Preface Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have found alternatives to go on with our lives by video calls, online lectures, online shopping and online EYP sessions. Furthermore, since our session’s theme is “Technology that works for the people”, here is a collection of online platforms and their functions that come in handy that are not known by the majority of people. They were recommended by the session’s participants. The aim of this media project was to make everyone exchange ideas and information with each other. At the end, we were both informed and have discovered different sides of the internet.

Forest is an amazing app to help you focus and not go back onto your phone. By studying, you plant online trees on your plot of land for every minute studies (a full tree grows after a 2 hour study session). The more you study the more you stay focused and can plant different types of greenery! Pomofocus is the free alternative website to Forest and sets a timer for the pomodoro method of studying. The IB website has all pdf books and past papers starting from like 1996 in all offered IB subjects and is the biggest help on earth. The other IB website saves you in maths. Trust me, I am doing Higher Level AA.

Anki is a flashcard app. What makes it different is that the app schedules your cards for you based on your answers. There are 3 answers available while studying: Again - Good Easy. The app makes you study your cards until you fully learn them. Plus, it has a lot of users so you can easily find cards on popular subjects like calculus, chemistry, etc. online.

This is a website which lets you listen to radio channels while watching a video of a vehicle driving around places in different cities around the globe. It is always great to learn about new places that I have never really seen firsthand before. I was especially surprised to see that any city in any country look approximately the same (e.g. Tel Aviv looks just like a city from Central Europe in my view). It really brought a sense of community, a feeling that humanity is connected in a way. I don´t use it that often but it is fun to hop onto the website again once in a while. Also, it helps me get away from the stress of lockdown and "go outside" virtually.

When someone shares their screen on Zoom, you can actually request remote control, and control their computer remotely. For instance you can write whatever you want on your keyboard and it will appear on the screen or even you can control their pointer. Actually, this function rather scares me in terms of being controlled by another person. But it can be both beneficial and effective, when it comes to the lessons.

Shazam is an app to find out the title of a song, when you don't know it. Moreover, it saves all the songs in a list.

There is a website in which you draw an outline that will then turn into a realistic landscape. When there is a scenery you have in mind but can't draw to canvas without a reference, this immensely helps.
