PARGA Parga is a city located in the northwestern part of Preveza in Epirus, northwestern Greece. The capital of the municipality is the village of Kanallaki. Parga is located on the Ionian coast between the cities of Preveza and Igoumenitsa.It is a city known for its natural beauty. 2


CLIMATE Parga has a mediterranean climate: mild small winter and hot summer.

1. THE CASTLE OF ALI PASHA Ali Pasha had besieged Parga many times but he didn't manage to conquer it. To serve this purpose he built a castle on a hill in Anthousa, a village just outside Parga, to coordinate the siege and to control the city. The castle of Ali Pasha is still in a very good condition and visitors can also see the undergrounds tanks and the rooms where Ali Pasha stayed in. In 1913,Parga became a Greek city and many of its residents returned to their homeland after its liberation on 28rd February 1913. A visitor can also enjoy the magnificent view from the castle and the island of Madona from the coastal pedestrian road of the city. When you are in Parga, you feel that you are on an island.

2.THE HISTORIC CASTLE OF CITY During the middle ages the area suffered a lot of attacks and raids by pirates and outlaws. In 1401 the city was under the Venetians, after an agreement of both cities, and it remained so till 1797. During the Venetian's administration Parga was fortified as its castle was being built. Also the city became a shopping centre and had a lot of privileges and self administration as long as economical growth. At the same time, the Venetians ordered the plantation of olive trees and as a result a lot of the citizens are still dealing with the production of olives and olive oil. 6

3.THE ISLAND WITH CHURCH OF MADONNA It's a beautiful, green island that is located just in front of the port ,the island of Madonna will attract you. You can visit the island by boat and you can see this unique jewel of the area. The most important sight is the church of Madonna that gave its name to the island, with the picturesque belfry, built in the outskirts of the castle. The castle was built in 1808 from the French during their stay in the area.

4.THE ECCLESIASTICAL MUSEUM,IN THE CENTER OF CITY

Τhe ecclesiastical museum is located in the center of the city, next to the church of 'Agios Nicolaοs'. Although it is small in size, the museum has a rich collection of ecclesiastical heirloom. Τhe visitor can admire both gospels of the 17th century and icons of great value.

7.THE UNDERWATER SOURCH AT AI GIANNAKI

What gives a special impression to the visitor is the source of sweet water that is located into the center of the bay. The water is transported underground from the nearby lake of Kalodikion, known in the area as "lake with water lilies".
