Topics
The session will take the ‘general theme’ idea one step further. Each commission within the European Parliament has a unique approach to tackling a problem; many commissions may be working on
different aspects of the same problem, creating an overall solution to a societal issue. NSC 10 will have Discrimination and Inequality as its umbrella topic, with each topic being one puzzle piece within the overall picture of the session. The topics will focus on a number of policy levels; on the one hand certain topics will encourage delegates to find local solutions, while other topics will focus more on a regional or European level. The chairs will play a fundamental role in making this system work. Firstly, chairs will be responsible for writing their own topic, and then developing andmodifying the initial phrasing as they write their topic overview. Secondly, chairs will create a web of interactions between their topics in order to better understand how their topics are interconnected, and to see what are the limits of each committee. Finally, chairs will create the GA order to best match their web of interactions and the approach taken by their committees. The session will focus on the personal development of each participant while introducing him or her to the world of policy making. Rather than committee work being about finding utopical ideas to problems in society, with very brief statements in the resolution being the final outcome, committees will be encouraged to discuss and elaborate the implementation and finer details of their ideas, pushing their resolution from mere suggestions to implementable policy recommendations.
Academics
Training With the whole chairsteam being selected 2 ½ months before the session, we will undergo an in-depth collaborative chairs training. We will have a core curriculum of online chairs training, before each chairperson will be asked to create their own online training module for the rest of the chairs team. This new approach will help the chairs become actors of their training, and will help us use the pre-session training day to focus more on chairs teambuilding and advanced chairs training.
