Editorial

Dear Reader, Do you think that the press team says “Good-bye”? No, we say: See you soon Yet you may think this session has come to an end, but

indeed it came to the most important part: the General Assembly. Speaking of which, this will undoubtedly provide you with an excellent opportunity to defend the resolution you are now drafting - to speak for what you believe in. If you heard that the GA is boring, don’t believe it, it’s the place and time for the most interesting discussions.

Moreover, if you heard, you will never see the others again and

that made you sad, don’t believe it, as the most beautiful thing in EYP is, that we ALWAYS meet again. Finishing off by wishing you all the best on your resolutions is perhaps a bit predictable, but very wholehearted too. Enjoy yourself as well as this issue, and remain what you have proven to be up till now: a good prey for these lenses and laptops of ours. yours,

Oksana & Lavrentia

> Jorge ,Luca and Paul get to know Mr.Patrick Purcell, our honourable guest from Raiffeisen Bank Aval.

Possible changes

On Friday, the second day of committee work, several committees had the privilege of speaking to Patrick Purcell (IE), a political activist and expert in Eastern European affairs. He currently works at Raiffeisen Bank Aval as a Continuous Instruction Supervisor and is looking forward to opening an English college in Ukraine. In an interview with journos Luca, Paul and Jorge, Patrick spoke about the specific events that lead him to where he is now. From childhood Patrick was taught the importance of speaking out against injustice and always stating his opinions. As he puts it, if one doesn’t make an effort to be heard, one risks being oppressed by other people’s opinions. With this ideology in mind, Patrick started to be politically active at a young age. He partook in the Pro-Life movement and fought for the rights to a good education for the mentally disabled.

Patrick finds it very important for young people to be involved with the problems in their country, in Europe and the world. It can be difficult for youngsters to get involved, but it is possible, and extremely important. He encourages any young person with a project not to be afraid to search for help. Countless NGOs, companies and organisations have press offices which can be easily contacted, forming a good starting point.

According to Patrick, the mobilisation and involvement of the youth is of crucial importance for the future of Eastern Europe. In order for real change to be effected in countries such as Ukraine, a change in mentality is necessary, and this can only be achieved through the youth. Organisations such as EYP can play an important role in this transformation, since they offer the opportunity to intellectual and cultural exchange. Furthermore, the discussion techniques utilised in the European Youth Parliament are very important for a society based on democracy and transparency. The journos conclude that people like Patrick inspire us to make our ambitions come true. Interested? “email @ patricksaysyes.eu

Masquerade balls are very popular right now, and for good reason. They are fun,

masquerades are a great get-together idea for larger group gatherings, such as EYP.

So, on the 5th of March all the participants of the FrankNational Session had a great possibility to be a part of a real masquerade or in other words Welcoming

Party. The hotel´s hall was turned into a ball hall, where you could meet ladies in beautiful

dresses, gloves and masks and of course gentlemen, wearing suits and different kinds of masks. The whole evening all the participants hid their faces and it was impossible to find out who is who. BUT, it wasn’t impossible for your journos, as we are watching you every time and everywhere.

> Emilia and Uche get up close and personal with the unsung heroines of the session; Marianna & Uliana

The Shpyndyks

It is 13:00 when we finally met Marianna and Uliana. Originally, we wanted to meet them earlier but their busy schedule made it surprisingly hard to do that. The girls are looking a bit tired, but their smiles are as happy as ever. We asked them why and how the idea of Head-Organizing this session came about, bearing in mind the enormous amount of work and time that you have to invest. We discovered that they first had the idea when they participated in the first Inter-rail conference and then Sumy National Session and PostInterrail conference as delegates in 2009; they asked why everything is concentrated in Kyiv and Eastern Ukraine. “Why not Ivano-Frankivsk and Western Ukraine… EYP was alien to this region”.

At the end of October 2010, they prepared the bid and had to convince the EYP-Ukraine to approve the Session. The bid scored and since then they have been knocking on every authority’s door, trying to introduce the project, asking for help.

The biggest problem Mariana & Uliana faced was fundraising and gathering the Organizers’ team. At the beginning, it was difficult for the Organizers (who are newcomers) to understand what the EYP is about, how the journos are going to work and their role in the session, who are the chairpersons, why we need tennis balls for the teambuilding, etc. As Uliana said the pretty helpful thing was small video, prepared by dear editors. Only after watching this little pieces of art, looking at our smiling, freaky faces they’ve understood the basic sense of the whole event. Head Organizers’ biggest expectation for FrankNationals is to find innovative, fresh, and novel ideas in the resolution booklet. (So delegates, everything is in your hands, don’t disappoint our lovely HOs!). And what is the story behind ‘Shpyndyk’? Shpyndyk is a Ukrainian word for a tiny, cute, little person. And that is how Uliana calls Marianna. There is probably nothing funny about it when she does it at the university, at home, in the club, anywhere. But it happened, not only once, when Uliana called Mariana ‘Shpyndyk’ in front of the local authorities.

> Noah and Oleksandra disclose some interesting facts about our Mr.President

Meet your Mr.Prsident

It is clear that the mission of the President of the session is to ensure that everything is running smoothly and all the delegates are getting their unforgettable experience. The President does not check everything – he provides the opportunity for the others to do their work. The president has a rather unique yet interesting point of view: “EYP is a Cookie: the funny stuff is a crunchy outside layer and an intellectual part of EYP is just inside ”. In EYP there are times when you are just too tired for either fun or really serious stuff; then you know that it is stress. I noticed stress at the moment I realized it was down to the last sip of Vanilla Coke, because there is no Vanilla Coke in Netherlands. Vanilla Coke is associated with warm memories. Most people may think EYP has nothing to do with Social responsibility, besides organizing a session, allowing delegates to debate on various issues. However, we now have a better view: EYP as an organization does not only give an opportunity to travel or make friends; it also helps people to develop their potential skills and it’s our social responsibility not only to encourage people as much as possible, but also to keep in mind that we contribute as much to the world around us while we are doing so. In this way, we use the skills we´ve learnt, not only in EYP but also in our daily lives. Roshan’s involvement in the EYP Academy identifies him not only as a Session’s president but also as an EYP trainer and Innovator. Not everything is as it seems: not everyone who leads a board wants to ply his/her trade on a politically associated field or Job. However, he surely has the quality of a real leader. He emphasized “I believe in the value of understanding politics and I want to be involved in the process, but I am the person, who needs to create things on the spot. A successful politician is the one who does 10% of his ideal. This I was once told by someone dear to me.”

Finally, Mr. Roshan’s favourites in this session: YOU, the readers and all the participants of the session. It makes Roshan happy to see endlessly how we all start up as small seeds and to realize that HE can be the rain that enables all of US to grow into beautiful flowers.

EYP Academy is a new established platform, which was founded on behalf of the Governing Body (GB) of the EYP on July, 2008 after the Training for Trainers (TFT). The main goal of EYP Academy is to push EYP forward by wowing in the form of providing training, training materials and other useful materials for EYP.
