¿Qué es la vida sino un puro y continuo intercambio? Ideas, pensamientos, emociones o sentimientos que compartimos con los demás por la vía del lenguaje y del gesto. La comunicación, que va de la mano de la incomunicación, es un tema serio y desconcertante, generador de disputas y malos entendidos, pero también generador de situaciones absurdas y divertidas. Aprendemos las palabras, sus significados, sus conjugaciones, construcciones... sin embargo esto no implica necesariamente que cada persona entienda lo mismo: la comunicación implica interpretación.

El proyecto EXCHANGE indaga en este tema a partir de una investigación cuyo eje es el arte de acción, partiendo de la “partitura” (o guión) de performance como mensaje que debe ser interpretado. La esencia del proyecto consiste, por tanto, en intercambiar partituras de performances para ser “interpretadas” y accionadas por diferentes artistas.

Asimismo, en EXCHAGE investigamos sobre el intercambio de procesos y maneras de hacer y entender el arte.

EXCHANGE es un proyecto que incluye acciones en vivo, exposiciones, documentación fotográfica y de vídeo acciones, debates y talleres. Consta de diversas fases y “versiones”, tratándose de un proyecto vivo y en crecimiento.

EXCHANGE ha sido acogido durante el 2013: en el Museo Vostell Malpartida, uno de los espacios referentes del arte de acción en nuestro país, en Sierra Centro de Arte en Huelva, en Espacio b y Espíritu 23 en Madrid y Enclave Granada. En el 2014 viaja a Oslo gracias a la beca EEA de la embajada de Noruega y a Finlandia donde durante dos meses las creadoras y artistas del proyecto desarrollan un residencia artística en Saari de la Fundación Koneen.

What is life but a pure and continuous exchange? Ideas, thoughts, emotions or feelings that we share with the other by the track of the language and gesture. The communication, which goes hand in hand with the isolation, is a serious issue and disconcerting, generator of disputes and misunderstandings, but also funny and absurd situations. We learn the words, their meanings, their conjugations, constructions ... however this does not necessarily mean that each person understands the same thing: “the communication involves interpretation”.

The EXCHANGE project explores this topic from a research whose axis is the art of action, based on the “score” (or dash) performance as a message that should be interpreted. The essence of the idea is, therefore, to invite artists to send scores of performances which we exchanged for that other artists might interpret and perform.

Exchange is a project that includes alive actions, exhibitions, photo documentation and video actions, discussions and workshops. It consists of various stages and “versions”, when dealing with a project alive and growing. Also, EXCHANGE researchs about exchanging processes and methods of working and understanding art creation.

During this 2013 EXCHANGE has been hosted: in the Malpartida´s Vostell Museum, one of the spaces on the art of action in our country, Sierra Art Center space at Huelva, Space b and Space 23 at Madrid and Enclave at Granada. During 2014 EXCHANGE travel´s to Oslo supported by the EEA Grant from Norway Embassy. And to Finland, two months artist residence with the creators of the project at Saari residence support by the Koneen Foundation.

El sábado 4 de mayo del 2013, en el Museo Vostell Malpartida, disfrutamos de cuatro acciones en vivo por parte de cuatro artistas. La misma acción se realizo dos veces: una por su autor y la otra por su intérprete, a quienes también podríamos llamar creador 1 y 2.

Desde una misma partitura, asistímos a dos versiones que nos permitieron apreciar los diferentes matices, sensibilidades y riqueza de cada creador.

Para esta ocasión, invitamos a dos reconocidos artistas de acción a nivel internacional –Bartolomé Ferrando y Willem Willhelmus- a que nos hicieran llegar sendas partituras de una acción, que fueron enviadas a dos importantes performers españolas -Belén Cueto y Koke Vega-.

On Saturday May 4th 2013, in the Vostell Malpartida Museum, we enjoyed four alive actions by these four artists. The same action is perform twice: once by his author and the other by her interpreter, who we could also call creator 1 and 2. From the same score, attended two versions that have enabled us to appreciate the different nuances, sensitivities and richness of each creator.

For this occasion, we invite two renowned international artists of action art -Bartolomé Ferrando and Willem Willhelmus - to elaborate scores of an action, which were sent to two important spanish performers -Belén Cueto and Koke Vega-.

Tomo mi brazo izquierdo y trazo una línea en el brazo con el rotulador hacia la mano cuando el rotulador toca el interior de mi mano lo agarro y lo mantengo apretado con la mano derecha me envuelvo un papel alrededor de la mano con el rotulador y guío la mano envuelta hacia y sobre mi cuerpo y hacia el suelo donde dejo el papel arrugado y me rindo a otro nuevo papel y garabateo algunas palabras o algunas líneas o algunos dibujos de la historia que tengo en mente entregando más y más papeles marcándolos palabras, líneas, garabatos arrugándolos todos hasta que la historia es contada

PARTITURA DE BARTOLOMÉ FERRANDO INTÉRPRETE BELÉN CUETO ACCIÓN 1 -En la primera, el performer comenzaría con los brazos en cesta, llenos de hilos pequeños, papeles pequeños, hojas o pequeñas ramas, que iría poco a poco, muy lentamente, dejando caer por el suelo mientras camina -El recorrido que hiciera quedaría así sembrado de hilos, hojas y ramas hasta que ya no tuviera nada sobre los brazos -A continuación, se daría la vuelta y “recitaría” el camino sembrado, interpretando cada una de las líneas producidas como si de una partitura “musical” se tratara ACCIÓN 2 -Antes de iniciar la acción, se repartirían pañuelos de papel a todos los participantes -Se pediría a todos los participantes que se sonaran a la vez, a cada señal del performer.

Se pediría hacer una prueba general -El performer iniciará la lectura del poema fonético que adjunto, y hara una pausa donde le parezca bien. Tras cada una de las pausas que haga, pedirá al público que se suene (a todo el público. Todos se sonarían a la vez en cada ocasión) -La acción durará hasta el final del recitado del texto adjunto. El performer hará todas las pausas que quiera.

SCORE OF BARTOLOMÉ FERRANDO INTERPRETER BELÉN CUETO ACTION 1 -In the first, the performer would begin with arms basket? , full of small wires, small papers, leaves and small branches, which would be dropping little by little on the ground while walking -The route would be strewn by wires, leaves and branches until he/she had nothing on the arms -Then, he/she would turn around and “recite” the path strewn, interpreting each line produced as “musical” score ACTION 2 -Before starting the action, tissues will be distributed to all participants - He/she would ask all participants to simultaneously blow their nose, to every sign of the performer. Would be required to make a general test -The performer will start reading phonetic poem attached, and will make a pause where he/she pleases. After each breaks, he/she will ask the public to blow their nose (to the public. Everyone would blow at a time on each occasion) -The action will last until the end of the recitation of the aforementioned attached text.

The performer will do all the breaks he/she wants.

Animadora del arte experimental y la poesía de acción en Extremadura, Koke Vega (León, 1963) es licenciada en Bellas Artes por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid.

En los últimos años ha venido trabajando la imagen digital, el vídeo experimental, la instalación y el arte-acción. Ha realizado instalaciones para Foro Sur y para el Festival de Teatro Clásico de Mérida. Sus obras son meditaciones poético-visuales (a menudo irónicas), sobre la condición humana y su fenomenología.

En otro ámbito, es editora de la publicación LABOLSA: Revista de acciones y videocreación y ha organizado eventos como Pleno extraordinario (jornadas de poesía experimental hispano-lusa, en las que artistas de acción ocuparon el hemiciclo de la Asamblea de Extremadura, 2005) e Influxus (Taller- Encuentro de vídeo-acción y vídeo-creación en el Museo Vostell Malpartida, 2007 y 2009). Asimismo, ha comisariado la exposición colectiva multimedia Nueva Carpeta, promovida por el IMEX (Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Mérida, 2006), y ha coordinado el primer encuentro sobre arte experimental interactivo Interac (Cáceres, 2010). www.kokevega.com

Koke Vega (León, 1963) is a driving force of the experimental art and the action poetry produced in Extremedura; she has a Fine Arts degree at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid. She works on digital image, experimental video, installation and action art recently. She produced installations for Foro Sur and the Festival of the Classical Theatre of Mérida. Her works are (frequently ironic) poetic-visual meditations on the human condition and its phenomenology.

Koke Vega is the editor of the publication LABOLSA: Revista de acciones y videocreación; she has also coordinated events like Pleno extraordinario (Spanish-Portuguese event taking place at the Parliament of Extremadura, 2005) and Influxus (workshop-meeting of action-video and video art, at Museo Vostell Malpartida, 2007 and 2009). In addition, she curated the multimedia group exhibition Nueva Carpeta, promoted by IMEX (Mérida Exhibition and Congress Centre, 2006) and coordinated the first edition of Interac, experimental interactive art convention (Cáceres, 2010).

Willem Wilhelmus (1951) ha presentado su trabajo desde 1999 en festivales, eventos y en el espacio público. Remitiéndonos únicamente a los últimos tres años, podemos destacar su participación en Deformes 2012 (Centro Cultural de Palacio Moneda, Santiago de Chile), Rapid Pulse (Gallery Defibrillator, Chicago), InfrAction Venetia (Accademia de Bellas Artes, Venice), Transmuted, (Exteresa, México D.F.), Guangzhou Live (53 Art Museum, Guangzhou), DakArt, Bienal de Dakar (Musée Théodore Monod d’Art Africain, Dakar) o la performance realizada junto a Tomasz Szrama titulada “Not Ready Yet” (Studio Gallery Jangva, Helsinki).

Willem Wilhelmus ha comisariado desde 2004 más de sesenta eventos y festivales en Finlandia, principalmente en Helsinki. También ha ofrecido conferencias y talleres en numerosas instituciones artísticas internacionales, principalmente en el Centro de Iniciativas Culturales de la Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad Austral de Chile (Valdivia, Chile), Arts² (École Supérieure des Arts, Mons, Bélgica), Svefi, Sverigefinska Folkhögskolan (Haparanda, Suecia) y TEAK (Helsinki, Finlandia).

Since 1999 Willem Wilhelmus (1951) has presented his works at festivals, events or in public space. Belén Cueto (Madrid, 1971) se infiltra en la vida cotidiana tomando sus hábitos más rutinarios como herramientas e intentando revisar tendencias vitales para cuestionar la inercia que nos lleva a repetir modelos que no nos satisfacen.

Habitualmente trabaja tanto a nivel individual como colectivo, habiendo formado parte de experiencias creativas como el grupo de creación experimental Circo Interior Bruto (1999/05). Belén Cueto (Madrid, 1971) goes through her daily life making use of her routine as a tool; she aims to examine vital tendencies in order to question the apathy that leads us towards the repetition of unsatisfying role models.

She normally works either solo or as a member of groups; for instance she joined the experimental group Circo Interior Bruto from 1999 to 2005. Her work produced from 1996 onwards has been presented at De Fijo a Móvil, Contenedores Muestra Internacional de Arte de Acción de Sevilla, La Casa Encendida´s Veranos Escénicos, Do it your self, INTERAKCJE International Art Festival (Poland), Acción! 08MAD, Turin International Biennale, Encuentro Bienal de Lanzarote, Dentro Fuera, La Revista Caminada, Matadero Madrid and New Art Contact Festival (Finland), among many others .

Valencia, 1951 Bartolomé Ferrando (Valencia, 1951) es uno de los performers y poetas visuales españoles de referencia internacional que, además, desarrolla una intensa labor docente como titular de la asignatura Performance y Arte Intermedia, en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de Valencia Como performer participa en diversos Festivales y Encuentros de performance y poesía de acción celebrados en Europa, Israel, Canadá, México, Estados Unidos, Japón, Corea, Vietnam, Singapur, China, Argentina, Venezuela, República Dominicana y Chile.

Es el responsable de diversos Festivales internacionales de performance en el IVAM, el MNCARS y en el EACC. Forma parte de los grupos Flatus Vocis Trío, Taller de Música Mundana y Rojo, dedicados al desarrollo de prácticas creativas situadas a medio camino entre la música, la poesía y el arte de acción.

Además de coordinar la revista experimental Texto Poético, ha publicado varios libros de poesía y material sobre su actividad performativa en diversos soportes. www.bferrando.net

Bartolomé Ferrando (Valencia, 1951) is one of the Spanish performance artists and visual poets better considered internationally; he also develops an intense educational work at the Facultad de Bellas Artes in Valencia, lecturing on Performance and Intermedia Art. As performance artist he has been invited to a wide range of festivals and conferences on performance art and action poetry taking place in Europe, Israel, Canada, Mexico, USA, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, China, Argentina, Venezuela, Dominican Republic and Chile.

He curated some international performance festivals at the IVAM, the MNCARS and the EACC. He is a former member of the groups Flatus Vocis Trio, Taller de Música Mundana and Rojo, all of them focused on creative practices placed halfway between music, poetry and action art.

He is the coordinator of the experimental magazine Texto Poético and has also published several books, on different formats, concerning poetry and his performance art work.

Su obra siempre ha estado vinculada al arte de acción. Ha sido expuesta en museos, galerías y espacios alternativos, tanto a nivel nacional como internacional.

Sus performances han viajado por España, Francia, Inglaterra, México, Italia, Alemania, Polonia, Japón, Croacia, Hungria y Portugal. En festivales como Interajcke, Preavis, Emergência, Accion!MAD entre otros.

En su experiencia como gestora y fotógrafa destacar los proyectos: ELCarromato, espacio multidiscipinar y estudio fotógrafico. Y los actuales ARTóN y MATSU, espacio dedicado a la creación contemporánea, fotografía, naturaleza y docencia.

Isabel León Artista, gestora independiente y docente.

Su obra ha evolucionado desde la fotografía y el vídeo hasta el arte de acción.

Ha participado en numerosos festivales y encuentros de arte de acción, en los que cabría destacar PoesiAcción!, NauEstruch, Acción!MAD, Influxus I y II, La Muga Caula, entre otros.

Tiene una amplia experiencia en el ámbito de la gestión, a resaltar la creación del Colectivo HATAJO (ahora: “Enclave de Acción”) y la produción del Festival Cabezabajo.

Desarrolla una investigación en torno a la enseñanza del arte de acción, impartiendo talleres en diferentes centros e instituciones.

Her work has evolved from photography and video to performance art.

In her experience as art managing projects underline: “Hatajo Group” (now Enclave de Acción) and the production of the International Festival Cabezabajo held in Granada in June 2011.

She has taken part in numerous performance festivals and events, such us, Abierto de Acción, PoesiAcción!, NauEstruch, Acción!MAD09, Influxus I y II, La Muga Caula among others.

She is developing a research project on the teaching of performance art, giving workshops at various centres and institutions.

Her work has always been linked to action art. Has been exposed in museums, galleries and alternative spaces, both at national and international level.
