UMC | E.D. Expansion
Project Information
The UMC emergency department serves more than 120,000 patients each year in dedicated areas for adults and children. The emergency department observation and fast-track unit offers an acute level of care; patients are here for less than 24 hours before either being sent home or admitted to the hospital.
Design of the remodel carefully considered the project challenges inherent to the existing structure, including the lack of daylight and outdated finishes. The design created an open space layout with an updated aesthetic that provides a sense of warmth, calmness and serenity in an environment that might typically be a cause for anxiety.

Summerlin Hospital Expansion
Project Information
Located in the master planned community of Summerlin in Las Vegas, Universal Health Services (formerly United Health Services) commissioned JMA to expand the existing Summerlin Hospital Medical Center completed in early 1990’s. The project consisted of a three floor vertical expansion to the top of an existing three story wing.
The added services included an expansion of the O.B. Department, Pediatric ICU, and Medical/Surgical rooms and ICU beds. One of the hardest construction challenges for this project was constructing over the existing third floor ICU department.

St. Rose ER Expansion
Project Information
Located in Henderson on the existing St, Rose de Lima campus, the project program required an addition to the existing ER to include 13 new beds. Composing a design to the existing Emergency Department for St. Rose de Lima Hospital proved to be a challenge. Considerations for the existing site conditions and heliport were integral to this project.
A circular design solution for the addition solved the site issues. Creating a round, centralized nurse station that allows for unobstructed views to all of the patient areas. The admitting and fast track patient areas are located in the renovated existing area of the department.

The VA requested from the design team a solution that looks to the future and does not pin the facility into an inefficient mode of operation. Modularity and flexibility define healthcare into the next century and this facility responds.
The design team developed an overall design that utilizes the VA Building System, using a very modular approach to present an extremely forward-thinking hospital. The RTKL + JMA joint venture felt this design would set the standard for future medical facilities.
