FERIA CASTLE

From Feria’s Castle emerges its impressive keep, a magnificent example of military Gothic architecture. It has four floors, where the first corresponds to the quarters for the lords of the castle, two more for other uses, finishing with a terrace that offers

privileged views of the region of Zafra - Rio Bodion.

The castle is accessed through the homage courtyard, walking along the wall, you can then enter the tower that houses the Señorío de Feria Interpretation Centre.

GRANADILLA Zarza de Granadilla An immortal medieval town

The walled town of Granadilla, founded in the ninth century by the Muslims, was vacated in the 1960s to build the nearby Gabriel y Galán reservoir. It is currently undergoing rehabilitation to regain its splendour.

The spanish film director, Pedro Almodóvar used it as the setting for his film ¡Átame!

From its castle you can enjoy wonderful views, especially at sunset. The town has visiting hours, so check the opening times before your visit.

EL PALANCAR CONVENT Pedroso de Acim

The smallest in the world

“El Conventico”, as it is known, was founded by Fray Pedro de Alcántara in the 16th century. A friar of humble character, he ordered the construction of a

room, dominated by austerity, with the right dimensions to be able to carry out monastic

life. Its founder, who was 6’2” tall slept sitting with his head rested against a small log on the wall.

Currently El Palancar’s Convent has become a place of meditation, pilgrimage and retreat.

ERMITA DEL ARA Fuente del Arco The Sistine Chapel of Extremadura

It is one of the most symbolic constructions of the Mudejar style in lower Extremadura and dates back to the end of the 14th century. Twenty-

six scenes from the book of Genesis unfold in the vault of the sanctuary.

From the outside, the beautiful Mudejar arches and the two-section bell tower stand out from which to contemplate the Sierra de San Miguel, the Sierra del Viento and the banks of the Ara.

The base is decorated with geometric figures possibly painted with minerals from the nearby Jayona Mine.
