STEP 1 - LET'S START! Before installing the delegates in the General Teambuilding, please let them check in by our wonderful chairs. Before connecting the delegates to the their commitees, let them get to know all the other delegates during a General Teambuilding. Ensure that the delegates‘ energy will not run out of power – so please provide a lot of breaks, enegysers and FUN!!!
AIDA, FEMM II, DROI – all these terms did finally come to life today at the first day of the Regional German Selection Conference “Technic that works for the people”. And they will even more during the committee work during the next exciting days. Today was the day where more than 100 delegates got to know each other at the Regional Selection Konference of EYP Germany. Normally this session would have taken place in the beautiful city Kassel, situated in the centre of Germany

Normally, we would have all been there together: Discussion together, learning togehter, having fun together. Normally. But was is normal in life? An EYP-Session definetly not! And that’s why it can place anyway! ;-) The first day of the session was all about getting to know each other. During different team buildings prepared by the amazing organizing team and chairs, the delegates had the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting things about each other. Finding out of which country someone would like to be prime minister of and discussing what should then be improved first – these were normal topics during this amazing team building program. But of course: Also the academic part shouldn’t be missed out at this first part of the session! Therefore, the delegates had the opportunity to attend several workshops on different interesting political topics hold by amazing speakesr. Whereas some spoke about online Forms of Racism in Europe, others talked about the role of women in politics and the fact that “the political world still is a mens’ world”.

NR.15042021 EXTRA TIPP: GET TO KNOW THE DELEGATES Our main motivation to apply for the session were meeting new people with similar interests, acquiring more knowledge concerning European politics, and leaving our comfort zone. Furthermore, we have always been exceedingly interested in how international bodies such as the European Parliament work. When we found out about the European Youth Parliament, we were immediately intrigued by the idea of this great opportunity. At first, we were utterly concerned about the complications the online format of this session could impose; however, after the first day, we can confirm that our concerns were proven to be wrong! The online session worked exceptionally well and was very enjoyable. Our committee is the "Committee on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age (AIDA)." More precisely, we take a look at how the European Union should regulate the use of facial recognition technology in line with its democratic ideals and human rights. Facial recognition technology truly is a fascinating topic, especially because it deals with an issue that is becoming more and more relevant and ubiquitous in today's world." G I E S B R E C H T

NR.15042021 EXTRA TIPP: GET TO KNOW THE DELEGATES "Prior to starting our committee work on our topic, we got the opportunity to get to know each other by playing some introductory games. One of these games is comparable to "speed dating," in which our Chair assigned us into small groups to discuss philosophical questions in a short matter of time. On the one hand, this exercise sparked immense controversy, but on the other, it helped us gain compromising skills among the committee members. After that, we lip-synced a song which ultimately broke the ice among us and made us feel comfortable within our committee. I hope that my committee and I will have a delightful time working on our topic and finding rigorous solutions for this topic's possible threats. Moreover, I am genuinely looking forward to the general assembly in which I will hopefully participate in a lot of fruitful debates and listen to fellow delegates' interesting speeches." STEP 2- LET'S WORK! Before switching on the delegates, boot the delegates energy system during a relaxing morning yoga session. Before building CW, introduce the delegates to the MACHINE: THE JURY Caution: Delegates might lose their power during CW. Ensure to charge them with enough energizers!
Committee work - let's go! The first day of committee work started relaxed. At least, for the delegates who did not enjoy yesterday’s evening programm toooo much and have already been awake this morning for beginning this day with a wonderful yoga session!
The JURY After the yoga session, the serious business started: It was time to get to know the jury! During a huge zoom conference with all delegates, the jury introduced themselves and explained how their function in the Regional Selection Conference of Germany will look like. Basically the jury of RSKS consists of five members who will be evaluating the delegates’ performances during CW and GA.

The insight: Get to know the Head of Jury!
But now, where we have already heard so much about the Jury’s work: What exactly does it mean to be a Jury member? And how was the delegates’ performance of the first CW day? Curious about getting an exlcusive insider insight? Let’s just ask Klara – our Head of Jury!
1. Who are you?
NOTES
I am Klara, 23 years old and I am the Head of Jury at RSKS. When I don’t do EYP, I study medicine in Jena, Germany.
2. Since when do you join EYP and which experiences have you had so far? I have joined 2015 as a Delegate at the Regional Selection Conference in Hamburg. Since then I mainly did a lot of organising and was in the Media Team twice. This is my first time as Head of Jury.
NOTES 3. What is the jury work about? The jury selects 5 delegations and 5 individuals for the National Selection Conference of EYP Germany in Stuttgart (13.-18.7.2021) based on their performances during CW and GA. Jury work is essential to firstly keep up a certain academic level and also to motivate the delegates in a way. Being chosen is surely an honour, but the jury doesn’t decide who gets to continue in EYP and who doesn’t. Everyone can decide that on their own :-)
4. Why are you part of the Jury this time? It is very inspiring and motivating to see how many young people use their free time to discuss about politics and to express their opinion. As a jury member you get to catch a lot of that vibe as you see every delegate.
5. How did you prepare for it? I had lots of interaction with the rest of the Leadership and with my team, I read the Academic Prep Kit and planned Trainings for my Team. I was selected as Head of Jury in November and preparations started in Febuary.
NOTES 6. Where do you see the biggest challenge in being a jury member? The biggest challenge is making a fair decision whilst only having very limited time for each of the huge committees here at RSKS. I would love to have more time for everyone but unfortunately that is not possible.
7. Which challenges do you expect of the digital session compared to the ones we all are used to? It is harder to grasp the mood of the committee than when you are in a physical room. Also, sitting in front of a screen all day is tiring for all of us.
8. What would you recommend the delegates to do when a jury member enters the zoom room? I recommend the delegates to speak up when they have things to say, listen to their committee members and interact with them and to always be polite. And also, it is important to not change your behaviour when the Jury member enters, just be yourself.
NOTES
9. And, of course, the most important question: How was the first day? Exciting! I love the delegates’ arrival day, because they are usually as excited as I am. For the jury it was still pretty chill in the morning, but when committee work started, we could start evaluating, which was difficult and very interesting at the same time. After the jury presentation, it was time to start working! All ten committees spent the rest of the day brainstorming and discussing on their topics. Sometimes not an easy thing to do regarding the fact that the committees consist of several young, interested Europeans willing to express their way of thinking concerning current political and social topics!
Get stuck in thoughts or even lost yourself in detailed discussions? Thankfully, there were our wonderful chairs helping their delegates to focuss on their main goal: the resolution. On colorful miro boards, the delegates exchanged and organised their thoughts to phrase their clauses for the resolution booklet. After a long, productive day of working, the delegates got introcuded to the process of the General Assembly.

STEP 3- LET'S DEBATE! Before loading the GA, please make sure the delegates read its instructions for use at the EYP Café. During the exhausting GA, pay attention provide enough memes to boost the delegates’ and officials’ minds! After the long GA day, please provide all participants an amazing evening program lasting until late into the night.
The final countdown Today was the day, we all have impatiently been waiting for: The General Assembly! Together with their chairs, the committees have been passionately working to finally present their results this day. Amazing fact: After the delegates have done their best to phrase their clauses, the chairs spent the whole night to formalise them in the resolution booklet that consists of 29 pages!
INFORMATION The General Assembly is the heart of each and every EYP session. Now, the committees have the opportunity to present what they have worked out during the past days. During a three-minute Opening Speech, a delegate from the proposing committee introduces the resolution by explaining the rationale behind the solutions, highlights the relevance and importance of the topic and defends their way of thinking. Through Position Speeches other delegates are then able to display agreement or disagreement with the overall direction of the resolution. After every debate, all delegates vote by approving or contradicting the resolution .

Much more than just a debate! At the first day of the GA, it was the turn of IMCO, FEMM I, DROI, EMPL and ENVI II. Really amazing to see how lively the delegates presented their resolutions, debated and supported each other! And yes: support is a good keyword: Of course, giving an enthusiastic speech and defending your resolution successfully is great – but there is so much more that can be achieved by participating at an EYP-session.
"(…) it is crucial to promote mutual understanding between the EU Member States and its citizens. And. Even more importantly, between younger generations of citizens. You are the future entrepreneurs, researchers, politicians. You are the asset for a successful, strong and happy Europe!"
Nicola Beer , Vice-President and Member of the European Parliament
“ I thank you for developing ideas for the future together and internationally as young, convinced Europeans. (…) We absolutely need you and your commitment. (…) You strengthen our democracy and the European thought.”

STEP 4- LET'S FINISH! Before loading the second GA - day, boost the delegates minds with a great video of the RKSK Social Media Team. To ensure that the EYP spirit lives on after the session, send some delegates to future EYP sessions. To create a good work atmosphere - sing the European Anthem of Europe!
One last time
.
This has actually already been the last day of RSKS Kassel and the most important day for the remaining committees to present their thoughts and demands to the whole General Assembly. Femm II , ENVI I, LIBE, CULT, and AIDA did a really amazing job by making aware of a lot of important topics and questions concerning our future life in the European Union.
Youth is the key to change! Whether the own resolution passed or not. There is one thing that is sure after participating at the RSKS Kassel: All the delegates showed that they are aware of the importance of the European Union - especially for the younger generation. We, as young Europes, are able to make a change and create the European Union of our dreams!

NR.15042022 FINAL TIPP: WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU
"The last few days were very exciting and fun but also nerveracking and exhausting. Communicating with my Committee (DROI) virtually and having to come up with objectives regarding the digitalization in the European Union and then having to find matching resolutions was not easy. Talking to other young inspiring delegates was delightful and created a multi perspective opinion. The general assembly was definitely the most fun, especially holding my position speech to ENVI I because I had the chance to voice my concerns and my opinion of their thought process. I learned that even if I experience the need to say something, it sometimes is better to help others phrase their thoughts instead of only focusing on your own. I would love to attend a lot of EYP sessions but I also consider joining the organization team and help creating this opportunity for others."
