TEMPORAL HERITAGE

MUSEE ATELIER AUDEMARS PIGUET

TEXT: FLORENCE JACQUINOT

Fine watchmaking is part of the Swiss heritage. Our mechanical legacy stems from this traditional industry of watchmakers from the finest companies. In the heart of the Vallée de Joux, from the shores to the valleys, the atmosphere is calm and unhurried. Composed of valleys, lakes, and vast spruce tree forests, this landscape inspires excellence and the art of contemplation. It is within the silence of nature that is isolated and inhospitable – within harsh winters and northern winds as cold as Siberia – that raw creativity is found.

When constructing the Musée-Atelier, Audemars Piguet realized the temporal heritage in this museum building’s architecture. The site unlocks a door to the marvelous and represents a quest towards the past. Like any passage to another time, it is an enchantment of perfect mimetism. The building fits perfectly within its natural surroundings that are hostile for most of the year. From above, the building’s spirals resemble a portal to another galaxy.

Indeed, a veritable solar system awaits visitors inside. Time seems to spiral backward like a propeller launching a take-off towards wonder. Wound gears are reminiscent of the golden grandeur of the past, with each timepiece revealing the talents of its watchmaker. Visitors are warmly welcomed and can explore the extensive and luxurious setting, which we can attest to as first-hand incognito journalists of this article. The guides share their specialized knowledge and the voyage back in time is unforgettable. Every representative for this prestigious watchmaker contributes wholeheartedly and takes an audacious pride in serving as your guide.
