HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Kastoria is a mountain town and belongs to the prefecture of Kastoria. It is a city in northern Greece in the region of West Macedonia.
• The city was founded by Archelao the 1st or by Amida the 3rd to make the to
become the new Capital of the Macedonian state instead of Vergina.
Kastoria is believed to have ancient origins. Livy mentions a town near a lake in Orestis, called Celetrum, whose inhabitants surrendered to Sulpitius during the Roman war against Philip V of Macedon (200 BC). The ancient town was possibly located on a hill above the town's current location.
ATTRACTIONS Some attractions are very well known. • The Dragon’s Cave • Orestiada Lake The Dragon’s Cave is so beautifull because you enter a splendid spleen that has stalagmites and stalactites. Orestiada lake is home to a 200 different species, among them ,some rare and some endagered.
Population & Visitor Activities Population The real city population is 13.387 inhabitants.
Visitor Activities There are many realities that you can do in Kastoria. Some of them are the horseback riding and the canoeing.
