Well it seems like Christmas was a lifetime ago, it also
seems a lifetime ago that I ate out, had a drink in a pub and went away on holiday. What I can say with optimism is that I will never take things for granted again. We are certainly missing these things at the moment but it is only temporary and hopefully later this month a roadmap back to normality will be announced. As we are missing the things I mentioned this edition of 01636 is missing most of our advertisers from the Hospitality sector but hopefully given a successful road map our Hospitality advertisers and the new ones that have enquired will be back with us in our Spring issue. Whilst we are lacking in the Hospitality sector, we are thriving in other areas, we have welcomed Paul Zemontas and Kelly Bryan to our team. As you will see, Paul has introduced many new advertisers to the magazine and Kelly has brought you local community news stories as well as designing several of the advertisers adverts. If you're into the supernatural, enjoy our Spooky Tales section. If your kids are fans of Dinosaurs and Jurassic Park then read about Claypoles very own Dinosaurs but be warned you will need to dig out your wellies once the kiddies know all about it. There are many interesting things for you to read in this Feb/March issue, enjoy it and please email your thoughts to 01636magazine@gmail.com

You can come Please me to publicise anythree days foremail the whole four days, or for events in your local community from Friday to Sunday. Day tickets will also be available nearer the or festival. 01636magazine@gmail.com In aus "normal contact on year" there'd be loads of international acts, 4 covered main stages, in big tops and large marquees; plus workshops, 01636magazine dancing, great traders, lovely food, great beers, and the most friendly audience and volunteers you'd find anywhere; on-site camping (with your car by your tent if you like) and proper toilets and showers. The Mary Elizabeth Siebel Trust – helping the Newark elderly stay independent in their homes since 1990. A Newark-based charity that helps elderly people to stay independently in their homes for as long as possible is urging them to apply for grants. Despite the pandemic, the trustees of the Mary Elizabeth Siebel Trust are still accepting applications for grants, which can be used for a range of items, including mobility aids and minor property alterations. The Mary01636magazine Elizabeth Siebel Trust was set up 30 years ago to help people over the age of 60 with grants to help them stay in their own homes and be as mobile as they can for as long as possible, but who find it hard because of health and financial reasons.
Applicants must meet certain requirements, like living within 12 miles of Newark Town Hall, but that catchment area covers an enormous part of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, stretching from the centre of Newark up to North Clifton, east to Welbourn, south to Bottesford and west to Farnsfield, covering every town and village in between. The trust can help with items including mobility aids, reclining chairs, bathing aids, special beds, stair lifts, and minor property repairs, decoration and modification. Other requests will be considered, including help towards larger projects so people are urged to apply if they need help to allow the trustees to consider their requirements. Anyone who would like to apply for a grant needs to complete an application form, available from Tallents Solicitors on Middlegate, Newark. The application must be supported by a doctor or healthcare professional, and the financial situation will be considered. Completed grant application forms should be returned to Tallents at 3 Middlegate, Newark, NG24 1AQ.

01636magazine In the last issue of 01636 Magazine, I did a
write up of my visit to Navenby to meet Chris at Pedal Electric Cycles. I was meant to be doing the same for this issue complete with crash helmet to road test the brand-new electric motor scooter, but of course the good old British weather has decided to gift us with snow and ice. After a brief telephone conversation with Chris it has been decided that perhaps the Spring issue will be more suitable for the scooter road test. So, in this Feb/Mar issue we are going to take a look at several Electric Pushbike models, starting with the Emu Roam.

With many Newark Roads having dedicated cycling paths, cycling in
and around Newark is a popular pastime, not only is it a pastime many Newark folk still cycle to and from work. One of the most scenic and peaceful cycle tracks is along the old Branch Line, Newark to Cotham route. This takes in 5.8 miles and you can join the route at Newark Northgate station or at the Bridge on Hawton Lane in Balderton. The old Branch line closed in the 1980s, it was a passenger line from when it opened in 1878 until 1955 and after that became a freight line and was used by local company British Gypsum. Now it is a nature hot spot, many different trees and flowers and many animals and insects can be seen.Be sure to get out your push bike and enjoy the 5.8 miles the track has to offer.
01636 Magazine would like to hear your cycling stories and your preferred routes, for the opportunity to get them published in a future issue please e mail us at: 01636magazine@gmail.com 18

Living the dream - Newark FC’s epic FA Cup run
20 20
T
he end of last season prematurely ended due to the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdown in the UK, and the stuttering start to this season certainly threw up some unique difficulties and meant a lot more work was needed at Lowfields to make sure it was safe for players, match officials, spectators and backroom staff. The start of the season was set for the beginning of September, and the curtain opener would be the first preliminary qualifying round of The FA Cup.It took a century for FA Cup football to arrive at Lowfields, and almost 60 years since a Newarkbased team had been accepted into the competition. But finally on a balmy night at the beginning of September, the COVID-19 risk assessments had been completed and spectator safety measures put in place, Yorkshire TV cameras were there, and the new look team where finally ready for action. Our visitors, Deeping Rangers FC from South Lincolnshire, were only able to fight the tide for so long and once local hero Danny Meadows breached their defences just before the break, there was only going to be one winner. In the second half goals were added by Rashaan Francis and Liam King – whose strike still remains a contender for goal of the season – and an own goal. The final score 4-0, and Newark Football Club were into the next round. Now in days of old, we would crowd round a wireless to get the first news of the cup draw. Today it’s announced via social media, which greatly improves the speed at which we get the information, but also removes a little of the romance from the competition at the same time. But looking down the list and seeing we had drawn Maltby Main FC out of the hat, it was time to get the map book out, to see where we would be playing! Maltby and their ground was found not only by the club and its officials, but around 100 travelling supporters. Venturing up the in the late summer sunshine, we found the hospitality of Maltby Main outstanding, especially given the continuing difficulties of player and spectator safety in the wake of the pandemic. Once the referee blew his whistle, the players certainly put on a show, controlling the game throughout the 90 minutes. At the end of the game, the score-line was 0-4, with goals from Kevin Bastos, Ben Hutchinson, Nathan Stainfield and Craig Westcarr; and so the first qualifying round beckoned. So, it was back to the wireless (I mean computer screen) for the draw –to be honest it wasn’t kind to us, another away match, but this time and against opponents two levels higher and a name known to many for their time in the football league – Rushden and Diamonds.
We hoped to make a good account of ourselves, to show what Newark football was all about. What happened was that the players put in arguably the best performance ever seen by a Newark football team. What happened that night in Northamptonshire will live in the memory of every fan, supporter and follower of The Highwaymen forever, not forgetting the players, managers, and backroom staff. A first minute penalty and three up after twenty minutes put us all in dreamland, the home side had advised everyone against chanting but the 150 plus from Newark had other ideas as they went through their full repertoire of songs. Despite expecting a ferocious fightback from our hosts, it finished 0-5, with goals from Keven Bastos, Ben Hutchinson (x2) and Danny Meadows (x2). So once again we were through to the next round (the second qualifying round) and we once again waiting for the social media announcements. It was another away drawer, this time crossing the border into Derbyshire, and Mickleover Sports FC. This time however, our reputation from the previous round meant we were treated with a lot of respect by the home team, notwithstanding playing 2 leagues higher. On a cold and wet October afternoon we bowed out of the competition, in truth our opponents from were the better team on the day and deserved winners. Yet again the players gave a great show of themselves, despite what the 4-1 score-line suggests, for much of the game we were competitive; and for the ninety-nineth time during his time playing for us, Elliot King was on the scoresheet. Once again, the travelling support of about 200, put on a remarkable singing from start to finish, with an expanded repertoire. And that was it!
“In one extraordinary month we found new heroes, made new friends, created a choir, gained even more wonderful fans and were privileged to live the dream. Roll on next season!!!” Article courtesy of Mick Bradley

The local directors Sallyann Buckley and Stephen Ferguson ( known to have been referred to as Newark’s (Kirsty & Phil) have been involved in property sales in Newark and the local area for over 50 years between them, so have a great knowledge of the Estate Agency Business and property in the area. Now Homes was established in 2010 and in that time they have expanded to premises double the size of their original office. The town centre location on Castlegate has proved hugely successful, offering customers both convenient parking along with a central location. Approximately 6 years ago they developed the letting side of the business also and now manage a considerable portfolio of rental properties. The business has moved from strength to strength and although the property market is always challenging they have never regretted the day they started. Having worked previously for large corporate agents, they wanted to offer a more personal service which was value for money and feel this has been achieved, looking at their Google and Facebook reviews their customers agree the majority awarding 5 stars.
Now Homes see many clients sellers and buyers return time after time and work mostly on the recommendations they receive. Their motto from the outset having been “SUCCESS BUILT ON REPUTATION AND RECOMMENDATION”. As Directors both Sallyann and Stephen are fully hands on in the office and have recently been joined by Letting Manager Henrietta McCabe who runs ( along with approx. 25 miles a week!) a smooth and organised operation for all those Landlords choosing the fully managed service.
They pride themselves on being available to speak to 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm ( they do take it in turns at the weekends though!) For any assistance regarding selling or renting property in the local area,. Please do not hesitate to call NOW on 01636 858311 they will be happy to help with any enquiries or advice. he village of Claypole is about 2 miles South of Balderton. Claypole is a lovely old picturesque village that is mentioned in the Doomsday book as Claipol and at that time it could boast a Church, a Priest and a mill.
NATURE
The Devils Toenail Claypoles very own dinosaur.
The Population now is slightly higher and the figure from the 2011 Census was 1,382, since that Census 10 years ago quite a few new developments have sprung up.As youngsters my friends and me would regularly pushbike to Claypole, mainly to go fishing on the River Witham, we used to fish the stretch between the road bridge and the weir. Back then using luncheon meat as bait you could catch some decent size chub. Very often in the summer we would go to Claypole to swim in the river. Along the banks of the river we would find what is known as the Devils Toe nails. These are actual fossils of gnarled oyster shells who's real name is GRYPHAEA ARCUATA, they are roughly 200 million years old and date back to the dinosaur age. I told my daughter about them when she was younger, she did’nt believe me and asked me to take her to Claypole to find one, sure enough we found a couple. She took them to school telling the others she had found a dinosaur. There are not many places they can be found but luckily Claypole is one of them, most are found on the South Coast but dating back to the Jurassic Period they were also in the rocks along the Lincolnshire Edge
. If you've never seen a Devils Toenail, pull on your wellies and wander along the banks of the Witham at Claypole, your sure to find them, at certain times of the year though be sure to take a carrier bag because those fields are teaming with large mushrooms and Blue stalks. If you see the farmer, always ask his permission.

ake a historic town like Newark on Trent, combined with its villages, many which pre-date the Doomsday book and you're bound to be told stories of the many ghosts & legends from around the area.As a kid living in Balderton I got told of a few ghosts, the most notable being the ghost of Charlie on Main St Railway Bridge, Charlie was a man that supposedly committed suicide by jumping of Main St Bridge into the path of an coming steam train. The local Bailiff at the Main Street Railway ponds told us he had seen Charlie on many occasions and on the anniversary of Charlie's death you were meant to hear the aairy scream at the precise time that Charlie jumped. . My cousin and myself used to go night fishing at the ponds and once it became dark you dare not look towards the bridge.
None of us ever saw Charlie or heard the scream. Charlie was of course one of those stories the older ones would use to scare the younger ones of us but there are many stories related to apparitions in the area, especially in Newark itself. There are the obvious ones at the Castle and in the grounds, the most notable being the ghost of King John. King John passed away in Newark Castle on the night of October 18th 1216, the official story is that the King died of Dysentery after binge eating peaches that may have been slightly off but another story is that the King was poisoned by Friar Tuck in retaliation for the murder of Maid Marion.
Win yourself a copy of Ian Gillanders book "Newark's Historical Ghost Walk" Newark born author Ian Gillanders has donated us a copy of his fascinating book of his Ghost Walks and encounters. To win the book please answer these 2 questions that Ian has set. 1-What is the connection between the Palace Theatre and the Lodge in Lime Grove? 2-who relieved the town during the 2nd siege in the Civil War? Please email your answers to 01636magazine@gmail.com We will draw the winner out on March 1st. We will publish the answers and the winner in the April/May edition of 01636

While Lawrence is not the subject of the hauntings at the club it is very interesting to know that it was a place Lawrence of Arabia chose to spend his leisure time. The next of Chris Hallams stories comes from the club. One night while doing a ghost night there, Chris turned around and saw two ghostly children following him, he also felt a terrible sense of dread about the place. On the night of the ghost night Chris said to the others "ok let's get started" on saying that the group heard the click of a snooker ball queuing off, when the group looked at the snooker table the table was covered over and not a ball to be seen. As the night went on the group held a seance, during the seance a woman stood up and broke the circle and at the same time another woman stood up screaming and crying as if possessed, Chris managed to calm things down and the group went for a stiff drink to calm the nerves. The ladies toilets at the club are also said to be haunted with many women mysteriously being locked in the toilets by an invisible force. . Many buildings in and around the town have their resident Ghosts, The Palace Theatre is meant to be a spooky place when the lights go down, Balderton Hairdresser Sue Peck told me that her mother had encountered the legendary Grey Lady in the Upper Circle, the Grey Lady walked past her in the Upper circle and through to the boxes to the right. Another chap Chris Hughes once lived at 62 Beacon Hill Rd, very often a door would rattle, to begin with they put this down to the draught coming from the cellar but this later lead to pots and pans being thrown around, Chris,s mum could only put this down to a Poltergeist. Chris says they did get used to it but eventually moved to Radcliffe. Annette Evans lived at the old Queens House on London Rd near Staple Lane. Many many years ago the building was a pub, I myself grew up just up the road from Queens House and as a kid it was a building I stayed away from because of the stories I was told. Annette said during her 4 years there many strange and spooky things happened.

Recently a photograph has circulated on social media showing what does look like the ghost of King John stood at a window in the castle. Story has it though that even though the Castle is around 800 years old the most sighted ghost is that of a Castle Warden that hung himself in the King's bedroom in the early 1900s. Several Castle Guides claim to have seen the Wardens Ghost swinging by the neck jolting around like he was gasping for his last few breaths. The Dungeons at the castle are said to be a place not to venture into at night time, they say terrifying screams and the cries of tortured souls can be heard. It's not just the Castle though where hauntings are commonplace, local Ghost Hunter Chris Hallam has given us permission to use a few stories of his own experiences in the town. One of those stories comes from the King Charles Coffee House on Kirkgate, the Coffee House is a beautiful example of a building from the early 1600;s, the coffee house also has a Royal pedigree. Chris had a friend that ran both the Coffee shop upstairs and a flower shop downstairs, after being invited Chris and a friend visited the Coffee shop about 6 years ago. On exploring the old building they found downstairs a back kitchen with an old black range and bread oven. Chris felt drawn to this room and after a quick coffee upstairs he went back down to the room, armed only with a torch he heard a voice say to him "what do you want? Get out". Chris felt that this presence was malevolent, it stopped Chris in his tracks, he turned around and went back upstairs, they left soon afterwards. There have been other haunting stories from that room including a woman being possessed by the spirit and others of people being pushed and feeling uneasy. Situated on Barnby Gate in Newark is the Newark Town & District Club, since 1933 this beautiful building has been a Private Gentleman's Club, back in the day the club was often frequented by T E Lawrence most famously known as Lawrence of Arabia, Lawrence used to regularly visit the club during his stay at RAF Cranwell.
The Ghosts of Newark is a subject that could fill every page in this magazine but for now I hope you enjoy the stories I have covered. Many thanks to Chris Hallam and the others that have contributed to this article. If you have a Ghost story of your own, please email it to me at kevinabryan7@gmail.com

HISTORY 44 4444
Newark Castle was founded in the mid 12th century by Alexander, Bishop of Lincoln. In a charter thought to date 1135, King Henry I granted the Bishop of Lincoln permission to build the castle. Bishop Alexander also established a mint at the castle. The early castle was of timber construction, it was rebuilt in stone towards the end of the century. King John died after a feast at this castle in 1216 from dysentery. During the Civil War, the castle and the Town endured three sieges during which extensive earthwork defences were built. One of these structures, t he Queen's Sconce, survives surprisingly intact. Between 1845 and 1848 the architect Anthony Salvin restored the castle, and in 1889 the corporation of Newark purchased the building and carried out further restoration work. The castle is a Scheduled Ancient Monument a "nationally important" historic building and archaeological site and has been given protection against unauthorised change. It is also a Grade I listed buildingand recognised as an internationally important structure.During the Civil War, the castle and the Town endured three sieges during which extensive earthwork defences were built. One of these structures, the Queen's Sconce, survives. In 1549, Newark was granted its first Charter of Incorporation by King Edward VI. This gave the town the right to govern itself, and to elect its first Alderman Anthony Foster. Altogether, Newark was granted six Charters between 1549 and 1677. Each Charter gave the Town further civic powers and privileges. The Fifth Charter of 1626 under King Charles I granted the Alderman the dignity of Mayor. The first Mayor was Henry Gill, elected on 1st July 1626. Only two of the original Charters are known to exist today. These documents, together with the Coat of Arms granted to the town by Queen Elizabeth I in 1561, are currently held at Nottingham Archives. The presence of a potentially large and significant villa of Roman origin to the south east of the present 11th century Norman Southwell Minster was first noted in the 18th century. A Roman villa at Southwell was first discovered in the late 18th century by the antiquarian archaeologist Major Hayman Rooke. Little is known about the form and purpose of the villa. In 968 the Danes and Vikings swept up the rivers Humber and Trent to Nottingham, passing through Newark. The Saxon King Edward the Elder then conquered the Danes in 950.I n recent years Saxon burials have been found at Newark Castle
The only female to be interred in Newark Cemetery CWGC plot is Anastazja Kulińska, of the Pomocnicz a Lotnicza Służba Kobiet [Polish Women's Auxiliary Air Service]. Born 18 April 1920 and working as a waitress in the officers’ mess at RAF Faldingworth, L incolnshire, where 300 Squadron was based. An inquest at Market Rasen on 12 August 1946, five weeks after her death, focused largely on letters written by Damian Kuliński her husband a rifleman with the Carpathian Rifle Brigade, Polish II Corps. The Carpathian Rifle Brigade had suffered heavy losses, especially at the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944. He wrote: “The time has come for a settlement and the only thing left is one life together or one grave together. Therefore, please choose for yourself. Therefore, I recommend that we shake hands. I offer you from my side nothing bad and hope that you will be a good wife .” Anastazja replied: “Do not think there is someone else. It is sufficient that I do not love you. I do not forget your heavy hands. Do you remember when you wanted to throw me into the river? You will remember in the train you raised your hand and God would not let you do it.” She went on to make it clear that she wanted a divorce. Anastazja's letter to ‘a man described as a friend’, saying: “When I receive a letter from you and read it, I feel that I am near you and feel that I am pressing myself to you. I feel your lips so desiring against mine … I cannot forget you. ” The Coroner, Captain R. H. Helmer, made no attempt to identify the writer. But the reply was read out by Flight Lieutenant Edward Johnson translated from Polish: “I am waiting for the moment I can see you. You should have received four letters last week.” he added: “There are some endearments which cannot be translated.” A friend of Anastazja’s, Leonarda Kornilowicz, also a member of the WAAS, said Anastazja had been friendly with a sergeant two years earlier, but he went away a fairly long time ago and the husband did not seem to have any cause for jealousy. Leonarda added: “When Anastazja learned that her husband had come to the camp, she seemed quite merry. She said, ‘I will tell him off and get it over once and for all’.” And off she went to see him for the first time since they fled Poland… When Anastazja had not returned by midnight, her fellow WAAS’s were so concerned that they persuaded an NCO to telephone the station police and ask for an immediate search to be made for her. The police refused to do anything until morning
At 6am, the WAAS’s themselves began a search– and WAAF Nedzik found both bodies near the pumping station. Professor James M. Webster, forensic pathologist carried out the post mortem examinations, said Anastazja had been shot twice from the back. The shot that killed Damian had been fired “an appreciable time later”. Damian had gripped the gun so tightly that a distinct imprint of the handle had been left on his sweaty hand. The coroner, Captain R. H. Helmer, asked: “You are perfectly satisfied that this man shot himself and that nobody else shot him?” Prof.Webster: “Yes.” Coroner Helmer described Damian’s letter as “a most material piece of evidence”. In his summing-up of the evidence to the jury, he stated: “Whoever this boyfriend was, he was obviously much more than an acquaintance. There was a great deal of almost more than affection between them. Had the husband got to know something of this? He might or might not. There is not sufficient evidence to tell. It is for the jury to decide whether there was terrible dispute between them. You have heard that two shots were fired close together and one shot fired some time afterwards. The man was found gripping the revolver with a tightness sufficient to impress the outline upon his hand. Was there a battle royal between them? Did she madden him to such a degree that he lost control? Are these the actions of a man who lost control or did the man realise what he was doing? If he did realise what he was doing, he was guilty of murder.” The jury agreed. They returned verdicts that Damian murdered Anastazja and then committed suicide “while the balance of his mind was disturbed”. Szeregowiec Anastazja Kulińska is remembered in Newark Cemetery. Strzelec Damian Kuliński is remembered in Market Rasen Cemetery, both graves tended by the Commonwealth War Games Commission.

T
he first Bramley's Seedling tree grew from pips planted by Mary Ann Brailsford when she was a young girl in her garden in Southwell. She left the house when she married and probably never saw the apples that were produced. Mary died in 1852 not knowing that her seedling was to become famous. The tree was included in the purchase of the cottage by local butcher, Matthew Bramley. In 1856, a local nurseryman, Henry Merryweather, asked if he could take cuttings from the tree and sell the apples. Bramley agreed on one condition that the apples should bear his name. The first recorded sale of a Bramley apple was made in 1862 and in 1876 the Bramley was highly commended at the Royal Horticultural Society's Fruit Committee exhibition. The original tree was knocked over during violent storms in 1900 but still survived and is still bearing fruit two hundred years later. The Bramley is now the most important cooking apple in Britain. Although the Bramley is almost exclusively a British apple it is still grown by a small number of United States farms, and can be found in Canada, Australia and Japan. There are many celebrations and Southwell hosts many of them, including the Bramley Apple Festival. On the 3rd Saturday in October, Southwell Minster hosts the Opening Ceremony and the Food & Drink Festival. The Bramley Apple Inn is located just a few doors away from the original apple tree. In 2018, 27 Church Street was bought by Nottingham Trent University to preserve the building and the tree for future generations, the tree can be visited by prior appointment. A blue plaque on the house now commemorates the apple and in 2009 a window commemorating the 200th anniversary of the planting of the tree was installed in Southwell Minster.

WINTER SKINCARE Use plenty of moisturiser as it’s the best way to achieve a dewy glowy complexion in the wintery months.. It is useful to do this before thinking of getting out the highlighter. Hydration is so crucial in any skincare regime. Stay away from anything too powdery powder can make fair skin look very dull. use a luminous primer instead of a traditional matte one.

fter what was a difficult year in 2020 we at 01636 look to better days in 2021 Top of a lot of New Year Resolution lists is a promise to get fit: over the next two pages we give you some tips on fitness and diet to help you on your journey.
Walking, jogging, cycling.
Walking, jogging and cycling are very important parts of a healthy lifestyle. These activities keep your heart and lungs active and your blood flowing. Plan out a daily walking, jogging or cycling routine that fits with your schedule, you can increase your distance, speed, and the length of your workout as you go along. Always go out of your way to walk more ie, if you go to the shops try to park in the farthest spot from the entrance so you are forced to walk those extra steps to get there, also walk or bike to work or school. When jogging you should jog at least 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) and make sure you pace yourself.
Exercising at home
If you don’t have the time or money to go to the gym there is no need to, working out at home is very easy. At home exercises can include Push-ups: use your weight against the floor or wall to work on your upper body strength. Sit-ups: Sit-ups can be done by simply laying on the ground or, with a more advanced technique, with a chair or exercise ball. Yoga: Yoga practices such as downward facing dog or sun salutations are easily done on the carpet or on a yoga mat
Exercise in the gym.
If you like the gym atmosphere the gym is a great place to stay fit. Machines can be useful for cardio and weights, but never use a weight that is too heavy. By using smaller weights you will progress through the weights. You can also learn strength training and muscle toning techniques from a personal trainer.
Stick to your plan. You are the only one that can control your actions. Stick to a daily or every other day plan. Don't let others bring you down. 62 62
.
L
Stop eating junk food, if you exercise and eat a lot of junk food you will not get any fitter. Junk food turns to fat almost immediately and Junk foods have very poor nutritional value and are usually high in salt and sugar causing your body sugar levels to drop making you feel tired and lacking in energy. Foods you should avoid that contain a lot of sugar are donuts, cakes, cookies, pudding, cereals, canned and dried fruits, and sodas. Foods high in fat are processed meats and hydrogenated oil. Also avoid foods containing artificial ingredients
HEALTH & FITNESS
Maintain a Balanced Diet
Eating healthy.
Making sure you have a balanced diet can be difficult if you don’t get the time to cook for yourself. Howeverit is also easy to find healthy food in restaurants and take aways. Having a healthy and balanced diet can increase your energy and productivity, help boost your metabolism and improve your wellbeing. Healthy foods include fresh vegetables and fruit, carrots, onions, broccoli, spinach, eggplant, melons, bananas, apples, and oranges. High protein foods includes lean meat, poultry, fish, legumes, nuts and seeds (like chia and hemp), tofu, soy beans, eggs, cottage cheese, and lentils. Grains include whole wheat toast, oatmeal, quinoa, and barley. Foods that are high in fibre include cooked lentils, black beans, green peas, pears, raspberries, and oat bran.
When to eat.
Avoid missing meals it is often thought that skipping meals enables you to lose weight.; this is very inaccurate and skipping meals can have a terrible effect on your energy levels. Examples of healthy meals and snacks and when to eat them are: Light breakfast: eggs (you can mix eggs with some veggies like artichokes, peppers, or mushrooms, etc.) with grapefruit and a piece of toast. Mid morning snack: unsweetened yogurt with berries Lunch: salad (be careful of the dressing!) with a protein (i.e. grilled chicken or turkey) Afternoon snack: apple, orange, or a banana with almonds and a spoonful of peanut butter Dinner: lemon baked salmon with brown rice, carrots and asparagus. Drink a lot of water, your body is made of about 50-65% water, and your body sweats a lot of that water so you need to put it back in.

Even if you feel as though your car is running perfectly fine, it is always a good idea to get a Winter Check. From the tiny contact patch of the tyres to the functioning of suspension, brakes, steering, and the electronics it is important to keep things in full, proper working order. It is important to repair simple yet potentially deadly faults. Winter Checks concentrate on six main areas of the vehicle. - Tyre Inspection- Battery Test - Coolant & Antifreeze Top-up - Windscreen Wipers Inspection - Lights Assessment - Oil Level Replenishment
Hybrid Electric Cars Hybrid cars come in two types SELF CHARGING ones which use some of the petrol or diesel engine power to recharge and give you some electric-only driving, or PLUG IN HYBRIDS (PHEVs), which charge via a plug, and are becoming more popular.
