Technology Development

Preface In order to comprehend the speed of the technology developing, I asked everyone to take a photo of the oldest technological tools they have got and explain their functions, so that it would get much easier to compare them to the new technological tools.

The goal of this media project is to comprehend the century that we all in is nothing but technology itself and understand whether people’s needs have changed over the years. Therefore, in the end, we will have the answers to these questions: “Is technology a crucial point of our century and our lives?” “Does technology improve much faster as time goes by?” “Have people’s needs changed over years?” and so on.

Tetris

This tetris is the oldest thing in our house. It takes this little queen just a single battery to produce 9999 different games. Even with no internet connection this magical thing can make you spend quality time. - Bilge Su Aksu (TR) FEMM I

Panasonic VHS Video Camera

Ι have this Panasonic VHS video camera. In the old days you would Just put a tape inside and it would Just record, much like an analogue camera would. - Artemis (GR) MTM

Gramophone

This is an old gramophone from the 1920s or 1930s. It seems to be the forerunner of the record player, but instead of vinyl shellac is used. Also, in order to play music the crank must be turned. The little open door is used to regulate the volume; by opening it the music gets louder. - Lenya Geßner (DE) FEMMII

Sewing Machine

In 1975, my grandmother bought this sewing machine in Switzerland, it was where they used to live. The whole family have been using it since and it is working perfectly. I haven't got the hang of it yet but I can sew simple things. - İpek İnci Öge (TR) MTM

Analogue Camera

This is a forty-year-old analogue camera of my father. Since analogue cameras have become a new trend lately, I was really excited to discover this oldest technological tool we have got. But, unfortunately, we couldn’t figure out a way to make it work. However, its functions are very similar to the newest analogue cameras. Simply, you have to place your film into the camera, then set up the speed, the aperture, and lastly the time. Once you have done with your rolling, you have to rewind your film. Eventually, last thing you have to do is waiting for your pictures. There you have it. - Ilgın Çelikel (TR) MTM
