At just 20 years old, Carlos Alcaraz has just made history at Wimbledon 2023 by beating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling 5-set final. Despite his young age, Alcaraz says that professionally speaking, he’s not afraid of anyone. “I can continue to make history, and I can beat any player”

irst of all, we’d like to congratulate him, and wish him all the best to continue reaping many more successes in his promising career.
And with the positive start of this marvellous headline, during the hot summer, I encourage you to follow his example, and make sure you give your time the value it deserves. Invest it in yourselves, and motivate yourselves once again to achieve your goals in life. The world is full of people who want to reap the fruits of seeds they’ve never sown; the easy life, no sacrifices, no dedication, never reading, only interested in new technologies, social networks, television... Nowadays, these trends are a waste of people’s time. Building wealth involves all kinds of risks, and means you must be willing to constantly challenge yourself. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting the same results you’ve always got. So it’s up to you whether you stay in your comfort zone, or risk stepping outside it to aim for much bigger goals. All the great entrepreneurs and top personalities throughout history have believed enough in themselves and their ideas to take action. When people don’t believe in themselves, they tend to make excuses for not taking action. Focus on working on yourself, so as to develop the self-confidence and personal skills needed to face the challenge of starting and managing a business project. The idea may not be an immediate success, but if you’re full of determination and self-confidence, you’ll keep fighting until you achieve your goal.

Unveiling the Beauty of Natural and Organic Skincare: THE PATH TO HEALTHY AND RADIANT SKIN In recent years, there has been a growing shift in consumer consciousness towards natural and organic skincare products. People are increasingly seeking alternatives to synthetic and chemicalladen beauty products, recognizing the importance of nourishing their skin with ingredients derived from nature. Natural and organic skincare not only supports our well-being but also promotes environmental sustainability. In this article, we will explore the benefits of natural and organic skincare and why it has become a popular choice for individuals seeking healthy, radiant skin. Natural skincare refers to products made primarily from ingredients sourced directly from nature, such as plant extracts, essential oils, and botanicals. Organic skincare takes it a step further by using ingredients that are certified organic, meaning they are grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

BENEFITS OF NATURAL AND ORGANIC SKINCARE
•
NOURISHMENT FOR THE SKIN: Natural and organic skincare products harness the power of botanical extracts, vitamins, and antioxidants. These ingredients offer a plethora of benefits, including hydration, improved texture, and protection against environmental stressors. By utilizing plant-based ingredients, natural skincare products can provide the skin with essential nutrients that promote a healthy and vibrant complexion.
• AVOIDANCE OF HARMFUL CHEMICALS: Conventional skincare products often contain synthetic chemicals, including parabens, phthalates, and sulfates, which can potentially irritate the skin and disrupt our body’s hormonal balance. Natural and organic skincare formulations prioritize the exclusion of these harmful substances, making them gentler and safer for regular use.

• SENSITIVE SKIN-FRIENDLY: Many individuals with sensitive skin find relief in natural and organic skincare. The absence of harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances reduces the likelihood of irritation and allergic reactions. Natural skincare ingredients, such as chamomile, aloe vera, and calendula, possess soothing properties that calm sensitive skin and promote its healing. • ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: Choosing natural and organic skincare also demonstrates a commitment to environmental sustainability. Organic farming practices promote biodiversity, protect soil quality, and reduce pollution. Additionally, the use of sustainable packaging, such as glass bottles or recycled materials, minimizes the environmental impact associated with traditional beauty products. Natural and organic skincare has emerged as a preferred choice for individuals who prioritize their skin’s health, environmental sustainability, and overall well-being. By utilizing the power of nature’s botanicals and avoiding harmful chemicals, these products offer a gentle yet effective approach to skincare. Embracing natural and organic skincare not only allows us to achieve healthy and radiant skin but also aligns with our values of promoting a more sustainable and compassionate world.

The eye area looks rested and fresh. Some products like the CBD eye cream contain Cannabidoil with skin calming properties. Refreshes the skin around the eyes, providing immediate comfort and hydration. Harnessing the Power of Cannabidiol (CBD) in Skincare: A New Frontier for Radiant and Balanced Skin. In recent years, the skincare industry has witnessed the rise of a remarkable ingredient-cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD. Derived from the cannabis plant, CBD has garnered significant attention for its potential therapeutic benefits and its application in skincare. In this article, we delve into the world of CBD-infused skincare, exploring its properties, benefits, and the science behind its growing popularity as a natural and effective ingredient for achieving healthy and balanced skin. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. It is extracted from hemp, a variety of cannabis with minimal levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component. CBD contains potent antioxidants and possesses anti-inflammatory, soothing, and hydrating properties. When incorporated into skincare products, CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, helping to restore balance and promote overall skin health. BENEFITS OF CBD-INFUSED SKINCARE:
•
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND SOOTHING PROPERTIES: CBD exhibits powerful anti-inflammatory properties, making it an excellent ingredient for calming skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. By reducing inflammation, CBD can alleviate redness, irritation, and itching, helping to restore the skin’s natural balance.
•
ANTIOXIDANT PROTECTION: CBD is rich in antioxidants, which help combat free radicals, unstable molecules that contribute to premature aging and skin damage. By neutralizing free radicals, CBD-infused skincare products can help minimize the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging, promoting a youthful complexion.
•
HYDRATION AND MOISTURE RETENTION: CBD has moisturizing properties that can help improve the skin’s hydration levels. It helps regulate the skin’s oil production, making it suitable for both dry and oily skin types. CBD-infused products can help nourish and replenish the skin’s moisture barrier, leaving it hydrated, supple, and radiant.
• ACNE MANAGEMENT: CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties, coupled with its ability to regulate sebum production, make it a promising ingredient for managing acne-prone skin. By reducing inflammation and controlling excess oil, CBD can help prevent clogged pores and minimize breakouts, promoting clearer and healthier-looking skin. •
CALMING EFFECTS ON SENSITIVE SKIN: Individuals with sensitive skin often experience irritation and redness. CBD’s soothing properties can provide relief to sensitive skin, reducing discomfort and promoting a calmer complexion. Its gentle nature makes it suitable for those with easily irritated skin.
• STRESS RELIEF AND SELF-CARE: Beyond its topical benefits, incorporating CBD-infused skincare into your routine can offer a sense of relaxation and stress relief. The act of self-care, combined with the potential calming effects of CBD, can contribute to an overall sense of well-being. CBD-infused skincare has emerged as an exciting and promising avenue in the quest for healthy and balanced skin. With its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and soothing properties, CBD offers numerous benefits for various skin concerns, including acne, inflammation, dryness, and aging. As the scientific understanding of CBD continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative skincare formulations harnessing the potential of this natural compound. So, explore the world of CBD-infused skincare and unlock the power of nature for radiant and revitalized skin. The Bijan365 CBD eye cream and the Bijan365 CBD oil booster both contain 1% Cannabidoil and deliver impressing results.

ELM AT HOME WITH...
What first brought you to Marbella? “Originally from Romania, I’d already had the privilege of living and working in various European countries, and I came to Marbella seeking a change of pace and a new experience. I’d heard so many wonderful things about the area, and was immediately drawn to the stunning scenery and laid-back lifestyle. I took a leap of faith and made the move without knowing anyone or much about the area, but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I’ve been able to explore different industries and cultures, meet new people, and truly embrace living in a unique and beautiful place.” How did you start out in the world of hospitality? “Starting out, I worked in restaurants across Germany and Italy, as well as in London. Each country had its own unique customs, styles, and expectations, which required me to adapt quickly and learn on my feet. I was exposed to a variety of roles and responsibilities, from cooking and serving food to managing events and running a whole team of people. These experiences ultimately led me to develop a deep passion for the hospitality industry.” Why did you decide to create Dani’s Catering? “My journey to starting a business in Spain began with a desire for change and a willingness to take a risk. After doing some research and seeing the untapped potential in the Marbella market, I decided to start my own business providing unique catering services that blended traditional Spanish cuisine with a modern twist. It wasn’t easy, especially without investors or a safety net, but I was determined to see my vision through.” EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 43

Everyone speaks very highly of your company. What’s your secret? “Thank you for your kind words. We’ve worked hard to establish our company in the industry, and are committed to providing the highest possible level of service. One of the secrets to our success is our focus on building strong relationships with our clients. We listen carefully to their desires and preferences, and tailor our services to meet their needs. Ultimately, we believe that our success is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team.” What challenges do you face in catering, and how do you overcome them? “One of the primary challenges for a catering company is coordinating all the moving parts that go into each event, but this can be overcome by having a well-organized system in place, clear communication channels among the team members, and regular training to ensure that everyone is on the same page.” What plans do you have for the future? “Our main focus is to establish ourselves as a highly regarded and sought-after brand in Marbella and Malaga, but I have the vision of expanding Dani’s Catering to other parts of Spain and eventually venturing into other European countries. Ultimately, my goal is to establish Dani’s Catering as a leading name in the catering industry, known for our exceptional service, culinary expertise, and innovative approach. One of the aspects I find particularly inspiring is the diverse range of restaurant concepts and cuisines available. The culinary scene here is vibrant and constantly evolving. Being surrounded by such creativity and innovation pushes me to continually improve and refine our proposals at Dani’s Catering.” Daniela Gabriela Rosu Danis Catering Marbella WhatsApp 0034602687187 @danis_catering_marbella

rank Gehry, born Frank Owen Goldberg, in Toronto, Canada, into a Jewish family of Russian and Polish descent. His father was a travelling salesman and his mother was a music and art enthusiast.
He started out working at Victor Gruen Associates, and after completing his military service, he was admitted to Harvard as a student of urban planning. In 1961, already married with two children, he moved to Paris to work in Rémondt’s studio, where he spent a year immersing himself in the work of the top European architects. A PERSONAL STYLE By the time he returned to Los Angeles, Frank Gehry had already decided to found his own architecture studio and to begin developing his personal and easily recognisable architectural style. Striking architecture, with unfinished materials and simple geometric forms, causing a strong visual impact on those who contemplate his work on the skyline. The warmth of his designs and the sensitivity that his buildings transmit are supported by the use of volumes and materials used in the façades, where metal becomes one of his favourite tools to achieve the harmony and structural design that characterise him.
Even as a child, Frank demonstrated a high degree of creativity. Encouraged by his grandmother, he would build model cities out of materials from his grandfather’s hardware store. Wire bridges and plywood buildings were his first constructions.
Frank Gehry has always defended the idea that architecture should be considered an art. He believes that once a building is finished, it becomes a work of art, as if it were a sculpture. And all this, while never neglecting to integrate his works into the surroundings in which they are located.
As a teenager, he moved with his parents to Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in architecture, changed his name to Frank Gehry as a result of suffering anti-Semitism in his childhood, and obtained American citizenship.
CHARACTERISTIC WORKS Among Gehry’s works, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, with a 24,000 m2 surface, is the clearest example of avant-garde architecture. Located next to the estuary, it has become the city’s greatest landmark.

Other characteristic buildings are the headquarters of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, where the architect takes on the role of sculptor, transforming architecture into a celebration. The public only has to see them to know that they were built under his direction, with the added value of always keeping in mind the function of the building. In the case of the Philharmonic Orchestra’s headquarters, this is bringing music to the city, while Disney Concert Hall serves as a meeting place for Hollywood stars. Ron Davis’s house in Malibu, the California Aerospace Museum, the University of Toledo’s Centre for the Visual Arts (Ohio), and his skyscrapers in Manhattan are more of his most acclaimed works. Married to Berta Isabel Aguilera since 1975, and father of Alejandro, Brina, Samuel and Leslie, Gehry is a self-professed enthusiast of Le Corbusier’s architecture and French Romanesque churches. His striking architecture has earned him the prestigious Pritzker Architecture Prize, comparable to the Nobel Prize, and the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. These accolades have not affected his down-to-earth, friendly nature. When asked what he aims to achieve with his designs, Gehry answers simply and plainly: “I don’t want to do architecture that’s dry and dull.”

harlize Theron was born on 7th August 1975 in Benoni, South Africa. From an early age, she showed a great passion for the performing arts, which led her to study classical ballet. However, her life took an unexpected turn when, at the age of 15, her mother shot and killed her father to defend her. Charles Theron, who was an alcoholic, had come home drunk, assaulted his wife and threatened his daughter. The judge ruled the homicide as self-defence, and Charlize’s mother was acquitted of all charges, but the traumatic event made Theron determined to seek a better life away from her hometown. ONE-WAY TICKET TO HOLLYWOOD With her dazzling beauty and talent as her only resume, Theron set off for Hollywood, the land of opportunity, with a one-way ticket. While doing her weekly grocery shopping, she had a fortuitous argument with a cashier. Talent agent John Crosby, who happened to witness the scene, handed her a card, amazed by the young girl’s self-confidence, and thus began a period of castings that gained her a foothold with supporting roles. Her big break came in 1997, with The Devil’s Advocate, which was a huge box-office success, and in which she sta58 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE

Her most noteworthy films also include Monster, released in 2003, which won her several awards, including the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Actress. Critics said that what really sets her apart is her ability to immerse herself in each character and bring them to life in a way that is as realistic as it is moving. A year later, the actress appeared in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, which earned her another Golden Globe nomination, and then North Country, for which she was again nominated for a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Actress. Moreover, Charlize Theron has left an indelible mark on the film industry with her fearlessness in action scenes, as shown in films such as Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde, in which she plays strong, empowered women. STRONG SOCIAL COMMITMENT Apart from her success in films, Charlize has used her worldwide fame to advocate for the rights of women and disadvantaged groups. As founder of the charity “Charlize

Her social commitment has also made her a champion of gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights, proving that movie stars can be the best ambassadors for the changes needed in society. But if there is one thing the actress is particularly proud of, it is her motherhood. In 2012 she adopted her son Jackson, who today identifies as a woman. The press discovered this fact when, in 2019, the actress said she was “proud of her daughter”. In this regard, on numerous occasions Theron has stressed the importance of raising her children in an environment that fosters inclusion and respect.

ELM CHEF He has worked in different restaurants in London and Paris. His time in France influenced him to such an extent that today it is still evident in the structure of his dishes. Once back in his beloved Marbella, in 2008 he took over the kitchen of El Lago Restaurant, the doyen of Michelin-starred gastronomy in the city. Undoubtedly, this was a significant period in his professional career, in which his expertise maintained the Michelin Star for eight consecutive years. In 2019, he landed the position of Executive Chef at Boho Club, a luxury resort in the heart of the Golden Mile, formerly the Swedish Forest Centre. From the beginning, Diego knew how to adapt his cuisine to the philosophy and needs of the hotel complex, while never losing his

At Boho Club, the Malaga-born chef displays his talent, creativity and passion for Andalusian cuisine and local produce. How does Diego del Río define himself and his cuisine? “I’m still the same person, that boy full of curiosity when he set foot in a kitchen for the first time and found himself immediately hooked. But of course, now I’m more mature, and I have a much greater clarity of vision. Diego del Río’s cuisine is a sensible cuisine rooted in the land, a straightforward cuisine that suits all palates.” What stage of your professional career do you think has had the greatest influence on your cooking? “There are two stages in my life that have marked my professional career. The first was in Paris, where I learnt respect for the product, as well as the sensitivity the French show when it comes to cooking and plating. But the best thing of all is how proud they are of their cuisine, their products; their chefs are self-respecting and patriotic. I think we still have a long way to go in Spain. Our cuisine is tasty, full-flavoured. Creativity abounds, and most importantly, all the civilisations that have passed through the peninsula have left their mark on our recipes, which EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 67

is what makes Spanish gastronomy so rich and varied. Another stage that marked me in my professional career was when I met Paco García. For many years, he enlightened me and we discovered the great pantry we had in Malaga and Andalusia. Advocating our agri-food sector and giving it visibility through my cooking was a very laborious but rewarding task.” Boho Club is a luxury resort with a very demanding national and international public. How do you manage this culinary challenge? “We manage to overcome this undoubtedly complicated challenge, as creating a menu to cater for the tastes of such a cosmopolitan public like ours is no easy task. We have wonderful customers who come to discover our gastronomy, to enjoy themselves and to be pleasantly surprised.” What’s your view of the current gastronomic offer on the Costa del Sol? “Malaga’s a world-renowned tourist destination, and in the last four or five years, it’s also become a top-class gastronomic reference point. When you travel, apart from planning what you are going to visit, you also plan where to eat. In my case, when I travel, I always like to get to know the typical dishes of the city or country I’m visiting. Then I look for something more gastronomic, so as to learn about their work philosophy, their way of seeing and understanding what they’re doing, and what they want to transmit. I do think there’s a boom of new restaurants and hotels that are saturating the market, but I’m more about updating and renewing my proposals. Malaga is a magnet for 68 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE
investors, but not everything works - it’s a combination of time, effort and perseverance that decides which business works and which doesn’t.” Is it complicated to manage such a large team in the kitchen when you sometimes provide more than 300 services a day? “I always say that the real driving force behind the kitchen is its team, the people. Without them, it would be impossible to carry out the difficult task of serving 300 guests in high season, especially considering the complexity of our cuisine. And of course, the front-of-house staff is also indispensable, and another very important part of the engine. We must be synchronised like a Swiss watch so that everything goes perfectly.” What do you cook at home? “To be honest, I don’t cook much at home, as I spend most of my time at the restaurant, but when I have free time or I’m on holiday, I like to invite family and friends over... I’m very traditional when it comes to cooking. I’m a fan of soups and stews, I love to cook “Babette’s Feast” style snacks, paellas, and depending on who’s coming, I set up a gastronomic restaurant. I pride myself on being a good host, and I love spoiling everyone who comes to my house for a meal.” What challenges do you set for yourself in the future? “If I told you what my challenges are, they wouldn’t come true… I see myself cooking for sure, but in a calmer environment, and without the frenetic pace of life and work that I have now.”

ELM RECIPE
Salmon Tartare • • • • • • • • • •
600g of salmon without skin or bones. 10g of freshly ground pepper. 100ml Extra Virgin Olive Oil 100ml Perrins sauce (Worcestershire) 60ml of lemon juice. 150g gherkins in vinegar (to taste) 150g shallots 100g capers 35g salt 50g Dijon mustard
Extra ingredients: • Carasau bread • Trout roe • Small sprigs of fresh dill. HOW TO MAKE THE TARTARE: Start by freezing the salmon for a minimum of 10 hours at -35ºC, so as to avoid possible contamination of anisakis. This will also allow it to harden, making it easier to cut. The cut to make is a fine brunoise. Cut the gherkins, shallots and capers in the same way as the salmon (brunoise). Put all the ingredients, including the salmon, in a bowl. Mix until homogeneous, and then put it in the fridge until you are ready to serve. PLATING: On a slate plate, make a quenelle of tartare, place the trout roe and dill on top, and cover the sides with two pieces of Carasau bread. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 73

LIMITATIONS ON TOURIST RENTALS
(AND PROHIBITIONS) BY HOMEOWNERS’ ASSOCIATIONS By: SANTIAGO DE LA CRUZ
A
rticle 17.12, in its current wording of the Horizontal Property Law states the following: “ The resolution aimed at limiting or conditioning the exercise of the activity mentioned in section e) of Article 5 of Law 29/1994, dated November 24th, on Urban
Leases, as specified in the tourism sector regulations, regardless of whether it entails modifications to the constitutive title or the bylaws, will require the favourable vote of three-fifths of the total number of owners who, in turn, represent three-fifths of the participation quotas. Additionally, the same majority is required for the resolution to establish extraordinary expense fees or increase the share of common expenses for the dwelling where such activity takes place, as long as these modifications do not exceed a 20% increase. These resolutions will not be applied retroactively”. The activity referred to in Article 5(e) of Law 29/1994 of 24 November 1994 is the temporary assignment of dwellings to be marketed as tourist lettings. Therefore, it is evident from the current wording of Article 17.12 of the Horizontal Property Law that homeowners’ associations have the ability to limit or condition the use of dwellings for tourist purposes. To do so, a majority of three-fifths of the total number of owners representing three-fifths of the participation quotas is required, without the option to increase quotas or the participation of owners who rent out more than 20%. It is important to note that such resolutions do not have retroactive effects. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 75
ELM LEGAL
However, it is worth noting that the Horizontal Property Law specifically uses the terms “limiting and conditioning” when referring to the use of dwellings for tourist purposes. This raises the question of whether homeowners’ associations are permitted to outright “prohibit” such tourist use. To enforce a prohibition on vacation rentals within our homeowners’ association, certain factors need to be considered: Firstly, it is essential that the Bylaws explicitly state a general limitation on the use of flats for tourist rentals. In the event that such a provision is absent, the Owners’ Meeting must pass a resolution regarding the prohibition of tourist rentals. Therefore, if the Community intends to prohibit the rental of vacation flats within the building, it is necessary to convene an Owners’ Meeting, with the explicit inclusion of the resolution to prohibit the use of the property for tourist rentals on the agenda. If the prohibition resolution is approved, a certificate confirming such resolution must be issued to ensure that future flat purchasers in the building are aware of the limitation. However, it would be risky to make an unequivocal assertion regarding the outright prohibition of tourist rentals within homeowners’ associations or their unrestricted permissibility. This is due to the existence of divergent rulings from various Provincial Courts, which have rendered non-uniform judgments on the matter. Certain courts uphold the argument that while the right to private property is constitutionally protected (Article 33 Spanish Constitution), widely interpreted within our legal framework, with limitations solely defined by law or convention, it is still permissible to impose restrictions or prohibitions that primarily serve the collective interests of the community. These limitations or prohibitions, pertaining to specific activities or alterations in property use, must be explicitly stated and, to be legally binding against third parties, must be registered in the Land Registry. On the other hand, there are those who adopt an opposing viewpoint, basing their interpretation on a literal reading of the regulation. Since the regulation does not explicitly mention prohibition, despite the opportunity to
do so, their conclusion is that homeowners’ associations lack the authority to prohibit tourist use, although they retain the power to impose limitations or conditions on such usage. Certain judgments have made specific references to the interpretation of the Horizontal Property Law, suggesting that it is possible to conclude that the community of owners can impose limitations or conditions on the exercise of tourist activities. This would require a favourable vote of three fifths of the total number of owners who, in turn, represent three fifths of the participation quotas. However, to outright prohibit such activities, the unanimous vote of all co-owners would be necessary, in accordance with the provisions of Article 17.6 of the Horizontal Property Law. This article states that “resolutions not explicitly regulated within it, which involve the approval or amendment of rules in the constitutive title of the horizontal property or the Community’s bylaws, require unanimous consent from all owners representing the total number of participation quotas to be considered valid”. Lastly, it should be noted that in cases where the use of a property for tourism purposes can be deemed as a nuisance as outlined in Article 7.2 of the Horizontal Property Law, there is always the option to initiate legal action for cessation. Depending on the specific circumstances, if the tourist activity is considered bothersome, affected parties can seek a court order to halt such activities. This pertains not to the classification of the property as a tourist flat, but rather to whether the conducted activity is deemed annoying or uncomfortable for other owners. The regulation of community life aims to ensure that the right of each co-owner to use and enjoy their property, as an expression of ownership, does not infringe upon the rights of others or harm the collective well-being. In conclusion, it is evident that with more effective legislative drafting, the necessity for judicial interpretation of rules could be reduced. By carefully crafting regulations with precise language and clarity, we can avoid the situation where we must rely on court decisions to interpret their meaning.

Luxury Classic Yacht BY GE E LE N MA RI NE
“M
ooi” is one out of five yachts that were built in 1966 by the renowned American boat builder Chris Craft. It was also the only one exported to Europe where she spent most of her life cruising along the French Riviera around Marseille, Antibes, St Tropez, Cannes, Nice and Monaco. At the end of the 90’s the yacht was bought by a dutchman who started a refit project at a small shipyard located on a Dutch canal. Unfortunately, due to financial struggles the restoration project was put on hold and Mooi ended up abandoned in a small marina in The Netherlands. In 2021 the Geelen brothers bought it and transported it by land and sea to Galicia in Spain for a total restoration project that has lasted almost 2 years.

n the outside, the design is a re-interpretation of the decorations found on Venetian palaces and confirms the romantic look of the entire Princess family.
Venetian Princess is produced in all of the colors of gold and with an array of different decorations with stones that have become a trademark of Roberto Coin. After the first edition with black and white diamonds, able to create a mysterious allure, we can find pure white petals made in mother-of-pearl, black, shiny petals made of black jade, green petals made of malachite, and others decorated with the blue of lapis lazuli. The latest addition is the titanium version, which represents a completely novel concept in Roberto Coin’s creative world. Titanium petals are created using high-precision machines, and then oxidized with a process to achieve the purest, most brilliant color. With such a vast range to choose from, Venetian Princess gives every woman the chance to find the look that best suits her, from the most fascinating and sensual to the most joyful and vivacious. The twisted thread detail that decorates all the jewels is produced in 3D, to guarantee perfection and maximum solidity, whilst the diamonds are set by hand using a microscope. The bracelet has a double click safety clasp, to insure maximum security and solidity. These jewels can be considered an expression of the perfect harmony between technology and artistry – masterpieces in which artificial intelligence and experienced hands work together to create beauty, where the past meets the future under the creative eye of Roberto Coin.

Titanium flowers We are accustomed to surprise twists from the Venetian Princess collection. From its original design, where a mix of black and white diamonds come together to create a play of light and shadow as mysterious as the Venetian legends that shroud the collection itself, to the very diverse versions that have followed in the years since. Mother-of-pearl in all of its purity, the verve of malachite and the deep oceanic blue of lapis lazuli. Now, Roberto Coin is surprising us once more with completely unique petals, covered in titanium. The color of titanium alters when the temperature is exposed to changes, making it a difficult material to work with. After years of effort, the Roberto Coin team has found the way to work titanium with high-precision machines, and then to oxidize it using a process that stabilizes the four ultra-bright colors found in the pieces - an exceptional feat, since they are entirely new in the world of fine jewelry. Titanium is considered one of the most durable materials in the world, and this manufacturing process accentuates the strength of its colorful beauty as well. A jeweled flower that stands up to the passage of time, always looking “freshly bloomed”.

our background includes a diverse range of experiences, from growing up in Latvia to living in the United States and eventually settling in Spain. How have these different cultural influences shaped your creative vision and approach to interior design and luxury furniture? The foundation of my creativity can be traced back to my upbringing, particularly influenced by my mother, a remarkably creative individual, as well as my immersion in music during my eight years of musical training. Playing the accordion and singing in the chorus gave me freedom to express myself. Furthermore, my creative roots can be attributed to my maternal grandparents, both teachers and artistic souls. I’m convinced these experiences during my early years upbringing laid the groundwork for my creative journey. 126 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE
ELM INTERVIEW
Fast forward to my completion of fashion school in Latvia, where I wholeheartedly pursued my passion for designing clothes. During that time, the historical context of the Soviet Union meant limited availability of goods, prompting me to tap into my resourcefulness and create something out of nothing. The scarcity of resources served as a source of inspiration, forcing me to approach design from a perspective of innovation. Later in life, when I travelled to the United States, I was eager to dive into the fashion industry. Despite the initial language barrier, I was offered a design position, relying on my visual talent rather than verbal communication. I created a sportswear company, designing apparel, as well as leading a production team and designing patterns for a boutique. Can you share some insights into the creative journey that led you from a career in fashion design to pursuing a second degree as an Interior Architect? How did this shift in focus allow you to reconnect with your creative roots? My creative journey took a significant turn when I found myself working as a CEO in a business enterprise. This experience provided invaluable insights into the inner functions of business development, including aspects such as business planning, financial management, negotiations, and customer service skills. It planted in me a deep appreciation for the diversity of the world, languages, nationalities, and heritages. While leading the enterprise, I initiated my first distance studies as an interior designer in the United States. Gradually, I left my CEO title and embarked on a journey of reinvention, immersing myself in various courses and expanding my knowledge base towards the world of interior design.
I introduced the Eichholtz brand to our showroom, called IDHOUSE back then, and soon after, I realised I wanted it to become An Eichholtz only showroom. The brand has an extensive collection of over 4,000 items, offering limitless possibilities for interior design styles from a single collection. With Eichholtz designs, one can furnish an entire home, seamlessly integrating their furniture and decor. Speed of delivery and after service it’s all exceptional. I don’t know by now any other luxury furniture brand in Europe that does it on such a high level. As the CEO of EM you’ve emphasised the importance of not only creating beautiful interior designs but also understanding the technical installations and design details that are often overlooked. How do you ensure that both aesthetics and functionality are seamlessly integrated in your designs? The answer is quite simple. You need to have extensive knowledge to set out design plans, engineering and installation plans that harmonise effortlessly with the final design. This fusion of creativity and technical skills is the key to outstanding and functional interior design. When one possesses the understanding of what lies behind the walls or ceilings and how it impacts the ultimate design, they truly become an interior architect. Allow me to illustrate this with an example: without a technical understanding, entering a house might give the impression of a spacious 3-metre high ceiling. However, it is crucial to remember that during installation, the ceiling will be lowered by maybe 40 centimetres, resulting in a final height of 2,60 metres. I’m convinced, familiarity with the technical aspects of building plans is crucial to achieving a successful design. While yes, it is important to see the project designed on paper but the ability to execute it in reality is what truly matters.
In the end I discovered a Marbella Design Academy in Spain, and given my love for the Spanish language, it felt like a natural choice. From that point forward, I felt a connection between what I’m doing and my surroundings. Spain warmly welcomed me, equipped with the ability to draft plans and knowledge to give technical expertises, I found myself immersed in the realm of interior design.
EM recently launched a new website, an extensive Online store directly connected to Eichholtz warehouse. What do you want your potential customers to know about it? Majority of our clients are based outside of Marbella. By visiting our showroom prior to online browsing, customers can confidently place their orders online, while being at the comfort of their homes. Our efficient order processing ensures that your purchase will arrive at your doorstep within a maximum of 15 days. Isn’t this fantastic?
The decision to become the first Monobrand representative of Eichholtz in Spain is significant. What drew you to this particular brand, and what unique qualities and design elements do you believe Eichholtz brings to the luxury furniture market? Interesting question. Why did I want to create a pioneering representative of Eichholtz in Spain? Two words: Guts Feeling! Oftentimes, we embark on a path not driven by financial gain or business opportunities, but rather a belief that we can’t quite articulate. In my case, that feeling emanated from Eichholtz, to be surrounded by the strength and beauty of the brand. I cannot rationalise it, but it spoke to me twelve years ago, and I have followed that intuition ever since.
Looking towards the future, what are your aspirations for EM? Are there any new projects on the horizon that you are particularly excited about? What would you like to share with our readers? Eichholtz as a brand is extremely active. And so I am. There are always new ideas, but the genuine ones for now you have to keep to yourself until they flourish. With biannual launches of new collections, Eichholtz continually adapts to evolving trends, ensuring their clientele never experiences a sense of repetition. It is impossible to get bored with it. The future shines brightly for Eichholtz in Marbella. We are already looking forward to the new collection which is coming out very soon! EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 127
ELM ART
Alejandro Hermann is a master of combining minimalism with the warmth of the colours of nature, and values the beauty of imperfection; simplicity converted into authenticity. When he observes his finished work, with uneven surfaces which at first may appear to be flaws, he understands that life is not perfect either, and this is the message he seeks to transmit to the viewer. The artist Alejandro Hermann defines himself as a citizen of the world and a lover of art and life. He goes to his workplace every day, his studio situated in Marbella, where he discovers himself and his real inner peace. Dressed in his painter’s jacket, once white, but now stained with paints and pigments; surrounded by books, paintbrushes, drawing inks, pencils, charcoal and canvases; with photos and memories of his childhood home on the walls, and music - especially French - always in the background. It is here that the artist immerses himself in his true essence, in his soul, in the meaning of life. After a long artistic career, he now feels liberated from the canons of art; a feeling of freedom that is clearly reflected on the canvas, in harmony with his overwhelming desire to create. For this reason, Alejandro Hermann does not try to hide imperfections, but makes them part of his creations. As he explains in his own words: “I sat down and looked, staring at the lack of symmetry in what I’d created. I observed it, and it spoke to me… I listened to its silence and I was filled with peace. I felt its harmony and I understood it was finished.” This marked a new stage in his art. By adding layers of materials, fabrics, oils and pigments, the artist seeks to encourage the viewer to study the depth of the textures and colours, so often overlooked, allowing the uneven canvases to speak for themselves. He pays tribute to the ravages of time, turning them upside down, making them assets, transforming them into works of art. 128 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE

In addition to using noble and natural materials, the artist looks for inspiration in recycled elements, like aged wood or rusty iron, rags and antique Asian pieces, such as pipes or brushes found in local marketplaces, even industrial waste. He adds them to his paintings with a firm belief in their expressive qualities, to create pieces of art that are full of life. Let’s get to know the artist better through his own words: Alejandro, when did you first feel inspired to paint? It’s something that’s always been within me. So when did you realise that you were an artist? When I was capable of expressing everything I felt. Seeing you at work, you give the impression of being very patient. Is this true? When I’m working, yes. And in life in general? “I try to be…”, he laughs. What does Alejandro Hermann think about while painting? The truth is, I don’t think about anything. It’s actually as I paint, as the work starts to take shape, whether abstract, expressionist or figurative, that I begin to feel how it’s going. However, sometimes random thoughts do come to mind - it’s a long process. What do you feel when you paint? When I paint, I feel happiness, pleasure… I feel at one with the work, I feel peace. It’s what I love doing. During the creation process, is there a moment when it becomes mechanical? No, never. It would no longer be authentic. Do you know where all your artworks are now? Not all of them, but most of them. Are there paintings that leave you exhausted? I always end up exhausted, but invigorated and happy at the same time. I need a while to recover from it. It’s not only mental, but also physical. My fingers and legs start to cramp, and then I realise that I’m worn out. Is talent inherited? Perhaps, but it’s also innate. Does anything worry you? Yes. Not managing to express in my paintings everything I feel. Thank you! My pleasure!

here are you from originally? I’m from Cantabria. I was born and raised in Santander, where I also went to university and started out in the professional world. How did you come to live in Marbella? Just like many foreign residents, the first time I came here was on holiday. I’d never considered settling here, but to be honest, the climate, the city and its atmosphere made a real impact on me, as I was used to a harsher and greyer climate. The light of the Costa del Sol won me over, as did the woman who would later become my wife. How long have you been practising law? I began my professional career in Santander in 1993 under the guidance of an excellent lawyer and friend, Miguel Gómez Hervia, and another beloved and great teacher, Mateo José Rodriguez Gómez. They were the ones who raised me, legally speaking. What led you to choose this career? The truth is, at first I wasn’t sure whether to study law or journalism, because I’ve always been keen on literature, writing, and above all, contact with the real, human side of world events. But I opted for law, and Criminal Law was what appealed to me most and influenced me to choose my professional career, not only from the perspective of knowledge of the human condition in the most difficult or tragic moments, but also the struggle for civil rights and liberties in an ongoing war between the power of the State and the individual and sacred rights of all citizens in the face of that power.
What is your speciality? As I mentioned previously, Criminal Law. What do you like most about your profession? contend with the relentless struggle between State power and citizens’ rights on a daily basis. It’s not an easy path, as you’re always at a disadvantage and you face many prejudices, but the challenge is stimulating and rewarding both on a personal and professional level. And what do you like the least? Perhaps the frustration of sometimes finding yourself in a David and Goliath struggle, especially with the administrative red tape; the disheartenment of facing an antiquated system with insufficient means, despite having excellent professionals within the judiciary, the public prosecutor’s office, the security forces and the legal profession. But this frustration leads to fatigue and a loss of motivation and faith among many professionals. Have you got interesting anecdotes related to your profession? I’ve got so many, I wouldn’t know which one to choose. In any case, professional secrecy and discretion prevent me from sharing them. Do you ever take work home with you? The question is when do I not take work home with me! Where are the majority of your clients from? They’re mainly English-speaking, but there are trends. I’ve had clients from all over the world and I’ve travelled whenever I’ve had to and wherever a client’s needed me.

osta del Sol Christie’s International Real Estate is the exclusive affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate for the luxury real estate market in and around Marbella. What are the main benefits of this affiliation? There are two major benefits to this exclusive affiliation with Christie’s International Real Estate. The first is the globalisation of the Christie’s brand. We are talking about a company with 900 offices in 50 countries around the world operating in unison. This provides not only a huge real estate support network, but access to prime clients on an international level. These are wealthy individuals willing to buy luxury properties all over the world. Of course, for owners, this means that every villa, every apartment has global publicity as well. The second point is the brand guarantee. Christie’s has been in business for 250 years. It is best known for appraising and auctioning art, or for its private sales, but it has a lot of real estate experience as well. Of course, it applies the same unquestionable seal of quality it is known for to its properties. Each property is also a delicate and valuable piece. How would you describe Christie’s philosophy? If you go to Christie’s website, you will find a special section dedicated to their beliefs. The core values are integrity, good business judgement, exceptional client service, passionate expertise, respect, teamwork, and innovation. At Costa del Sol Christie’s International Real Estate, we share the same heart and brain of the business. What do you feel sets your agency apart from others in this area? Without disparaging the competition, we have the largest international network of agencies on the Costa del Sol. The rest are local, national or with a certain international projection... but they don’t reach the level of our agency. As I explained earlier, Christie’s is in every corner of the world, and that gives us an unrivalled database of wealthy clients and luxury properties. What are the most challenging, and satisfying parts of your work? Attracting new, high-quality, and if possible, exclusive properties is a challenge. We often say no to lovely clients because their properties are not up to Christie’s standards, in terms of size, location, quality. And there is a lot of competition on the Costa del Sol in this respect, so the best properties are scarce and have many “suitors”. When we find hidden gems on the Costa del Sol, it is well worth the effort.
The most satisfying thing, without a doubt, is to see how many of our clients return, whether looking for a new property or re-selling. Loyalty and word of mouth are two of our strong points. There is also a very special moment when you find the ideal home for a client. That’s when you know you’ve done your job very well. We don’t just sell homes, we sell satisfaction, we sell happiness... we sell life potential. Many agents on the coast experienced their most successful year ever in 2022. How is 2023 going for Christie’s? The balance of 2022 was fabulous, to be honest, and for this reason we decided to grow. That is why 2023 is very exciting for Costa del Sol Christie’s International Real Estate. We moved into a new office in June, in the heart of the Golden Mile. It is spacious, elegant, technological and with greater visibility and accessibility for our clients. We have also grown in Human Resources, always focusing on people who are multilingual experts in luxury real estate. But, above all, we have consolidated the team. Each member of the team is focused on the best possible customer service. Are you seeing a rise in American buyers? Any other noteworthy emerging markets? We too have noticed this “American wave”, as you point out, especially on our website. Visits and requests for information from Americans have risen significantly. At the same time, our contacts with our colleagues on the other side of the Atlantic have become stronger. Two of our agents were there last year, one visiting the New York headquarters and the other touring the East Coast. Similarly, delegations from Christie’s California and Miami have come to visit us in Marbella, showing great interest in strengthening ties. The other big market that works for us is Northern Europe. German and English clients are a classic for the Costa del Sol, but we get a lot of clients from Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Czech Republic, or Poland, as well as Scandinavians. Which area of Marbella is your favourite? This is a very difficult question to answer. Marbella in general is a great place to live and has many charming areas. Real estate-wise, I do think that the Golden Mile is still a great investment, and within that, I particularly like Sierra Blanca. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 139

JORGE MANZUR TH E M AN AGER
J
orge Manzur (Mexico City, 1966) is the perfect hotel manager for many reasons; qualifications, international experience, public relations, a strong work ethic, as well as a multicultural heritage that gives him a very special charisma.
one of the best hotels on the Costa del Sol, what did you find? I found a great hotel with an occupancy and services that weren’t fulfilling its potential, but with a team that’s keen to put their energy and enthusiasm into making it a success. For me, real luxury is the personal touch we add at this hotel.
With Spanish ancestry on his mother’s side and Lebanese on his father’s, he spent his childhood and school years in Mexico City. He soon discovered his passion for the hospitality industry, and developed it further in the frequent family gatherings organised by his mother and grandmothers. This was what encouraged him to study at accredited universities and take different training courses, until 1994, when he got his first job at the Westin Brisas Ixtapa.
You believe that the gastronomic sector is fundamental in a luxury hotel. How have you structured it at Anantara Villa Padierna? When I arrived at the hotel, there was a restaurant and a half, to be honest. Now we have eight different dining options. We aim to provide complementary services that make the guest experience at the hotel so enjoyable that our clients will want to stay longer and return, in addition to increasing the average expenditure. Everything is focused on improving the guest experience.
He has spent most of his working life in Marbella, managing prestigious hotels such as Meliá Marbella Banús, Puente Romano, and currently, Anantara Villa Padierna. Exclusive Live Magazine is interested to learn more about Jorge Manzur, a key figure in the evolution of Marbella’s hotel industry. How do you define yourself ? As a family man, a team player who looks after his family and personal relationships. Which ancestry would you say is dominant in your personality? All of them, but if I had to choose one, it would undoubtedly be Mexican. Why Marbella? My wife had always spent her summer holidays in Marbella. Then in 1997, I received a job offer from Puente Romano, a one-year contract, and the rest is history… You’ve worked in many of Marbella’s luxury hotels. Has this given you a comprehensive view of what our province needs? I’ve worked in Marbella’s most emblematic luxury hotels and, without a doubt, the city of Marbella holds a podium position among Spain’s most exclusive destinations. Which period of your life do you remember most fondly? All of them. From each one, I’ve gained the knowledge and the experience that have made me grow as a professional and as a person. When you finally came to work in Anantara Villa Padierna,
Quality service is a real luxury, and at your hotel it’s evident from the moment you walk in. Is it complicated to coordinate such a large team? Not for me. I’m a people person, dedicated to creating solid teams where everyone feels important because they are important. We form a team and everyone contributes so that the growth is linear in all departments. And, for me, it’s important to know by name each of the 220 team members who make up the Anantara Villa Padierna family. Anantara Villa Padierna has an impressive Beach Club with new features this year. “This year we’ve been getting some minor renovations done, and we’ve reached an agreement with the Carbón Negro Group for events. But we continue running the club ourselves and the kitchen’s still our responsibility, guaranteeing the high-end cuisine and luxury that our clients expect from us.” You’re married and have two children. What’s Jorge Manzur like as a father? I have an excellent relationship with my children, and I’ve always tried to set a good example. They’ve seen me work in hotels, and my total commitment to my teams, who think very highly of me. They’ve seen how I’ve always worked in an honest and transparent way. I think the best thing a father can give his children is that example. You’re passionate about running. What’s your next challenge? “I’m preparing for the Cascais 70.3 in October, which is a half Ironman. Running, apart from keeping me physically fit, helps me clear my head and release stress.” EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 147

oven fabric is a singular product in today’s market, not only because of its beauty, but also due to its endurance: flat-woven towels last almost three times longer than factory-made towels, and in the case of thicker looped towels, between five and six times longer. When the strength and integrity of a woven fabric is combined with the highest quality natural fibres and the human touch and soul infused in a handmade piece, the result is a first-rate product that is a rare find nowadays.

Beyond the environmental benefits of using organic cotton - for the earth, the water table, and the cotton pickers - organically processed cotton is more absorbent and releases moisture more effectively. It also has its own natural antibacterial properties, which have not been damaged by chemical processes and, therefore, it will not smell musty or harden over time, and it will be easier to clean. Ottoman weavers invented the looping technique in the late 17th century, and the towels they produced became world-renowned, not just for this innovative method, but also because the towels lasted for an incredibly long time. Even with the use of modern washing machines and dryers, towels made of GOTS-certified organic cotton will last a minimum of 20 years; in the case of linen, a minimum of 30 years; and silk, no less than 40 years, making each towel a highly sustainable product.

CARLOS DIEZ DE LA LASTRA CEO L ES ROCH ES
H
ow would you describe your experience working at Les Roches? For those of us who have a vocation for education and know the importance of training for the future of students, it is a real privilege to manage one of the four most relevant universities in the world in its field. Moreover, if it is also an institution with an important link to Marbella and this makes the pleasure and pride of belonging even greater.
What do you think sets Les Roches apart? We have a clear objective: to train leaders in the hotel and luxury tourism sector. Our hallmark is our comprehensive education, which combines theory with real-world experience. Beyond providing students with the necessary knowledge to lead the industry—we educate them in values, soft-skills, entrepreneurship, leadership, innovation, and business skills that enrich them not only academically, but also personally. We value discipline, effort and commitment in the professionals we train.
For almost ten years, I have worked with an exceptional team at the Marbella campus that has enabled us to forge a leading role worldwide in attracting new talent to higher education in the field of tourism. In Spain, despite standing out as one of the leaders in the sector, we did not have the same level of reputation in higher education. Being able to now say that the campus in Marbella has become attractive for upcoming leaders of the hotel and luxury sector is something we are proud of.
Talent from all continents and cultures coexist on our campuses and form close personal and professional bonds even after graduating. Part of the value of Les Roches is our group of more than 16,000 alumni who work and lead projects of all kinds in over 140 countries. All of this has made Les Roches a reference institution within the sector. This gives us a voice within governments, companies and institutions with whom we collaborate, such as the World Tourism Organization, which we have been linked to since 2017.
An example of our current recognition is undoubtedly the success of our annual conference on Space and Underwater Tourism Universal Summit (SUTUS) which has become the most important international event of reference in this emerging tourism sector. Every year, some of the biggest space agencies, including NASA, THAT, JACSA, as well as leading organizations and private companies such as Space Florida, Prometheus and Cousteau, meet in Marbella to present their innovative projects in space and underwater tourism. After this stage at the helm of Les Roches in Marbella, I am proud to now be able to lead the Les Roches project at a worldwide level, which includes our campus in Switzerland and projects in other countries. My relationships keep me grounded in Marbella, and I believe that this link between Les Roches and the Costa del Sol is not only valuable for the university but is also extremely important and unique to strengthening the economy and tourism of the area—one of the main destinations for luxury tourism. Why did you choose the hotel industry? I have dedicated my professional life to the management of private higher education institutions in Spain, but until arriving at Les Roches, I had always managed universities with diverse disciplines. However, tourism was already part of my life after having worked at the European University of Madrid, Lisbon and the European University of the Canary Islands within Laureate International Universities where there were numerous programs related to tourism.
What relationship does Les Roches have with the business world? At Les Roches we train professionals with a vocation in the hospitality sector so that they can manage companies and lead high-value teams in the sector. Students’ skills are acquired not only during their stay and training on campus, but also during their professional internship periods in recognized companies. Learning by doing is very present both in undergraduate programs and in postgraduate and master’s degrees for professionals. As an example, last May, 86 companies attended our Marbella campus. These included top names like Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental and the Marriott Group. During this process of learning by doing, both on campus and in professional internships, our students are immersed in the everyday activities of companies where they establish contacts with some of the most important premium companies in the world. We are also committed to updating training dynamics and education models on our campuses that combine service excellence and innovation Since 2020 Les Roches students have available the “Spark Innovation Sphere”, an innovation ecosystem where some of the most disruptive projects related to innovation and technology share space with hospitality companies. Spark also allows our students to take advantage of both the renown educational model of Switzerland, one of the countries with the highest per capita impact on innovation, and the professional model of Spain, one of the countries with the highest per capita impact on tourism. That is something unique also in Les Roches. EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 155

he Catalan artist, whose work has been shown in galleries and museums all over the world, is putting the finishing touches to an exhibition at the European Parliament in Brussels to mark the occasion of the Spanish Presidency of the EU. The truth is that Rita Martorell has always stood out for her unassuming manner and her outstanding talent for painting. She says about her work:“The fact is, I don’t identify myself solely as a portraitist. I’d say that the portrait genre has been a personal exercise for me, an innate way of representing the human being from my point of view, in order to interpret their attitude or their 156 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE

I like to bring out the very depths of a look, or the most subtle facial expression.” Martorell has created an impressive gallery of contemporary portraits of Spanish society, preferentially of prominent figures from the world of politics and finance, including some who have played an important role in the European integration process: the Spanish Foreign Ministers, Fernando Morán, Abel Matutes and Eduardo Punset, as well as the former judge, Baltasar Garzón; the former Prime Minister of Romania, Petre Roman; and the French writer Michel Houellebecq, among others.

An unusual portrait, which cuts its own paths. The resemblance is still paramount, but the rest is pictorial personality, often to make it more intriguing. Perhaps it is not her intention, but her work is very much a psychological study. During our meeting with Rita, already known as “the painter of 21st-century politicians”, she reveals the secrets of the first portrait she painted in 1994 of a public figure, Eduardo
“I painted the football player, Samuel Eto’o, in Milan, and I would say that he’s a very genuine person. I’ve always liked his spontaneity, on and off the field.” Punset. At the time, she never imagined that she would end up becoming the portraitist of such a large number of politicians, including the first democratic president of Galicia, Gerardo Fernández Albor.
In recognition of Martorell’s work during the German reunification process after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and at the express wish of the President of the Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, her portrait of Fernández Albor remains in the German Parliament, occupying a prominent place alongside works by Gerhard Richter, George Baselitz and Christian Boltanski. REAL-LIFE IDOLS Rita Martorell has the ability to penetrate the soul and capture it on canvas, to expose it for all to see. She has had the satisfaction of portraying one of her ‘idols’, the footballer, Samuel Eto’o, in this soul-baring process. She does not declare herself to be a football fan, but she is an admirer of the altruistic side of the Cameroonian football player. The sportsman’s foundation later auctioned the painting to raise funds and contribute to a paediatric ward in a hospital in Cameroon. “I painted the football player, Samuel Eto’o, in Milan, and I would say that he’s a very genuine person. I’ve always liked his spontaneity, on and off the field.” NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CREATIONS Rita Martorell has painted people from many different walks of life, although Marbella is one of the places she has focused on more closely, portraying Gunilla von Bismark, María de Salamanca, María Esther Vidiella, Sandra de Hohenlohe, Count Rudi von Schönburg, the lawyer Ricardo Sánchez Bocanegra, EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE- 159

esigning the best bedroom involves careful consideration of both aesthetics and functionality.
Here are some steps to help you design a beautiful and functional bedroom:
1. DETERMINE THE THEME OR STYLE: Decide on the overall theme or style you want for your bedroom. This could be minimalist, industrial, Scandinavian, or any other design style that matches your taste. 2. CONSIDER THE LAYOUT: Assess the size and shape of your bedroom to determine the best layout. Ensure there is proper flow and space for essential furniture pieces like the bed, nightstands, and wardrobe. 162 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE
ELM INTERIORS 3. CHOOSE A COLOR SCHEME: Select a color scheme that promotes relaxation and reflects your personal style. Neutral and calming colors like white, beige, and pastel shades are popular choices for bedrooms. Add pops of color through accessories and artwork. 4. FOCUS ON THE BED: The bed is the centerpiece of your bedroom. Invest in a comfortable and visually appealing bed with a high-quality mattress. Consider the style of the bed frame, headboard and bedding to match your chosen theme. 5. INCORPORATE AMPLE STORAGE: A clutter-free bedroom enhances relaxation. Include sufficient storage solutions like wardrobes, dressers, and bedside tables to keep your belongings organized and out of sight. 6. PRIORITIZE NATURAL LIGHTING: Let in as much natural light as possible. Choose light and airy curtains or blinds that allow for privacy while also letting in sunlight during the day. Consider installing additional lighting sources like bedside lamps or wall sconces for functional and ambient lighting. 7. CREATE A COZY SEATING AREA: If you have ample space, consider adding a small seating area with a comfortable chair or loveseat. It can serve as a reading nook or a spot to relax and unwind. 8. PERSONALIZE WITH ACCESSORIES: Infuse your personality into the bedroom by choosing accessories that reflect your taste. Add artwork, decorative pillows, rugs, and plants to add texture and visual appeal. 9. CONSIDER SOUNDPROOFING: If noise is a concern, consider incorporating soundproofing elements like double-glazed windows, heavy curtains, or installing acoustic panels on the walls to create a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. 10. PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS: Lastly, pay attention to the finer details. Ensure proper ventilation, invest in quality bedding and linens, and choose comfortable window treatments that provide privacy and complete the overall look of the bedroom. Remember, the best bedroom design is one that reflects your personal style, prioritizes comfort, and promotes relaxation. If you need extra help, contact a specialist. Spain’s best chefs participated in a gastronomic forum where cooking workshops were held for more than 150 children from Fundación Pequeño Deseo and the Benahavís schools Daidín and Atalaya, in which they cooked together, making simple recipes with healthy ingredients. In the evening, a wonderful gala was held, starting with a cocktail on the Linares terrace. The gala dinner, offering an exceptional, unique menu, prepared by the Michelin Stars of Malaga, was presented by the journalist Luján Argüelles, and all the participating chefs shared tables with the more than 300 guests. In this 5th edition, ChefsForChildren collaborated with the Pequeño Deseo Foundation, which has been working for two decades to grant the wishes of children with serious or chronic illnesses, to give them emotional support and make their treatments more bearable. It has been scientifically proven that for a child, having a wish granted causes positive emotions which have a significant effect on their wellbeing. The Foundation has already made more than 6,500 children’s wishes come true, and in this new edition, ChefsForChildren has contributed with a donation of €20,000, making it possible to grant around 30 more wishes. Daniel Ek The Swedish billionaire who revolutionised music with Spotify T E X T: E VA D E L A M O
Daniel Ek is the co-founder of Spotify, the world’s leading music platform. Born in 1983, he grew up in the suburb of Ragsved, near Stockholm. He was brought up by a single mother who worked in a childcare centre; his grandmother was an opera singer, and his grandfather, a jazz pianist. - 168 -

At the tender age of four, Daniel already had two obvious passions: music and technology. By the time he was 14, he had already taught himself HTML programming, and was creating websites at a time when there was extremely high demand and very little supply. When he started out, Ek would charge $100 for custom websites, but it was not long before he was charging $5,000, due to the great acceptance they had in the market. His schoolmates helped him with his business, and he paid them in kind, with consoles, video games, iPods and mobile phones. At the age of 16, he wanted to join Google, a company that was just starting to take off at that time. However, he was turned down because he did not have a university degree. Although Ek already had a company with a turnover of $50,000 a month, he took the refusal as a setback. So he decided to compete with Google by creating his own search engine, but on realising that the task was more difficult than expected, he released all his work as open source, looking for interested parties to complete it. The result was the Yahoo finance system. A PERSONAL ROUGH PATCH After graduating from high school, Daniel enrolled in an engineering degree at the Swedish Institute of Technology. However, he dropped out just two months later, disenchanted with it, and convinced that his real interests lay in the business world. Shortly after turning 20, he was already a millionaire; a double-edged sword that drove him into depression.

“I didn’t know who I was, or who I wanted to be. I fell into a deep depression because I thought everything would be much better with money, but it wasn’t,” Ek said in an interview years later. It was then that he made the most radical decision of his life. He sold his Ferrari, left his house, and went to live in the middle of the forest to spend time playing the guitar, harmonica, bass and drums.
Spotify, the world’s leading music industry company. It was born out of his partnership with Martin Lorentzon, and it has been a music revolution to this day, with more than 320 million users and millions of free songs available. Those who know Daniel Ek say that he is a quiet man who is not easily flustered. In 2016, he married his lifelong girlfriend, Sofia Levander, a writer and journalist. The ceremony took place on Lake Como (Italy), with Bruno Mars, Mark Zuckerberg and Chris Rock as guests. It was the beginning of a life together which has been consolidated with the birth of their daughters, Elissa and Colinne.
This was when he came up with the idea of combining music and technology, at a time when music piracy was booming. “I was concerned that the music industry had gone down the drain, despite the fact that people were listening to more songs than ever, and from a wider variety of artists,” Ek said afterwards. Thus the idea was conceived to create a music platform that would offer music for free, after reaching agreements with the record labels.
Daniel Ek’s life has been fictionalised in the Netflix miniseries “The Playlist”. And, oblivious to criticism that he is more interested in his business than the music industry, the millionaire continues to enjoy his days with family and friends, guitar in hand, while his bank account keeps growing each time someone accesses his app to listen to their favourite song.

AN EXPERIMENTAL HABIT: THE PLAYROOM C R I T I C A L T E X T: PAT R I C I A B U E N O
We know from history that Pablo Picasso played at artistically paraphrasing the maestros in his own particular language, and from his sketchbooks, that he invoked them to find his way when lacking inspiration. Hence the annotation in one of them, from 1898, in which he wrote “Greco, Velázquez, inspire me” in a burst of mystical petulance, very much in keeping with the complex personality that surpassed him. But the exercise that conveys the raison d’être of this solo
show is much fresher, sweeter, more ingenuous - despite the fact that, conceptually, it leads us to confirm that genius, at whatever age, takes the right path by revisiting milestones in the history of art. It is precisely along these lines that the young artist, Rafael B., is beginning to move professionally. At just 10 years of age, he presents a series of medium and large format canvases, on which he recreates in his own particular language fragments of emblematic works by the ingenious

Malaga artist, such as Guernica or his version of Las Meninas. This is a very complex exercise, which requires dedication, commitment, courage, and a voice of his own, which is perhaps the greatest virtue of this exhibition. Each one of this young artist’s pieces brings elements of risk, evolution and reflection. Not to mention a skilful hand and a perceptive aesthetic vision, capable of transforming the mythical image of these iconographies through the eyes of a child, and overcoming, through purity, the preconceived notions associated with the emblematic works, their contexts, meanings and symbologies. In descriptive terms, his work process can be seen as didactic, enlightened and transitional. Artistically, it is committedly playful, transcendental and innovative, in tune with the current international painting tendencies, in which the work is composed and created under the artist’s own criteria, based on a reality that already exists, or that is created from his personal perception; in this case, executing, perhaps unconsciously, an elevated metalanguage that is of great interest. However, and in spite of all this, it is his tender age - along with the count- less opportunities that life undoubtedly has in store for this budding artist - that generates the greatest expectation. If Picasso had the opportunity to study the work of Velázquez and El Greco at the age of seventeen, and continue to use them as references in his paintings and drawings through- out his career, for a tenyear-old to embrace and version his works with such great mastery can only be considered the marvellous prelude to a bright and extremely promising future. @rafa_art_marbella 176 - EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE

of the most popular actresses in Hollywood. Her beauty and talent made her shine on the big screen alongside actors such as Robert Redford and John Wayne. THREE MARRIAGES, TWO HUSBANDS In 1957, she married actor Robert Wagner, but they were divorced six years later. In 1969, she married producer Richard Gregson, although this marriage only lasted two years. Shortly afterwards, the actress surprised her fans by remarrying her first husband. After completing the shoot of her last film “Brainstorm”, Wood decided to go out and celebrate on her yacht. That night, the second part of the old woman’s prophecy to Natalie’s mother was fulfilled. Apart from telling her that her daughter would be a big star, she had also given her a very clear warning: “the child must beware of dark water”. For this reason, Natalie’s mother had never taught her to swim, always avoiding the sea, in the fear that the premonition would come true.
One day, mother and daughter came across a large film set while walking along the street. Maria instructed her daughter to sit on the director’s lap and sing a song for him. Her extraordinary voice and natural grace earned her her first starring role in the film “Miracle on 34th Street”. A LIFE DEVOTED TO CINEMA This marked the beginning of a career that kept her involved in cinema throughout her childhood and adolescence. Unlike other actresses, she managed to make the transition to adult roles without much difficulty, and it was the film “Rebel Without a Cause” alongside James Dean that turned out to be her breakthrough to international stardom. By the age of 25, Natalie Wood had already received three Oscar nominations, for “Rebel Without a Cause”, “Splendor in the Grass” and “Love with the Proper Stranger”. In May of this year, Es Arte Gallery inaugurated the exhibition “Picasso Through My Eyes” by the 10-year-old artist, Rafa B., as a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Picasso’s death. A bet on this emerging artist that surprised the viewers, with 99% of the paintings sold to collectors, friends and gallery owners, who saw in the child’s artwork an investment for the future. The vernissage was attended not only by many familiar faces from Marbella, but also by a number of celebrities. The stunning mountain views of La Concha from the terrace of Centro Plaza, catering by Dani, and the presence of Es Arte Gallery collectors, as well as friends and clients of Exclusive Life Magazine, made the opening quite a unique event. Es Arte Gallery will be closed in August. For further information, please email us at: marife@esartegallery.com
