GUEST ARTIST MEMORIES MADE BEAUTIFUL Meet our guest artist, Kerrie Gurney at the fair! Kerrie has a passion for papercraft of all kinds – from stamping to scrapbooking, and everything in between. Her energy and love for teaching all aspects of her craft is infectious and her talent has extended to having her work published nationally and in the USA.
“I love teaching and sharing in the joy people get from creating. I always come away learning something new too!” Come and have a fun papercraft experience with Kerrie - learn about embossing, see the latest embellishments, techniques, products and tools in her daily demonstrations, or create your own card in her make & take classes for just $5.
Kerrie has been involved in the craft industry since 1996 and has tutored at craft events across Australia. She describes her teaching experience in South Africa in 2012 as one of the highlights of her life.

www.craftevents.com.au
“For me, scrapbooking is about the photo and reliving that memory. I don’t think I have a particular style – it’s usually how I am feeling or what I am doing that dictates what I create and inspires me to try new techniques or add texture to projects.” Demonstrations run daily, throughout the day. Kerrie will hold a different card class each day 11.30am – 12noon Cost: $5 per class (includes everything you need to make your card) Book at her display stand at the fair.

BEAUTY IN QUILTS Come and celebrate the Queensland Quilters’ 30th birthday. They have brought together some of the previous Best of Show winners and you’ll also see quilts from their ‘Theme of Thirty’ Challenge and the SOTa14 exhibition. But that’s not all... ■■
■■
■■
■■
See this year’s quilt theme challenge, ‘One Block Quilts’ – just keep an eye out for those quilts where there is one block repeated, with no sashing strips between the block. There was much anticipation around what the members were going to come up with for this challenge! See Tricia Smout present six metres of the ‘Flowers of Friendship’ hanging made out of 10cm squares – representing flowers from 355 friends. Watch demonstrations by Queensland Quilters Inc. members and learn how you can machine quilt on a domestic machine. Admire the workmanship and gain an insight into how machine quilting can change the surface of a quilt top into a ‘work of art’, simply through the use of thread. Take an up-close-and-personal look at the two award-winning Art Union Quilts. Both quilts are award winners from the recent Quilts Across Queensland competition, held by the Royal Agricultural Society. The workmanship can only be fully appreciated ‘in the cloth’.

TOTEMS ON SHOW SEE THESE GORGEOUS FREEFORM TOTEMS AT THE FAIR – KNIT & CROCHET ARTWORK! Freeform knitting and crochet styles have been effectively combined by Prudence Mapstone to produce a display of more than eight arresting totem shapes. Traditionally a totem represents a kinship group and while some poles celebrate cultural beliefs, others – such as the ones in this display – are mostly artistic. All but one are created in freeform style, however ‘Light at the end of the Tunnel’ is created using a style of knitting called intarsia – a technique where fields of different colours and materials appear to be inlaid in one another, but are in fact all separate pieces, put together like a jigsaw puzzle. The vibrant colours, different textiles and techniques will amaze you. See what fun can be had with knitting and crochet!

GUEST ARTIST SVENJA HAS THE ‘WOW’ FACTOR
“I very much enjoy the whole process of bringing a concept to fruition through the initial research, design, and planning stages, then through the handson steps of dyeing, embellishing, and assembling the finished article. Each piece I make is a fusion of sculptural and textural techniques, often beginning with un-dyed silk and merino wool.” Meet Brisbane textile artist Svenja – creator of amazing, internationally award-winning wearable art. Svenja’s textile art pieces have been widely exhibited and awarded across Australia and internationally. Now you can see some of these eye-catching pieces on display at the fair and watch Svenja demonstrating some of the textile art techniques she uses to create them. Last year, two of her pieces won awards at the world-renowned World of Wearable Art TM (WOW), held in September at Wellington, New Zealand.

THE SENTINELLES ENJOY A DISPLAY OF EMBROIDERED TEXTILE ART! The Sentinelles exhibition is the concept of Dijanne Cevaal and originally consisted of just the large pieces by Dijanne. She then hand printed smaller panels that could be bought by others to create embroideries, and each purchaser of these hand printed panels could embroider or embellish the pieces in their own way. This has resulted in contributions by stitchers throughout France and Australia. The exhibition explores aspects of the environment and the term Sentinelle infers watching over. Dijanne has recently returned from a successful exhibition tour with the Sentinelles in France, this moving display can be seen at the fair, before returning to France by popular demand.
