Our expertise. YOUR ADVENTURE.
Welcome to our collection of wildlife encounters for 2023/2024. I’m excited to share our 2023 line-up of incredible adventures with you. It comes as no surprise that demand for travel is the highest it’s been in years, prompted by those feelings and long-lasting memories travel brings, whether that’s spotting whales breach off the coast, hearing howler monkeys screech from tree canopies or watching herds of elephants congregate around watering holes.
Do you ever find that your next adventure is calling out to you? I do. Earlier this year I was lucky enough to visit the Treasury at Petra on our Petra & Wadi Rum adventure. I don’t know who was more excited, me or my kids. Talking with our guide Muayad one evening in our desert camp, he reminded me that our guides bring so much more than expertise. They tell the stories and really make our award-winning itineraries come to life. So why not get inspired by browsing through our collection and see which trips spark your interest? There’s no better time than the present to start planning for that trip of a lifetime in 2023.
Leading the way in incredible adventures, run responsibly, we’re thrilled to extend our support to Rewilding Europe, so they
can create new wildlife corridors in Croatia’s Velebit Mountains in addition to our existing work in the Italian Apennines. And as always, our expert local guides are continuing to find new ways of supporting local businesses across our destination communities.
We’re also excited to include a new collection of Premium Adventures, which have all the quality of our highly-rated Exodus trips, but with the added extra of unique and premium accommodation in incredible places, and expert-named leaders. On our new wildlife trips, you can see sleepy sloths and Pink dolphins on an Amazon cruise, swim with playful sealions in the Galapagos or head out on game drives to spot cheetahs in the Masai Mara.
Not only are our adventures rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot, but we’ve also been named as a Which? recommended provider for seven years running, so you can rest assured that you’re travelling with an award-winning tour operator you can trust.
So, begin your journey today and book an incredible and unique adventure with Exodus, Your Guide to the World.
SAM SEWARD Managing DirectorADVENTURE Inspiring
Since 1974
More than 40 years ago, we took a group of adventurers to the Minaret of Jam in the heart of Afghanistan on the back of our Bedford truck on a mission to see the world for ourselves. It was the first Exodus trip, a chance to venture into the unknown with fellow explorers, to meet people along the way who could share perspectives different to our own, and to see the diverse destinations that they called home.
Four decades on, our expert guides still look forward to welcoming you and your fellow explorers to discover
the world around us and have been working closely with our local partners to ensure our trips continue to offer a real spirit of adventure while travelling safely.
Since our first trip back in 1974, our passion for travel, culture and discovery has only grown. So too have the friendships forged with those that warmly welcome us. As we support local communities that we visit, we continue to immerse ourselves in the sights, sounds, tastes and experiences of their wonderful homelands. Come and see for yourself on an Exodus adventure.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
After almost 50 years of delivering world-class adventures, we know better than most how awe-inspiring, horizon-expanding, and life-enriching travel can be. We firmly believe that travel should improve life for the people we meet, the places we visit, and the planet we explore. Promising to reduce our carbon emissions and protect our planet’s biodiversity, we’re proud to have launched our Nature First commitment to become nature net positive by 2024. Partnering with Rewilding Europe, one of our most recent conservation projects aims to rewild 5,000 hectares in the Italian Apennines, allowing for safe passage of local wildlife and to help increase the endangered Marsican bear population.

The diverse landscapes you’ll encounter on our Wildlife & Wilderness trip in Botswana are like nowhere else on the planet. From visits to Victoria Falls and whitewater rafting excursions in the Zambezi to safari boat trips across the Okavango Delta and star-studded nights in the other-worldly Makgadikgadi Pans, there’s no denying that our Botswana adventure packs a punch. And Brian, our expert local leader, always goes that extra mile to find incredible wildlife sightings, whether that’s cheetahs chasing impalas in the Savuti Marsh, hippos bobbing in the Okavango swamps or cape buffalo being hunted by lions in the

Moremi Game Reserve. Brian said, “What drives me to guide, year in and year out, is to motivate travellers to appreciate the importance of wildlife conservation, so we can keep viewing these incredible creatures from a safe distance in the wild for generations to come. The ecosystems here are so delicate, and they need our help more than ever before. One of my favourite moments that I’ll never tire of, is watching Bush elephants and their calves playing on the banks of the Chobe River while gliding past on a Mokoro canoe. It’s as if the world goes silent in that moment.”
Wildlife & Wilderness in Botswana EXODUS.CO.UK/TRIP/WZTWILDLIFE ENCOUNTERS
There’s an adrenaline rush when we spot a signature species in the wild. In that second, everything stops, making us feel like we’re the only person in the world privy to these raw moments of magic. Here’s some of our top wildlife experiences.
1. WATCH GREEN TURTLES HATCHING IN COSTA RICA
Tortuguero National Park is one of the most important Green Turtle nesting sites in the world. And seeing Green turtles nesting and hatchlings being born is one of the most interesting natural phenomena to experience first-hand. After spotting Howler monkeys, Scarlet macaws and Caimans on a boat tour across the National Park’s turquoise waterways, you can add on an optional extra to join turtle trackers in the hopes of seeing baby turtles hatch on Tortuguero’s white sands.
Discover Costa Rica:

2. SPEND TIME WITH MOUNTAIN GORILLAS IN UGANDA
Half of the world’s Mountain gorillas live in the misty peaks in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda, so trekking through this area is probably your best chance of locking eyes with this breathtaking species. Coined by locals as the “Place of Darkness”, because of its dense treetops, our team of wildlife trackers will show you how to navigate the river crossings and steep inclines, in the hopes of getting unobstructed views of a band of Mountain gorillas. 4. EXPERIENCE A BAT EXODUS IN BORNEO
Borneo may be known for its Orangutans, Malaysian sun bears and Pygmy elephants, but one of the most memorable and peculiar wildlife encounters to experience is the bat exodus outside Deer Cave in Gunung Mulu National Park. Each evening around 5:30-6:30 pm, these bats congregate at the cave entrance in large ring-shaped formations, circling higher up the cliff face before exiting with gusto in beautiful spiralling ribbons, which at times, can remain unbroken for 20-30 minutes!

3. SEE A POD OF PLAYFUL HIPPOS IN THE OKAVANGO DELTA
Many consider the Okavango Delta to be one of the world’s premier wilderness areas as it’s home to a myriad of species including the African Bush elephant, Giraffe, Leopard, Cheetah, Black Rhinoceros, and high concentrations of Hippo. With our experienced Mokoro polers leading the way in traditional dugout canoes listen out for hippos’ distinctive honking laughs and you may be able to see pods of hippos sunning themselves in an almost human-like fashion on the banks of waterholes.

5. VIEW WHALES BREACH OFF THE COAST OF VANCOUVER ISLAND
Sealions, dolphins, and otters can be spotted along the east coast from Victoria to Campbell River and Port Hardy, and on the west coast of Vancouver Island out of Tofino and Ucluelet, but one of the most unbridled wildlife encounters is undoubtedly watching playful Orcas and Humpback whales breaching from the icy waters! Experts say that the best time for whale watching around Vancouver Island is between April and October, where whale sightings are almost guaranteed!

SHACKLETON’S FOOTSTEPS
A Photographic Expedition with Paul Goldstein: Falklands, South Georgia & Antarctica
Men wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness. Safe return doubtful. Honour and recognition in event of success. This was Ernest Henry Shackleton’s fabled rallying call for his epic expedition to the South Atlantic over a hundred years ago. Comfort levels, safety and indeed cuisine have changed immeasurably since those heroic days but the sense of adventure and discovery remains, particularly when embarking on the remarkable Magellan Explorer.
This new ship is not only superbly equipped it is also the correct size for such a voyage. When there are fewer than 100 people there are no limits on landings, vital for a photographic expedition. When you have the bounteous hours of daylight early November brings, you can rest assured that both Paul and the Magellan Explorer staff will maximise it. Weather can be capricious (at best) in the cold Atlantic so every possible opportunity has to be explored and maximised and this is where this magnificent ship and indeed Paul show inexhaustible supplies of energy.
The voyage is designed to be as flexible as possible, taking advantage of circumstances and events as they occur, as well as passengers’ wishes and particular interests wherever possible. The atmosphere onboard is relaxed and friendly with expedition staff, including naturalists and Polar experts, on hand and the opportunity to mingle with people from all over the world.

Meet Paul
Exodus guide, endangered wildlife campaigner and award-winning photographer Paul Goldstein has often said that he is happiest on the plains of the Masai Mara or the decks of a small ship in the Polar regions. Having completed over thirty expeditions, his choice for late autumn is the South Atlantic. Paul has a ridiculous amount of energy and is, as the Sunday Times described him, ‘a preposterously vivacious guide of almost psychotic gusto’. The Times said ‘no-one will drag you up the photographic ladder quicker’.
ITINERARY GUIDE
Below is an outline to indicate the places you can expect to visit on your trip, however these voyages are designed to be flexible so please treat this as a guide rather than a fixed itinerary.
1 Start Port Stanley, Falkland Islands: You will be picked up at the Port Stanley Airport and transferred into town. There will be time to explore the town of Port Stanley before boarding the ship.
2 Saunders Island & West Point Island: Two thrilling landings at two very different islands with most of Noah’s South Atlantic avian lot on show from albatrosses to penguins. West Point is not only dramatic but has Rockhopper penguins in large numbers.
3 Volunteer Point: There will be no shortage of these regal penguins on this departure, hundreds of thousands of them but to find them on a sparkling white sand beach is very different.
4-5 At Sea: There is a whole team of experts specialising in history, cetaceans, pinnipeds, ice and photography waiting to fill these two days, ensuring everyone is ready for landfall in South Georgia. Once the cold water convergence is reached shortly after leaving the Falklands, there will be no shortage of birds trailing in the Magellan’s wake.
6 Elsehul Bay & Right Whale Bay: An early Zodiac ride along the fertile crescent of Elsehul, a natural harbour with seals, penguins and petrels circling overhead. It is a spectacular hors d’oeuvre to the main course in the afternoon, the gravely named Right Whale Bay with its dramatic surf. It is one of the most photogenic landings on the whole island. Sometimes tricky to get in, it is really worth an extended landing.
7 Salisbury Plain & Prion Island: Every polar guide and leader has their favourite rookery, but Salisbury, with the ability to get well above the colony remains the favourite with many. This captivating beachhead is ringed by distant snow-capped mountains and has well over 100,000 Kings. Salisbury may involve repeated landings, but if there is time, Prion Island, with its nesting Wanderers, is potentially another landing. So graceful in the sky these vast birds are strangely clumsy on land.
8 Stromness, Hercules Bay & Grytviken: If there is not too much snow some people may do the bottom half of Shackleton’s famous final walk (without the glissade!), others can photograph on the delightful bays nearby. In the afternoon a short but mandatory visit to get passports stamped in Grytviken and to visit the museum and reflect on the triple legacy of Shackleton, whaling and the first shots of the Falklands war. There are also nesting light mantled Sooty albatrosses.
9 St Andrews Bay: This is a very special landing and rightfully merits a whole day with multiple landings. The backdrop and frankly sheer number of birds makes this a staggering sight and has been known to devour literally millions of gigabytes. ‘Unique’ is an overused epithet in travel, not here.
MAGELLAN EXPLORER
The Magellan Explorer has capacity for up to 96 guests in various categories of accommodation. All cabins except Porthole cabins feature private balconies. All double cabins except two have two twin beds that can be configured as one king-size bed. All cabins feature a wardrobe, individually controlled heating system, a sitting area, and a private bathroom with shower.
The ship features a glass-enclosed observation lounge and presentation room with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment, a spacious and stylish dining room, a well-stocked bar, a library, a meeting room, a gym, a sauna, and a medical clinic. The forward-facing observation deck leads to the bow of the ship, which is accessible to guests to offer proximity to marine wildlife. The ship has a fleet of 10 Zodiac boats that are well suited for disembarking and wildlife watching.
10 Gold Harbour & Cooper Bay: Think hanging glaciers, Elephant seals jousting in the surf and sand, King penguins marching in tight formations and you have this morning’s landing, it’s called Gold for a reason. Cooper Bay is enjoyed by Zodiac and offers probably the only chance to see the enigmatic Macaroni penguin.
1112 At Sea: A chance to re-charge bodies, batteries and to continue with the ship’s on board presentation programme and to enjoy the outstanding facilities on board.
13 Weddell Sea, Erebus & Terror Gulf: Throughout the sail South it is possible to see both castellated and tabular icebergs, some of them the size of small hamlets or villages. As the bow gets closer to the 7th continent these sculpted bergs may well be decorated by Adelie and Chinstrap penguins. Erebus and Terror Gulf has a huge Adelie penguin rookery for the first Antarctic landing.
14 Antarctic Sound: Icebergs, Adelies and the Northern tip of the Continent.
15 Half Moon Island & Deception Island: Half Moon is dramatic and also a stronghold for Chinstrap penguins, although not a large island it has several very photogenic areas to enjoy. Deception Island is interesting historically but should the weather be calm the exposed landing prospect of Baily Head with 150,000 ‘Chinnies’ is intoxicating.
16 Wilhelmina Bay & Cuverville Island: Probably one of the best areas to witness Orcas and other whales even this early in the season. It is also home to some remarkable mountain scenery as well as many icebergs and Gentoo penguins.
17 Paradise Harbour & Neko Harbour: Many have listed these two as personal favourites and it’s easy to see why. The view from the summit overlooking Paradise Bay is beautiful and being in Zodiacs negotiating the snap, crackle and pop of the ice in the bay is mesmerising. Neko is breathtaking with a large Gentoo colony, the harbour is normally choked by bergs but fairly sheltered. Like all these highlights, plenty of time is required to really immerse yourself and/or your camera in their delights. On this expedition you will get plenty.
18-
19 At Sea This expedition is not over as thousands of birds from prions to pintados and petrels to albatrosses will trail the ship North. Staff will be on hand to ensure this journey is wrapped up in spectacular fashion.

KEY BOOKING INFORMATION
Having chosen the holiday you are interested in, below is some information which you may find useful in relation to your booking and holiday. Details correct at time of publication, please call or go online to check up-to-date booking conditions: www.exodus.co.uk/about-exodus/ exodus-booking-conditions
1. Refer to the Trip Notes
The Trip Notes form part of our contract with you and they contain the most up-to-date information about the holiday, including details about the itinerary, inclusions and exclusions. Please download and take the latest version of the Trip Notes with you on your holiday.
2. About the trip
Is this trip for you?
We aim to provide detailed and accurate information in our documentation so that clients can assess their own suitability and fitness for a specific trip. We ask that you satisfy yourself prior to booking that you are able to complete the itinerary as described in the Trip Notes. All our trips feature Activity Level icons as guides to the type of itinerary and the level of challenge the trip will involve. An explanation of each Activity Level can be found at www.exodus.co.uk/activitylevels . Please let your sales consultant know during the booking process if you have concerns or queries about any aspects of the itinerary.
Participation
We ask our clients to always abide by the authority of the tour leader. There is an agreement in place between Exodus and our tour leaders, allowing them to exclude any client from part or all of a trip if it unfortunately becomes apparent that they cannot manage particular elements of a trip or are likely to put either themselves or other people at risk. It is, however, not a decision that is reached lightly or that is made frequently.
Pre-existing medical conditions
We ask you to let us know of any pre-existing conditions, illnesses, disabilities or recent surgeries which may affect your safety or other people’s enjoyment of the holiday. Please email CustomerServices@exodus.co.uk to make us aware of any pre-existing medical conditions. Our Trip Notes provide information on whether a particular holiday is considered to be suitable for a person with reduced mobility. There is no upper age limit on our tours, but as most holidays are quite active, we may ask clients over the age of 80 a number of questions about their health and fitness. We also require you to advise us of any dietary requirements in advance of a tour.
Accommodation
Our prices are based on twin-share accommodation which means that if you book on your own, we will arrange for you to share with a person of the same gender as per the information given to Exodus at the time of booking. We ask you to satisfy yourself that you do not have any conditions or preferences which may preclude you from sharing a room, and that you speak to your sales consultant if you would like to enquire about a single supplement.
Key information to help you prepare
Important trip documentation will be provided during the booking process and prior to your holiday. If you have any queries or notice any inaccuracies, please contact Exodus as soon as possible.
We are able to provide basic advice to clients regarding passports, visa and entry requirements, but you should check with the appropriate embassy, consulate or the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office for the exact requirements for your chosen tour and date of travel. British nationals require a full passport which is valid for six months after the date of your scheduled return home. The Trip Notes for each holiday provide more detailed information on visa requirements.
We recommend that you contact your Medical Professional or a Travel Health Clinic for information about vaccinations or specific health risks in the area to which you are travelling. Please see the Practical Information section of the Trip Notes for information relating to vaccinations for your specific tour.
The Trip Notes also include information about packing suggestions and essential items that we recommend you bring on your holiday.
Risks of adventure travel
Whilst we ensure that all activities are operated to the local legal standard and that risk assessments are carried out annually, many of our holidays do carry an element of risk. On many of our tours, the areas are remote and events far less predictable than on a conventional holiday. Health, safety and operational standards, particularly of hotels and transport, are often not up to the levels we experience at home. We require that all the properties and transport we use comply fully with local regulations, but we do not guarantee the same standards as in your home country. If you choose to travel on this type of holiday, you must be prepared to accept that this is all part of the experience. Adverse weather conditions, political situations and a host of other uncontrollable factors can mean a change in itinerary. Outdoor activities are weather dependent to an extent and some can become dangerous in certain conditions. If the leader feels there is any heightened level of risk involved in an activity, they may amend or cancel it as they see fit. It is unlikely that an itinerary would be substantially altered, but if changes are necessary, we will make the best possible alternative arrangements which maintain the integrity of the original itinerary. We will do everything we can to minimise the effect, but we cannot be held responsible for the impact of changes outside our control.
Crime and other security risks exist in all countries and whilst travelling in a group is a safeguard, it is not a guarantee of safety. We will take all reasonable care of you and expect that you will take sensible precautions yourself.
3. Booking on a Flight Inclusive or Land Only Basis
Exodus holidays can be booked on a Land Only basis or with international flights. When booking on a Flight Inclusive basis, Exodus complies with our responsibilities under the ATOL regime. For all packages (Flight Inclusive or not) we comply with the Package Travel and Linked Travel Regulations 2018. In the event of a significant change to travel plans by an airline, we are responsible for ensuring that you can complete your journeys in a reasonable timeframe and without additional cost to yourself. Please see point 6 for more information on the Package Travel Regulations. Flight costs and supplements Flight Inclusive prices include return flights from a London airport and UK departure tax. Our Flight Inclusive trip prices include a base price for the flights, however this is always subject to availability at the time of booking as airfares are outside of our control. Where the cost of flights is higher than this base price, a flight supplement may be applicable; your sales consultant will be able to advise you if this is the case.
Transfers
If you are travelling on the designated group flights, return airport transfers may be included at the destination. If you are travelling on non-group flights, airport transfers may be at an additional cost unless shown in your documentation as a free or included transfer; please ask your sales consultant for transfer details during the booking process. If you book on a Land Only basis, services start and end at the local joining point detailed in your documentation.
4. How to book
If you would like to make a booking you can contact us in several ways: directly over the telephone (0203 993 9294), by email using Sales@exodus.co.uk , via our website www. exodus.co.uk and the Live Chat function on our website, or through an approved travel agent.
Travel insurance
Adequate and valid travel insurance for your chosen itinerary is compulsory for all travellers and it is a condition of accepting your booking that you agree you will have obtained adequate and valid travel insurance. We recommend you take out insurance as soon as your booking is confirmed. Notwithstanding the foregoing, for UK travellers on a UK only domestic trip then adequate and valid travel insurance is not compulsory, but we strongly recommend you have cover in place (in particular cover for cancellation, property & personal belongings).
5. Payment, cancellations and changes
Unless stated otherwise during the booking process or in the full terms and conditions, the following applies:
Deposit
You will be asked to pay a deposit at the time of booking of at least 25% per person of your selected travel arrangements (minimum £300 per person or equivalent). You may also be required to pay on booking for any non-transferable and non-refundable items; your sales consultant will advise you of this during the booking process. Please note that for certain travel arrangements, including all Polar holidays, the deposit may be higher than those shown.
Final balance
We will invoice you for the remainder of the cost of your holiday, which must be paid prior to 90 days before departure. In certain cases, including Polar holidays, we may request full payment more than 90 days before departure where, for example, airlines require full payment on booking.
Making changes to your trip
Please contact Exodus as soon as possible if you wish to make a change to your existing booking, wish to change to a different tour or wish to change departure date. We will always endeavour to assist with the requested change, but this is subject to availability and payment may need to be made for non-refundable costs (for example from airlines) and other fees may also be applicable, including a £40 administration charge.
Cancellation conditions
You may cancel your tour at any time by providing written communication from the lead booker. As we start to incur costs from the time the contract is confirmed we will retain your deposit and will apply other cancellation charges as shown below. Please note, however, that for certain travel arrangements, including all Polar holidays, the cancellation charge may be higher than those shown; please ask your sales consultant for full details of cancellation charges at time of booking.

If we change or cancel your booking
We plan the arrangements for your tour many months in advance and may occasionally have to make changes, most of which are minor.
When a major change (as outlined in the full terms and conditions on our website) occurs, you will have the choice of either:
a) accepting the change; or
b) accepting a replacement tour from us of equivalent or similar standard and price (at the date of the change), if we are able to offer you one; or
c) cancelling your tour, in which case you shall receive a full refund of all monies paid.
Most of our trips are group holidays and require a certain number of participants to operate; we include details of normal group sizes in the Trip Notes and on our website. In the unlikely event that a trip does not reach the normal minimum, we may be forced to cancel the tour; a decision will be made as early as possible and not later than 20 days before departure. We reserve the right to confirm trips on numbers lower than
the minimum indicated and occasionally we may exceed the normal maximum. If at the time of booking your trip is not guaranteed, we strongly recommend that you do not make any non-refundable or non-changeable travel arrangements.
