We are delighted to announce that the new face of Every Model Magazine is Alize Mounter, Miss Every Model 2011. And our very first Mr Every Model is Luke Bellamy. I would like to personally welcome you both to the EM family and hope very much that you will enjoy the next twelve months with us. We wish you both the very best of luck in the Miss and Mr England finals on the 19th July.

This year saw over thirty contestants compete for the Miss and Mr Every Model titles at our grand final on June 4th. It was a pleasure to work with so many young, talented and beautiful people. To add to the delight of working with you, we have all been thrilled to bits to see you making friends with each other and keeping in touch after meeting in June.

Please read pages 8-13 for a full round up of the competition. And also pages 14-24 to see the stunning photo shoot with our winners taken by Alan Strutt for UK Model Folios. Please keep your letters and emails coming in as your input is invaluable to us.

We would also like to welcome our Miss Every Model runner up Kirsty Nichol to EM Magazine. A budding writer and journalist Kirsty has written our top tips column for us this issue. See page 26.

Photographers Profile Chris Harris Photography Hello Chris, how are you?

I’m very good thank you. Sitting with my laptop, a hot cup of tea and (generous) slice of cake, so generally happy.

1.Tell us a little bit about yourself and where you are based.

I’m a Fashion and Music photographer based in the Midlands, but I shoot nationally.

2.How would you describe your photography style?

Style? That’s a good question.

I don’t look at my work and particularly see one set style, you might disagree…?

I would like to think that I can adapt my style to create the look/feel I want to achieve within the brief/project etc.

3.What inspired you to start photography?

I did a GCSE art project when I was at school and this was the first time I used the camera to create art for the project. I used a friend’s dad’s camera and that was the beginning of the little obsession I have now.

4.Did you study photography?

I studied fine art at Nottingham Trent university and used photography and film as my output.

5.How long have you been working in photography Tinkered for a few years after university doing odd jobs here and there then set off full time in 2008.

6.How do you prepare for a shoot?

This really depends on the shoot totally, i.e. if its location based, studio or event based. I normally have a strong idea of what I want to shoot with about 90% of the final edit in my head or on paper somewhere, unless it’s an event and that’s a whole different ball game. I do like to be over prepared for things but sometimes you don’t know what will happen which can also spontaneously create great images.

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! You can really manipulate anything these days and create anything.

Possibly when I had the opportunity to shoot Will Young for his tour a few

Something with a bit of magic about it.

There will always be people with ‘an eye’ for photography but I think its just as important to have creative vision as this elevates people onto another level.

Every Model 2011 Final Arriving on a beautiful sunny morning in the county of Rutland were twenty three nervous Miss Every Model finalists and eight Mr Every Model finalists. Choreography with the wonderful Laura Coleman began almost immediately as the guys and girls became a model set of Grease The Movie heartthrobs. Soon enough the guys were grooving to ‘Greased Lightening’ and the girls showcased their swagger to, ‘You’re the one that I want’. Sexily clad in their shiny black cat suits the cast of EM and Grease started to relax and the show began to take shape.

With such a short time

available in one day to fully choreograph, practice and create a show with such a large number of contestants we were so proud of everyone for being so well mannered, gracious and full of team spirit. It was a delight to watch everyone becoming friends throughout the day.

All contestants were asked to arrive wearing no make-up. The heat publicly announced a week prior to the event that they were removing the use of excessive make-up, fake-tan and fake eyelashes from the contest. The theme of ‘beauty stripped back bare’ certainly allowed everyone to see how genuinely beautiful these

young contestants are without the need for cosmetic enhancement.

And they all agreed to and had a fabulous photograph taken in their natural form. See page 10.

After an informal interview round with the judging panel consisting of Fay Bacon of Celebrity Publicity, Terry Barratt of Red Kite, Kayleigh Hewitt, Miss Every Model 2010 and Kate Solomons of ModelZed Promotions, the contestants began to get ready for the evening performance.

Opening the show presented by the very gorgeous Kat Hodge, the nations Combat Barbie, Miss England 2009 and the first ever Miss Every Model in 2009, the contestants stormed the stage with their version

of the Grease Megamix medley.

Wearing black figure hugging cat suits for the girls and a smooth operator black tee and trousers for the guys, looking more than hot, the thirty one group strong hopefuls strutted their stuff.

The next round saw all contestants in sports wear. The girls in a tidy red and white Miss England themed cropped top and shorts ensemble and the guys in their chosen sports wear.

The audience and judges then got to know each contestant individually a little further as each one was announced on stage.

changed for the evening wear round. An eclectic mix of short and long dresses delivered an up to date, fashionable element to this traditional round of the Miss England contest.

The decision was then down to the judging panel to decide upon ten girls to go through to the final round. This was a really tough

choice but finally was drawn down to, Chloe Othen, Sophie Taylor, Annabel Bolton, Hannah Dennehy, Kirsty Nichol, Elisha Shield, Jessica Lockhart, Amelia Watt, Sarah Ashworth and Alize Mounter. The final ten were then interviewed on stage in order for the judges to be reminded of the multitude of attributes required of the winner.

Top Tips

EM Tips for Skincare The summer has finally arrived, BBQs fill the social calendar, the sun is shining and the opportunity to indulge in a little vino presents itself a little more often. Yet whilst enjoying the pleasures of summer we seem to neglect our beloved skin. Your skin is a reflection of your health, if you are lacking sleep, nourishment, or overindulging, your skin will be the first indicator of this. Being a successful model demands flawless skin and by reading our top ten tips you can discover how to achieve this with minimal effort and still enjoy yourself this summer.

1. Exfoliate

Exfoliating once or twice a week will instantly reveal a difference in your skin. Exfoliation cleans deep down removing impurities and dead skin cells. Invest in one for your face and another for your body. Try to choose an exfoliator with small beads as larger beads can aggravate the skin, alternatively simply use a normal shower gel with a loofah.

2. Routine

Getting into a skincare routine has numerous benefits, particularly for creating perfect modelesque make-up and maintaining beautiful skin all-year round. Keep the regime simple and try to incorporate a cleanser, toner, and moisturiser with at least an SPF of 15. Importantly choose products that are suitable for your skin type, an in-store skin expert will be able to determine whether you have, dry, oily, sensitive or combination skin and choose products for you accordingly.

3. Cigarettes & Alcohol

If you are a smoker think about quitting or at least cutting down.

Many models smoke believing it keeps the weight off. On the contrary, smoking rapidly ages and stains the skin grey. For quitting inspiration simply look at older ladies still puffing away and notice deeply ingrained wrinkles also known as “puffing lines” around the mouth and eyes. Also think about cutting down on alcohol which seriously dehydrates your skin.

Prolonged exposure to multiple units and bingeing will eventually take its toll on your skin. Ladies should try not to drink more than two to three units per week whilst men should opt for no more than three to four alcohol units per week. If you are going to drink ensure you incorporate glasses of water in-between alcoholic beverages. This will not only reduce dehydration but also reduce the likeliness of a horrible hangover the next morning.

4. Sun Protection

Sun damage dramatically ages

the skin and most of us only reach for the sun lotion on holiday or when the sun is beaming. Using a moisturiser with an SPF of 15 or more will uncover skin benefits for years to come. Don’t forget your skin is the body’s largest organ so avoid focusing on just your face. Lather sun cream on all areas of the body particularly focusing on those areas that are frequently exposed to the environment.

5. Diet

We have all been there, overindulging in the finer things of life and paying for it through blemished and dry skin. A little indulgence is fine every now and then but aim to incorporate fresh fruit and vegetables into your diet every day.

Foods rich in vitamin C such as blueberries are bursting with skin loving nutrition.

Make-Up

Great make-up starts with flawless skin, applying too much will clog your pores and create blemishes.

When covering blemishes remember less is more putting on loads foundation particularly on dry skin will create a cakey effect and instantly ruin your look. Opt for light bases such as a tinted moisturiser, 2 in 1’s are also great at saving you time. Above all never go to sleep with make-up on, your skin needs to breathe.

7. Handle with care

Treat your skin with respect.

Poking, popping, and pricking away at spots can cause scars so be gentle with your skin. If you have a spot apply a treatment and let it work its magic. Also take care when drying your face. Use a soft towel to pat rather than drag across your skin. If you really want to do that little bit extra for your skin then invest in a silk pillow to prevent any dragging across the face.

8. Sleep

Dark circles and puffy eyes are the result of little or no sleep. Aim for 6-8 hours every night to maintain bright peepers and an even complexion.

9. Water, Water, Water

This is the best tip anyone can give, aim to drink at least two litres of water every day, try it for 14 days and see your skin transform.

10. Count your Coppers

Finally remember that the elegantly dressed ladies on the luxury stands in department stores may be trained skincare specialists, but they will also be there to sell you a product. It is not necessary to take out a small loan to have great skin, check out the high street for a product that is right for you.

Rissikat Bade, 21, part-time model and full-time Law Student of London Southbank just recently crushed stereotypes and became Miss London 2011. The second black female to represent the capital and at the Miss England 2011 finals, Rissikat is overwhelmed and very excited about her future.

Nigerian Rissikat studied in

the Ukraine until she was sixteen before moving to Brixton in South London. Despite loving Eastern European life, Rissikat says London is where she finally felt settled. “I never knew anywhere like it. My favourite thing about London and the instantaneous feeling I had was the freedom of self-expression.

You can be who you are, wear what you want and no one batters an eyelid. For me being darker skinned, it was weird the first time I walked down a street in London not having every person look at me because I was black. I blended into the City’s multicultural society and it felt great.”

The Miss London competition was not an immediate option for Rissikat, “I never entered straightaway and in fact, the finalists had already been announced when I contacted Fay the pageant organiser 28

to see if I could still participate. Very kindly she arranged an audition for me the next day. It was a bit of a whirlwind. My boyfriend was the one that kept encouraging me to pursue the competition otherwise I’m not sure I would have had the confidence to, which seems ironic considering I’m a model that is very confident on the catwalk and with audiences etc.”

At 5’9”, 34-25-34, Miss London 2011 is a perfect catwalk model.

With pins and a bone structure to die for, it is no surprise she not only captured the hearts of the judges at the Miss London final but has also been the face of multiple fashion and editorial campaigns, “I have modelled nationally and internationally. I love it. I think my appeal stems from my multiracial look, although I’m full Nigerian people regularly ask me if I’m mixed race as they say I have a European

physique and features. This versatility helps because it appeals to lots of different brands and audiences. The same can be said for my hair. It is great for styling and I regularly switch between an iconic Afro to European straight hair.”

Despite her experience, even Rissikat has struggled to find an agent or representation generally that she is confident in, “Until now I haven’t had an official London model agent because there are so many frauds you do not always know who to trust. However since winning the competition I am now represented by Muse Management UK and my publicity will be handled

by Fay and her company Celebrity Publicity. I am also so excited to work with Alan Strutt as he is shooting my portfolio on behalf of UK Model Folios. I cannot believe I am lucky enough to be able to work with such great names in the industry and am

The opportunities offered by the Miss London and Miss England platforms are endless, and Rissikat hopes they will help her too, “I have a lot of aspirations; firstly, I believe I represent a multicultural and modern London society and this is what I will promote at the Miss England finals. Regarding my personal goals, obviously I dream of becoming Miss England but I hope the Miss London title will help to develop my career in modelling, TV presenting, acting and my love of writing.”

Speaking to Miss London pageant organiser and EM Columnist, Fay L. Bacon she gave us her opinion on Rissikat, “I am over the moon with the judges choice.

Obviously I am biased as I chose the finalists but all 22 women that competed were stunning and had

their individual talents, however I would be lying if I didn’t say Rissikat shined. She is an amazing looking woman that reflects the elements of London I feel are very important and I strived for my pageant to promote cultural diversity. I believe many women will be able to identify with her and will view beauty pageants and modelling in a far different light once they truly understand it isn’t just about being a 6’, skinny white blonde any more. Of course there are physical requirements to be a certain type of model e.g. height for fashion and these will no doubt remain, but still it shows we are pushing the boundaries now and ambassadors such as Rissikat prove this. I am truly excited about taking her to the Miss England finals and what the year ahead has in store for us both. I’ll be with her every step of the way.”

LC How did you get to be in the programme?

JC Well I had just left the army

and needed something to do for a couple of months. So a friend suggested I do some modelling and extra work. So I found a site called ‘Star Now’ online and set up a profile. Literally a couple of days later got asked if I would like to go

to a casting for the show, and one week later am in Newquay being filmed.

I can give anyone is diet. Its all about what you eat, ‘abs are made in the kitchen’.

LC So do you have a model agent?

JC For the show yes, but for me NO. hint, hint...

LC Do you get a lot of female attention?

JC While we were on the show I would say we got a lot of female and male attention. But having ten lads walking around with loads of camera crew, people are always going to be intrigued.

LC And after the show?

JC Erm... well I am still single.

LC Anything else you would personally like to add?

JC I would just like to say,

JC There are 10 Hunks in total

and everyone is completely different, be it personality or looks. As a whole we did get on.

I think everyone will be able to relate to at least one of the lads in the programme.

LC Have you made any

definitely, as we were the two lads that were new to the whole TV

thing. Sam is a student so that is his main priority at the moment.

control of how it is edited, so I just take everything with a pinch of salt. I would like to think that I was myself and wasn’t fake or didn’t play up for the cameras. With that being said I was with nine other lads so sometimes you get caught up maybe in the men mentality.

having to take our tops off, cover ourselves in baby oil and work out. I mean for a start who trains with there tops off, and secondly covered in baby oil. Really?

LC Where do you think your career will go after this?

JC Who knows? Your guess is as

good as mine. I mean hopefully up, up and more up. I just take a day at time.

please watch it with an open mind. Its called The Hunks but remember that everyone’s perceptions of ‘A Hunk’ is different. I feel its the funniness that people will really like plus you get an insight into what men really think, and if women understand men better, hopefully that will mean that one day men will be able to understand women.

LC Do other men get jealous of you?

JC I am not sure. I always get

lads coming up to me saying stuff like ‘that’s just steroids mate’ which is annoying as I have never taken them, so I would take that as jealousy. I don’t mind friendly banter so I will reply ‘don’t hate me mate, appreciate’.

Fays Column…

Wow, since my last column I have been on a work-whirlwind; between the Miss London 2011 pageant, preparing my stunning winner, Rissikat Bade for the Miss England finals, shooting this month’s Every Model cover and producing cover shoots for Hello magazine I am one busy bee.

A couple of things to draw

your attention to in this month’s Every Model issue – firstly, the stunning cover shoot and inside spread shot

by Alan Strutt for UK Model Folios, produced and directed by myself and of course, Every Model editor Ruth Deane. I think you’ll agree the pictures are amazing and shed a really different, edgy light on the magazine. This was a great shoot to be involved with as I was one of the judges on this year’s Miss and Mr Every Model panel, and placed both candidates as the winners so seeing them first-hand in action really confirmed I had made the right decision. I think both Alize and Luke are incredibly photogenic, stunning models and wish them every luck at the Miss and Mr England finals, plus for the year ahead.

Another feature in this month’s Every Model is my winner of Miss London 2011, Rissikat Bade.

Despite an incredibly hectic and stressful eight weeks organising the pageant, seeing such an amazing winner crowned was worth every second and more. I would like to say a huge thanks to my panel of amazing judges that included celebrity photographer Alan Strutt, millionairess entrepreneur and model Lady Angelina Sinclair, and Every Model’s Ruth Deane for selecting such a fabulous winner.

Rissikat shone at her semi-final audition and continued to do so throughout rehearsals and at the final, and the more I work with her I can vouch her professionalism and naturally gifted talents as a model, writer, TV presenter and

actress. It shows she truly deserves to be going to the finals of Miss England and will be an amazing Miss London. Rissikat’s story alone is inspirational and makes for a great read so be sure to check her out and take note of the amazing pictures shot by Antony Michael for UK Model Folios at Rissikat’s semi-final Miss London audition.

August will see me working hard on calendars with calendar season starting again in September (ahhh, this year is going too quickly!).
