Project Information

Nestled just below the historic Roth Hill in Natchez, Mississippi, Magnolia Bluffs Casino is a one-of-akind gaming destination that seamlessly blends history, nature, and design. Perched over the mighty Mississippi River to comply with the state’s strict gaming regulations, the casino is ingeniously supported by nearly fifty steel piles, creating the captivating sensation of floating above the river. This design not only connects patrons to the iconic waterway but also celebrates the site’s natural beauty, offering a unique and immersive experience rarely seen in typical casino developments.

The architectural design pays homage to the area’s rich history and character. Using rustic materials and drawing inspiration from the local vernacular, the design team partnered closely with the Natchez Historical Society to recreate the charm of an early 20th-century cedar mill that once stood on this very site. Every detail of the casino reflects a deep respect for the region’s heritage, from its weathered wood aesthetic to its authentic craftsmanship. This thoughtful approach ensures that the property not only stands out but also becomes an integral part of Natchez’s historic narrative.

Adding to its charm, a municipal pedestrian river walk winds gracefully around the riverside perimeter, offering guests access to the casino’s inviting “Back-Porch” amenities. This outdoor space features a cozy fire pit and breathtaking, unobstructed views of the Mississippi River, providing the perfect spot to enjoy the grandeur of the region’s famed sunsets. Convention Center Expansion

Project Information

In 2008, the Las Vegas Convention Center was poised for a transformative $250 million expansion, a project designed to address the growing demand for additional meeting space while elevating the building’s architectural presence. This ambitious 500,000-square-foot endeavor, crafted in collaboration with the esteemed HNTB Architects, was to include 145,000 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting space and an impressive 100,000-square-foot ballroom, setting a new standard for large-scale events in Las Vegas. The expansion aimed to further solidify the Convention Center’s reputation as a premier destination for global conventions and gatherings.

Key highlights of the project included the creation of a dramatic, light-filled lobby running the length of the South Hall and a grand concourse designed to seamlessly integrate the Center’s three expansive halls. A striking signature front façade was envisioned to redefine the exterior of the building, offering a modern, iconic design befitting the Convention Center’s prominence on the global stage. Additionally, an enclosed pedestrian connector was planned to link the Center to the adjacent Las Vegas Monorail station, ensuring convenient and efficient access for the millions of visitors that the venue hosts annually.

Although the project ultimately came to a halt before construction due to the economic challenges of the Great Recession, the vision behind this expansion showcased an ambitious effort to future-proof the Las Vegas Convention Center for generations to come. The proposed design was a testament to the innovative spirit of Las Vegas, blending functionality, aesthetic appeal, and visitor experience to create a world-class facility that could have redefined the convention landscape.
