SCHOOL BASED MEDIATION AS A WAY FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTIONS IN SCHOOL

1. TENSIONS IN SCHOOL ď‚Ą There are no tensions only at intermission, but in the classroom as to heating, to swear and to accuse someone without blame. ď‚Ą We had seen an incident where a child was accused, because they thought he had thrown down a classmate! The child was assailed and all the classmates were saying bad words to him. At the end, the headmaster came and all the class was against him for days. Agapi E./Anna Maria B.

2. WAYS OF RESOLVING TENSIONS ď‚Ą There are many ways to resolve problems and conflicts. Like to discuss. Also we can tell them to stop and to calm them. If you see that the problem is still unsolved and important we can talk to a teacher. If the problem is very simple they must find a solution themselves. For example, an incident that happened in our school had to be solved with the Director, with the result the entire class to be punished. Agapi E./ Anna Maria B.

2. WAYS OF RESOLVING TENSIONS ď‚Ą I believe that there should be no conflicts among school children because the problems have to be solved by democracy and with mediators who will be neutral. Of course, there must be an adult if it is such a serious matter. In this way will school mediation be practiced. After school mediation maybe will not exist as many fights and negative moods will reduce. Nikitas R. I believe that children must not have fights because if many children do the same, may become a school that would fight all the time! John K.

ď‚Ą Before my teacher explain what school mediation is, I thought it was a method applied by trained teachers and students. I thought that children who were creating problems were going to a room and were trying with the debate to solve the problem. Kalliopi A./ Dimitra M. ď‚Ą We believe that school based mediation is a group of children that resolve the problems that exist in schools Anna K./ Peny P.

3 . W HA T DO I BE L I E VE T H A T SC HO OL BA SE D M E DI A T I ON I S?

ď‚Ą I believe that school based mediation is a helping hand given by trained teachers and students involved in conflicts. Arina N./ Dorothea P./ Theodora L. ď‚Ą The school based mediation is the process that some children come to solve a problem that has been created by two or more children. Nikitas R.

WHAT IS SCHOOL MEDIATION? ď‚Ą Peer mediation or school-based mediation is defined as the process of peaceful resolution of a conflict in school life between two or more disagreeable students with the help of a third and neutral mediator student through a structured process of anti-violence strategies with clear boundaries, active participation and direct communication of the parties, with a view to constructively resolving the disagreement. This is an alternative practice that replaces the disciplinary system of punishment. Association for Conflict Resolution. Recommended Standards for School Based Peer Mediation Programs 2007

4. HOW WILL SCHOOL MEDIATION HELP MY SCHOOL? ď‚Ą We believe that school mediation practice will help our school very much, because we face a lot of quarrels almost every day per school year between our students. School mediation could be a really good practice. Undoubtedly, it will take time, but in the long term it would be understood as a practice by the entire school body. School mediation will make possible for our students to be more independent to be able to solve their problems on their own, without the need for the help of a teacher or the use of disciplinary penalties. Also, it will be desirable if after a while, students can change character and become more friendly with each other. Anna K. / Peny P. / Michalis B.

5. HOW WILL SCHOOL MEDIATION HELP ME AND MY CLASSMATES? ď‚Ą I believe that school mediation can help those involved in a dispute in many ways and in many areas. With school mediation, those involved in a dispute have the opportunity to be listened by someone who can hear them and understand them. So they feel confident and tranquil because, through school mediation, the confusion in their minds is solved by finding a solution to their problem. In this way, through school mediation, students are given psychological support. Arina N. / Dorothea P. / Thodora L.

5. HOW SCHOOL MEDIATION WILL HELP ME AND MY CLASSMATES? ï‚¡ We believe, it will help us a lot! It will make us feel safe! As we will know that in a dispute we will have someone who can calm us and help us solve it. We can solve our problems in a different way, discussing! most children in our school will feel the same with us! It is better to talk than to shout, fight and hit! Thodora L. / Dorothea P.
