 54.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from outside while leading the team in minutes at 33.5 per game. Senior big man Jaedon Banks adds seven points per game, along with six rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.

Coming off the bench, junior transfer Jordan Brooks, freshman Lane Thompson and sophomore Andrew Gonzalez have chipped in between 4-6 points per night apiece.

Blackburn is 1-0 on the season and in SLIAC play. The Beavers opened the year with an 81-61 home win over Iowa Wesleyan over the weekend.

The home team shot 45.5 percent from the field (30-66), made 11 of 33 3-point attempts and put away 10 of 14 free-throw attempts.

The Beavers also outrebounded the Tigers 37-30, distributed 19 assists to IWU’s 13 and forced 22 turnovers while only giving it away 11 times. Blackburn also got 27 points from its bench on the day.

The Red Devils are 42-21 against Blackburn in the teams’ all-time series and own a 23-7 advantage at home. Eureka has split with the Beavers the past four seasons.
