ROMAN THEATRE OF REGINA Casas De Reina EVERY BODY ON STAGE!

It is the most representative building of the ancient Roman city of Regina Turdulorum.

The city was founded in the first century. Thanks to its restoration we can appreciate the main original elements and its capacity, one thousand spectators, proof of it’s great importance in the Iberian Peninsula.

In the summer it has a classical theatre programme and it’s also host to Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival.

Metellinum was an important Roman colony, proof of this is its magnificent theatre dating back to the end of the 1st century BC. It is in an excellent

state of conservation,

especially the steps, with up to 800 granite ashlars, and the exposed columns we can see are the originals.

To learn more about the past of the interesting city of Medellín, you can visit the Church of Santiago, the archaeological park’s interpretation centre, It’s also host to Mérida International Classical Festival Theatre, whose programme you can enjoy during the summer months.
