GRANADILLA Zarza de Granadilla
FERIA CASTLE South watchtower
An immortal medieval town
From Feria’s Castle emerges its impressive keep, a magnificent example of military Gothic architecture. It has four floors, where the first corresponds to the quarters for the lords of the castle, two more for other uses, finishing with a terrace that offers privileged views of the region of Zafra - Rio Bodion.
The walled town of Granadilla, founded in the ninth century by the Muslims, was vacated in the 1960s to build the nearby Gabriel y Galán reservoir. It is currently undergoing rehabilitation to regain its splendour. The spanish film director, Pedro Almodóvar used it as the setting for his film ¡Átame!
From its castle you can enjoy wonderful views, especially at sunset. The town has visiting hours, so check the opening times before your visit.
The castle is accessed through the homage courtyard, walking along the wall, you can then enter the tower that houses the Señorío de Feria Interpretation Centre. www.turismoextremadura.com/es/explora/Castillo-de-Feria/
