Head Organisers’ Vision
The theme of the session “Striving for Social Sustainability…” has been chosen with the aim to engage young European minds into pondering and discussing today’s significant and relevant topics in mind. Our goal during the session is to provide all the participants a safe space to grow as a person and give them the chance to improve their skills in communication and socialization. We want to create a welcoming place for everyone where they can feel comfortable enough to have thought-provoking and inspiring discussions with other people and most importantly, find new friends and have fun!
In addition, we find welfare extremely important and want to bring it into our vision as a starting point for everything else. We feel like when we can make sure that all of the participants are feeling well both physically and mentally, they will be able to participate much more enthusiastically and actively and all in all get the most out of the session.
Furthermore, we believe that cooperation between the different teams is the key to a successful session. With reference to the theme of the session, we want to bring the idea of collective responsibility onto the table and encourage all the teams to collectively work as one to create the best possible environment for both each other and the delegates to reach interpersonal growth.
With the core values of EYP Finland in mind, we want to emphasize that this session is about learning, self-growth, equity, cooperation and most importantly, it is about jumping to the deep end and experiencing something new. No matter if it’s your first time jumping or if you are already more experienced, this session is for all of us, it is for you. We hope to see you take the chance with us and come join us in Porvoo this autumn!

Presidential Vision
In keeping with the overall theme of the session, sustainability will be at the heart of the work of the chairs team. Central to this will be encouraging chairs to adopt a mindset of acceptance and flexibility when facing challenges. It will involve understanding that what is sustainable for you may not be sustainable for someone else, and cultivating a tolerance of imperfection during the session in the name of greater overall wellbeing. This also links in with setting realistic and manageable goals for yourself at the session, and leaving room for falling short of these goals sometimes. Fundamentally, everyone on the team should feel comfortable working in a way that is sustainable for them personally and for the needs of their committee. To foster this positive and sustainable mindset, trainings will not only focus on the framework and practicalities of chairing itself, but also on tackling any insecurities in your chairing through dialogue with the wider chairs team and the board.
This leads me to highlighting the importance of working as a true team at this session. Often, the chairs team are working quite independently during the day, and teams often feel pressure to force bonding activities around the ‘real work’ of the session. Rather than the work of the session and bonding feeling like two distinct elements of the session, I hope that we can create as many opportunities to work together as a unit during the session through finding dynamic ways to bring committees together during committee work and maximising the frequency of inter-committee energisers and challenges.
Finally, as an academic team responsible for guiding delegates through the session, I hope that we can work together to provide the most comfortable and welcoming space possible for delegates to truly speak their mind on European issues. I hope that at this session we can keep a focus on people over product, keeping faith that delegates that feel respected and cared for will deliver an excellent resolution that resonates with them and inspires them to continue to remain engaged in European dialogue.
I look forward to working with you to make this vision a reality.
All the best,
Clara Gaughan

Editorial Vision
At Porvoo 2021, our vision for the editorial team puts all creative freedom in the hands of the individual, providing ownership regarding their own session output whilst also making sure each individual does the amount of work that best suits them. The sky is the limit!
A way that this will be translated at the session will be through the usage of smaller media teams within the larger, that will entirely see over one major element of media output at the session. These teams will be separated into a Photography team, Videography team and Social Media team. Each team will be looked over by either myself as editor or one of the two editorial assistants. Whilst within these teams, each member of the media team will find themselves solely responsible for the type of output that corresponds to them. Meaning that the shared responsibilities often seen at sessions (such as the taking and editing of photos) will no longer be required by everyone on the team.
Such an approach is seen with the intention of not overwhelming any individual, with feeling as if they have to do everything, but rather to give ease of mind alongside ownership into one concrete element of the session output.
In the spirit of creating a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere at the session. As a media team member at Porvoo regional session, the creation of media projects will not be a requirement by each individual. Embracing the media team structure, a singular team will be responsible for one piece of larger session output, however each team will additionally be encouraged to produce smaller scale content alongside this as a group effort, however this decision is up to the team.
However, as a way of not limiting creative freedom, no idea will be shot down if its owner truly believes in its creation. I see our jobs as the editorial leadership to not provide you with the answer, but rather assist you in getting there. Each member of a media team has their own area of expertise, meaning that the leadership are learning from the media teams members just as much as they’re learning from us. With this in mind, any piece of media or activtity wished to be achieved at Porvoo will be supported through constructive critism in order to achieve the best it can be. We all have the potential of creating masterpieces it’s just about believing in what you, as an individual can create and being able to recognise when you need might need guidance.
We aim to create an atmosphere where each member of the team feels comfortable in stating their own limits and asking for help when needed. No one will be seen as above anyone else, as we are all in one respective team and will use the opportunity to learn and grow off of one another. Nothing will be forced or expected by anyone and you can find the team as a chance to try something new.
If this vision is something you see yourself in, then we strongly encourage you to apply regardless of your experience!
If you have any further questions regarding the vision or any other element of the session, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the editorial leadership.

Jury Vision
Dear reader,
By reading this vision I hope you are considering applying to the Jury Team at Porvoo 2021. Hopefully my vision for the team and the session can help to further convince you to apply.
Considering the transition back to physical sessions, and the new challenges this presents to us, it is incredibly important to me that the team feels comfortable with one another and trusts each other. This aspect of trust should be built upon before the session even starts, and is something I hope to maintain throughout the session. Alongside this, I believe it is important to have a team that is inclusive and cooperative with one another, to help facilitate better decision making and overall effectiveness.
To help achieve this, I hope to have a team that takes a horizontal approach. I believe greatly in having a team that feels comfortable with making suggestions and taking initiative, towards other members and also myself. Consequently, I am looking for applicants who are inclusive, compromising and willing to be cooperative and supportive to the team. A willingness to be enthusiastic and uplifting is also desirable, since I believe a team works best when in a happy, fun and supportive environment.
If you have read this vision and believe you can contribute to this session, I have full confidence that together we can make an incredibly successful jury team. I am greatly looking forward to your applications, and I hope to be able to welcome you to the session.
