The advent of the Internet has made the job of sourcing inspiration and ideas incredibly easy for designers. In response the web has become a home to a huge amount of design blogs, acting as one extensive and ever expanding digital scrapbook of visual culture. However due to ongoing observations, it is quite noticeable that there is a great overlap in the content posted on a daily basis, as each blog is ‘uniquely subjective’ when it comes to the type of work they post. However the ‘motivation behind posting is universal: the cultural gain of sharing content.’ (Dreyer, 2013) Zita and Sloboda agree, as they run the online portal Trend list (Fig.13), which established itself based on the movements of the international blog scene. They believe that ‘the Internet and it’s associated social networks and blogs are so wide spread that they’re able to create and dictate trends.’ (Kubíková, 2013)

The main focus to Tumblr is liking and re-blogging posts. Re-blogging content from other blogs forms a fascinatingly ‘dynamic Chinese whisper of visual culture.’

Geographically, the intellectual origins of the most challenging trend setting work found on Trend List are created in the European countries of Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands. Perhaps the origins of the work also have something to do with the fact that these countries provide the support for young designers to be experimental - it’s a rather different matter if you are leaving college with £20,000 of debt. Commercially viable work, in those circumstances, has its attractions and not too many brands, as yet, are in the market for 3D stretched Arial. Trends + Design Platforms
Blogs and Platforms have become filtering mechanisms that people tend to only pay attention to, as they are most applicable to them. This theory can also be applied to how people stick to the same design journals and magazines. Which implies that trendsetters only trust certain resources that in time have gained their respect. Due to this, blogs and journals that are providing creatives with a source that are allowing trend orientated groups of people to retreat into an insular world inhabited by only like- minded people. To the right shows four browsers that illustrate four seperate individual behance appreciation pages. It is interesting to see how they are all looking at very similar content, and in some cases the same projects. Two projects in particular are very similar (The rubber gloves and the still life of a pink hand) Both use the same pastel colours and similar photographic styles.
