Tips for Staying Active and Healthy in Summer. Now that summer holidays arrived, it’s the time many of us plan for vacations. Fear of intense summer heat may confine few to home though. Whatever may be the case, as summer heat is mounting up, it is the time to set up and follow few plans to stay healthy. Ascent of heat, constant sunlight, and overheat can scare us from going out and resist us from having fun in the sun, sensing to encounter some health issues. A Little exertion during the summer may cause sunburn, dehydration, fatigue and sunstroke, which may ruin your plans of vacation.

Lets discuss few steps that aid us to stay active, combat summer heat and help us to enjoy our vacation with ease and grace. Drink More Water: We all know, “Staying hydrated is good for health”, it is vital in summers. Due to intense heat, people experience a lot of perspiration or simply sweating which eliminates fluids and essential minerals from the body, resulting in dehydration. Water can refill the maximum extent of fluids and minerals that are lost. So, it is advised to drink at least 10 to 15 glasses of water during the summer. Avoid Sun Exposure: Though we all know sunlight is essential source for vitamin D, it is not safe during the peak hours of the day. We may need sun rays, but avoid exposure to


sunlight from 10 AM to 5 PM in the summer. During this time sun rays contain more percentage UV rays when compared to the early morning rays and are excessively hot which can cause skin burns, tanning and heat rashes. You may also become the victim of sunstroke, dehydration and fatigue. So, avoid the sun exposure to maximum extent, use umbrellas, goggles to stay protected. Eat on Time: Summer is not the right time to start crash diets. Delaying or skipping meals is not at all advisable during the summer, as it may cause fatigue. Plan your meals, eat food on regular timings, and avoid fried foods. Avoid too much spice in food as they may increase the body heat and cause acid reflux. Prefer Juices: Hot summer may tempt you to grab some chilled beverage in order to quench your thirst. Though it may serve the purpose temporarily, regular consumption is not advisable as it has no health promoting property, prefer chilled fruit juice or sugarcane juice instead. They will nourish your body and helps you to stay hydrated for long duration. Regular Workouts: People may think, it is better to stay away from physical work outs during the summer. But, it is an absolute myth. Though summer is not the ideal time to start heavy weight lifting exercises, continuing your daily workouts does not cause any problem. However, engaging in light exercises like walking or running is advisable in summer. Rest during the Day: As we observe long days during the summer, taking a nap during afternoon is recommended to refresh yourself. This will rejuvenate the normal functioning of your body and also peps up energy for the remaining day. Bathing and Swimming: Many of us know that summer is the perfect time to learn swimming. Hit the pools and learn to swim, if you already know swimming, enjoy it. Bathing/swimming refreshes your mind and would ease the tension in the mind. Get fresh Air: Walking around to get some fresh air helps a lot in summer, not in the noon though. Walk for a while in early mornings or late in the evenings in parks or places where you can get some fresh air. This relaxes you from tensions and also keeps you active.
