September 9, 2019 2019 AIA Nevada Distinguished Service Jury AIA Nevada 1131 South Casino Center Blvd Las Vegas NV 89104 RE: Nomination of EV&A Architects for 2019 AIA Nevada Architecture Firm Award Dear Chair and Members of the 2019 AIA Nevada Distinguished Service Awards Jury, I am pleased to nominate EV&A Architects for the 2019 AIA Nevada Architecture Firm Award. This Las Vegas firm represents, with stature and skill, every attribute that we seek to advance in practice: excellence in design, unparalleled devotion to client and context, respect for our professional community, dedicated service to the Institute and an incredibly positive model for the value of architects and architecture in our communities. EV&A’s portfolio of commercial, hospitality and healthcare projects demonstrates the ability of modern design to respond to program and context. From the iconic Dynasty Hotel and Casino on Flamingo Boulevard to the vernacular interpretation of the Magnolia Bluffs Casino, from the strikingly welcoming LL Bradford Ambulatory Surgery Center to the forward-looking VA Community Living Center, and in the incredible range of their work, EV&A demonstrates fluidity in design thinking and passion for beauty. Garnering thirty-eight project design awards to date, their impact on the skyline and streetscape of our state and beyond is without question. Equally impressive is EV&A’s ‘on the boards’ portfolio. Their expansion of the World Market Center, with its over 1.3 million square feet of showroom space, welcomes the international furniture industry with dynamic and vibrant architecture. EV&A’s donation of pro bono services to Opportunity Village, UNLV's Center for Autism, and St. Jude's Ranch brings this high caliber of professional service and expertise to organizations typically low on resources for design projects. The firm has actively supported the service of its founder, Edward A. Vance, FAIA, as the 2019 Chancellor of the AIA’s College of Fellows—the first Chancellor from our State and second from our WMR region. Ed's tenure as Chancellor is the culmination of decades of AIA service beginning locally and extending nationally. His leadership was critical to AIA Nevada’s AIA 150 initiative, Envisioning Nevada's Future, resulting to alliances between AIA NV and the State legislature on strategies for economic diversification at a time when we needed it most. Ed also volunteers his time and firm resources as a force for bringing transparency and consistency to AIA award systems and leadership practices. EV&A’s principals and professionals volunteered for the A'19 Conference Tours of World Market Center, Bicycling Tour for Downtown and the Lou Ruvo Brain Institute. Firm personnel also support and advance the AIAS LV mentorship program and high school design competition while mentoring countless students and emerging professionals in practice and through community engagement. The Firm Award is one of the most significant awards AIA Nevada Chapter bestows—an honor reserved for firms with a sustained portfolio of distinguished architecture and persistent commitment to professional and community service. EV&A represents all these things and extends awareness of Nevada’s unparalleled professional talent and influence beyond our state’s borders. For all these reasons, I nominate EV&A for the 2019 AIA Nevada Architecture Firm Award. Sincerely,
Jonathan Sparer, FAIA Past President, AIA Nevada 2017 President, AIA Las Vegas WMR Pettigrew Legacy Fellow Nevada Silver Medal 2017 Co-Chair AIA Las Vegas A’19 Conference The American Institute of Architects AIA Nevada | AIA Las Vegas 1131 South Casino Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89104

Premiere Gaming
Magnolia Bluffs Natchez, Mississippi
Size 40,000 SF
Cost $25 MM
Sited just below the historic Roth Hill in Natchez MS, Magnolia Bluffs Casino was built over the Mississippi River to comply with State’s strict gaming regulations. The project is supported on nearly fifty steel piles giving patrons the feeling that they are floating on the river providing a real connection to the site often overlooked in typical casino designs. Utilizing locally produced materials and taking cues from the local vernaculars in the area, the design team collaborated with the Natchez Historical Society to recreate an early 20th century cedar mill that had been locat-
ed here nearly a century before. A municipal pedestrian river walk winds itself around the building’s riverside perimeter providing access to the casino’s “Back-Porch” amenities complete with fire pits and stunning views of the Mississippi and her majestic sunsets. Supplanting this project within an established and historically recognized neighborhood was an intricate process. The design team worked closey with the Natchez historical commission, held public workshops, and facilitated open houses throughout the design process.

October 2019 AIA Nevada Honor Awards Jury C/o AIA Nevada 1131 S Casino Center Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89104
Dear AIA Jury, I am both pleased and honored to support the nomination of EV&A Architects for the Nevada Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Firm Award. EV&A Architects has 13 years of continuous practice and has transformed the commercial and hospitality markets in the state of Nevada. The firm is known for elegant and sophisticated design solutions that improve communities and promote a more sustainable business environment. Some of the more recent projects include the UNLV Technology Park, the International Market Center Expo and the new Building D totaling approximately 1.5 million square feet, and multiple campuses for the Howard Hughes Corporation. Because of the design excellence exhibited by EV&A Architects they were awarded NAIOP’s Architecture firm of the Year for 2018. EV&A Architects, importantly, is not just a firm that focuses solely on architectural design. They are immersed in service to the institute. There are few architects in the community more committed to the promotion of the students and developing designers and architects than Edward Vance, FAIA. The passion and great designers and architects at EV&A allow Ed Vance to serve the AIA on a national level. The firm’s culture and practice provide the solid foundation for him and others to give of their time, expertise, and energy to further the mission of the organization. Ed has served nationally for the AIA as the College of Fellows Secretary in 2017, Vice-Chancellor in 2018 and Chancellor in 2019. He is the 57th Chancellor of that august body of architects – most importantly he is the first from Nevada. Ed also supports the AIAS chapter at UNLV by holding annual sketch classes to help students develop skills and abilities that they will need to be successful designers and architects. Edward Vance, FAIA has shown that he is the embodiment of the best things that make up the AIA. He founded his firm on and leads them by principles of service to the institute and their community. In turn, EV&A Architects give generously to other groups including the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Opportunity Village, St. Jude’s Ranch for children and multiple other charitable organizations. They have evidenced that they understand the critical nature of strong communities. I believe EV&A Architects is led by an architect and gentleman of the highest character; in turn the firm exemplifies the finest attributes of the AIA, and for these reasons deserves to be recognized with the 2019 AIA Nevada Firm Award. I acclaim this nomination as one that is long overdue and well deserved. Sincerely,

2019 AJA Nevada Architecture Firm Award - EV&A ArchitectsNominee
To Whom It May Concern: In August 2016, Gardner Company was retained by the UNLV Research Foundation as the Master Developer for the 120 acre UNLV Harry Reid Research & Technology Park in Clark County, N evada. As a SaltLake City based development firm, we recognized the need for expect local architectural support for the project. Accordingly, we interviewed and accepted proposals from severalLas Vegas based firms. EV&A Architects rose to the top in that competitive process. EV&A was selected based upon their remarkable expertise in designing Class A office projects. We started working with EV&A in January of 2017. The specific project is the Innovation Building #1 at the UNLV Tech Park. This is a four (4) story office building on the comer of Sunset Road and Jim Rogers Way. The building contains approximately 111,000 BOMA rentable square feet. The construction is underway with occupancy in October of 2019. EV&A Architects is a very impressive firm. We have obviously worked with many different architectural firms. With EV&A, we have an architectural fom that is professional, skilled, knowledgeable and very comfortable to work with. They have been on time and on budget. The building design is outstanding. They are assisting us with the Tenm1t Finish design for building occupants. EV&A is professional in every way. EV&A Architects has our complete recommendation, without any reservation. We look forward to working with them on many other projects in the UNLV Tech Park. With warmest regards,

AIA Nevada Distinguished Service Jury c/o AIA Nevada 1131 S. Casino Center Blvd. Las Vegas, NV 89104
October 2, 2019
Dear AIA Nevada Jury Members, As Executive Director of both the AIA Las Vegas and AIA Nevada Chapters of the American Institute of Architects for the past twenty-five years, I am honored to support the nomination EV&A Architects for the 2019 AIA Nevada Firm Award. The culture of any successful architecture firm depends upon the principal and the values and leadership he or she provides for that firm. Edward A. Vance, FAIA established EV&A Architects in 2006, and through vision, dedication and a profound love of the profession has directed its course to become recognized as an exemplary firm throughout the country. With a unified commitment to creating quality projects for their clients, supporting and advancing the profession of architecture, reinforcing and promoting the importance of the AIA on the local, state, regional and national levels, and joining with civic leaders and organizations to build stronger more resilient communities in Nevada, EV&A has become an exceptional example of a great architecture firm. Grounded in the profession and in service to the AIA, EV&A supports and encourages staff members to take an active role on all levels of the Institute, and to assist in this the firm pays all AIA dues on their behalf. Consequently, the firm is one of the most dependable resources for volunteers and committee members for providing AIA programs and events. As one example, when the Las Vegas Chapter hosted the A’19 Conference on Architecture earlier this year, it was the staff of EV&A who stepped up and volunteered to provide tour coordination and tour hosting services, and to provide a recognition and gratitude celebration for all volunteers and staff following the conference. EV&A also takes an active role in mentoring and supporting the UNLV School of Architecture and the AIAS Chapter members. In addition EV&A provides a pathway to licensure for interns in their firm by providing educational programs, advising and reimbursement of examination costs. EV&A’s work, as a collaborative design team has resulted in numerous recognitions and design awards from industry leaders and organizations. Their portfolio is impressive with award winning projects in commercial, hospitality, entertainment and healthcare projects. Further, the firm’s commitment to protecting and elevating the profession of architecture is documented by the number and the quality of leaders they have provided in support of the profession through the local and state Chapters of the AIA, and through their active encouragement of community outreach with organizations such as Opportunity Village, UNLV Center for Autism, Shade Tree Shelter, Back to School Support for Kids, and many others. Edward A. Vance, FAIA is a model architect who has created an exemplary architecture firm that inspires not only the members of that firm, but also the members of the AIA Las Vegas architectural community. It is for these reasons that EV&A was nominated and certainly deserves to be recognized. I hope you will agree and honor their exceptional contributions with the 2019 AIA Nevada Architecture Firm Award. Yours truly,
