Makrinitsa Makrinitsa is a village located in the county of Magneisia which is part of the Thessaly region of Greece. It is one of the most characteristic traditional settlements, full of mansions and houses that look like hanging ornaments on the green mountain side. It is famous for its traditional houses that follow the regional architecture and astonishing and breath taking views. One of the traditional coffee houses is decorated with frescos by the famous Greek painter Theofilos. It is also the home of the Museum of Folk Art and History of Pelion. It is one of the most favourable towns to be visited by tourists in Greece.



History Makrinitsa was one of the villages that took the arms up against the Ottomans during the Greek revolution in 1821. Makrinitsa was the first one to join the revolution of Thessaly in 1878. In 1881 along with Thessaly, it was annexed to the newly formed state of Greece. During the postwar era, the tourist development started and flourishes until today.



Climate The climate is warm and temperate in Makrinitsa. The rain in Makrinitsa falls mostly in the winter, with relatively little rain in the summer. The climate here is classified as Mediterranean climate. The average annual temperature in Makrinitsa is 17.0 °C. In a year, the average rainfall is 491 mm.
