Board 1 : Initial Research

Located in Leeds’ vibrant Northern Quarter, Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen first opened its doors in 1934 as Leeds Children’s Palace, a 3-storey recreation hall and nursery school built to provide childcare support for the working families of Leeds. After many years of neglect the building has been restored to its former glory and reopened under the name Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen with a hope that it will provide artists and performers with a unique new platform in one of the UK’s most creative cities. Spread over three floors the venue comprises two bars, two kitchens, a 200 capacity event space and a spectacular roof terrace. We host live music, comedy, film and art exhibitions and serve fresh, canteen style food, amazing cask ales and premium craft beers as well as frozen cocktails and a wide range of teas and coffees. WIFI is, of course, free.

Examples of Identity, branding, signage, promotional material and website for Leeds venue, Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen by Catalogue as a visual reference to the venue. However due to this style being already established within the venue (as well as not wanting to rip Catalogue off) I plan to go for a different visual route.

Board 3 : Design development

The brief was a quick turn around project therefore I had to work fast as I was against the clock. Leeds college of music were hosting a mini street food festival at Belgrave Music Hall and they were in need of a poster. I produced some vector illustrations based on the food which is served at a street food festival, as well as limiting myself to a scrict colour pallette. The style of illustrations I went for is quite plaful and niave.

Board 4 : Developing posters

I designed the posters to A2 and sent them off to Leeds College Of Music, I had a few problems with them, as they seemed to take an under minding tone with me and I recieved a very late payment. Despite this I tried to be as professional as I could and politely answered to their emails and quickly changed amendments. The amendments were to do with the typeface, as they wanted something more ‘hip’ sadly I had to apply a Lost Type Foundary to the poster, a decision I personally didn’t reconmend.
