Letter from the editor I am so excited to share this amazing issue full of recipes, inspiration, and DIY’s with you! Please follow EPM on twitter, google+, facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and the blog for behind the scenes looks, sneak peeks, and more inspiration! Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank my amazing friends and family. Especially, Stefani from LaBelle Parties! She has helped me so much with social media and party styling. And thank *you* all for supporting me!

~Jess About Jessica: Jessica is a devoted wife, mother of four young boys, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. While her family takes much of her time, she has always felt the need for a creative outlet. She has often been jokingly referred to as Martha or The Party Hostess, both nicknames she truly loves. As far back as high school, she loved to throw elaborate parties, hosting and designing the Junior/Senior prom her Junior year. College took her in a different direction, but when her sons were born, she went back to her party love and threw them elaborate, and sometimes over the top parties. As her boys grew and started going to school, she began volunteering for their PTA and planned fundraisers and events flawlessly. With all of her boys in school full time, and her friendships with other event planners developing and strengthening, she believes now is the right time to publish a budget friendly and DIY party magazine. When she designs a party, Jessica truly immerses the guests in the theme, whether it’s turning her house and yard into a full service water theme park, building castle doors with her husband, or constructing a monster truck track for power wheels. Jessica truly does capture every tiny detail better than almost anyone. Jessica’s work has been featured on such notable party blogs and magazines such as Hostess With The Mostess, Bird’s Party Magazine, Amy Atlas, lilsugar, Spaceships and Laserbeams, and Made by A Princeess. Jessica enjoys family vacations to their cabin in the TN mountains, as well as frequent trips to The Walt Disney Resort in Orlando, FL. Jessica can often be found in the kitchen baking, cooking and creating to relax. She has never found anything that didn’t look better with a little spray paint, and always has projects lined up for her and her husband to create. Texas Chic Safari by: JoAnne Wuneburger Style Inspired

coordinated and styled this Texas Chic Safari in September of 2012. The venue was a safari style resort with live animals such a zebras, giraffes and ostriches. My client wanted a casual yet chic style that welcomed the guests as they were free to roam the venue. The relaxed attitude of the couple made it easy to bring their vision to life. Although a Texas sized rain storm came for the day, it did not dampen our party spirits in any way. The guests were greeted by wooden gates as they walked through a cobblestone garden area lush with greenery and oak trees. Candles lit the way as they made their way to the windowed main house. Last minute weather changes made it impossible to keep the ceremony outdoors under the trees that were decorated with lanters and lace ribbons. Guests did not seem to mind as they were served fresh squeezed lemonade in Mason jars with vintage striped straws on the wrap around porch. Animal feed was available in kraft bags and children had fun feeding the live animales 7

through the fence. After the cermony guests followed the cobblestone path to the barn where round tables were ready to seat them. White table coverings with burlap runners were the perfect setting for the pottery vases and Mason jars wrapped in lace with burlap filled with baby’s breath and willow branches. Mercury glass votives surrounded the florals and looked lovely in the sunset. A vintage Chevrolet truck bed was turned into a sweets display with vintage treats such as cinnamon sugar donuts, root beer barrels, sugar coated popcorn and chick o stick minis. Due to the weather the cake table was moved in doors in front of the fireplace. A lace coverlet was draped on the vintage oak round table as mercury glass cake stands held pecan pie, hand decorated sugar cookies, cupcakes and sand tarts. The Bride’s cake was accented by sweet succulents. The fireplace was decorated with handmade flowers hung behind the table. Guests danced the night away on the vintage barn floor and the sound of boots scootin’ was music to everyone’s ears. A kid’s table was available for coloring and activities. An open bar was available for guests to enjoy and the happy couple left to sparklers under the evening stars. Event Design and Styling- Style. Breakfast before the Hunt 4th Birthday

nuts the morning of the party and purchased powdered donuts, frozen waffles and biscuits, a pack of strawberries and orange juice for just about nothing. It’s all in the details, right?! I

ere’s something to quack about!! For William’s 4th birthday, we invited a few friends to join us at The Duck Blind for breakfast before the hunt to celebrate his special day. I picked up hot donuts from Mary Lee’s and offered a wide selection of tasty breakfast foods for the little hunters before heading out to the

water. The “duck feed” cereal bar was stocked with RICE (rice krispies) OATS (oatmeal squares) and GRAIN (granola). We had mallard milk, goose eggs, strawberry decoy spread, wood duck waffles,

swamp water, duck call donuts and more. We had a craft table set up for everyone to color their duck stamps and put on their hunting license. or my son Dallas’ 4th birthday, he decided he wanted a “camping” theme and I ran with it! Having three boys, I don’t get to do any girly parties, so I was grateful for this fun theme. I used my Silhouette machine, the dollar store, and pinterest to gather my ideas and supplies. We decided to call his birthday, “Camp Four” and made shirts to hand out in lieu of a paper invitation. I created a design that I liked and used my Silhouette machine to cut out a stencil using freezer paper. Then I ironed on the stencil and painted the shirts. After it was dry, I peeled off stencil and sealed the design by pressing the shirt. We wrapped them up with a note about time and place and passed them out. The boys were asked to wear

their shirts to the party. They all looked so cute wearing the same shirts. The décor was super easy! I pulled out all my camping gear and placed them around the food table and where the activities were going to be. I had my husband set up the tent in our back yard and we also used our fire pit. I bought a plastic grass table cloth to use as a back drop for the food table and also the normal checkered camping table cloths for outside. I made a “Camp Four” sign (like you would see at a real camp) and had that sitting on the table. I took a piece of wood and then glued small sticks to create the letters. I also made camping signs using construction paper and my silhouette machine and placed them around the house. 17

The cake was a chocolate cake that I created to look like a fire. I purchased Pirouette cookies (from Pepperidge Farm) to use as “sticks” and then used different colored fruit roll ups for the “Fire”. The boys thought it was great! We also served hot dogs and other camping type food in cute little containers. Activities included a scavenger hunt, singing camping songs in the tent, painting bird houses, making s’mores, chasing the big bad bear (who happened to be dad) opening gifts in the tent, and creating their own “Happy Tail Mix” bags. Food for the trail mix had camping names like, M&M’s-birds eggs Twix-twigs Rasin’s-deer poop Gummy Worms-fish bait Sweedish Fish-catch of the day

Tootsie rolls-logs Pretzels-firewood Gummy Bears-grizzly bears Red Vines-Snakes We had a great time coming up with fun names for the trail mix. Party favors were passed out at the end. This was one of my favorite things we made. The party favors included a flashlight, binoculars, notebook, and a water bottle--all of which were personalized with the childâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s name using vinyl and then a container of fishy sâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;mores. We wrapped them up in a red bandana and tied them on a stick. It was a great party for boys--dirt, candy and fire!

ack to school time is filled so many mixed emotions. By the end of the summer I am THRILLED that it’s time for my kids to head back to school! I am ready for the break. Then, the reality that my babies are getting bigger and growing up sets in and I start feeling nostalgic and missing the sweet little baby stage. Finally, the memory of getting everyone up, dressed, fed and to three different schools on time comes rushing back and I start to stress out. So this year I decided it would be fun to have a Back 2 School Breakfast for my mommy friends and we could share some tips and tricks for getting back into the school routine. I wanted to keep it simple so I set up a mini pancake bar with a few flavored syrups and some fruit toppings. I stamped my wood utensils so they could double as serving pieces

and food labels. I printed out a simple chalkboard banner and labels. Then to keep costs down and to continue with the school theme I raided my kids’ rooms and grabbed a

aving a sleepover anytime soon? I recently hosted a mini sleepover for the Lizard and Ladybug and one of each of their friends. I chose to set up a super simple breakfast idea to please everyone, but I decided to serve it all by the pool – which the kids LOVED!

For the set up I started with a variety of cereal. I chose some standards.; Mini-Wheats, Lucky Charms, Fruit Loops and Corn Pops. Then I added some milk and juice to a recycled OJ carafe and a carafe from Walmart. With minimal effort, I created a simple yet adorable breakfast for my sleepy heads. For an extra special touch, I added some ‘donuts to-go’ favors. The only thing I bought specifically for the breakfast were the donuts. Everything else, I already had on hand. The striped straws were leftovers from a party. The jars for the cereal were from Dollar Tree. The carafe for the milk came from Walmart. The apple juice jug is a recycled OJ container. Party for Two

his year my sister didn’t want to have a party for my nephew as his birthday falls on Memorial Day weekend. Instead, she decided to take him and a few friends to the beach (which was great). I still wanted to do a little something with a theme, and he and my son are only 3 months apart so they love to get together and play. So instead of setting up a play date, why not have a “party for two”? Dinosaurs have been the toy of choice lately so I went with that theme. The Dollar Store can be your best friend when you want to get the most bang for your thinking buck. I used some about doing inexpensive streamsomething off the beaten path, consider having a Party for Two. I used a Styrofoam ring as the base, basket shred and decorative rocks to complete the look. The boys loved it! Crunch candy served as “fossils” and we also had chocolate-covered “prehistoric rocks”. Stephanie of Spaceships & Laser Beams helped out with her awesome printables. The boys had a blast playing with their dinosaur friends and loved pretending to be dinosaurs roaring around the room. This was a great and simple way to celebrate a birthday. When 32

Lobster Boil on the Beach By: Stefani Khan La Belle Parties

o me Labor Day says red, white and blue, Maine coast and fresh lobster. Unfortunately for me, I live a few thousand miles from the Maine coast in the middle of a valley so, I have to improvise. Fortunately, there is a beautiful lake just a few miles from my house that is perfect for summer evening gatherings. When you are having an outdoor event at a lake keeping the menu simple is the way to go. But remember, simple doesnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t mean you canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have elegant. I served corn on the cob, new potatoes and lobster. Only having three items made it easy for me to prepare and serve my food with minimal set up. I used pizza trays, lobster plates and hand towels for my place settings along

with chalkboard wine glasses and monogrammed lobster bibs. Check out the website for the lobster bib DIY. To help carry out the beach feel, I used burlap layered with blue stripped fabric and fish nets. The layers of fabric add dimension and interest to the table and I saved money by only using small pieces instead of covering the whole table. My absolute favorite item from this party is the lobster trap table! Can you believe my friend actually just had that sitting in her garage? Her husband has the most amazing collection of antiques/vintage items and lucky for me he is always willing to let me borrow stuff. I found my frame for the menu board at a flea market for $10 and I added the chalkboard and chicken wire from my stash of stuff in my garage. I wrote out my menu, added a mini banner and clipped the bibs on. I love how it turned out! It is exactly the look I wanted for very little cost and it made the perfect backdrop for my table. I found the lobster plates at World Market and I had to have them! World Market is one of my favorite go to stores for party items at great prices. Of course I found a few other fabulous items while I was there that added to the New England look I was going for. The fun shell cracker and the platter were exactly what I needed for serving my food and the light house was the perfect way to bring in that New England coast line. Next, I gathered items from around the house to complete the look. I used lanterns, metal stars 35

and galvanized buckets for a patriotic and nautical look. These items are easy to transport and layer on the table. I even brought my America the Beautiful print to lean up against the table. Remember not everything has to be on the table. As long as it is not in the way, I say go for it. Finally, I made some nautical flags to hang in the background. Since building a wood shingled boat house wasn’t an option, adding some nautical flags was a great was to create the idea of a boat house. I tied some white rope around my vases and finished the ends off with a piece of faux leather and added a lobster cutout to my flowers for a little added fun. Finding key elements from your dream venue and finding unique ways to tie them into your tables and décor is a great way to create the illusion of being there. DIY Lollipops By: Roni Plascencia Roni Sugar Creations These Patriotic Lollipops are a fun treat to make. There is an endless list of designs and options to make these adorable lollipops. Good for any theme and any occasion. You will need: 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar ¾ cup of water ⅔ cup of light corn syrup ½ teaspoon of cream of tartar ½ teaspoon of your favorite extract (in this case I used cherry) Red food coloring, 2-3 drops Lollipop sticks Candy thermometer (this is a must) Specialty candy molds (these are not the same as chocolate molds)

With a food safe brush, apply a thin coat of Canola Oil to the candy mold. This will prevent your lollipop from sticking to the mold. Set aside. In a large saucepan combine the sugar, water, corn syrup, and cream of tartar. Stir until well combined and cook over medium heat. Place the thermometer in the saucepan. Bring to a boil. Cook the mixture until the candy thermometer reaches hard crack stage (300-310 degrees). Remove saucepan from heat and add extract and food coloring. Stir until all bubbles are gone. Please keep in mind that it hardens very quickly so you must work fast. If it does harden, place pan over low heat. Very carefully pour mixture into your candy molds and firmly press a lollipop stick into each one. Let them set for 20 minutes or until completely cooled. Remove them carefully from the mold and enjoy! If you want to store the lollipops place a piece of parchment paper between each layer and place in an airtight container in a cool dry place. Do not refrigerate as they will get sticky. There are infinite ways to decorate these delicious and beautiful lollipops. I used my washi tapes to decorate the lollipop sticks, ribbon, edible glitter and paper straws. I used a blue Sparkle Stickâ&#x201E;˘, otherwise known as bling sticks, I got from Made by a Princess and turned my lollipop into a bling candy.

Behind the bar I hung a garage sale find window pane. I painted the recipes to our Southern cocktails on the glass and of course embellished it with some seersucker fabric. On each table I placed a white table cloth topped with a seersucker runner, fresh flowers in glass vases and mint julep cupsand a silver frame with prints of the Sazerac recipe, the history of the drink and several other beloved cocktails such Last year I created a special logo inspired by as the Pimm's cup. lanning this baby shower for my 4th child was bittersweet. This would be the very last baby shower to be held in my honor. I carefully considered a theme, and quickly contacted the fabulous Angela from Brooklyn Design Studio. She makes all my invitations, and announcements. It’s rare when you can find a person that will get the design perfectly in one shot. After the invitation details were set, I started collecting items for what would be a “lil’ buckaroo” themed celebration! I love to bargain hunt, so I was very pleased to find a lot of my items at discount prices. I refurbished furniture from my local goodwill, and even items from yard sales. I’m a very hands-on party planner, so I was anxious to make some party decor of my own! I rented 8 bales of hay from my local feed store. They added to perfect amount of authenticity to my shower. I had some fabulous party vendors contribute to what I think was the best baby shower I’ve ever had! The desserts were amazing, and the menu was filled with delicious, homecooked food by my Grandmother! There were so many personal touches that made my shower a very special one. It was definitely a family affair, as I received lots of help from friends, family, and most-importantly, my other children. While it was a lot of work planning, and setting up, we all had a fabulous time, and are so grateful for all who came to help us celebrate baby #4. The menu consisted of BBQ pulled pork sandwiches with rolls, baked beans, coleslaw, corn on the cob, macaroni & cheese, and fresh fruit. I loved the idea that all the food was served from antique porcelain dishes. It made everything look even more authentic for my western theme. Everyone ate from real pie tins, along with wooden utensils that were wrapped inside real bandana napkins. I chose to display all the delicious food on top of a burlap covered table. Claudia from Tini Posh sent me an adorable material garland to use. I attached it to the front of the food table, and it looked perfect. I created a backdrop using a free wooden pallet that I picked up from work. I cov-

ered it with chicken wire, and spray painted a light coat of brown. I then attached paper fans, tissue fans, and a cute banner that I created from bandana printed material, burlap, and twine. The guests had their choice of bottled water, and Sarsaparilla. I displayed bottles inside of an antique wash tub. There was also lemonade served inside of glass bottles, and the iced tea being dispensed from a large Mason jar. The guests drank out of Mason jars that had paper straws tied with tulle, and a little cowboy themed embellishment. My drink station was set on top of an old wooden tool box, and bales of hay. My dessert station was displayed on an old-fashioned hutch that I found at a yard sale. I fell in love with the chicken wired windows on the cupboard doors. It was originally an unfinished wood grain, that I quickly painted in a shade of red. The transformation was perfect for the lil’ buckaroo themed shower! I added more porcelain dishes, old tin cans, and antique boxes. I found a mini wooden trough from HomeGoods, and knew it would work perfectly to display the darling horse cookies from Arlene at She Wears The Crown. I also set out some of her cookies inside of a hutch drawer, on top of krinkle paper. I displayed rock candy inside of a small Mason jar, as well as ropes of red licorice. Mini blueberry, and apple pies were put on a small pie holder that I set inside of one of the hutch drawers, along with a galvanized pail, that held the cutest horse cake pops, from Roni’s Sugar Creations.

She also provided rice krispie treats attached with little cowboy hats. I thought it would be a nice change of pace for my guests to enjoy cupcakes, instead of cake. Blanca from Creativities Galore created some darling paper printables for the cupcakes. Other cupcakes had beautiful fondant toppers from She Wears The Crown. A cactus, cowboy boot, rope, bandana, cowboy hat, and a sheriff ’s badge were perfect, and truly delicious! The tables were covered with red, and blue bandana material. I added 2 small black lanterns as centerpieces. I found these at IKEA. I had fun decorating them with burlap, ribbon, and twine. Each plastic chair was decorated with strips of burlap. With clothespins, I attached adorable brown mustaches that Ana from Divine Functions created for me. It’s always a great time when your party has a photo booth, and fun props! from Oriental Trading Co. and set it out in front of bales of hay, and a red bandana backdrop. Ana from Divine Functions provided all the fabulous props: A “wanted” sign, mustaches & lips on sticks, cowboy hats, guns, and bandanas. The gift table was set up on bales of hay. I set out a darling western themed diaper cake that I created, and served as the centerpiece. A few of my guests got super creative with their gift wrapping. It was so fun to see how they embellished their gifts with twine, plastic horses, raffia, and printables. It was a perfect day, spent with family & friends. I loved everything about my shower, and am so thankful for all the help, and generosity from vendors, friends, and family. Now all we need is our lil’ buckaroo to complete the picture!

Congratulations to Laura and her family! Their baby buckaroo was born on Monday, July 1st. He is absolutely beautiful and perfect. He has the bightest eyes and the sweetest face,! Mama is already working on more parties while snuggling with her handsome little man.

am so excited to share this Apples and Ale photo shoot we styled for you! The concept of this shoot was a casual backyard party. This party is full of DIY crafts for dramatic decorations that make a big impact. We started with a more natural manly color palette inspired from the men in my family, from my husband to my oldest nephew. Many of the ideas we decided on incorporated leather, twine and burlap. Which were perfect for creating the dramatic décor. Even all the designs use the images to tie everything together and add the perfect finishing touch. We started with a simple, yet fun invitation featuring a beer bottle and apple design we created. The invitation comes in two parts. One fits on the outside of a long narrow jewelry box that says, “Have a Cold One On Us!” The other part fits on the inside of the box which includes all the party information. The invitation is available in our shop. Vanilla cupcake were dressed up with our cupcake toppers, red wrappers and placed on Beer Tasting Serving Paddles.

We enlisted the help of Shelley from Margie Louâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Sweets to create the Keg cake which rested beautifully on top of beer bottles. We created the Beer Bottle Chandelier using a wooden floral ring, which already had the holes and made it easier to tie the fishing line to hold the bottles. We alternated the bottles so every other one would be a different length than the next. One of my favorite DIY crafts is the Cheers Beer Bottle Banner. This was fun to make. Clear beer bottles wrapped in burlap and twine and handstamped.

A few other DIY crafts were the bottle cap coasters and Cold Beer sign. hen Jennifer first approached me about submitting her Gatsby inspired wedding shoot, I was very excited! Gatsby is one of my favorite books, one I can read over and over again and still love it. Jennifer is a great friend, and her eye for style is amazing, so, of course, I said I would love to feature it! Then, I got the images. My breath was taken, I was overwhelmed by the beauty, I was awe struck that I get to premier this work of art. And, yes, it is truly art. Then, I began to wonder if it even belongs in my budget minded DIY style magazine. This is by no means a budget minded photo shoot, it is, however, an everyday event, a wedding. It does provide copious amounts of inspiration and eye candy. And, this same style can be recreated similarly on a budget. Together, with Jennifer and other stylists, I have compiled alternate ideas and cost saving techiniques to mimic the style seen in this photo shoot. It will take time, and work, but it can be done. I have also asked Jennifer and Megan Alissa Glanville of General Eclectic and dani fine photography several questions about recreating the look.

How can I save money on bridesmaids dresses?

If your wedding is retro, vintage or offbeat, check out some local consignment shops or thrift stores— you can find many unique pieces you wouldn’t have otherwise thought of. Another way to save is to have your bridesmaids refine their search to a certain hue (or hues) or particular style and select dresses that fit each personality (yet compliment the overall aesthetic). Lastly, shop the sales; research a local bridal boutique and inquire as to whether they offer annual or semi annual sales—knowing about such events in advance will allow you to arrive early and have first pick. Also, look online most retailers have coupon codes and/ or promotions; be sure to expand your search to include those resources that not specifically geared toward “wedding” specifically (i.e. check out Nordstrom, Macy’s J. Crew, Ann Taylor etc). Are there any DIY projects I can do to create the theme?

I would start by creating a file or board dedicated to your theme and do some research. There are so many wonderful resources online and amazing DIY projects that can really pump up the style for your big day. Focus on incorporating little details. If you have selected a 1920s theme, seek out art deco inspired items which you can include as nuances throughout. You could choose a fabric and have a runner on each of the main tables (sweetheart, cake and escort card table). Fine a complimentary paper and use this to decoupage a card box and as the backing for your table number cards. You could also get a great look with spray paint and stencils. Spray the card box with a metallic base paint, then overlay with a hand cut/store bought stencil or lace and spray with an alternate color paint. For a DIY project for the actual reception consider getting a nice print from your engagement session with a mat and frame—you can set up a table for guests to sign or write a little message on the mat board—use one color ink or several. When the wedding is over you will have a beautiful, meaningful piece of art for your home.

My husband and I have been married for 16 years, and I truly wish I had budgeted better for a photographer.

n aternative to expensive wine in bottles, is to purchase local wine, or even lesser expensive wine and pour it in to vintage style cafares. Target and Wal-Mart, both, sell similar carafes. Dish rental and vintage product rental companies may also carry similar products.

our cake is the centerpeice of your dessert table, it needs to be beautiful. Many bakers can create a gorgeous faux cake with a real cake top for display and cutting, and the guests can be served a simple sheet cake. Additionally, many local grocery stores can create a beautiful cake for a faction of the cost of traditional bakeries. Your selection will be more limited, however.

lace cards are so important in setting the tone, but they donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t need to be custom printed or expensive. These place cards can easily be replicated with a linen card stock paper and a nice pen. It will be time consuming, but very cost effective! They can even be embellished with simple faux gem stones or pearls.

his wedding shoot has a destinct theme; the period dress, and the vintage reception decor and styling are very important elements for this shoot and your own wedding! Thrifted books and family pieces can be used to recreate the Gatsby theme. I have stacks of books from my hisbandâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s family that I use for parties all the time, sometimes they are covered, other times the books are fully visable. Using pieces from your families is a great way to personalize your events.

Host your reception during a non meal time, serving local in season foods, and limiting your guests food choices are a few examples. I would certainly hire a capable person for this job. Again, it will be expensive, but worth it in the long run. It is important to place value on your time and sanity.

Are there any inexpensive venue choices you can recommend?

When it comes to wedding venues, think outside the box. Inquire with a museums, historical sites, Libraries, Town Halls etc. to see if they currently offer event services or would allow your wedding to take place there. If the potential venue you reach out to doesn’t offer such services, ask if they know of any other places. Keep in mind, for such venues, you may need to bring everything in (tables, chairs, tents if outside etc) however you will also have more creative control, and a very unique beautiful location to tie the knot. What are the top 5 elements you would recommend splurging on if I’m on a limited budget? (These are in no particular order) 1. A Gown 2. Hair & Makeup Both of these will have you feeling stunning (as you should be) on your big day. Make sure to select a gown and shoes that are comfortable and you can move in. 3. Earrings or piece of fine jewelry you will wear well after your wedding. (This could be your something new or your something blue) 4. Food & drink; . Instead of offering a full open bar, consider offering a curated drink menu. You can come up with and offer signature cocktail, your favorite artisanal beer and wine or some combination therein. Guests will appreciate your creativity and be glad they have something to clink during the toast. For food, consider foregoing the traditional cheese, veggie dip table and opt for fewer better quality appetizers which can be brought around at intervals by wait staff. This will allow guests to savor something delectable whilst keeping costs down. For main meal, consider family style as opposed to plated entrees. 5. Photography. This is so important, because after all is said and done a good photographer will make sure you have amazing images and are able to relive the day. They will also be the ones that help you see everything that happened that day; you will miss things and they will capture them for you. You only get one wedding day and it is crucial to have skilled, fine photographer able to accommodate and record this special day for you What are the top 5 elements I could improvise/DIY if I’m on a limited budget?

1. Spend time designing a stunning cake table, be it with a runner, or maybe create a custom cake stand. You can accessorize the cake table with fresh flowers and/or colorful candy (complimentary to your chosen color way) which guests can help themselves to. Make it a feast for the eyes and palette. 2. You can give any space a touch of your wedding style by creating custom signage whether it be directional signs (i.e. “Smith Reception This Way”, table numbers, signature drink signs etc. There are easy ways to find an idealfont and the perfect frames for you event. 3. Card Box; check out thrift stores to find a table or simple box, and decorate it to match your theme. This will be a great statement piece that will stand out. 4. Plan a girls night in~play some of your favorite music, load up on goodies from the art/craft/sewing store and work on creating some one of a kind headpieces/hair accessories. This works well for many themes, but would be especially nice should you be interested in going a Great Gatsby look. It is a great way to spend time, the guests will admire the pieces and the bridesmaids will have a great memento. We recommend searching trim and ribbon section and opening a bottle of wine for the craft night (to help get the creative juices flowing). 5. Focus on including meaningful details for tabletop design. When looking to bring in a little glitz and glamor try using a metallic spray paint—this works exceptionally well with old bottles and vases offering an updated fresh look. You can also spray paint all of your votive candle holders, which will further your custom look.

peration Shower is about celebrating, honoring and showing love to military families. Operation Shower is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and our mission to to provide joyful- AWESOME — baby showers for military families to ease the stress of deployment. For military families who are expecting a new baby and are experiencing or have recently experienced deployment, we accomplish our mission through: hosting amazing baby showers; delivering high-quality products; creating a shared experience; bringing recognition to military families; and working with individuals and companies to provide them an opportunity to show their appreciation and love for military families. Our Story: Operation Shower began in March 2007, when LeAnn Morrissey, looking for a way to give back to to the military, was asked to send a card to 4 women who were expecting babies while their spouses were deployed. LeAnn decided to try to do much more for these families. She set out with family and friends to send a “shower in a box” to the four military families who were expecting babies while the husband was deployed. The overwhelming support she received putting these boxes together and the messages of thanks she received from these moms left her with little doubt that this was something worth doing — over and

over again! Soon thereafter, she worked together with Kris Jackson and others to hold the first unit-wide baby shower at Ft. Bragg, NC in June 2007 and Operation Shower was born. The response from people across the country has been amazing as people understand the importance of our mission. As of May 2013, the Operation Shower team has, through the generous donations of individuals and corporations and through volunteer-power, hosted showers for over 1300 women and families. We have held 34 unit-wide showers on military bases and other locations, such as PGA TOUR sites, across the country for families in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and National Guard. Operation Shower feels blessed and honored to be able to join with these women for a special celebration during what is otherwise an often stressful time. The showers provide wonderful items for the new babies and moms, and help bring the women together to celebrate with others in the same situation. armingdale, N.Y. – “Melissa and Joey” actress and expectant mom Melissa Joan Hart helped provide a storybook baby shower for 40 military moms-to-be whose spouses are deployed members of the New York National

Guard and Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (Trenton, N.J.) during an Operation Shower event at Bethpage State Park: The Black Course. The event was held on Military Appreciation Day at The Barclays, the first event of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs. Conducted by non-profit group Operation Shower in partnership with the PGA TOUR’s Birdies for the Brave military outreach initiative, the “Once Upon A Shower”-themed event was sponsored by Barclays and baby bedding company Carousel Designs, with support from Petunia Pickle Bottom. Seven local designers helped make the event special by competing in a table design contest. In addition to lunch provided by Whole Foods Market, each of the honored moms-to-be received Operation Shower’s signature “Shower In A Box” – a gift

of high-quality products for mothers and babies that were donated by companies including Carousel Designs, Petunia Pickle Bottom and others. Barclays also surprised the moms by giving each of them a brand new Britax car seat and a Maclaren stroller. Numerous raffle prizes were also awarded. Beyond the array of tangible items the moms received, the best gift of all may have been the opportunity for the moms to share stories and gain comfort from other military women in the same situation. In addition to Hart, special guests at the event included Gil Sanborn, managing director at Barclays and co-founder of the Barclays Military Services Network; Peter Mele, executive director of The Barclays; and Allan Sicat and Jonathan Hartley, West Point graduates, former U.S. Army officers and owners of Carousel Designs. Following the shower, Hart and the moms served as special guests at The Barclays’ military appreciation ceremony held on the 1st tee, where festivities included military pageantry, a vintage military plane flyover provided by the American Airpower Museum, and an address by General Craig McKinley, chief of the National Guard Bureau and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Hart, a long-time supporter of charitable causes that support families, said, “I was very honored to have the opportunity to host the Operation Shower event during The Barclays and express my appreciation for all these women do in support of our military. Bulldawg Birthday Tailgatin’ by: Jessica Roe Let’s Get This Party Started!

y son is a jock, through and through. He sleeps with sports balls, he talks about sports, he dreams about sports, he only plays sports related video games...he know more about any one sport than I do about all sports combined. So, it was no surprise that he asked for a sports themed birthday party. He is very laid back, and allows me to do what I want when I style his parties. My husband is a Georgia boy, that grew up watching Herschel Walker play for the ‘Dawgs. We live in FL, yet he proudly represents his ‘Dawgs and so do our sons. I knew this party needed to be a football party. I also KNEW it needed to be a ‘Dawgs party. I decided to make the party a tailgate style party. My husband and I went to our favorite store, The Home Depot, and purchased oodles of yellow, black, white, and red spray paint, and large PVC pipes. We dutifully marked off the front yard as a football field and spray painted the lines (yes right on to my husband’s beloved grass, and he was more than alright with it) for the field, and the end zone, as well as the G logo at the “50” yard line. We built PVC field goals and spray painted them bright yellow. In our driveway, we set up folding chairs and corn hole games for the guests to play if they chose not to play flag football. I pulled our van into the yard on the other side of the driveway and styled it for tailgating. We set up our pop up tent and several tables and our grill for the food. I cut out vinyl with my Silhouette machine and labeled my crock pots as well as Dollar Tree bowls to match the party colors. We served game day foods, that included chips, chili, and hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as amazing chocolate covered Oreo’s from Love and Sugar Kisses. I orded a simple cake and cupcakes from Sam’s club with black and red fondant dots to match. I used a Dollar Tree cake carrier, also embellished with vinyl to keep the cake safe from any frosting snatchers (aka, my kids fingers). I used a simple white sheet with a cut out letter G for the backdrop of the sweets table. 75

The tables were covered with various red and black fabric and tablescloths I had at the house. I used footballs all around for more decoration too. I also hung red, white, and black bunting under the pop up tent, and in the tailgate of our van. The van was decorated with more footballs, throw blankets, tabletop football games, a UGA football cooler that palys their fight song when you open it, as well as a UGA t-shirt over thw back seat. For the favors, I set up a small table in our outdoor walkway, with an inexpensive paper table cloth with football field markings on it. I used an old wooden bench with a red blanket draped on it to hold some of the favor bags, as well as an old metal milk crate. For the backdrop, I created a black and white chalkboard style print with the letter G on it as well as football coaching arrows and drawings, and had it printed at Staples for just a few dollars. The favors were placed in brown craft bags purchased from Michaelâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s with Bulldawg and G images stuck on. I added some red, white, and black ribbon to the bags for a pop of color and charm. I picked up affordable foam footballs from the Dollar Tree, as well as eye black stick76

ers from Walmart to put in the bags with some Russell Stover candy packaged in Bulldog wrapping. This party was so much fun. The kids played football in the yard for hours while the parents sat and chatted. We chose to spend a little more on licensed college gear for this party, but it could easily be replicated for less than $100 if you decided not to include your favorite team. hereâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s nothing that makes kids happier than sprinkles. And donuts. So I combined the two into a fun donut decorating party. I used a variety of vintage tart pans as plates and to hold the sprinkles and various toppings, and a variety of mix and match vintage measuring spoons served as spoons to dish up toppings. A large roll of kraft paper served as a table cloth and a giant food label, with a glittery bronze Sharpie used to identify the sprinkles and various toppings. Homemade vanilla donuts were dipped in glaze and topped with whatever sprinkles their little hearts desired. Toppings included crushed Oreo cookies, nuts, sugar pearls, sprinkles and mini chocolate chips. To drink, homemade strawberry milk was served in miniature milk bottles and decorated with Foxâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Party Rings, English cookies that just happened to look like donuts. A few printables from my Donuts & PJs collection add pops of color by creating food and straw flags. Vanilla Donuts 2 c flour 3/4 c sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1 T shortening 2 eggs, beaten 3/4 c milk 1 tsp vanilla Directions Preheat over to 325 degrees. Lightly grease a mini donut pan with cooking spray and set aside. In a bowl, mix first four ingredients. Then add shortening, eggs, milk and vanilla to the dry and mix and gently mix. Fill each donut cavity 2/3 full. Tip: I used a pancake pen (Tovolo Pancake Pen) to fill the cavities. Easy and mess free! Bake for 8-9 minutes until the tops spring back. Allow to cool. Glaze 1 c. powdered sugar 2 T hot water

Directions Mix sugar and water together in a small bowl, and whisk until smooth. Consistency will be runny, but will make a nice glaze. Homemade Strawberry Milk 2 c fresh strawberries, sliced 1/2 c sugar 1/2 c water 1 tsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp vanilla 4 c of milk(cow, rice or almond) Directions Place the strawberries, sugar, water, lemon juice, and vanilla in a

small saucepan over medium high heat. Bring to a boil. Lower the heat to medium low and simmer, stirring often, until mixture thickens into a syrup (about 10 min). Strain the strawberry syrup into a bowl, pressing the solids into the strainer with the back of a spatula or spoon to extract all of the strawberry goodness. Discard solids (or freeze for smoothies!). Chill the strawberry syrup in the refrigerator. Once chilled, add 2 tablespoons of the strawberry syrup into an 8oz glass of milk and stir.

anessa styled this classic Cowboys and Indians party for her son and his friends. There is something special about styling a party around a timeless childhood game. Vanessa did such a great job creating the printables and decor for this playdate!

*Donut tower in lue of an expensive cake cut down the cost considerably. Adding a cakepop to the top kind-of makes it a cake somehow lol. *Add cookies to the cupcakes in lue of fondant toppers cuts down on cost and is a lot tastier. *Favors - Blue mason jars (available at WalMart) filled with smashed graham crackers, mini marshmallows and Hersey chocolate squares. Add skewers to the back with ribbon and send your guest home with a sweet treat for 6 to enjoy by the fire. *Favors #2 - Treat bags filled with mini treats (m&m’s, gum balls etc...) *Activities included a cowboy and indian themed coloring book and crayons, a cowboy and indian “scene” by the tree that is sure to entice any toddler to use their imagination.

y daughter’s favorite soundtrack is the Sound of Music. I started singing “Do Re Mi” to her when she was particularly fussy one day and she stopped instantly. I then found the video on my iPhone and it was all over. I think we must have contributed to the 1 million views on YouTube! Figuring out a theme for her 2nd birthday this year was easy…it had to be Sound of Music. I researched and planned for months. I wanted to make sure I captured all the important details without being silly or campy. The overall theme was elegant and classy just like the movie. The colors were mostly gold and ice blue with bits of green here and there. The week leading into her birthday we must have watched the movie at least two times a day! One thing I knew for sure: I had to have mountains. I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to pull it off but it was going to happen. A few weeks before the party I procured some large appliance boxes. By procured I mean I called all over town asking anyone and everyone if they had any big boxes and when I did finally find someone got my very nice, understanding, loving husband to drive 40 minutes away to pick up. The weekend before the party he and I cut out the mountains and painted them to match the graphics and laser images I used on her invitation. To make the snow capped peaks I cut out “snow” out of poster board and 92

lightly spray painted them with pearl mist paint so they would shimmer a little. The mountains were the perfect picture backdrop and really completed the look and feel of being someplace other than my backyard in Carlsbad, CA. I had picnic blankets out in front of the mountains and encouraged our guests to find a cozy spot under the tree and enjoy the gorgeous weather we had. I started collecting things I found on eBay like Sound of Music posters, sheet music, old travel posters of Austria, an authentic Austrian flag, and a Barbie Maria doll months in advance. I thought Captain von Trapp would have been proud of me hanging my Austrian flag! I used the sheet music to make cones filled with pink roses to hang in the dining room and in the big tree in the background. I found strings of crystals online and hung those in the tree as well to represent “raindrops on roses.” I hung some movie posters in the dining room and used the large rolls of cloud paper from Michael’s in the windows to give the feeling of being somewhere else. Blue skies and big puffy clouds were so prevalent in the movie, I wanted to bring that feeling to my little girl’s party as well. I really loved the way the cloud paper looked in the windows. At my local thrift shop I found a green tea pot and spray painted it copper and purchased an inexpensive pair of gloves on Amazon and set them on the picnic basket on the food table “bright copper kettles and warm woolen mit-

tens.” Any package that was delivered to our house for her birthday got a makeover with brown paper I bought at The Dollar Tree and tied with pretty gold twine – “brown paper packages tied up with string.” Even one of the lonely goats made an appearance and stood watch over the presents. The goat was a very special gift to Megan from our priest, Rev. Laura, who also shares a love of the Sound of Music. For the “wild geese that fly with moon on their wings” I cut out geese with my Silhouette Cameo and painted the edges of their wings with blue glitter. We don’t have a cat ourselves but we do have a neighborhood feline friend, Cheyenne, who if she showed up would be our “whickers on kittens.” We had a “cream colored pony” in the form of an animatronic pony a fellow party planner loaned me. It whinnied and moved its head and seemed pretty lifelike. The little kids were either terrified or loved it! “Snowflakes on my nose and eyelashes” was a bit more challenging seeing as how we live in Sunny San Diego and it was April so I improvised with a custom ribbon garland from my friend Nancy of A to Z Celebrations in cool winter tones of ice blue, white, and silver. I purchased hand adorned snowflakes from Le Card Shoppe on Etsy. I hung the garland and snowflakes in the entry way so when guests walked in the snowflakes were just low enough to touch heads and faces as they walked in. One of the guests’ favorite touches was the poster I made of Megan’s Favorite Things. Two year old favorites change so frequently but this

little snapshot of her favorites at this moment in time I hope will be a treasured keepsake for her when she is older. On the door was a collection of bells to represent “door bells and sleigh bells.” I decorated the entry hall with large “Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti” letters and musical notes which helped set the tone as guests came in. All of the other ele-

ments from the song could be found throughout the party. “Doe a deer a female deer”: I gave her a stuffed fawn for her birthday which she carried around the whole party. “Ray a drop of golden sun”: there was a little spec of golden paint on the mountains. “Me a name I call myself ”: the birthday girl. “Fa a long long way to run”: her big brother and friends playing in the front yard. “Sew a needle pulling thread”: I affixed a little needle and twine on the mirror next to one of the hanging cones with roses. “La a note to follow sew”: I taped a tiny musical note next to the needle. “Tea with jam and bread”: I served iced tea and made kaiserschmarrn which is kind of like a pancake in little bits with raspberry jam on the side. My daughter was Gretel for Halloween last year and I made her a white and green damask costume like the one in the movie so for her party I found a white dress and put a blue ribbon on it to represent “girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes.” I still wanted to incorporate the damask curtains and finally found some inexpensive green and white shower curtains that 93 Everyday Party Magazine-Fall 2013

I hung in my dining room. I researched traditional Austrian foods and while I had never made Austrian food before I was excited to try some new dishes. Of course we had to have “schnitzel with noodles” so I made traditional schnitzel and spaetzle which are kind of like gnocchi. The rest of the food were things they would have eaten on their picnic like cheese, crackers, fruit, and nuts. I always make my kids’ birthday cakes but I really wanted a traditional European dessert so I bought a Princess Cake (three layers of genoise filled with raspberry jam, pastry cream, and topped with a more than generous amount of whipped cream all wrapped in pale-green marzipan) from our local Danish bakery. Maria sat atop the cake with the birthday candles. The cake was heaven! Roni from Roni’s Sugar Creations made the most delectable musical note cakepops. There were truly amazing. The vintage suitcases on the food table represented their journey out of Austria and the picnic basket was from the “Do Re Mi” scene. I converted my Pottery Barn Kids tiki bar into a pink lemonade bar because that is what the Baroness drinks on the veranda with the children. I found ice blue fabric on the clear-

Since most people are unfamiliar with how to plant and care for an Edelweiss plant I made a label telling them exactly what to do. I have planned a lot of parties but I think this is my favorite so far. My little girl was just in awe the whole time and as a mom you can’t get better than that.

am very excited to share April & Adam’s gorgeous Silver & Scarlet Wedding! This wedding was so much fun to work on! Not only was it full of amazing and personal details, but also full of love! The bride had so many creative ideas and an amazing sense of style. Not one detail was overlooked. This couple was determined to make their wedding personal, unique & memorable. And I think everyone in attendance for their BIG Day would agree that they accomplished that goal! The bride & groom were married in the Greek Theater on the University of Arkansas campus. It was an unusually chilly day and had began to drizzle just before the ceremony, there was even a chance of sleet and snow. Flannel blankets were provided to keep the guests warm and cozy during the outdoor ceremony. We tucked the five piece string quartet into a covered walkway and the ceremony went off without a hitch. One of the most touching moments of the ceremony was the blessing of the rings. The rings, protected in a beautiful velvet bag, were passed along to each guest to bless. The ring bearer then delivered the rings to the officiant. {And yes, I cried!} The Reception was held at the historical UARK Bowl on Dickson St. The happy couple made their grand entrance in true sport-loving style. The wedding party entered the reception to the Chicago Bulls theme song and were introduced as members of Team Bride & Team Groom. A bridesmaid even surprised the newlyweds with an appearance from our beloved University of 98 Everyday Party Magazine-Fall 2013

Arkansas mascots. The guests wrote notes on quilt squares for a fun and unique guest book alternative and enjoyed Razorback Red Velvet cupcakes as they found their designated seats. Tables were named after places that the couple had traveled. The tables were decorated with grey pintuck linens, scarlet red chargers, beautiful silver menus, 8x10 photos describing the table names, red votive candles, and the most gorgeous, tall centerpieces of deep red roses and willow branches, designed and created by the bride’s mother. A few of my favorite details included a Filbert’s Soda Bar {Filbert’s is a specialty soda that has been brewed in the couple’s home city of Chi-

cago since 1926.} A ‘Meet the Maids & Greet the Groomsmen’ table, complete with photos of each wedding party member and a brief explanation of how they know the bride & groom. And to further represent the couple’s home in Chicago, we hung enlarged photos {taken by the bride} of the Chicago skyline & other famous attractions throughout the reception venue. Cocktail Hour hors d’oeuvres included Bruschetta, Spinach & Parmesan Stuffed Mushrooms and Cocktail Meatballs. Guests enjoyed an elaborate dinner spread of Mushroom Herbed Chicken, a Beef Tenderloin carving station, Sauteed Bacon Green Beans, Mixed Greens Salad and a Mashed Potato Martini Buffet. Instead of a traditional tiered wedding cake, the

couple chose to serve Oreo Cake Truffles, Chocolate Covered Strawberries and had a personal cake for cutting.

This fun group got the party started and danced into the wee hours. Grandma even showed off her moves on the dance floor a time or two. Love just oozed from this couple and their families. Candy and Dessert Table DIY & Styling Tips

ho doesn’t like candy? With so many options you can add to your wedding, sweet 16 or bridal shower, Why not add a candy station to your event? It’s a crowd pleaser and definitely an awesome way to say “Thank you” to your guests. There so many ideas that are out there to create a candy station and only five steps to creating your perfect candy station. *Budget- How much are you wanting to spend? You also have to consider the number of guests you have attending your event. *Supplies- Apothecary Jars, containers and displays. Table decorations to add to your theme. Scoops, labels and of course the take out boxes/bags for your guests. *Candy- This is always the fun part! It can get pricey when you are going with a certain color palette, but you can save by buying in bulk and you can also replenish. *Desserts- When looking to add more touches and beautification to your station, always go with desserts! My go-to desserts are cake pops by Cake Pops by Janine and chocolate covered Oreos by Bella’s Bakery! They both do an amazing job and always the best finishing touches of my candy station. *Candy Display- It’s all about the details and presentation! Elevate your jars on boxes that you can find at Michael’s or JoAnn’s. It adds more to your candy bar and easy access for your guests to get their favorite candy. Here is a Candy Station I displayed for A Sweet 16 – Jillian loves butterflies and her favorite colors are Purple and Black. I made sure I stuck with the color palette and I also added white to blend perfectly. I added butterfly cookies from Sweet Inspiration to keep with the theme. I wanted to keep it more on the simple side, but also with a little bling, but not too much. So, I added some shimmery Chocolate covered Oreos from Bella’s Bakery. I think it all came out beautifully and Jillian loved her candy station! y youngest son is my wild card, you never really know what to expect with him. He’s wildly independent, yet a snuggly cuddly little man. He loves Legos, and stuffed animals, but his favorite toy is Mr. Potato Head, and has been since he was a toddler. He is brilliant, and funny, and does not follow along the lines of a typical six year old. So, when he told me he wanted a Back to the Future birthday party four months before his birthday, I knew he really wanted that theme. He wanted D. Jones’ Manure Hauling signs, he wanted a hover board, he wanted Pepsi to drink and Pizza Hut to eat. He expected me to make Doc Browns lab in the house, and he had to have his favorite Oreos from Love and Sugar Kisses. He knew what he wanted! I was excited, I mean, really my six year old wanted a BTTF party? Parenting WIN! My husband and I knew the food would be simple, we would serve Pepsi products, and large Pizza Hut pizzas as well as small personal size pizzas. (rehydrated pizzas) We had the hanging fruit on our dining room table as well as chips, cookies, and cake. And, oh, the cake, my little man had to have the Jailbird Joey cake from the first movie. Of course that is not something you can just go buy at the store, thankfully, one of my dearest friends is wildly gifted, and was able to make a plain white sheet cake from Sam’s Club into the Jailbird Joey cake for us. The day before the party was a frenzy of cutting,

nailing and creating for us. We decided to set the front yard up to resemble the first movie, our entryway was Doc’s lab, the great room was styled to resemble the second movie with our kitchen styled as the 80’s Cafe, and the rest of the room as Marty and Jennifer’s future house. Our back yard was loosely set up as the wild west. We turned our playhouse into Doc’s Blacksmith Shop, made an end of the rail sign and train tracks, we also made a hoverboard for the swingset, and a clock for the top of the swing set. I used my Silhouette a lot for this party, re-creating the pop up Pepsi buttons from the 80’s Cafe with a spray painted charger and cut vinyl. I printed images from the movie off the internet and hung them around the house. I also used an image of the Flux Capacitor and an app to make simple white mailing boxes look like flux capacitors for the guest favors. I found a free DeLorean cut and fold online and put them in the favor boxes with airheads candy that I added a hoverboard sticker to. The boxes also had custom tattoos, glow sticks, retro sunglasses, jelly bracelets, and personal pan pizza coupons from my local Pizza Hut. The favors were placed in the entryway, AKA Doc’s lab. I recreated the lab with crumpled papers thrown about, cans of Kal-Can dog food, a toaster with burnt toast, a coffee maker with old smelly coffee (or food colored wa109

just under $200 for 4 hours, and they offered to take the guests for a ride around the block! My husband and I were ecstatic! The morning of the party, I found some scrap 2x4’s in the garage and stapled construction paper and tissue paper on them to look like flames to put behind the DeLorean. We like to get our boys new clothes to wear on their birthday, and we were able to get a puffer ter), tons of thrift store and borrowed clocks, a vest like Marty’s from Land’s End on clearance skateboard and a handmade wooden Plutoni- for just $10, my son still wears it! I loved styling um box. I also borrowed a couple of lab coats. We lined our garbage cans, that I spray painted ‘DOC BROWN’ onto, along our outdoor walk up along with a skateboard. I recreated the “Save the Clocktower” signs and collection can and put them out front as well. In the yard next door, we placed a D. Jones’ Manure Hauling sign that I hand painted on scrap lumber next to a wheelbarrow, some fill dirt and a grain shovel. We also made a Hill Valley 2 Miles sign for our yard, and a second clock tower to hand out front with an electrical cord. To surprise my little guy, I contacted the DeLorean Club of FL and inquired about renting a DeLorean to sit in the front yard. Much to my surprise, I received an email within a day! Better than that, it was a very affordable rental, this party! I have loved the BTTF trilogy since I was a little kid, and it thrilled me to no end to be able to recreate it for my youngest son. hat do you get when you mix pumpkins and pink together? You get An Enchanted Pumpkin Playdate. This playdate was inspired by my daughter’s love of all things pink and my favorite season - Fall. What you don’t know is, I was given a $50 budget!!! You may say, “Now what can you possibly do with $50?”. Let’s begin... I started out by contacting one of my favorite paper artists, Christy from Itsy Belle. Christy designed the gorgeous Enchanted Pumpkin paper collection for me. I love working with her. I wanted to add a wow factor to the playdate, so I contacted Kylie from Made by a Princess and she sent her popular Sparkle Sticks as featured on Hostess with the Mostess. Can’t have a playdate with out a snack and something to

drink. And you definitely can’t have something to drink without some really cool straws...gold striped straws that is. The gold striped straws are from Shannon with Painting Paris Pink. I love her shop! We needed something super cute to hold the popcorn. So I contacted Vanessa from Vanessa Grant Events and she sent the loveliest pink bags with hand glittered pumpkins on them. These were used for our popcorn containers. It was just the right touch needed for the table. I wanted a statement piece on the Activity Station, so I contacted Jordan from Designs by Jordan and he sent the most adorable wooden pumpkin that he cut and painted. I created a burlap rose covered pomander to go on the Activity station as well. I wanted to add a table of goodies for the children so I created an Activity station in lieu of a dessert table or candy buffet.

Laurel from Go Against the Grain sent the cutest little bags with glittered gold stripes. The children used these to keep their bling embellishments in. y boys love doing crafts so when my oldest son asked me about having a Halloween party a couple years back I decided to make it a Halloween Craft Party and we’ve been having them annually ever since. Our party guests are from the ages of 2-5 years old so I kept the crafts pretty simple but entertaining. They decorated a spooky house, a jack-o-lantern and make a frankenstein puppet. To eliminate any frustration I had everything pre-cut and built. The spooky houses were simply made of cardboard scraps and spray painted black, I had little windows and foam stickers for them to use to decorate. The jack-o-lanterns were foam and I cut out the face pieces from cardstock. The puppet was just a brown lunch bag and they glued cardstock and used a marker to mark eyes and scars. I set up lunch for them in these cute mini gable boxes and they also had
