Welcome Dear Craft Fair Friends,
In the midst of winter, what better way to spend an evening than in front of the fire knitting? In Norway, I imagine there are many evenings that could be well spent like this and at the fair this year we welcome two world-renowned knitters from Norway; designers and authors ARNE & CARLOS. Their charming designs, which have a distinct Scandi flavour combined with a witty contemporary edge, have captivated knitters around the world. Their books are much loved, and now you can meet ARNE & CARLOS in person at the fair. Sharing craft ideas with people who share your passion is one of the pleasures of craft; whether they are in your community, in your country or across the other side of the world. On display will be the Aussie Bush Project; an exhibition of shared work initiated by Dijanne Cevaal. Her original linocut designs printed on hand dyed fabric panels, have been embroidered and embellished by people around the country. Come and see the pieces hung together. One of the highlights of the fair will be the Victorian Quilters Quilt Showcase, an exhibition of around 300 traditional, innovative and art quilts made by members, plus several special interest exhibitions. As usual we will have a full program of workshops and hands-on sessions, all day every day of the fair. For the latest updates, visit the website at www.craftevents.com.au Like us on facebook at /intocraft and on Instagram @intocraft to see behind the scenes action. Grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and plan your visit. See you there!

Aussie Bush Project Textile Artist Dijanne Cevaal
Textile artist Dijanne Cevaal has conducted two international projects in recent years, The Sentinelles and The Medieval Project; she designed and printed hand dyed lino-cut prints which textile artists embellished with stitch. Both were so well received and resulted in exciting visual exhibitions that she has embarked on a new theme: The Aussie Bush Project. The latest project will be displayed at the fair. Panels feature four different Australian bush themes which have been embellished and embroidered by stitchers around the country. The themes are Gumnuts and Gum Leaves; Banksia Cones and Flowers; Unfurling Fern Frond and Blackwoods Dancing. Meet Dijanne at the fair and enjoy her demonstrations of lino cutting and printing. Boomerang Bags is a community-driven initiative where fabric bags are available for you to borrow when you do your shopping, so that you don’t have to use plastic bags. After borrowing the bag it is then returned to the collection point to be used by your neighbour. To date there are 35 Boomerang Bags communities across Australia, and over 28,000 bags have been produced.
Boomerang Bags relies entirely on the generosity of local residents, who donate their time to sew the bags using donated materials. Visit Boomerang Bags at the Melbourne Craft & Quilt Fair to see how you can make a change in your own community.
